Hope this is better - sorry all!

Beans33 · 28/04/2010 12:54

Oh god, I hadn't even thought of that. Bugger. Edward is our first choice too. DAMN! But DH hasn't read them and I'm sure they're a passing fad, so no one will remember in a few years.

Ooh, I like Peter as well - and Guy. Also underused.

OP posts:
LadyThompson · 28/04/2010 12:57

Guy is LOVELY. Loving Guy. Mmmmm. And I don't usually go for shorter names.

I hadn't spotted that about Twilight either. We had a book at work once and the names of the main characters were Victoria and David - I thought nothing of it but David became James because of the Beckhams.

SummerLightning · 28/04/2010 13:01

I know a dog called Monty, so no!! It's MIL's friends dog so she would have a fit!

I like Matt as well. Not sure on Bertie, but that is just me, I am not keen on the in fashion old names like Archie, Arthur, etc (don't hate them mind you, just not my cup of tea) and this comes in that bracket for me.

I think you might be ok beans as long as Izzy doesn't decide she wants to be known as Bella when she is older! Not keen on Prudence as I knew a Prudence who was very quiet and shy and it suited her a bit too much, if you know what I mean.

JollyBear · 28/04/2010 13:06

DD has a popular name but I haven't yet met another 'baby' Lucy IYSWIM. There are a few on this thread but I haven't come across one at nursery or baby groups etc. The trouble with some 'unusual' names is that they can become increasingly common. I hesitate to name names but I've met lots of babies called Isla recently. It is a 'new' name on the rise I think.

I like Guy, Edward, George, Bertie etc.

Oh and Peter is great. DH is Peter and it was only after we named DD that someone pointed out that we were only an Edmund away from being the children from the Chronicles of Narnia!!!

SummerLightning · 28/04/2010 13:13

I think I might go the hard sell on Peter (even though it would make us half way to Narnia too).
DH had put it on the short list then changed his mind and vetoed it.

I know a few Islas too jolly, not helped by me never pronouncing it right, i have a mental block. I always say Ilsa!!!

daisydora · 28/04/2010 13:43

Quickie from work...woohoo Rubes/Pubes on the baby girl fab news

Not had chance to catch up any much else so hope you are all well...DD was a trooper at her jabs on Monday. Started having a chat with the nurse about a zoo she had been to as she was giving the injections. It went like this...

DD: I went to a zoo last week
Nurse: Really was it good?
DD: Yes it wasn't Chester zoo, it was a long way away in our car.
Nurse: Which zoo was that mum?
Me: Paignton zoo
DD: It has lots of animals
Nurse: Did they have lions?
DD: I'm not sure but they did have 3 reticulated pythons and a crocodile!

By this point nurse had finished jabs, and was flabbergasted by DD's ability to name various kinds of reptiles. She is scared of the cute things but the creepies she loves!

LadyThompson · 28/04/2010 13:46

Hello Jolly!

I have had another idea - Miles. Miles is a brill name. Very restrained for me.

Peter is very good though. A classic, but at the same time you're somehow never going to come across tons of them.

Veggiemummy · 28/04/2010 13:48

Gosh this thread was so quiet this morning and I go abs pick up DS1 from school and it's filled a page & a bit!

Loving the name talked, my fav mentioned is Cecelia, it was a possible if we had a girl because MIL is Celia so kind of after her. Lady I find myself not disliking Daffodil but hating Theodora I'm not sure why because I like Theodore, I think I have something against feminised male names.

Rubs we have one son who has a very popular name and one whose name isn't unusual but was on the iffy list for me. I can say now I'm happy with both names and they really suit their names. I think forget popularity and what others might think or what will be ok in 20 years just go with what you like. But most important of all don't tell anyone!

Oh isn't the weather just lovely. It's DS1's last day of school before the 2 week term break tomorrow. I'm hoping the weather is nice and we can spend sometime on the beach!

We've just discovered that DH has been paying €500 a month for private use of his work car. If he says he only uses it for work he doesn't pay that and get back payed from November! We were going to go on a driving holiday in France in the summer but with the money we save on the car we could go on a better holiday! We are thinking of maybe going to south east Asia and popping home for a week or two to look at schools for the boys and I have my 20 year school reunion in September so could fit it all in around that. Very exciting! I think we deserve a big holiday as DH has been working hard and we forfeited a winter sun holiday and a ski holiday to try to save some money. Also would be nice to see family & friends. So far only my mum & niece have met DS2.

I'm feeling better now as I dosed up on paracetamol. I think I'll need a hot toddy tonight though. Lady how is your headache.

WG did you remember your MIL stories?

SummerLightning · 28/04/2010 13:49

Miles was on our shortlist last time. It got taken off somehow. Though it reminds me of the chap from This Life (as does Ferdinand!)

Veggiemummy · 28/04/2010 13:50

Lol at the reticulated python Daisy!

LadyThompson · 28/04/2010 13:52

I loved Thie Life. Maybe it has sneaked into my subconscious. Jack Davenport aside, though, Miles is great.

Shifted the headache, Veg. Hurrah. Glad you are better.

SummerLightning · 28/04/2010 13:53

What IS a reticulated python??
What a clever girl.

Cool news about the car and the cash Veggie, you definitely deserve a lovely holiday.

Yes wg I would like some MIL stories!

Rubena · 28/04/2010 13:55

summer yes I HAVE met Poison!! Whats worse is I remember her on my FB as she told me to look at her photos of her two kids 2 inches from the telly! Then I deleted her double I just didn't put the name and her together when i was in delete mode, but it seems I did that with a couple Poor Poison - I have now done a FB friend request but nada... perhaps she doesn't want to be my friend I bet she's just busy
I'm loving this name talk but have to rush to mothercare and then we're off bike riding but tonight i'll be back I like Oliver !!

LadyThompson · 28/04/2010 13:59

Claudia is a nice name.

Your DD is a little star, Daisy.

SummerLightning · 28/04/2010 14:25

Would you pronounce Claudia Clow-dia or Claw-dia (I have heard both)??

I always think of it as a German name, is it common in Germany?

I am sure poison will forgive you rubes

Beans33 · 28/04/2010 14:28

Daisy - a genius - what on earth is that kind of python?!!! Wowsers.

I only like Claudia pronounced as per claw. Otherwise is a bit harsh sounding. I knew a nice Claudia once. One of the only people in my house and year at a certain school I went to, who didn't bully me senseless... I can't name schools on here, can I?

OP posts:
JollyBear · 28/04/2010 15:04

Ooh Claudia is lovely. I think Celestine is gorgeous and Celeste. Everyone who I mentioned that too said 'Oh no what about Daphne and Celeste' . They hardly made a huge mark on the music scene but I suppose they were rather memorable.

daisy reminded me I didn't says anything to rubes about her big reveal. Very exciting indeed! One of each.

daisy I love your DD's reptile knowledge. Very impressive.

WG I forgot to say before that our neighbour is German and we always know when her daughter or dog are in trouble as she shouts in German. It sounds very authoritative!

Must get back to work...

SummerLightning · 28/04/2010 15:13

your girls names are all much more adventurous than the one we have chosen!

It's not a currently common name but it is classic and normal. In fact there is someone on this thread with it as a first name. But no babies that I know of.

On unusualish girls names I currently really like Meredith.

Beans33 · 28/04/2010 15:26

SL - I've forgotten - have you decided to find out what you're having? I didn't think you had, for some reason...

OP posts:
SummerLightning · 28/04/2010 15:30

No, we don't know!

We've decided on girls name, but not on boys, hence why i've only mostly been discussing boys.

Sorry to bore everyone by the way today. I am work-avoiding!!!

Beans33 · 28/04/2010 15:35

Me too, SL - and you're not boring me at all - keeping me sane in fact !

OP posts:
Beans33 · 28/04/2010 15:42

Tell you what - I eat so much more when I'm bored. no wonder am so chubby. Today had 2 croissants for breakfast, a salmon sandwich (grim, so actually only ate half), bag of crisps, dairy milk, piece of cake. Grub grub. I am stuffed full, but would still eat if offered purely because am bored.

OP posts:
SummerLightning · 28/04/2010 15:44

I do as well.
I'm not very hungry at the moment though. And I get heartburn if I eat too much. fingers crossed it stays like that (preferably without worse heartburn though) so I don't turn into a massive heifer like last time.

daisydora · 28/04/2010 15:48

Claudia is a lovely name, however it would not go with my surname very well.

I love Oliver Rubes...but I always had a thing about not wanting the name shortened, and never quite liked Oli as much. However I called DS 'Harry' and I usually call him 'H' canit get much shorter than that!

I think a reticulated python is the world's longest snake...I'll check with DD and let you know. Thing is she's not one for 'Oh its just a snake' She has to no specifics...can't believe she remembered!!

daisydora · 28/04/2010 15:49

'know', not 'no'
