Welcome to our new cliquey thread !

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
abdnhiker · 16/06/2010 21:26

P&Ts are a pain on stairs because you can't bump them down due to the lower seat, and yes, they are heavy when there's two kids in them! But they're great for getting around and they do fold down very small. I had one and while I didn't love it, I got a ton of use out of it. I bought it while we still lived in town though, if I'd known we were moving out here I'd have gotten the P&T side by side (do they even still make it?) since I don't negotiate shops with kids anymore and the paths are pretty wide.

SpiderWilliam · 16/06/2010 21:28

Dewin - aren't you the only person to have met the elusive Neenz? Rolf meeting Neenz's FIL doesn't count.

Thanks for the cake advice too. I took it round on the basis that it is the thought that counts. I also remembered that the last thing they made for us was a cheesecake that had gone wrong because the cream had been over whipped and it split. I peeked at my brand new next door neighbour: he is tiny and super cute.

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 16/06/2010 21:34

spider I would say that Rolf meeting Neenz' FIL counts double!

I have met 3 of you (although one has since drifted away) you SE ladies have met more haven't you?

abdnhiker · 16/06/2010 22:05

I've met three - but one's not around anymore. That's got to be pretty good for where I live (but a bit sad that I've not met you central belt folk).

DebInAustria · 16/06/2010 22:13

I feel very honoured that Spider came all the way out here to meet me!!Can you believe our boys will be 2 very soon Spider?Cake is finished but Mr Tumble could do with some concealer where I cocked up the freckles, tried to wipe them off, left a brown smudge then realised that I had used up all the flesh coloured buttercream!Never mind, I will post a photo tomorrow if Ethan recognises who it is!Balloons and streamers up, just got to get presents out of hiding now.

Really hoping that I get to meet more of you when we eventually return to the UK, have heard today that the buyers have their mortgage in place and will be submitting their formal offer tomorrow, with a view to complete in August. We're trying to hold out until end of August as we have summer guests until then. Just got a provisional booking today for 17 nights this summer from a family in Dubai travelling with their maid!!Fingers crossed we get that booking as the money will come in very handy!

DewinDoeth · 16/06/2010 22:28

clinks real Budweiser bottle.

Biscuits confused - is that a hospital department? My office room has a view of Lafan Sands and the mountains. But everyone is right about making an effort with my department - I am in it, even though my heart may not be. The boys are very cliquey though.

People I have met: Neenz, Spider, Penguin (before she became Penguin NZ!), Amber, Eddie, Poppy, UDC, Mamawhizz (!), Puree...who am I forgetting? Hedgehog. Um, I'm sure there may be others.

Deb the Mr Tumble cake sounds rather impressive! And the maid...think she'll do all the work for you?? Send her my way!!

DebInAustria · 16/06/2010 22:28

Just been reading my posts I made from the labour ward mid contractions!!

DewinDoeth · 16/06/2010 22:30

Oh, btw, be impressed - I'm in Wales, not London! (When Biscuits said SE ladies I panicked and thought she was referring to me personally, seeing as my RL name is SE!)

EddieIzzardismyhero · 16/06/2010 22:33

Impressed at deb posting mid-contractions!

I've met hedgehog, puree, dewin, spider, poppy, amber and penguin so definitely don't beat dewin's impressive list!

Talking of meeting people, we're coming to Scotland (Dunblane to be precise) in September if any of the Scottish mums fancy a meet up? I think you are all working mums so don't know how do-able it would be, but bear it in mind .

OP posts:
DebInAustria · 16/06/2010 22:34

Hey Eddie, by September all being well we might be in Northumberland which would be a good stopping off point!

SpiderWilliam · 16/06/2010 22:36

I know Deb. I realised as I was putting Peter to bed that he will be two @ half midnight. So the next time he is awake he won't be 1 anymore. I have probably jinxed things now and he will wake up in 5 mins.

All presents are now wrapped, and DH and I have agreed that if P wakes up at 5.20 again, then that's when we will open his presents. DH working link a dog so he will miss the whole day otherwise.

Better go to bed. Amber been meaning to say that P is generally waking between 5 and 5.30. We are in a v similar boat. I had a quick flick through your sleep thread this afternoon, but sadly I have nothing to suggest.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 16/06/2010 22:40

I've met my two fellow central belt folk (must get Abdn down for a visit!).

Eddie - how long are you in Dunblane for? It's only an hour from Edinburgh...

neenz · 16/06/2010 22:42

lol at travelling with their maid deb!

Happy birthday Iestyn! Glad you had a good
day. He sounds so cute.

Amber, it's always such a long wait till the first scan isn't it. You're having another one soon though aren't you to see if it's twins?

With prams, I think even at 2 it's always good to have the option to put them in the pram, cos sometimes 2yo's just don't want to walk where you want them to walk! Having the option of strapping them in is essential I'd say.

Poppy, will have to try non-alc Kronenbourg. The Beck's Blue is pretty good - even better with lemonade in cos it does have a bit of an aftertaste on its own.

DH doesn't really like Jacob anyway!

Yes me and Dewin have met which was lovely. It is a scandal that me and Rolf have not met up - we live about 5 miles away from each other! But I didn't really leave the house for the first 12mths of the twins' lives and Rolf has 4 kids and doesn't drive so understandable I think. We must meet up sometime tho Rolf

T just copies everything E does atm. In the doc's surgery yest waiting for the mw there were a few kids pottering around. E bumped into a little girl by accident - then T went over and bumped into her too.

DewinDoeth · 16/06/2010 22:58

Actually Neenz we should meet up again. DH is in Liverpool on Friday! (I always think of you when he's in Liverpool/north Wales courts.)

Rolf · 17/06/2010 00:27

The only person I've met was Neenz father-in-law, who was v nice but doesn't really count. Yes, Neenz, we must meet up. Dewin are you coming up to court with your DH (to sort out his bands, perhaps?). If so, we could have a Liverpool meet-up. I live 20 mins drive from the courts...Or I could meet up with your DH to continue my theme of meeting with thread relatives.

I've just got back from a book club, with neighbours down the road. We practically had to carry the hostess to bed, we all drank so much, but had such a lovely time. They are all proper grown-ups (have grown-up children) and have lots of interesting things to say. I love our road.

I've never used a P&T but don't like the look of them. It looks really miserable (and dangerous and weather-y) for the child in the shopping compartment.

Right, must get up to bed. I washed our sheets and haven't made up the bed yet. Wonder what chance there is that DH did it.

Penguin do you want any of these books:
Carlos Luis Zafon - The Shadow of the Wind
Donna Tartt - The Secret History
Ali Smith - The Accidental
Zadie Smith - White Teeth
Zoe Heller - Notes on a Scandal

abdnhiker · 17/06/2010 07:40

ooh the Shadow of the wind was really good! Penguin - I still need to mail your books - I will do it!!!

DebInAustria · 17/06/2010 08:29

Morning all, got a grumpy determined 2 year old here today, and still a whingey 10 year old coughing a lot, 8 year old is at school so we're getting there slowly. Ethan likes his presents but is a bit annoyed that he can't reverse his car so well with the trailer on! He got a microwave from Grandma, I asked him to get some food so he headed into the kitchen, I reminded him that it should be play food and he returned with a plastic pringle shaped crisp and a table tennis ball!

Amberc · 17/06/2010 09:05

Bit excited about today's 'twin' scan. I don't know what I'd prefer but I daren't even think I'd prefer one thing or another as it's taken so much to get anything - I will be grateful for whatever I am given!!

DebInAustria · 17/06/2010 09:23

good luck Amber

Amberc · 17/06/2010 12:39

PS I have met all Essie's people except Neenz but I have met Aberdeen instead!

PiggyPenguin · 17/06/2010 12:42

oh, good luck Amber, let us know how you get on.

PiggyPenguin · 17/06/2010 12:45

I haven't met anyone (polishes sad loner medal)but I am limited by school runs and my hatred of driving outside my three local towns. I'm nice though, honest!

DewinDoeth · 17/06/2010 13:41

Yeah, well, that's what you say, Sybil! You're on the south coast, aren't you?

Really excited about Amber's scan!!

Rolf, Neenz, as per usual DH was being vague - he is still in Liverpool tomorrow but he's probably travelling up from London so I won't be coming too. But Rolf feel free to go to meet him!

I HATED White Teeth.

DewinDoeth · 17/06/2010 13:47

Meant to say - Iestyn had his 2-year check today. He's only 24lb!

SpiderWilliam · 17/06/2010 15:36

Hello. Been having a nice birthday day for P. He is v pleased with his brio trains set even though my Mum went form the ultimate starter kit which is tiny: enough track for a circle about a foot in diameter! He also likes the balance bike although not got it outside yet as we were out all morning.

Best of all we both have had a big sleep this afternoon. Phew - I was struggling this morning.
