For itching Spot give him a small amount of Piriton syrup and I think bathing in bicarb of soda is meant to help with itching. But google that one to make sure.

LadyThompson · 20/04/2010 16:05

Spot, we didn't have the itchies but DD was ill for about 4-5 days. She had a high temp, slight rash, vomiting I think as well. Hope he feels better soon.

Sorry about your flight Aubi. I have been scouring the web myself as am meant to be flying to Switzerland a week on Thurs. It looks like all airports will be opening in the next couple of days, so you may actually be ok.

Trying to be more positive about the MIL. I have come up with two things so far: 1) she came down to paint, which is very kind and coming from a good place and 2) she does adore my DD. However, once I start trying to think of more positives I start to think of ones like "at least she lives 100 miles away" and I think that is straying back into the negative

Sorry about the delayed interview, Invis. And your poor BIL...

Modern, I seem to remember you watched The Apprentice with me last year, are you planning to watch this year? I am sad Margaret has gone, but I love Karren Brady. Used to dislike her but changed my mind a couple of years ago. Also I think she dresses so nicely

That day spa sounds nice, Rubes. Maybe we should look at places that are nearer Daisy as you point out - I think she is Lancs and that's a long way to London, let alone continental Europe. Mmmm....maybe we could try a Midlands meet up.

I bet you aren't at all chunky, Trace, you look like a little sylph in pictures.

Gur, loads of other stuff I wanted to say but I have forgotten it. Oh yeah - good luck with staying off the fags, Katie. Never smoked myself but giving up always sounds so hard. All power to ya!

Veggiemummy · 20/04/2010 16:42

What's a Sylph? I can do a midlands meet up, a flight to the east midlands airport is prob cheaper than the train to Brux. It would need to be somewhere we can get to by train though as I wouldn't have a car?!?! That's problem isn't it.

Bum bum bum. DH was booked on a flight at 7pm but it's just been cancelled. Unfortunately he rang me while we were in the supermarket when he rang anf I consoled myself by buying apple tart and some pastries to have with my coffee tomorrow.

DS2 slept all the way through my ANZWC coffee morning this morning. I don't mean we went there and he slept I mean he fell asleep before we left. Hang on have I told you this?

DS1 made the strawberry ice cream recipe from I can cook today and when he was squashing the strawberries (a fruit so not something he likes at all!) he said 'eh, these smell horrible, it makes me feel sick'. He didn't say it in a cheeky boy way he said it quite seriously. There is def something wrong with that boys taste sensation. He desperately wants to be able to eat strawberries as he thinks they look lovely. We went strawberry picking once and loved it, and since then has tried to eat them but can't seem to bring himself to put them in his mouth. DS2 on the otherhand just ate 4. Also yesterday DS1 made lasagne (do you see a pattern here, I'm trying to make him self sufficient, no more cooking tea for me!) & there was leftover tinned tomato in a bowl at the table, when I wasn't looking DS2 got up to the table and ate it all! The child is a garbage bin.

Beans33 · 20/04/2010 16:45

Gosh, horrid measles symptoms. I hope it all picks up soon. I went for DD's 2nd jab a couple of weeks ago and was told it wasn't needed til she's 18 months, so am not worrying about that at themoment!

I've just been to a global debate within our company (mahoosive company I work for - one of the world's biggest), and it's being hosted here and beamed across the offices of the world so we were all on display. I had to walk out for a pee twice and when 3rd time arose, I haven't bothered going back. Plus I fell asleep between 1st and 2nd pee. V embarrassing. ONly been in there for 40 mins. Oops.

Also, I've got a urinary tract infection from this pregnancy, I think. Blood in pee last Thursday. Waiting for results, but I'm pretty sure I have got one as need to drink loads of water and get slightly achey insides if I walk too far. I should be abstaining from sex, shouldn't I? That's what I've been telling DH anyway - hee hee! Yippee! Where is my mojo??!

Veggiemummy · 20/04/2010 16:45

Oh sorry Spot I forgot you, if it's really itchy take him to the GP, first, they need to record the reaction, though they may say it's not from the MMR because it's over a week since the jab. Second, you can get a prescription for the piriton and maybe one of the cooling creams then you don't have to pay for them.

Beans33 · 20/04/2010 16:46

Veggie - xposted with you. I love that story about your DS2 being garbage bin. Made me giggle at my desk! V sweet. x

PS Rubes - am off to Danesfield House this weekend!

Trace - you definitely should go for your weekend away - you'll love it! I'm off to treat myself to a bit of me time this weekend with a friend. So excited about it as really do want a relaxing time. My friend's due a week after me with her 2nd (her first is 5 days younger than Whizz). It's going to be so lovely. Just taking loads of books and a couple of DVDs and having an antenatal massage and some cream teas. I'm so excited. We get 2 three course meals in the deal as well - hurray hurrah! And I have to say, I don't feel guilty about it at all.

DH is, of course, rushing back to his parent's house with DD to get his Mum's help. I have to be honest - I really wish he was staying in London and coping on his own, then he could see that it is quite time-consuming and sometimes, dare I say it, quite dull! But I knew he wouldn't. Honestly, man up, DH!!!

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 20/04/2010 18:41

Veggie: dh took the boys to the supermarket, paid for the shopping, looked down and there was ds2 munching a kinder egg! He'd nabbed it, unwrapped it and eaten half. Ds1 was outraged.

modernlove · 20/04/2010 19:03

LadyT - yes I can't wait for the apprentice to begin. Do you know when it's supposed to start? I haven't seen any adverts yet.

Well ten minutes ago I had a sleeping DS on me and I was wondering whether to get him seen this evening as his breathing is terrible. But he woke up ran over to DH to steal some yoghurt and is giggling away with DH now! Breathing still not great but I'm not as worried.

Beans - Very jealous of your weekend away. It sounds like it will be so relaxing.

Effie - love that story and DS1 being outraged! How cute!

Rubena · 20/04/2010 19:16

Yeah, I think a lot of people might think I'm a nutter putting ds in a bed at 18 months, but my logic was based on ds being such a good sleeper and I might be foolish in trying to do things the same way! DS was in his own room at 12 weeks so hoping this next one will be able to do the same and therefore I will need the cot back pretty soon after baby 2 makes an appearance, and didn't want to try and settle ds1 in a new bed when I've got baby to deal with - does that make sense? I might be foolish but can only try so wish me luck!

Well decided to do initital shop ar Aldi - all good then drove not far to a shopping centre to pop in to Baby Gap as I wanted to get ds some more of their PJ's I love, and pick up the rest of the things at Sainsbury's that I couldn't get at Aldi - DB's DP rang and was needing a chat - 2 hours later I've abandoned the Sainsbury's shop (no signal on mobile and she really needed to talk) and I spent the last hour on the phone looking for my carpark ticket otherwise £15 quid for all day ticket if lost Managed to plead with the central parking office who managed to let me off with a £3.50 ticket if I met the parking attendant at the office - Then, I get there and she had just found a ticket! Wasn't mine but I pretended to be vague about the time I arrived as it was only a £1.50 ticket! (was that bad? ) It was only 45 minutes after the time I really parked there! Ended up stopping at Tesco instead for the rest of the things and eventually got home!

Anyway, sorry about the infection Beans - and enjoy Danesfield house

Rubena · 20/04/2010 19:17

Effie - that's hilarious!

Veggiemummy · 20/04/2010 19:49

Effie Lol at your outraged DS1.

Rubs, sorry that all sounds quite stressful...but it made me giggle. Is DB ok? We changed DS1's cotbed from cot to bed (ie took the sides off and did something with the foot of it) when he was 18 months because despite being only just able to reach the rail with his chin he was able to climb over and out of it. So we figured if he was gonna get out anyway it would be safer out of the bed bit. So we put a rail up to keep him from falling out and he was fine and very rarely got out of bed except in the morning when he woke. He is actually back in it now as we had him in a double guest bed in Derby but it is upstairs in the guest room and doesn't fit in his room. But I just bought a 2nd hand ikea bunk bed for €15 which we are picking up on Thursday. He is pretty excited about it. Rubs when we set up DS1's cotbed bed we got him to 'help' and made a big deal about it so he was so excited to change to the proper big boy bed.

Right I think it's time for pudding, apple tart, yum. I'm also gonna have a sneaky taste of DS1's strawberry ice cream.

Beans33 · 21/04/2010 09:36

LADYT and Modern - I heard a horrible rumour that The Apprentice might not happen this year because Siralan is now a political advisor, so he won't be allowed to go on TV in his capacity on The Apprentice... But I'm hoping that's nonsense.

How was everyone's night?

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 21/04/2010 09:53

Hooray J finally slept through, I'm hoping that he is finally through teething (for now) and colds and is back to sleeping though again. Would be very nice. Poor DS1 was so tired this morning he opted to sleep in for 15 more mins rather than cycle himself to school. As it was we were running late and I had to sprint to school with both of them on the bike.

I think I might be crazy I'm meeting a friend at a reallY cool goat farm about 8km from here and it's a bit of a faff to get to by tram so I thought I might ride. We still don't have the attachment for the trailer (the one we had was attached to the bike that got stolen) so both boys will be on the bike with me. DS2 is in non nap
mode (today when I want him to he won't sleep) and I need him to have a good nap as he can't sleep on the bike. So I'm going to take him out for a walk now and pick up DS1 from school while we are out. I might pop into the bike shop and see if I can get an attachment for the pushchair on the bike then at least I can put DS2 into it down there if I need to.

sybilfaulty · 21/04/2010 10:25

Hello dear ladies

Apparently the Apprentice has been filmed and is waiting to be shown once the results of the General Election are in. As suralan is Lab peer, it would apparently be inappropriate for him to get so much airtime pending the results. But I am sure it will be a goodie, and a nice antidote to the World Cup. I am trying to persuade DH to watch most of it in the pub as I don't want it here (sorry Veg) so I should have lots of opportunity to get on MN and to have the girls round in the evening.

Veg, I think you are amazing and such a great example to your kids. You just get on with it and don't let things faze you. If I am being a wuss about things, I do think of you and it inspires me to be strident and brave. An E Mids meet is prob not possible for me at the moment but I think it would be great if it came off. Hope you get to do your cycle today and you sort out the attachments.

Where are you on the house thing Beans? Can I come and see you once you're in as I'm only in Dulwich so not far from Streatham.

Rubes, your Ebaying adventures sound great. I love Ebay too and was thrilled by a Mulberry Ipod case to protech my new and delicious piece of kit, only a tenner too, but the 99p bed makes it pale into insignificance. I've got a rail going begging if you'd ike it? It's a Lindam one and doesn't really work with the cotbed we have so it's yours if you'd like it. My DD2 is 3 and still in a cot. She loves it! Matthew will be in a cot til at least 11 at this rate, being the PLB.

Potty training - I think EC is something different altogether, but I did potty trining for both my girls at 2.6 and they got it really quickly. If you wait til they are older, they can control their muscles better and so it is more painless for you. Less wee on your nice clean floors too. I won't even be thinking about it for M til summer next year.

Waxing - I only had one bikini wax and would rather go hairy than go through that again. I did a bit of light topiary in the shower yest and clearly was a bit overzealous as I have a few bald patches and the whole thing itches like anything. I look as though I have pubic alopecia! Awful and not erotic. Not that that was the point. Did anyone see the swimming sketch on smack the pony a few years back? I'll see if I can find it on youtube.

Has anyone heard from Kayz? I don't do FB so don't hear her news that way. And huge congratulations to Modernlove on your news. Very exciting having all these new babies to look forward to.

There were lots of other things I wanted to say but now can't remember. Have a lovely day everyone and see you later. Love to you all.

sybilfaulty · 21/04/2010 10:26

I do mine for swimming. Is this a good look?

sybilfaulty · 21/04/2010 10:29

And this one ladies - my favourite Smack the Pony ever

feeling thirsty??

Beans33 · 21/04/2010 10:44

Veggie - I think you're amazing to be doing that trip on your bike - you must be so fit! Well done you! An inspiration indeed. I'm off to see Legally Blond at the theatre tonight with a group of girlie mates. I have to say, it's really not my thing as am not big on fluffy girlie stuff. However, it's such a lovely group of mates that I couldn't really say no! There's one girl going who I cannot stand, but the rest of them are lovely and such great friends, I can't wait to see them all! Hurray! It's at times like these that I love London.

Sybs - I would love to meet up once we're in Streatham. We were considering Dulwich as well, but DH thought it might be a bit far out for his cycle, which I can understand. I'm off to look at one just south of Tooting Bec Common on Friday - looks great - can't wait! Here's a link to a similar property, but the one we're looking at is going to be a lot cheaper - perhaps read, less nice! But unfurnished, which is what we're after. fingers crossed that it's nice!!

OP posts:
Beans33 · 21/04/2010 10:45

Bum, I can't get YouTube at work! Damn and blast, Sybs - gagging to look at those clips.

Ooh, and forgot to say, one we're looking at has 4beds and a garage, so we can put all our hoarded crap extra stuff from the loft into it!

OP posts:
daisydora · 21/04/2010 11:50

Sneaky post from me at work, as I appear to be the only one in the office today

veggie I am so in awe of you cycling all that way with both DS'd - WOW!!

modern forgot to say congrats. I think I missed your news when I was trying to catch up.

I love The Apprentice - I am actually quite obsessed by it. In fact DH and I used to argue over who should get fired...oh great more rows to look forward too

rubs well done on the E-Baying. I have sold a couple of things, and bought odd bits. There are some excellent bargains to be had! I got £150 for our Quinny Buzz travel system, and it was well worn as we used it for both DD and DS.

On the subject of DH, we had a really long talk last night. I so want us to be as happy as we used to be but I realise that perhaps I should make some effort too. Its not all his fault. But he does agree that I need to get out a bit more on my own and have time just for me. So I am out on Friday night to meet some friends for a few drinks. It has quite literally been months since I saw them in the flesh. So I am looking forward to that.

Rubena · 21/04/2010 12:00

Oh Sybil that was priceless - I can't stop loaughing at that youtube clip!!!! The second one is my favourite with the juice boxes. it's going on Facebook! Thanks for the giggle - oh and thanks for the offer of the guard rail! I've just sorted one which I know fits this bed, but if I appreciate the thought.

Love the house Beans - when's the MN BBQ? Actually I was thinking of having one myself this Summer if anyone would be interested but my place isn't the easiest for public transport, however it's very easy in the car?

We've just picked up ds's new bad! It's great - in excellent nick so I'm very happy

Veggie, sounds like db isn't doing very good. he has asked her (his dp) to go and stay with some family for a couple of weeks on the other side of the country but given her the impression he doesn't want it to be over either. I've been able to fill in the gaps a bit and I'm really concerned as he's been having trouble getting to sleep and still necking bottles of wine in an effort to do so. The hospital visit I mentioned earlier sounds a bit sketchy and unknown but I'm trying to piece together parts of that and I'm not sure on so many things surrounding it. I'm worried that no-one is there with him (she left today) but at the same time I know there is nothing really anyone can do besides stay with him to keep an eye on him. he has been prescribed AD's and they haven't kicked in yet but I'm worried he may abuse them. i don't know what to do. Also don't know if it's worth continuing to keep my parents informed or not, as he gets annoyed when I tell them stuff. The last message I got from him was abuse so i haven't talkied to him in a few days but I'm very worried

Beans33 · 21/04/2010 12:03

Well done, Daisy - you definitely do need time to yourself. That's one thing I can't fault DH for (although I can for most other things - ha!) - he positively encourages me to have my own social life, as well as one together where possible. That's great news - make sure you enjoy yourself. It does sound like things might be looking up a bit for you both. No one ever tells you when you're younger what bloody hard work marriage/ long term partnership is! Or maybe they do, but we just ignore them and blithely think we'll be with the love of our lives and life will be sweet!!!

OP posts:
Rubena · 21/04/2010 12:05

x posted Daisy - glad you two had a chat. I'd hate to see things fall apart. getting out will do you both good it sounds. Bum I wish you lived closer.

I wonder about Kayz too. I must admit (sorry kayz if you're lurking) I had to Kayz off FB as I went through and sorted out my account and decided to delete people who never really interacted with me (bit mean I spose) but I want to use it more for photo's in future and wanted to have only the people who bothered keeping in touch on there so with you lot on here who post regularly it was good, but there are so many lurkers etc on my RL FB account who snoop but never ever call - I got jack of it all.

Beans33 · 21/04/2010 12:06

Rubes - sorry, crossposted. Oh gosh, that does sound really distressing. Do you know any of his friends well enough who live nearby to let them know and ask them to keep an eye on him for you? That might take a bit of a weight off your mind if you know someone is in situ. The wine before bed doesn't sound like a good idea, but so hard for you being so far away.

thinking of you.

x

OP posts:
Rubena · 21/04/2010 12:08

I just read that back and it sounded very mean. Let me stress it isn't a personal attack on anyone who I have deleted - it's just that I didn't see the point if we both aren't communicating at all to have people on a FB account that I don't really know. Am I making sense? Or am I digging myself deeper? [hiding under a rock emoticon] Can I ask though if there is anyone on here of our regualr posters group who I have accidently wiped - can you tell me so I can add you?
