Thanks Spider. I was all set to order a met helmet, but DH doesn't like any of the designs. Well, that's a fib, he liked one but I hated it. Gosh, we're shallow

SpiderWilliam · 15/06/2010 17:27

We went for the little Dino design on the Genie model I think. It's via mail order though, so can't yet vouch for it. Agree that lots of the designs were a bit mature for a 2 yo.

neenz · 15/06/2010 17:32

Sybil, your vendors sound like selfish idiots! Do they say when they are going to get the survey? Can you give them a deadline like end of month or you pull out? I really appreciated your honesty with the Dan thing. I don't think I would want two Dans now - which just made me annoyed that we are in this situation! I think if it is a boy and born first we will call him Dan but not register the birth until she has her twins - if she then goes for Dan too we will consider changing our Dan to something else. If she has her babies first and uses Dan we will probably just use something else. What do you think of Jacob? Is it a bit common now? We were thinking Daniel Jacob so if we needed to change we could switch to Jacob Daniel.

Abdn, someone was telling me today they have a balance bike that you can add pedals to. Are they any good? Sounds like a good idea cos then you don't need to buy a new bike when they are ready for pedals.

T and E sometimes get consonants mixed up - eg they say dinished for finished. Theo says gagel for bagel. Is that ok? We correct them (well repeat back what the word should be), hadn't really thought it was anything to worry about tho, assume it is not...?

Esther did a poo on the toilet this morning . She said 'poo' then 'change nappy'. She hadn't pooed so I put her on the toilet and she did. They seem to have much more understanding than they did even 6wks ago. Still not thinking of doing any proper training for 5/6mths tho.

Saw mw today - bp fine, uterus measuring normal size and baby is head down so all good. Nearly 32wks now.

Dewin , great news! Just see how it goes... 100% success rate surely can't continue when you live in different countries most of the week .

Spider I was too at my SIL's 3hr labour and natural delivery (and I hadn't even had kids then! ) but apparently it is not always good for babies to come that quick (for them or you). They come how they come and it's always a trauma for the body!

Eddie, I can totally understand your feelings about M and A being born so close and feeling you have 'missed out' somehow. I would definitely feel that way if the Dts were going to be my only kids. It's like you get all the hard work piled into a small space of time and only that small space of time to try to enjoy it!

Happy birthday, birthday trio!

Rolf, go for it . I don't think anyone ever regrets having more children (well obviously on MN there'd always be someone come along and say "actually..." . But you wouldn't!

PiggyPenguin · 15/06/2010 17:42

Neenz glad I didn't upset you. I would be amazed if they still went ahead with calling their son Dan if you had already got there first. I really do think in this situation it is a 'first past the post' finish iyswim. And I think Jacob is lovely.

Dewin if you have triplets do I get to name one???????? How do you feel about Thomas ...

I am now back to stage of not thinking about the house move and pretending it is not happening. I find this is the best way to not slowly go insane.

I also have to confess to eating lots of fugde today. I actually felt a bit sick afterwards it is nowhere near as good as chocolate

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 15/06/2010 18:17

I agree Neenz, I don't think you're SIL will use Dan if get there first. I actually prefer Jacob though!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 15/06/2010 18:25

Ooh, I like the Dino one Spider. DH didn't. There's not many nice ones to choose from - there doesn't seem to be much between babyish and too grown up.

Oops, misuse of apostrophe in last post

On speedy births, didn't someone on here mention recently some issue with their DC because of a speedy birth. Deb maybe?

abdnhiker · 15/06/2010 19:33

rolf the gaggia is heaven...

as for a third kid, just because I'd like one doesn't mean we can have one - it's just not affordable for us and although everyone says "oh don't worry about money" it's a big difference because it's me getting back to work or not. The slightly frustrating thing is that if this new career opportunity works out we'd have enough money to afford another easily but then I can't have the career opp and a third kid - it's one or the other (this company is taking a big chance on me and I'm feeling v. lucky. If i got pregnant now then the ad hoc work I'm getting would dry up along with the training).

DGT that helmet is very cute - no idea if it's comfy or anything though - but it is adorable! The met helmets last year were less cartoony - DS1 has blue swirls/flames (very subtle) and Fraser's is classic racing stripes...

Dewin hugs and , it seems like a good decision and I hope it makes you feel better. I hate having things up in the air...

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 15/06/2010 19:44

Thanks abdn. I think I'll run it past to DH at see if it meets with his approval. Racing stripes sound fab!

EddieIzzardismyhero · 15/06/2010 20:05

Quick post cos I'm knackered!

Our little birthday boy didn't wake up til 8am this morning - but then he is poorly . Full of cold . However, we went into London and went into the aquarium and he did have a lovely time - just about to post some piccies on FB, got a couple of fab ones where he just looks gorgeous .

Neenz, I think you hit the nail on the head re: it being all squashed together with the baby thing. I always said if we had twins 1st time round (big risk with IVF of course) then I would want to have more. But never expected to have two with a small age gap instead!

Anyway, it prompted me to have the conversation with dh today while A was having a nap, and he's said no way . He said it in a very nice way and came up with lots of very sensible reasons but I still feel very sad about it. Luckily all my NCT group have ruled out a third so I won't be faced with it in RL too much (only have one set of friends with 3), but still feel very very sad about it.

Anyway, can't remember what anyone else said so off to load my piccies.

Domestic do I spy classic evasion tactics here from your assignment?

Ah happy to be your second-funnily enough we have a foam sword around somewhere from
holiday( I wasn't stupid enough to buy a plastic one).

Happy birthday to all the birthday boys today- hope you had a fab day.

Dh took day out(we are in France still but he is working remotely) and went to eurodisney on cheapy day tickets Then shopping. Had lovely day and will try to post some fb stuff later... Watching match now -it's not a classic...

neenz · 15/06/2010 20:30

Your day out sounds lovely Poppy . I'm watching the game too - hardly a classic, just like virtually every other game this tournament . But the first round of world Cup is often like this I think cos there are so many rubbish teams! I remember Euro 2008, it was great cos there were only 16 teams (iirc) so pretty much every game was good. Not sure why they had to design a new ball . Why not just use the ball they use in the Champs Lge? The Germans have been using this new ball since Feb apparently, so are more used to it. Why weren't we using it in the Premier League? It might just be first game nerves, no one wants to lose. The next set of games (starting tomorrow I think) might be much better [hopes].

Abdn, what's the name of the sling you love? I am going to treat myself - I want one I can feed with. I already have a Premaxx baby Bag and a Baby bjorn but not sure if they will do the trick - E never got used to the Baby Bag with the twins but didn't get it till they were about 8wks old so I think they just weren't used to it and I didn't really persevere - I switched to the Baby Bjorn which they liked much more. Baby Bjorn no good for newborn though if not correct weight and not sure how you would feed in it? Anyway any suggestions for good slings greatly appreciated!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 15/06/2010 20:34

Busted! at Poppy.

poppy34 · 15/06/2010 20:58

Euros are usually Better as fewer teams/ generally stronger pool of countries getting in.
And yes no good games yet ...
I love love love my ergo sling neenz- can still use it now but has fab insert for newborns. I only wish I had found it earlier as baby bjorn was great but did pull a bit when dd got older. Also ergo avoids alleged strain on groin you get with baby bjorn( being a wily old mn now I would not take any notice of the inevitable shite you get on sling threads here where there is a definite bias towards slings made of macrame and home made yoghurt).

Lol at domestic- Is it at the point where watching reruns on Dave are looking good?

Am starting to get quite excited about baby and discussed names, even pushchairs withd dh . I know it's stupidly early and things could go wrong but decided i would be gutted if went wrong even if didn't have these thoughts.

Whoops double post

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 15/06/2010 21:04

Is there an England fan on this thread blaming the ball

Oh, it's dire Poppy. Have written about a fifth of what I need to write (and am researching as I write). It's due in TONIGHT and I've sent my technophobic tutor an email when I know he prefers a call, giving a lame excuse. I'm over confident that he'll have to give me an extension as to do otherwise would mean he'd have to fail me. If I wanted to risk that I'd have gone to Uni, not had my company pay thousands for me to do it privately .

Oh, am I on MN again? Have to go and steal a force field analysis image from google...

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 15/06/2010 21:08

Poppy - I like your attitude that you would be gutted if anything went wrong whether you had excited thoughts or not. You've had a lot to deal with in the past - you should be allowed to enjoy your pregnancy as much as you can.

I'll never really forgive some friends and family who thought I shouldn't tell them I was pregnant 2nd time around and the unspoken suggestion that I'd brought bad luck on myself when the worst happened.

Oh, how I remember pushchair research [wistful]. I know a lot of people in RL who are pg and I bore them with my product suggestions!

Oh yes, force-field analysis...

abdnhiker · 15/06/2010 21:12

neenz I had the close baby carrier but never managed to feed in it - but I can't honestly see how I could have managed that in any sling!

off to bed now - I'm working tomorrow but will be back to normal next week....

poppy34 · 15/06/2010 21:20

It's so hard as the tougher the deadline the lower the motivation. C'mon with pushchair thoughts...

SpiderWilliam · 15/06/2010 21:39

Neenz my neighbour's new baby is Jacob, but mostly being called Jake/Jakie as far as I can tell (although he is less than a day old, he has had a name since she was 5 months pg). I really like Jacob because I like the "b" sound at the end which is unusual amongst names, but I find Jake a bit harsh sounding. Jacob goes better with your surname than Dan I think.

poppy34 · 15/06/2010 21:43

How is pfb behaviour with your neighbour? And I think Jacob is lovely name

SpiderWilliam · 15/06/2010 21:48

Heck - DH has started watching a programme about disecting cobras. YUCKKKKKKK

I think I may have to lure him to the other TV with the promise of the Glee season finale.

Poppy I think day dreaming about names is a good thing. If you can fixate on that it is so much healthier than hanging out on the pregnancy boards.

I have my "Birth Options Clinic" appointment tomorrow. This is for people with a previous cs. I started to write a few questions down this evening about what happened last time, and what might happen this time. It got to 3 pages of A4. I fear there wont be any time for them to tell me what they want to say.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 15/06/2010 22:27

Well, I managed a few hundred words tonight and the theory part always flows MUCH slower than the practical application...

Pushchairs, pushchairs. There are so many new ones now! I still love my bugaboo bee though. No complaints. Out of everyone I know in RL I'm the only person I know that is still using the same pram/pushchair I used for my newborn. Value for money methinks. Although I do have a maclaren for bus journeys and travel.

Off to watch the labour leader hustings on newsnight!

neenz · 15/06/2010 22:29

Spider, Birth Options Clinic sounds good - never heard of that. I hope you get some answers and feel reassured. If you liked Ina May Gaskin you might like the Hypnoborthing book by Marie Mongan. She says it is good for VBACS because it is such a gentle way of giving birth so puts less stress on the scar tissue.

DG, that would be me . But I'm not blaming the ball for England. Just the lack of excitement overall - except from Germany, who have been playing with it since Feb. The first Brazil goal was a complete fluke tonight - it's the ball . Get back to work!

at people thinking you should keep your PG quiet - I hate that too. I mean, if you want to keep it quiet fair enough but if you want to tell people that should be up to you - people are so stupid thinking that it makes any difference to the outcome. Grr!

Poppy, its good your enjoying the pregnancy. It is a tough time the first trimester.

I like Jacob but really don't like Jake - or Jakie - yuk!

Thanks for sling advice - I like the look of the Close and I know the Ergo gets raved about so will check that out too. at being made out of yogurt!

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 15/06/2010 22:41

My next door neighbour had a baby girl today! ( I dreamt she had a girl two nights ago and called her Anna, (I told her about the dream so have proof that I had thought of it) they've gone for Hannah - pretty close I think!)

poppy day dreaming is a definite go ahead, I'm sure it's good for you! and LOL at the homemade yoghurt sling.

neenz Jacob is a lovely name, I think it probably goes better with T and E! I agree with sybil (I think you should change your name to The Voice of Reason!) first past the post with names - going to adopt this with my sis come November!

DG do some work. Stop reading Mumsnet, don't come back until you've finished your essay.

deb how are the boys today?
