Welcome to our new cliquey thread !

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

No congratulations - snails were whizzing by, I was wobbling dangerously (stomach and arse - took my eye off the ball there, was distracted by stomach but backside is big too) and I probably looked dreadfully pukey at one stage. (I felt it!) But I've started now and got past the unfit-flabby-woman bit. Well, maybe.

Poppy I think they must be related. Maybe in an unconscious mental blockage way. And great post btw - keep those hormones coming! Missed you on here. Tell me, are you keen on trains? I have it in my head that you are.
Can I confess that last week I dreamt that Poppy was pregnant? Honest, really I did. (Couldn't tell anyone at the time though, could I?!) I must be a witch.

Rolf hope the soreness passes soon, but well done for getting through it. I'm assuming alone - so even braver (I would want my Mum there.). But I don't think you've made the transition to old woman - you're mother to a 2 year old so obviously not old yet. Plus you're probably younger than me (seriously, everyone on here is, I think).

Spider you've met my DH (so have many of you - he hangs around in an annoying way when I have friends round) and he's a judge. I think he takes a special scariness supplement before going to sit. He's sitting at the end of the month as well. Watch out Bristol.

Eddie do you really have a big head? And your DH? I didn't notice it. But my DH has a massive head. They had to order in a special cubs cap for him because the shop didn't stock his (huge) size. Apparently. MIL says it like it's something to be proud of.

Deb happy shopping! A trolleyful of Cadburys? My French friend used to buy biscuits like crazy here becuase apparently French ones are all fancy. Can't get a digestive there.

OK, a question for everyone. We want to go on holiday in August, to a lovely little cottage somewhere. Where should we go? Anybody got any fab suggestions? Ireland is a possibility (and close!) but so is anywhere really.

SpiderWilliam · 17/05/2010 22:38

Rolf sorry it was such a miserable day for you. How can you be a old woman when you have a 1 year old tugging at your apron strings? In my dream your DH certainly didn't have a baseball or stubble how disappointing.

Deb forgot to ask earlier: what was on Restoration Man last night? Was it a Medieval Manor House? Hope you enjoy your Tescos shop, an getting to eat it later on in the week.

Essie wow a run!! Well done. Did you ever hire that treadmill that you mentioned last year sometime?

EssieAmma · 17/05/2010 22:38

Deb when in Tesco buy Nippon ant killer. I had some a lot of ants in my house a couple of weeks ago. Now I don't.

SpiderWilliam · 17/05/2010 22:46

Just xposted lots, but had to say that your DH cub caps storry Essie made me LOL resulting in me having to explain the whole story to DH who endured my ramblings with good humour.

DebInAustria · 17/05/2010 23:05

Rolf, glad today's over for you, sorry to hear your dh isn't as lovely as last time. You are not an old woman - I am older and I'm not old(yet)but I do understand what you're saying about being in hospital for something non baby related

Essie - any other dreams you should share with us?By August maybe we'll have sold and be living in Northumberland/Cumbria/Durham - all nice places with lovely cottages!

Poppy - probably best to keep away from those threads in your hormonal state!

Spider - yes, some sort of old house(history isn't my thing and I was ironing whilst watching it), just thought that might have been the link

Biscuits - so nice of you to see ants and think of me - the result is that no new ants have been sighted for the past 3 to 4 hours so I think the Vaseline has worked!!Well it's stopped them coming in through that hole anyway!

Tesco order was lovely for the 1st half an hour, another hour later and whilst trying to decide between 5 million pages of biscuits and cakes, muffins and cupcakes the novelty began to wear off. The choice is so huge compared to here. So looking forward to bacon, sausages, crumpets, teacakes, walkers crisps, mature cheddar, etc etc etc

pureeandpearls · 18/05/2010 07:22

Hi all- sitting here playing with a no-longer-poxy Annabel whilst waiting for Cecily to wake up and open her presents (I get it from my mum, apparently she was the same when we were kids) Can you belive we've been mums for two years??????

Eddie- well done on the walk. I keep saying I'm going to do it then have babies instead. As I'm done with the babies, maybe I'll actually do it next year (in which case I expect you all to sponsor me)

Essie- well done on the run. I definitely think you are a witch

Poppy- I've texted alreasdy but that really is great news

Debs- I second the comment about Ant bait stuff in Tesco's- it totally worked for our infestation issues.

Biscuits- thanks. Halfway through the cakeathon. Exhausting. When do they start making their own cakes????

Forgot what I was going to say......baby brain!

EssieAmma · 18/05/2010 09:55

Hem hem! Restoration Man was on two houses in Wales; one I knew - a massive mansion, 70+ rooms, outside Aberystwyth (bought by some rich nutters who have also bought titles and coats of arms etc) and a beautiful farmhouse which had a perfect example of a medieval hall. I really liked the medieval hall but mainly because it was medieval, and also because the people were struggling with very little money, several children, but a sensitive attitude to the site. DebinAustria see me after class. 'Some old house' will not be acceptable in an examination situation.

I'll admit I'm quite witchy but it's not very regular really. They're not actual dreams, more like someone stands next to me when I'm awake and puts these things into my head, and it's quite random. (Yeah, yeah, I hear voices in my head...) It's really hard to explain. But I knew about Puree (got it whilst cleaning my teeth one morning ) and Poppy (came to me whilst playing trains with Iestyn a week or so ago), but not Neenz or Eddie. Or Spider but I did see Spider around the time she must have conceived and did think soon, very soon, but that wasn't the same, it was all me making a guess not it being planted into my head.

Have just read the thread, realised J was being suspiciously quiet, and looked up to find him putting raisins in his ears!

I managed to get them all out (I hope!) Biscuits what would happen to a raisin in the ear? I can't see any more so they would have to be right inside the ear canal and I awould be really surprised if he had managed that. Would they blow up and be really painful? God, I'm a terrible mother (sigh)

Rolf, I hate the lack of privacy in four bed wards. Actually I think this was the main reason why I refused to go to the ward after dd was born and had a homebirth for J. You are not alone!

Rolf · 18/05/2010 12:30

at the raisins Sybil, and thanks for the support about beastly 4-bed wards. I love it when people post bad mother stories . DD1 is in trouble at school for scratching (Friday) and spitting (yesterday) so if anyone else would like to wheel out bad mother stories, now is the time! The loss of temper she gets from me , but I honestly don't scratch or spit (but I wear a muzzle in public, just in case ). DH picked them up from school yesterday so he got to wear the fixed smile while the teacher reported on DD1's behaviour. My fixed smile is getting a little bit strained.

Essie I too think you're a witch. If I wasn't typing I would be making a cross with my fingers.

I know it's irrational, and it's not going to happen, but today I'm thinking that if I get pregnant I'll move back down from the gynae floor to the obs floor of the hospital and be an old obstetrics patient rather than a young gynae patient. And if I do that all the leaky manky diseased fanjo crap will go back in its box and I can be a glorious fecund goddess again. I don't think it works like that though...

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 18/05/2010 12:47

Sorry your hospital experience was horrid Rolf but good to hear your positive NHS experiences too.

Not too much to report here. Work manic. Have 3000 things to do before my holiday and no time to do it in. Am just hoping we get there and back ok.

Holiday destinations Essie - home or abroad? What about somewhere is Scotland? Lots of lovely places to visit (no guarantees about the weather though). Or how about France if you want to cross some water? There are loads of gites about - we looked at tons of lovely ones. Try babyfriendlyboltholes for some inspiration.

Puree - happy birthday Cecily! How has the present opening been? S's scooter arrived today - I can't wait for him to see it, but we've got a wee while just yet!

Rolf · 18/05/2010 12:59

Essie forgot to post how pleased I am about Karen

I was thinking of hiring a cross-trainer to use at home. We don't really have room for it but the room that is supposed to be my nerve centre for domestic management (ha!) is pretty much underused, so I could put it there.

DebInAustria · 18/05/2010 13:04

Rolf - I have to ask what is in your nerve centre for domestic management?

Rolf · 18/05/2010 13:14

A desk and heaps of stuff that is on its way up to the attic . I think DH thought that I would work industriously at the desk and plan things. I didn't really want a desk, I wanted my own shower room...

DebInAustria · 18/05/2010 14:15

lol rolf, a shower room of your very own would be nice or even better a big bath without toys or children (5 minutes peace)

Rolf · 18/05/2010 16:52

F Steroid Bob is sitting on his f shed roof again, looking right out over us, with his beastly bare chest and his horrid man feet and his neanderthal local radio station blaring away. The anti-social behaviour team at the council don't answer their phones or return their calls .

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 18/05/2010 18:02

for you Rolf. Can you call your local police station re the noise? Ours has a special number to call and then they liase with the council.

essie sorry, I also meant to say good news about your cousin and hope she gets through all that lies ahead ok.

rolf can you use your nerve centre to draw up plans to turn it into a shower room/big bath/walk in wardrobe/mum's quiet place to eat chocolate and watch tv and mn in peace? Oops, no room for the cross trainer or desk

Rolf · 18/05/2010 19:00

I'm trying to hold off creating a paper trail, tbh. I want to speak to the anti-social behaviour team anonymously at first and just get their advice.

DebInAustria · 18/05/2010 19:24

How about leaving a trail of drawing pins/itching powder/something else uncomfortable on his shed roof for his horrid man feet!

Essie - great news about Karen

Well dh is home, at least I saw him at teatime then he crashed out, still no sign

Did you see today's wooden track on FB? Quite a tame track compared to the ones dh makes supervises, but OK for me, and I managed to hold Ethan back , by that point he chose to recline on the beanbag and chat on his phone! He has played with it since, in giant toddler taking strides across it style!Looked like an earthquake

off to pack

EddieIzzardismyhero · 18/05/2010 19:29

Rolf, sorry x-posted with you last night . Sorry to hear that the hospital stay was traumatic, although glad it all went well and you're home safe and sound. V on your behalf though re: shitty neighbour.

Oh and lol at you wearing a muzzle in public! Sorry you're having problems with DD1 at school again .

poppy, I'm sooo with you on the sleep threads, they drive me mad! The martyrdom that people like to display on MN re: babies/children and sleep is utterly ridiculous . An exhausted mother is not happy one - and in some cases, it can be positively dangerous. I would never post for sleep advice on here cos you just get told, "I haven't slept for more than twenty minutes for over ten years so suck it up". Tis bollocks.

And don't even get me started on the feeding threads!

Essie, I may be joining you on the running thing - turns out that the WtW team is not entering the GSR this year so if I want to do it I have to run! Can I train from scratch to do 10 miles by the end of October?!

And yes, I wasn't joking about the big head! I think he said it was 59", would that be right? I'm on the 99th centile! As I said on FB, it does explain my superior intellect, and considering I'm in the esteemed company of a judge then maybe I'm not wrong .

Places to go on holiday? Anywhere in Cornwall/Devon/Dorset is beautiful. Lulworth Cove? One of my favs .

Oh and great news about Karen - it was one of the things that kept me going on Saturday/Sunday thinking I shouldn't be such a f**king wimp cos people who get cancer don't get to go, "do you know what, I've had enough, can I drop out now?" It was the kick up the arse I needed. Especially as I found out later that one woman was diagnosed with breast cancer after entering the Moonwalk and did the full 26 miles during the middle of her chemo . Amazing strength of mind and body.

sybil, I had to laugh at the raisins in the ear as my bro works in A&E and is constantly regaling me with tales of children coming in with various items stuck up noses and in ears - they whip 'em out fairly easily.

Deb, lol at the bewildering choice at Tescos!

Biscuits, yuck about the eyes .

puree, I'm entering again next year so come along! I would give you one massive tip though - train, train, train, train! Then you can avoid fainting at the end!

Hope your little girl had a fab birthday - the pics were wonderful, and the cakes amazing .

DG, did you get S's passport?

Sorry, that was a ridiculously long post - hope I didn't miss anyone out!

OP posts:
EddieIzzardismyhero · 18/05/2010 19:30

Deb, x-posted - your train track was amazing!

OP posts:
EddieIzzardismyhero · 18/05/2010 19:31

Oh and can anyone help with this?

I've had one response!

OP posts:
TheBuggerofSuburbia · 18/05/2010 19:53

Oh so many posts! Poppy, congratulations, so pleased for you.

Essie, have you had any dreams about me winning the lottery, if not, can you do something about that please? Sooner rather than later if you don't mind?

Rolf - big hugs, I still haven't been to the docs, girding my loins so to speak. As for Steroid Bob, I'm sorry you've got that one on your plate too, and fingers crossed you can get someone to help.

Thanks for all the bbq advice. Love Abdn's comment that it's an appliance not an event.

Goddess, oddly enough I'd said to DP that I'd like to see you and Biscuits again soon, but I've already got plans for this weekend. Another time?

Deb, happy trip.

Wave to everyone else.

TheBuggerofSuburbia · 18/05/2010 19:54

PS I am also old, old, old....

DebInAustria · 18/05/2010 21:26

Eddie - Ethan gets the benefit of 2 older brothers who don't mind sharing their toys now!
