Morning all

Can't remember enough to post specifically so I'll just waffle and hope I cover everything!

Great poem
Great news on singapore and very of the maid!!

Ioan is finally on the mend, he actually slept well last night for the first time in almost a week so I sympathise with all the non-sleepers.
Have to say we moved away from BLW to spoon feeding with the odd bit of finger food added in as he was waking lots more at night. Sleep only resumed to one feed a night when I introduced protien. He normally has breakfast cereal then two meals with protein in a day, along with puddings and now snacks as he won't take a bottle at the CM or at home.

Last night he slept from 11 - 4:45 so maybe the illness has disturbed the routine enough to make a longer stint at night?!

Fruit could it be C needs more protein? I can't remember how big he is, but that was definitely a factor with Ioan. Luckily we've now passed through the shreiking at 5am stage. I cracked it my literally covering the whole window with blackout paper so not a peep of light showed. I find if its peeled off in a corner and a chink comes through he'll wake again around 4 or 5. Could this be a factor? I bought the paper in an art shop for 65p a sheet and it's big sheets.

Laugs are J's stools hard, like rabbit pellets, or are they firm and he's struggling to get them out with a little blood? If it's the latter then it will ease as he gets more used to eating. I had the same with my dc's and it does pass. Orange juice is good to get them going, as is brown sugar dissolved in warm water (this can be quite effective so be warned)

THoughts - Ioan has been off his food as it hurt him to swallow. He would eat fruit puree or yoghurt as they slipped down. Now he's back on the mend he seems to prefer the fruity tasty stuff than meals
Should I carry on with the premise that anything is better than nothing while building his appetite back up, or get tough and go back to mainly savoury?

good morning all! We had a better night, she was in the cot until 1.30, woke up every three hours, most times quite hungry. I guess, the teething is over for now but I've already seen the two bottom ones. They seem to get out any minute too.
Oh, and to all mums of bad sleepers: I've read in What to expect about gifted children that apparently they are often bad sleepers. So maybe that's why

Oh, and tomorrow we are flying to Vienna. My brother is getting married in a week. I'm so looking forward to the trip. I'll see friends that I haven't met in a year. Unfortunately, they all want to see Paula so it won't be much evening going out while DH does the babysitting.
Anyway, I won't have much time on the computer I suppose so I will probably miss lots of news. But I wish you all a good week.

BeckyBendyLegs · 27/05/2010 08:18

I'm not sleeping well at the moment and I am a genius

DS1 was terrible at sleeping in the day time (really, really awful) but great at night and he's on the gifted and talented register. DS2 sleeps like a dream and always has done and I think he's a clever little sausage too! But who knows?

No teeth here. DS3 is on my lap as I type being all cute and stuff.

Have a nice time in Vienna Ursigurke. Lovely city

Laugs · 27/05/2010 09:33

BBL Is the sleep no better?
I was talking to my friend the other day, who is a psychologist and she's just been learning about CBT for sleep problems. I was telling her about how, when I get up with James in the night, I have become obsessed with knowing exactly when he wakes up and when he goes back to sleep, so I can work out how much sleep I've had. I've realised it can only make me feel worse to know I've had 4 hours sleep - what's the point, it's not as if knowing the time makes me less tired.
Anyway, she said that a huge number of sleep problems are cured by getting rid of your bedside clock/ watch/ phone etc so that you can't keep checking the time. Worth a try?

Thanks for all the advice re poo! He had another one last night, which was much more normal, and there was no blood either, so that's a relief. I hope things improve for you hobnob.

Have a great trip Ursi! I loved Vienna too (Is that where you're from?) I am sitting next to a poster from MUMOK - if that's what you call it? - the museum of modern art.

skorpion · 27/05/2010 09:40

BBL. Glad to hear working is helping.

Ursigurke have a great time. I'm taking Lucy over to Poland in a couple of weeks. Big trip, three weeks on our own and then dh is coming for another two weeks. Mat leave - grab the chance while it's there.

Feel sorry for all the non-sleepers' mums.

Laugs sorry, no tips. Hope he gets better soon.

Scarlotti personally I would try to get back onto savoury things, but not make a big issue out of it so it doesn't become a battle. Maybe mash things a bit more so they are easier to swallow? Not really a great tip, sorry.

What are your plans for the weekend? We're going camping in the New Forest! There's quite a bunch of us going, some with kids, some without, and even apparently a pregnant lady, too. Will make me feel better not to be the only one not having a drink. Taking our bikes and hoping to palm Lucy off to a couple of good friends for a couple of hours of baby-free time. Let's hope the weather is good.

skorpion · 27/05/2010 09:46

Laugs x-posted, typing with one hand. Good news. I found the same in the past (few years back) - not being able to break the cycle of cheking the clock and not being able to sleep worrying that another hour has gone and I'm fully awake. Horrible.

skorpion · 27/05/2010 09:47

Can anyone recommend a good place on the internet to print photos, please? Thanks.

weston · 27/05/2010 10:13

i find photobox good for online printing

Trikken · 27/05/2010 10:54

I've never tried on-line printing. sounds interesting.

Annabelle has been sleeping well and I do when I have the chance to sleep, seems I have too much to do before I end up getting to bed.

Dh had another accident in the car sigh. Luckily he is fine and wasn't his fault as a deer ran in front of him when he was doing 70 on the duel carriageway on his way from finishing his work to picking me up from mine late Tues eve. fil and my step-dad have both looked at it and said it isn't too bad,but may take a while to fix as we have to go looking for second hand parts. we cant use it even as the front passenger door is all buckled in. We are considering buying another one instead, that is cheaper to run.

Dh has his appt with vasectomy consultant tonight. am hoping he gives us the go-ahead. fil has to give us a lift now as we are car-less, and is a 38 Min journey by car.

ursigurke · 27/05/2010 11:00

Thanks for all the good wishes for our trip.
Laugs, I'm not from Vienna but used to live there for about 10 years. Went there for my studies and stayed. And when we go back to Austria it will be to Vienna. I like the MUMOK too.
Oh, and since yesterday Paula is once again constipated. I just remembered that a warm/hot water can help too. So I gave her a bit this morning and it seemed to help a bit.

skorpion, I'm sure Poland will be great. I'm thinking of going to my parents for a couple of weeks in summer and DH only joining for a couple of days.
There is a toy shop in Vienna owned by a lady from Slovakia. She has the best toys, either made by herself or from czech brands (I think). One is sapito, one is ludus. I could imagine you can find them in Poland and have a look. We have a couple of soft toys and the best playmat ever. I quite like the colours, they do not use those crazy colours so many toys nowadays have.
Ok, I really need to get packing started

Fruitpastels · 27/05/2010 14:45

scarlotti Glad to hear Ioan is now on the mend. I would maybe cut out the fruity stuff for a day or two whilst you're working on the savoury. Not easy when they become fussy I know. DS1 was the fussiest eater from a young age. I really don't want C to end up like his big DB.

Well, we had a MUCH better night Fish dinner, bath, bf then bed at 7.15pm. Woke up at midnight and 4am for quick feeds, slept until 7am!!! I'm a very happy mummy today Now I hope I haven't jinxed myself talking about my super sleeping baby!!

scarlotti Lot's of protein in C's dinner last night. So you could be right that it helps them sleep for longer. I need to get my chef hat on and get cooking and store meals in the freezer. I will also look at the black out card. Seems like a very good idea.

Ursi Enjoy your break. Hope Paula's teething is over for a little while.

Trikken sorry about your car

scarlotti · 27/05/2010 15:56

Well, he took some solids at lunchtime today so am hoping we're getting back on track slowly! Was the lentils dish he likes.

Fruit hooray on your night. I cook up the AK recipes, only because it saves me having to think of things and they're always a hit.
Roast chicken dinner here for tea tonight so he'll have some combos of that in the freezer later!

ursi have a lovely holiday

trikken yes, sorry to hear about your car.

Had an emergency dental appointment today as have pain. Turns out an old root canal is infected - have anti-b's for the pain and now have to potentially have it re-root filled. Putting the shivers up me just thinking about it!

OP posts:
Fruitpastels · 27/05/2010 17:26

I have the AK book too. I bought it when I weaned DS1. Some good ideas in there. Acutally I still use the hidden vegetable sauce that DS1 will always eat with pasta. I had stores of that in the freezer so both DS' had that for teatonight with spaghetti (cut up in tiny pieces for C). He loved it and ate quite a lot. Just wondering how some of you are gaging portions?

C has been very mobile today. His rolls have become flips and very fast.

Poor you Scarlotti I hope you can get it over with ASAP! I'm not good at the dentist either and I've been lucky to get to nearly 34 years old without fillings. But I still fear them poking around in my mouth. Does your exempt card cover the work to be done?

SirBoobAlot · 27/05/2010 18:29

Scarlotti Christ, you are in the wars this week, aren't you? Hope you both feel better soon.

Trikken sorry about your car And hope the doctor gives you the answer you want.

Fruit yey for a good night - fingers crossed for another

Ursi enjoy your holiday Send us a virtual postcard

Ohhh Skorpion that sounds lovely. Am slightly . I print all my photos at Boots - though they have just changed the computer system and it is a nightmare; if they don't get a software and hardware upgrade soon I shall take my business elsewhere...

Wook how is DS doing?

Been a strange few days here. Bryn has started fighting on the boob - once he's latched, its fine. But getting him latched is a nightmare. He got in such a temper the other day, he flung himself back and whacked his head on the radiator. Cue mass panic from me (he's fine now). Today he spent in his PJs as I frankly couldn't be bothered to get him dressed But he seems happy enough!

skorpion · 27/05/2010 19:17

Thanks Weston, they're also on Kidstart, aren't they?

skorpion · 27/05/2010 19:27

Scarlotti ouchie, hate having anything done to my teeth. Hope it clears up soon.

Trikken bummer about the car. Good luck to dh for tonight's appt.

Fruit brilliant! Amazing what a good night can do, eh?

SirB I spotted that at Boots, thanks. Just wanted something online so it's wait and hassle-free. Don't like to use machines like those. Something I remind myself of every bloody time I decide to go for self-checkout at a supermarket or self-pay at petrol pump. Will I ever learn?... Could it be Bryn's teeth bothering him again?

Fruitpastels · 27/05/2010 19:46

SirB C went through a phase of doing what Bryn is up to. He would also latch on and then pull his head back with nipple in mouth. It didn't last long and I don't think I got to the bottom of it, but had a few ideas of the cause. Teething, tummy ache, over active let down, not hungry but wants comfort. I'm sure this will pass and he'll be back to business. And yes, a good night has made me feel like a new women today

Fruitpastels · 27/05/2010 19:47

We will need a new thread soon ladies!

SirBoobAlot · 27/05/2010 20:17

Fruit, I know, was just thinking that... Am trying to come up with a clever title but nothing is happening tonight Anyone got any ideas?

BabbatheHun · 27/05/2010 20:44

Hey ladies. It is still the Cat here. Namechanged due to some silly thread about not liking the words 'bubba' or 'hun' so I went on in this guise to rib them a bit. And sort of not got around to changing!

sirboob Bear cub is fussing too. He is partly distracted, but partly he seems frustrated somehow. I am not entirely sure why, and he was a bit like that with his food today too. I am wondering about teething. He is dribbling like crazy, and he has nappy rash, which is quite random in places and blistery/raw looking in patches. DD only ever got nappy rash when she was teething. She had it the same as he has. Also, he has a cold, runny nose, which DD also got when teething. However, I also wonder if he has a sore throat/actual cold as he is wanting to feed little and often today and has slightly dark dry edge to his top lip.

He is not settling well at night atm either. He goes off after long period of suckling, sleeps til 11pm or so, fusses for about hour, then sleeps for about 2-3 hours, then fusses for a good hour, won't be put down, then sleeps til 5:45am. He is not wanting to go down for naps, and will only sleep on either me or DH, wakes crying if put down. Also sleeping with his mouth open atm, so waking with a dry throat i think.

ursi enjoy your trip, you are becoming quite the jetsetter aren't you?

scarlotti ouch on the teeth, hope it is not too traumatic for you. I, like fruit have not ever had any fillings so far. But I am sure that is likely to change as I have reoccuring tooth ache that I am choosing to ignore for now .

Bear cub is eating well, he is enjoying toast! He really likes butternut squash, and this evening I cooked some baby pasta shells really really soft then chopped them into tiny pieces and mixed with some pureed squash to give some texture and carbs - he liked it, but has been more fussy with his food today. I know that is the case as he fussed when I naughtily offered him a spoon of custard! He is quite keen to hold food/spoon and has developed a little temper if he cannot. He flings himself backwards and forwards in his highchair, crying, doing jazz hands, and has hit his head on the highchair table once! Oh dear, he did not learn.

laugs I think it was you who posted about "Beautiful Days'. I have not been myself, was hoping to go this year but our finances will probably not allow us. However, several of our close friends go each year, with their children (aged now 5/7 but been going for the last 3-4 years?) and one of the couples has a baby now and they are going this year, they say it is very child friendly. The Levellers seem to play there most years. You never know, if we have a miracle happen, we might see you there if you go!

Have court case tomorrow re cowboybuilder. Not nervous, just want it over with. We are vaguely considering asking the judge just to chuck it all out as we are fed up with the hassle of it, and the bloke is a horrible man. But then, that fact makes me want to win and not give up.

scarlotti · 27/05/2010 20:45

How does this one grab you?
