Gosh, religion as a child. Mum took me at Christmas and I was being a real little brat, so my grandpa took me to the front of the church to look at the nativity scene and during a silence, Mum heard me say "I can see baby Jesus, but where the hell's God". HA! Evil me. Set me up for life!

We're going to get one of those rucksacks as well, although DD not yet busy enough at walking to need one. Wont' be long though, i suspect!

JJ DD has the ladybird too! It is very cute.

invisible I'm sure introduction to Christianity through Jesus Christ Superstar is confusing enought without all the other connotations. Hippies dancing about the the desert and all that! I must admit to really enjoying the soundtrack though even if the theology is rather confused "then we'll retire and write the gospels....". Phah!

Back later.

TheInvisibleHand · 14/04/2010 15:36

JJ - no foot in mouth at all! More general whiffling on my part, as between trips to church and passover at DD's jewish nursery am currently spending a lot of time untangling theology, when I am basically agnostic..."Where is God?" (so you're not the only one beans), "Why did bad things happen to pharaoh?" "Why did pharaoh do naughty things?" etc etc. And she isn't even 3 yet! I was more worrying about whether I'd put foot in mouth myself..

Beans33 · 14/04/2010 15:52

I love Jesus Christ Superstar songs! Saddo, moi? Although I'm sure it has something to do with me being an atheist - all a bit confusing! Although am v interested in religion - find it fascinating and wanted to study theology at university.

My sister tried to give me a bit of sex education before I went to boarding school when I was 11 and asked me what I thought an erection was. Apparently I said "Isn't it something to do with Jesus?". Perhaps it was, but nothing was recorded in the bible to that effect!!!!

On ladyt child positivity note - DD is being a little star at the moment and walks round and round the chair you're sitting on (or round you if you're sitting on the floor) and appears in your eyeline, bends her head forwards and says "boo!". Then giggles hopelessly. I think it is one of the sweetest things ever!

PS I have a vile taste in my mouth this afternoon - is that pregnancy related do you think? Have just had soup for lunch, then a bowl of shreddies as wasn't full!

OP posts:
JumpJockey · 14/04/2010 16:00

I'm really not looking forwards to when dd starts asking questions like "is granddad going to hell?" (my dad is an atheist) but fortunately dh has recently started reading lots of theology books to prepare himself!

Invis, could you train your kids up with Joseph and his dreamcoat instead of JCSS?! It was red and yellow and pink and green and scarlet and black and ochre and peach and ruby and olive and violet and fawn and chocolate and mauve and ??? and blue! (we did it at primary school!)

TheInvisibleHand · 14/04/2010 16:19

Ooh yes JJ - we had our fill of Joseph, I am sure I could sing the whole thing verbatim at one stage (in the loosest possible sense, I can't carry a tune). That's prob why JCSS was such a shock...

TheInvisibleHand · 14/04/2010 16:26

Oh and beans, the vile taste could well be preg related - pregnancy definitely did some very strange things to my taste buds

Rubena · 14/04/2010 16:27

at the UN negotiator JJ!
Invis thanks for the tip regarding food options at Willow Farm - I will make sure ds is covered but I'm so unorganised, I doubt I'll sort myself out - at least I can prepare for the worst.

After ds hurled apples and banana's at me over lunch he just appeared from the kitchen munching happily on a half eaten apple he has retireved from the bin - nice.
I have just cut him up another - it seems he prefers half apples to small chunks

Athiest here too - but I missed how the conversation started?

Beans, vile taste probably the pregnancy.

DH had a half day at work and he has fallen asleep within an hour of being home. DS woke up crying and I did a little test putting the monitor on full volume to which dh didn't even stir. DS has since got a ceramic plate from the kitchen counter and has dropped it on the tiles (which miraculously didn't break) - dh still asleep 5 foot away. DS has now just found his wooden hammer and is bashing his firetruck just a foot from dh's head (dh still fast asleep on couch) and he wonders why I worry when he's left alone in charge...

Beans33 · 14/04/2010 16:44

Cripes, that's some noise to ignore. I think men actually can consciously ignore noises in their sleep, subconsciously, if you see what I mean.

We've just had our offer rejected on the house we really wanted and we can't up it any further. Bum. Never mind.

am hoping to offer on another one, but DH thinks it's too far out. I think it's lovely though!

Beans33 · 14/04/2010 16:46

Shall I post a link to it? It looks more expensive than it is - we couldn't offer asking price!!!

OP posts:
SummerLightning · 14/04/2010 16:50

Yes post a link to it!!

I like Balham/Streatham, I used to live in Balham.

Beans33 · 14/04/2010 16:54

this is it

Cor it's massive!!
How long are you planning on renting for, and will you buy again? Are you expecting house prices to go down?

Rubena · 14/04/2010 17:00

That's massive Beans! Strewth - how much can you afford to offer? Or don't answer that if you don't want to - I'm a bit nosy... Come and live near us a bit further out as it's cheaper!

Beans33 · 14/04/2010 17:04

Planning on renting for a year maximum, then hopefully move out of London altogether.

DH wants to cycle into the City, hence why we can't move further out. It's v expensive, isn't it? We're both panicking a bit about the cost!!! Especially as I won't be being paid after August any more. EEK. But have saved my wages since I came back to work, so those will cover rent for a few months...

If he's not willing to give up his cycle, then unfortunately we have to stump up. Our absolute max is £1800pcm, but it's going to be a real struggle!

OP posts:
SummerLightning · 14/04/2010 17:09

He can cycle to the City from there no problem. Tell him it will help him become Mr Iron Man.

DH and I had a similar problem when we looked to buy in London as we both wanted to cycle in, and we could only afford little places within cyclable distance (either that or they were in areas we didn't like). We moved out of London in the end instead of buying there!

Can you consider renting somewhere a bit smaller as it's only for 1 year max?

Rubena · 14/04/2010 17:12

Beans dh cycles 22 miles each way to work! Move further out! We have four bedrooms but don't pay near that - having said that, I've just had a bit of a wobble about the business of the road out the front and our lease is up in September and we can't buy another house until the market picks up and we sell our flat so I may just have a little nose around at what the rental market has to offer. I do like this house though - just hate the busy road as ds has a sudden interest in trying to get out the front

Beans33 · 14/04/2010 17:12

SL - hoping house prices are going to go down after we've sold ours! My boss here reckons they will soon as it's a bit of an unrealistic bubble at the moment. I work in property - but it's commercial, not residential. But who knows. Everyone said they would crash a year ago, but it seems to have bounced back up again now!

It is such an amazing house. I've slightly set my sights on it, but can guarantee we won't get it!! And I don't think DH will like it, damn it!

OP posts:
Rubena · 14/04/2010 17:14

'how busy' not business!

Beans33 · 14/04/2010 17:14

Yes, you're right. I think we'll have to start looking at 3bed places. I'd love 4 so we can have friends to stay - plus DH was going to have a study/playroom as he's in process of setting up his own business.

OP posts:
Beans33 · 14/04/2010 17:17

God, I sound quite spoilt, don't I? I'm not, I promise. But have looked at 3 bed houses too and there is bog all on the market. am getting a bit worried about it now. It's so quiet on rentals at the moment. And am fretting that DH has unrealistic ideas about what we can get and where for our budget. The place I posted is a bargain compared to others I've seen!!! he's put me in charge of househunting as am only working 3 days a week, but means that he seems to think I'm trying to go over our budget! Ho hum.

Anyway, we'll find something if this falls through!

OP posts:
SummerLightning · 14/04/2010 17:22

It's tricky I guess with renting - you don't want to be crammed in but rent is a bit of a waste of money!! We want to buy a 4 bed ideally for the same reasons you state. DH wants his study still even though he doesn't work from home any more. Sigh.

I think house prices might go down round here as well. I think they've gone a bit daft high again after dipping. But I just want somewhere to live so I guess we will have to live with it if they do, I did have a quick look at rentals and there are really not many around that aren't studenty!

SummerLightning · 14/04/2010 17:23

I guess the issue is that 4 sharers could want that property and then it would be quite affordable per person.
