....where we ditch the talk of babies/lack of sleep etc and concentrate on some Salient Social Planning

  • where to meet
  • when to meet
  • what to wear
  • what to drink
Who's up for it then ladies?

I've tried looking on Tripadvisor for accommodation but I'm really not familiar with York, so it's difficult to know what's suitable. RKD dear, are you around?

We should get a shift on otherwise we'll end up leaving it too late again.

MummyElk · 15/09/2010 20:27

bumping. am going to eat dinner then will come back

OK. I've been doing a bit more accomodation searching, and I think I've found something.

This looks to be available in November. It has 3 bedrooms (one double, 2 twin), so would sleep 6 if we're willing to share. It also has a heated indoor swimming pool :)
Unfortunately there's a 3-night minimum for booking, BUT it actually works out cheaper for 3 nights than the other place did for 2 nights, so we could just book for 3 and only stay 2? It's available on the 13th/14th AND the 20th/21st; I know sarah said she couldn't make the 13th and it's Arcadie's birthday weekend, so her time with us would be limited.

The list so far is:

Melk
IWCAS
BMI
PacificDogwood
Dalrymps?
sunshinesarah?

Evitas (staying with friends)
Flip (not staying over)
Arcadie(doesn't need accommodation)

The cottage is £290 for 3 nights, so between 6 of us it would be about £50 each. We could adjust for how many nights people want to stay and/or who's sharing or has a room to themselves.

SO the questions are:

  1. Who's still up for it, and which weekend suits you?
  2. How many nights do people want to stay?
  3. Who is happy sharing a room, and who would prefer a room to themselves?

If we end up needing more rooms, there is actually another 2 bedroom property on site which would cost an additional £250 for the same 3 nights.

I hope I'm not missing something obvious with this accommodation, but it seems like a good deal. So... answers please, ASAP!

MummyElk · 16/09/2010 16:38

  1. Me, and either
  2. realistically, 2 nights top - unless i bring the Elk with me too (bit long otherwise for DH to cope with that and work) (this could work if others are bringing random toddlers, they can play together) (if not, it seems a bit unfair on everyone else, tis nice to be just mums and babies sometimes too Smile)
  3. Quite happy sharing.

And I have a blow up (bed Grin) which i'm happy to smuggle in

IWCAS (give or take - am putting words into her mouth from text she sent me)

  1. Iwcas, and either weekend
  2. I think she'll say 2 but maybe 3 (except getting there might be a problem)
  3. i think she's happy to share.

Unspoken of course in all of this, and this includes my DD is it might involve the odd crying baby in the sharing rooms option!! But hey - we all know that Grin.

(last bit not from iwcas i'm sure miniIWCAS won't sound a peep)

Thanks Melk. I'm not sure I could manage 3 night either, it's more just for booking purposes. I suppose it might be worth asking if they'd consider a 2-night stay as it's low season.. but even the 3 nights works out fairly economical anyway.

siamesecatwoman · 16/09/2010 20:36

Hi this fell off my threads. I'm up for any weekend but we won't be staying over as we live nearbyish. Looking forward to it!

BusyMissIzzy · 16/09/2010 20:41

Excellent siamese, I look forward to meeting a fellow crazy cat lady :)

PacificDogwood · 16/09/2010 20:49

BMI, excellent effort, keeping this on the go and finding further accommodation Smile.

I am happy to share.
Either weekend would do me fine.
I can attend with or without toddler as required Grin.
Like I said, if we run out of space I could stay with BIL, but would prefer to stay with Mad March Mums Wink.

BusyMissIzzy · 16/09/2010 21:15

Brilliant PD, it'll be nice to see you and Joe again :)
So it's looking like the 20th/21st is better, just need to hear from Flip. If she concurs, should I go ahead and book it? And if we need to book 3 nights, should I go for fri, sat, sun (with most people probably just staying fri, sat)?

FlipFantasia · 16/09/2010 23:16

Have replied on FB BMI but just to say that weekend of 20/21 suits me and I'll aim for a day trip on the Saturday. Woo hoo! V excited to meet all the MMMs [but do so wish I could stay over - blardy finances!]

BusyMissIzzy · 17/09/2010 18:19

Accommodation book for 19th/20th/21st Nov, so feel free to start booking trains etc if necessary :)

siamesecatwoman · 17/09/2010 18:43

Woooooo excited.......

PacificDogwood · 17/09/2010 21:34

Oooooh, v v exciting!

Thank you, BMI, for being so pro-active Smile

To think that years ago, I thought it was really strange when DH arranged to meet up with some of his internet/car forum friends... Grin

siamesecatwoman · 17/09/2010 22:07

Ah pacific but that was weird. What do they talk about? And at least one of them had to be a hairy trucker!

Oh, gosh, yes, money - BMI, don't let yourself be out of pocket; I'll happily send a cheque or do you take Paypal Wink?

As I will be travelling with mahoosive 7-seater, I would be happy to do some pick-ups, but BYOCS (=bring your own car seat) Grin.

BusyMissIzzy · 17/09/2010 22:28

Priestley Cottage, 10 mins (apparently) from York city centre, is booked for Fri 19th, Sat 20th and Sun 21st November. There was a 3-night minimum, but I think most are just staying one or two (fri/sat) nights.
There are 5 of us staying over, so if we split the cost evenly it's £57 each, however we might want to divvy it up depending on who stays how many nights, or who has a room to themselves. I'm happy for people to just pay me back when I see them (as long as you all actually turn up!), so we can argue about sort it then if that's easier :)

They have 2 cots and 2 highchairs, so some of us will need to bring travel cots.

And did I mention it has a heated indoor pool? Baby swimming party! Grin

I hope it turns out to be as nice as it looks...

Those who are staying over, are you coming for one or two (or even three, if you like!) nights? If it turns out everyone only wants to do one (Sat?) night, I could check in on the Friday with DH and send him back home before the MMMs arrive Grin

Double room for mummy with baby + toddler sounds fair, iwcas. And yay! for your birthday; that means we have to eat cake Grin

I don't have a travel cot, but can buy one if I need to.

PacificDogwood · 18/09/2010 11:39

I would aim to arrive (late) Friday evening, probably after 9pm

I can bring Amby

Happy to share a room (but you lot might regret sharing with us....)

Happy to share costs evenly between us

Oh, I cannot wait, I cannot wait

BusyMissIzzy · 18/09/2010 14:57

Are you staying Sat night too then PD? I'm looking at trains, and not sure what time to arrive on Fri (maybe mid-afternoon, so could do a bit of food shopping) and leave on Sunday. What is everyone else thinking?

PacificDogwood · 18/09/2010 15:00

Yes, sorry, would stay Friday and Saturday night, leaving sometime on Sunday. I suppose I'd want to be back home in time for bedtime on Sunday evening, so I'd leave sometime after lunch/early afternoon.

I can bring supplies too, sustenance and liquid refreshments Wink...

MummyElk · 18/09/2010 20:18

lurking (and chatting to BMI on fbk) but failing to contain my excitement and SOOOO looking forward to it!!
I can bring two travel cots if needed.
And i wasn't planning on bring ToddlyElk unless really needed?!
and arriving fri pm and leaving sun lunchish.

Am semi planning the food sort of thing (to compensate for the lack of accommodation sorting i didn't do)

BIG UP BMI!!!!
