Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
llareggub · 28/05/2010 20:23

Grumpy, honestly, the first 2 weeks of couch to 5k are awful and you'll never believe that by the end you'll be able to run 5K. But you will, I promise!

The photos on facebook of your meet-up are beautiful!

Tummum cottage. Absolutely!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 28/05/2010 20:41

llare Honestly, I am hideously unfit (asthmatic ex-smoker excuse). But I will persevere.

Wine going down a treat here.....

pulapula · 28/05/2010 20:51

grumpy

I have failed at the second hurdle with my couch to 5k by convincing myself i will do my 2nd run tomorrow morning. So i am now on the couch scoffing double decker .

Here are my observations of our gorgeous DCs today: grumpy's DD2 was the big girl that all the others wanted to play with and hold hands with - and a little stunner too. And S has the most scrummy legs and funny zombie-style walk . reggiee's B was a real cutie and a bum-shuffler, dusting the dirty museum floor with his trousers. jenn's DD1 and DS were charming, and how I would like my DD and DS1 to be when out and about, although I was relieved that Jenn did once have to chase after them on one occassion- one reason why i rarely take all 3 DCs out together as I wouldn't be able to keep tabs on them all. momi's DD1 and DD2 are the prettiest of girls, and although shy at first they were so sweet playing with the others. H is a cutiepie, and her hair has really lightened since i last saw her, and looked like she'd been using "sun-in" - anyone remember that from the 80s? Ses's O was asleep for quite a while, but once awake, there was no stopping him . I've posted some pics on the secret FB group if anyone wants a peek. My DS1 isn't on any as he decided he didn't want his photo taken,

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 28/05/2010 21:00

Oh and pula's B (ds1) with his tousled hair and cheeky face. He was off most of the time though, doing boy stuff I guess or thundering up and down with the other 'big kidz' . I did manage a chat with him and he was very polite and sweet and gave me a huge cheeky grin. I had a lovely chat with Jenn's DS and DD1 too. They eat their crusts!!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 28/05/2010 21:07

I want a double decker now

momino · 28/05/2010 21:07

I don't know if youtube links work but found this so close to the way I've been feeling with the DD's (ie dd1&2 are the boss character, I'm Jen). love the IT crowd.

g&T (tick)
sofa (tick, wish it were comfy)
bad telly (tick)
husband making supper (tick)
and, relax.

Tummum. cottage. cotttage, defn cottage. AND, after this post, I'm off to write an escape plan for you. just a teeny break. for a little TLC. Or would you like us to find you a cheap nurse? no? you're right, does sound a bit dodgy... ah, hope you're relaxing tonight anyway.

very, very lovely meet up with the others. I will repeat what grumpy and regg say above. however, am so of Jennster's gorgeous, well behaved LO's whilst it took us 20 min to get out of the museum since dd2 had a Mother of a tantrum since we didn't let her ride in the double decker bus. Reggiee, we'll meet again as I do want to chat longer - do love B's locks, enviable. Pula hope you got home ok and hope ses has a excellent weekend in York. can't believe how big O has got since last time! Grumpy, dd1&2 were in awe of your dd2. they really look up to the 'older' girls. dd2 didn't stop talking about her

couch to 5k...very admirable, ladies (said whilst scoffing crisps on the sofa).

Hope everyone is well tonight.

must post the photos now.

momino · 28/05/2010 21:19

for some reason, it's really slow to post photo by photo on the MN group. I can't figure out how to change it to the quick way of uploading. I hope you don't mind if I post on my page? Let me know straight away if not and I'll remove.

momino · 28/05/2010 21:34

meant to say, Flip, hope you get better sleep tonight. I can sympathise a bit: our older 2 are waking up again a few times each in the night. I'm not sure why.

tonight I've instructed them to hug their cuddly toys and go back to sleep if they awake in the night, but not sure they'll heed my advice.

momino · 28/05/2010 21:36

regg, at 'seems to have opened a beer...'

flippinegg · 28/05/2010 21:49

ooooh, at your lovely meet up, just had a quick look at some of the photos on FB.

reggiee, lol at beer. There is a bit of cake left if you'd like some. Although the cake was good, I'm disappointed with it - I wanted real cream to go in the middle (with scrummy raspberry jam), but the only shop I could get to this AM only sells fake cream, y'know, that Elmlea stuff. It had to do, but So Not Right. Humph. I am such a food snob.

tummum - go for a cottage, definitely. Caravan doesn't sound like much of a holiday for you. Actually, scrap the cottage, go for a hotel. Oh, hang on, scrap the cottage and the family and go to a hotel ON YOUR OWN .

I haven't done couch to 5k, but I did do the Race for Life training plan the first time I did RfL, I suspect it's similar. Anyway, the first time I went out and had to do run one minute, walk one minute I cried because I couldn't do it .

I am slightly squiffy, DH and I have had a tough week so we had a bottle of wine after the girls had gone to bed. And then I decided that it would be a good idea to paint my toenails red. I'll have to tidy them up in the morning!

flipflopsattheready · 28/05/2010 22:03

Testing my new summer name! Not what I wanted, but all my ideas were taken and I have no real imagination!

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 28/05/2010 22:07

I like it!

I was going to have a World Cup name - GrumpyoldcaaaaaaaamonEngland. Few weeks yet.

flipflopsattheready · 28/05/2010 22:14

LOL Grumpy.

I'm in denial about the world cup, hate football. Although much to my colleagues' disgust many years ago I won the WC predictor league thingy, we had to predict results for games, got awarded various scores based on stuff I can't even recall...I did it all v randomly and beat all the blokes who'd soent ages researching, working out who was playing etc. And then the year after that I won the fantasy football competetion!

flipflopsattheready · 28/05/2010 22:14

I want to go to bed, but my toenails aren't dry enough yet. If I squint a bit they don't look too bad.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 28/05/2010 22:17

I have deep purple toenails, done in a slightly squiffy state. I'm tall enough to pretend they're perfect!

momino · 28/05/2010 22:34

watching ashes to ashes reruns but taking a break.
re: football, isn't this the most ridiculous thing - i welled up at '3 lions' on the radio the other. hormones still mad.

i hate football but love world cup (if that makes sense)

momino · 28/05/2010 22:45

Flip, I predict the USA wins this year

ReeBee · 28/05/2010 23:05

Am v about the York meet up - sounds fab and all the lovely descriptions brought the whole thing to life.

tumm, cottage cottage cottage.

ses, all - re coach crash, made me cry. Think that after you've had a baby, you lose a layer of protective skin and everything always hurts much more.

smokey, great news re tests but just remember to keep taking it easy.

Sorry to have missed so many birthdays, I just can't seem to get it together at the moment. Got a week off now so will try to have a proper read and NC.

saus hope everything goes well including mil interaction!

Hello everyone else. Oh, and thanks for the great eczema advice (can't remember if llare or pula, sorry.

I saw lost. Have been a faithful follower.

Off to bed so get a few hours before f wakes us up...

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 28/05/2010 23:06

That's right, dear!

ReeBee · 28/05/2010 23:08

Forgot, flip -love the new name!

momi yes, I def reckon the USA will do it this year?????!! I do quite enjoy the world cup though, must be a character flaw!

momino · 28/05/2010 23:36

think the England/USA match will be brill though - I can't lose, can I? I'm very loyal to both sides. someone's going to win.

Reebee, was a Lost follower for a couple of seasons before i gave up. I want to know the answers now (without watchingit). please tell me.

belgina · 29/05/2010 08:15

Morning all,

First time back in a little while. I've done a bit of lurking, but couldn't summon the energy to do any actual posting.

llare How's the sleep going? C was exactly the same going from incredible sleeping baby to nightmare sleeper at around 6m. It's improved a lot and consistency is definitely the key. Whatever method you choose stick with it. C's one that needs a slowly slowly approach so my 1st step was reducing the amount of night feeds. The first 2-3 nights were though, but I managed to skip the 1 o'clock feed now and the 3 o'clock one. The waking sort of naturally fizzled out when I stopped feeding her and the last month or so she's been going until 5pm quite regularly then feed and then on to 7-7.30 (except for today. It was 6 )
What we're struggling with now is cutting out the dream feed This week is the 1st week she doesn't wake at midnight when I try to skip it. She's waking at 2 am instead and then gets upset when I don't feed her. I'm thinking about re-introducing it again for a bit, because I've got 4 night shifts coming up in 2 weeks time and I think it'll be easier for DH and the ap to feed her at 11, knowing that more than likely she'll go on until 5.

smokey Can't remember whether I've said it earlier, but Yay to the CVS results . Your funny turn does sound like low bp to me too. It's fairly common to get that in the 2nd trimester. With DS mine was so bad that I went to the GP who told me to stop driving. This was pre tesco online groceries and dh was away half the time and I was new in this country, so I told her what to do with that advice.

tummum Also a vote for a cottage. We've got a caravan and I couldn't imagine having to set it all up with the dcs and a poorly DH in tow. Actually it's the packing and the driving that would bother me. Once you're at the campsite there are usually plenty of people willing to help with the setting up (in my experience). I've never towed a caravan in my life, because I find it quite scary!

couch to 5k Hats of to you girls. It sounds like hard work to me.

york meet* Sounds like you all had a lovely time. I loved, loved, LOVED reading all the descriptions. I can just picture it all. If only London wasn't inbetween. I'm pretty sure York wouldn't be all that far for me if I didn't have to get past that little obstacle.

world cup

flip Love your new name

I never paint my toe nails. I hate my feet and think that painting my toenails does nothing to make them better, on the contrary, it just draws attention to to them.

siblings We're quite lucky with ds and dd1. They tend to get along 90% of the time. DS is such a mild mannered boy that any arguments get sorted quickly. He just gives in to dd1 or walks away from it. Both the eldest tend to ignore C most of the time. There's too much of an age difference for there to be too much of an issue with toy sharing etc... The eldest will just take away anything breakable/tearable/dangerous from C and stuff something less interesting safer into her little hands instead. Dd1 has stopped trying to get her (never played with) baby doll away from C now too, because she knows that she's fighting a losing battle there + deep down she knows she's not into dolls. C on the other hand LOVES that baby doll. It's the only word she can say and the only thing she actually looks for when you say "where is...."

Oh and finally. For those of you who haven't seen my f/b status. Here's something to give you a laugh: According to the ap's sister (who is apparently the font of all knowledge regarding child rearing, although she is childless herself) all Dutch babies sleep through from 3 mo. Everyone in rl who I've talked to just burst out laughing when I told them that. No words, just laughs (mostly hollow)

Gosh. This was a mamoth catch up post. But everyone else in this household is still asleep (minus C), so I thought I'd take advantage

belgina · 29/05/2010 08:19

Also meant to say hi to everyone I didn't mention: saus reg 1stMrsF (remember I'm a rl 2nd MrsF!), momi, reebee fi ....

Also apologies for mamoth post, being a bit mememe (but all positive )

Right. Village shop must be open now. Time to get some milk and bread.

llareggub · 29/05/2010 09:09

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to post in response to my plea about sleep. Things aren't getting any better.

What we are trying to do is keep him out of our bed (and therefore off nightfeeds) but it isn't going well. Last night I ended up with both boys and for a two hour period neither I or DH got any sleep. DH favours the pacing the corridor and rocking to sleep method, I favour putting in the cot and patting but it is killing my back so I have to think of something else.

Yesterday however DS had one very long nap instead of the two short naps he has been having so I wonder if he is ready to drop one nap in favour for one. His evening sleep was much better last night (he slept from 6.30pm until 11ish) so I think he still needs that night feed. He weighs very little so I think I still have some time to wait until he gets bigger and can go longer without a feed, perhaps?

Anyway. I'm hoping walking will make a difference. He is doing more and more every day so once he is walking I can run him into the ground like I have to do with his brother!

belgina · 29/05/2010 10:09

llare Sorry about your bad night. Your post made me realise that C's better nights did co-incide with her starting to crawl and cruise and with her dropping the morning nap. We didn't stop taking her into our bed when she wakes, but have stopped feeding her. Half the time nowadays she's happy enough to go back to sleep with just being cuddled, the other half she isn't though
