Thought I'd start a Post-Natal thread as there are so many of us now sorry about the uninspired name.
Well I am slowly realising the sleepless nights thing is no myth - VERY tired!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
nicnacinoonoo · 14/07/2010 08:49

yeah i think Kacie's gums are starting to get sore. im finding when she puts toys in her mouth now she's biting down on them rather than just trying to suck them.

stinkypinky · 15/07/2010 21:05

Boo has got red knuckles from chewing - do not remember DD1 doing this... She is dribbling lots too. She is 12 weeks and already needs a haircut!

Zeeky · 15/07/2010 22:49

stinkypinky - we have a very hairy baby too. George has a full mullet and has had a side parting for weeks now as his fringe was so long! Think I will have to cut it soon & he's only 11 weeks old.

He's just discovered his Tongue and is sticking it out at every opportunity and blowing dribble bubbles - very cute. I managed to get my first chuckle out of him today. He's been doing it for DH for a couple if weeks now but never for me.

nicnacinoonoo · 16/07/2010 08:31

wish i had a hairy baby, Kacie has gone practically bald. ds did as well, so it wasnt unexpected.

PrincessTweetz · 16/07/2010 21:02

Jude's almost a baldy..like his daddy we say lol. But dd1 had dark hair,so I was expecting Jude to be the same..I can just about get the top bits in a mohawk wehich looks sooo cute..until my slobber dries up on it that is

harverina · 17/07/2010 11:11

nic "wish I had a hairy baby", that made me laugh. Eilidh is a red head and has a head of whispy, fine hair wih some bald patches at the back! It stcks up at the top and refuses to go down!

My DH is giving her an expressed bottle just now. I have a girly BBQ in a couple of weeks so want to keep giving her bottles regularly so that she will be ok when I am out. On Thursday night I went to the hairdressers. DD took 4oz out of bottle before her bath but after her bath she cried on and off for over an hour and refused bottle. This morning my DH got up with DD to give her a bottle to let me have a long lie but she wouldnt take it again and was really upset. I got up and fed her myself. HOWEVER, she is taking it fine now! Think her gums are hurting her and she is out of sorts and that she seeks comfort from a feed from me.

My pump is broken! It literally died when I was expressing this morning! Going today to get a new one.

Anyone got the medela mini or medela swing? Its the mini I had but Ive heard that the swing is better - it should be at double the price!

Hope you are all well.

PrincessTweetz · 17/07/2010 11:17

Harverina I broke both my pumps The first one Iain broke by being too rough with it, so I thought I'd make do with the manual one I had from dd1...but halfway through pumping one day, it snapped on me as well...too much use lol. I'm only planning on feeding a few more weeks, so I've been expressing by hand and seem to be doing ok...definitely getting the medela swing next baby though as it had some good reviews x

harverina · 17/07/2010 12:10

PrincessTweetz just been looking at the reviews for the swing and going to go for that.

Neeko · 18/07/2010 20:55

Hi all.
The medela swing is a great pump and really quick. Just a shame that H will only take milk from me... We live in hope

harverina · 18/07/2010 22:16

Hi Neeko,

Bought it today. Just sterilised all the bits but have lost the will to give it a go tonight! Will try it in the morning.

My DD is def teething. She was really upset on and off all day yesterday. She cried on an doff most of the day, was drooling, had red cheeks and had her fist in her mouth. Tried bonjela but think me rubbing her gums helped more than the actual cream. Last night she fad for hours but was really unsettled during feeding. At 10pm I decided to try and out her in bed and she fell asleep striaght away while biting down hard on my finger. Poor baby! Think we were misreading her Q's - no doubt she would have slept wearlier had we tried but because she had been unsettled the whole day we missed the fact that she was ready for bed and kept feeding and soothing her. On the plus side, she slept till 8.30am! My DH and I were sleeping for 10.30pm so I got...wait for it...10 hours sleep!!!!

DD has been better today and is now tucked up in bed. We had a day at the shops today, got some lovely things for my DD in the Next sale and some nice tops for myself too!

rumpleteaser · 19/07/2010 09:15

Hello everyone!
I knew my full nights of sleep were too good to be true, Valentin has reverted back to waking at 4/5 o'clock but it may be due to teething.. or growth spurt, not sure.

3 month vaccines went well, doc said he's definitely teething, he's growing well and gaining weight well and is now a chunky monkey and smiling and giggling loads even though he's a drooly, soggy baby!
The doc also said he has an odd shaped head and asked if anyone in my family had an odd shaped head!! Cheeky moo. I think it's his 'inverted monk' hairdo whick makes his head look a bit 'egg-like'.

NEWS: I am now engaged! Need lots of documents from British Embassy here in BG, and a blood test and then wedding should be in Sept or Oct! I have ordered Wii Fit so I can get into my leopard print wedding dress!!
I will finally have my very own dancing chicken! WOO!

Hope everyone's doing well, anyone got any teeth yet?
Valentin said his first word.... anyone know what BROOMPH means?!

Zeeky · 19/07/2010 09:53

Big congrats rumpleteaser!!! is Valentin going to be pageboy !

We've had a few good nights of George sleeping until 6am but has now reverted to waking at 3 to 4 and again at 6 which is a bit of a pain. He sleeps for Britain otherwise though - likes to have a couple of good long naps during the day which is great for getting things done round the house or doing things with DS1.

harverina · 19/07/2010 12:06

Congratulations rumleteaser, thats fantastic news!

No teeth yet - Eilidh is 15 weeks today, hadnt expected teeth so early, though she is clearly in pain with her gums.

zeeky, Eilidh doesnt always sleep during the day. Do you just put George down for naps regardless of whether he seems ready? I feel I should maybe try this. Some days she will have 2 or 3 naps, including when we are out, and other days she will hardly nap at all. We are out and about most days so not sure if this is making it harder for her to nap?

Bettymum · 19/07/2010 13:05

Congratulations Rumpleteaser! am loving the idea of the leopard print wedding dress .

Zeeky · 19/07/2010 13:40

haverina I tend to put George down on his playmat or bouncy chair (depending which room we are in) & he will happily lie there smiling at his dangling toys & will then usually just go off to sleep if he is tired. He sometimes gets a bit overtired & will then either need to be picked up and patted/shushed/swayed until he dozes off or put on his playmat or pram and left to grizzle for a minute or so before dozing off. He is really good - complete opposite of DS1 who catnapped all day & had to be rocked endlessly to sleep!

PrincessTweetz · 19/07/2010 17:02

Congrats rumpleteaser Hope you'll be putting a few piccies up of your big day!! xx
harverina, how do you pronounce your lil ones name?? I'm just being nosey so the posts seem more personal lol

nicnacinoonoo · 20/07/2010 08:25

i have been pronouncing it (in my head) as elida. is that right?

congratulations rumple i too want to see some pics

1st teeth dont usually appear until after 6 months but they usually start with the sore gums and other signs of it at around 3 months i think.

Zeeky · 20/07/2010 12:51

hAverina I've been pronouncing it ayley (like Hayley without the H) is that right? Is it Scottish or Irish?

PrincessTweetz · 20/07/2010 14:36

Zeeky I think you're right..I just googled it and it took me to a 2008 post on mumsnet and they all pronounce it ay-lee. I think it's Scottish too ...although I'm a lil scared Harverina will come online and tell me I'm totally wrong hehe xx

thedollshouse · 20/07/2010 14:56

Hi all, haven't had time to be on here for ages!

Rory doing really well although I am finding it harder as he gets older, we don't really have a routine going yet and I am finding it hard to get anything done. Can't complain though as he is a brilliant sleeper at night and has been sleeping through for quite a while now.

I can't believe it is a year since the July ante-natal thread was started, I expect there is an April 2011 now!

harverina · 20/07/2010 21:36

Yeah zeeky and princess its like hayley without the H! Its Scottish Gaelic

Had a drama last night. Dh tried to give Eilidh a bottle after her bath again and she protested rather loudly for ages. She eventually took the bottle and guzzled 6.5 oz but was still hungry so I ended up feeding her. Going to express again tomorrow and try it again othewise I'll not get my afternoon/night out next Saturday! Its starting to stress me out!

How are you all? Is the weather just as rubbish where you are? Its been pouring with rain here for about 2 weeks!

Jennysbean · 21/07/2010 11:07

Hello hello
Have just been catching up with your posts and glad you are all well.
Congrats on the engagagement Rumple
Harverina I have been invited to a hen do in agust which will mean a night away if I go ( and its a big if) I do really want to go but very anxious about leaving Romy although she will be with her Dad who is really looking forward to it! I have been expressing using a hired double ameda breast pump which looks and sounds scary but does the business, I have been freezing a supply for the night away......moo....
Romy takes a bottle but struggles with the bedtime one, apparantly that is the hardest one to crack, going to try and get DH to give it to her before her bath to break the association.
Romy still feeding once in the night and I have no routine during the day but she settles well at night and generally settles herself well for naps so thats enough for me at the moment!
Basically bloody exhausted but happy....

harverina · 22/07/2010 09:41

Jennysbean last night after Eilidh's bath, her da was holding her while I was pottering about. I remembered that I had 2.5 oz EBM in the fridge. DH sat down with Eilidh and she sucked the bottle into her mouth and guzzled it all down in one go...no tears, no struggle, no issues! One night she will be great, and the next she refuses the bottle! However, I have more hope now that I will manage to get out next weekend. I am going to the cinema on Monday night with my sister. We have ben trying to see Sex and the City for ages, so this will be a good trial as my DH will have to do the bedtime routine and give my DD a bottle. I'm going to have to leave lots of milk as she seems to drink ALOT when its expressed milk. I feel like a dairy cow .

We are in a really good routine at night time, and Eilidh still sleeps through the night. She has been going to bed later at night though and we are trying hard to get it back to 8pm. Don't feel as exhausted as the early days thank goodness.

Have started to use ashton and parsons powder for Eilidh's sore gums and this seems to be settling her. Anyone have any idea how this works?!

Bettymum · 23/07/2010 08:37

Good luck with your night out harverina!
I need a moan I'm afraid, BF has been going downhill for some reason. It's so painful now that I'm in tears pretty much every time, and it makes me feel physically sick sometimes it's so bad. I can't get back to sleep at night for ages because I'm in so much pain . I think Alexander is biting/gumming me, but I'm not sure. The worst thing is that I think that he isn't getting much milk, I'm not sure what's going on and why it's suddenly all going horribly wrong. DH thinks I should start expressing and bottle feeding but I'm not sure if that would work. Am going to go to our mums and babies group on Monday and see what they think.
Anyway, hope everyone else is well and has a lovely weekend! I think we're going to the zoo and we have a community allotment BBQ on Sunday so fingers crossed for sunshine .

PrincessTweetz · 23/07/2010 10:22

Bettymum, I express and feed Jude from a bottle, I find that sometimes he fights me when feeding from me in the day, he gets hot and bothered and struggles, and looks like he doesn't want any more, but if I fetch him a bottle. he will happily take 3-5oz from it. I don't know if when he does this it's because he's too tired but quite hungry and the milk is coming through at a pace he likes, but rather than get us both stressed, I just give him the bottle. I try and express first thing in the morning, then an hour later. I always express at night, so he has at least one bottle of milk for the next day. The first bottle of the day I will give him formula, then I know there should be one bottle for a next feed...then throughout the day I can express in 2oz doses to keep me topped up for his next feeds...he's not feeding every hour, so it works for us. Even if I start him off on me, and he feeds for about 10-15 mins, if he seems unsettled I'll offer him 3oz of milk in a bottle....I really don't think I'm making sense!! I hope I am!! Maybe he's having a bit of a growth spurt, or in need of more milk to keep him going??
Hope going to the mum and baby group helps you xx
