oh yes Happy Birthday Ladyt I'll bake you a virtual cake which has the benefit of being calorie-free!
Oh and all you Pregnant Ladies...stop weighing yourselves!

spotofcheerfulness · 16/04/2010 10:13

Woo hoo - I just managed to get DP and his colleague two tickets from Lille today on Eurostar. .

Trace, twas me on the food thing and we do Weetabix too! That's great about the naughty corner, might start using that with T as he threw about 10 wobblers before going to nursery this morning. His keyworker is leaving and she is fantastic so I'm a bit gutted about that.

Must get on with work. Btw, does anyone know how to make a really long link shorted? I did in th'olden days but my IT skills have turned to mush.

Aubergines · 16/04/2010 10:18

Beans, Kiwi, Rubes - I could do the 10th if you meet in the afternoon. Don't worry if you prefer the morning. Also do we need a wet weather back-up as the Wetlands would be very, well, wet...

Veggie - I hope your DH makes it back. Is the train an option? How is your friend's premature DS doing?

Rubes - re milk amounts, DD2 has 120mls of cows milk at bedtime and that is it. She still drinks from a bottle for milk so no beaker tips for you. She has her water from a Tommee Tippee beaker.

Did anyone watch the debate last night? I stuck with it for the full 90 mons but broke the monotony by playing "Shag, Marry, Kill" about the candidates with various colleagues. Think I would marry Cameron for the money (but never consumate), shag Clegg as he is ok to look at and I am afraid poor old Gordo would go off a cliff. As you can see I engaged in some high level
political chat last night...

Can I ask a waayyyyyyy TMI question (may never be able to come to a meet up again). Have any of you ever had a full brazillian? And if so was it excruciatingly painful and excruciatingly embarrassing? Did it take hours? I have only ever been neatened up before and find that bad enough. However DH has asked if I might go the whole hog . I am embarrassed just booking the appt. Would you do it?

SummerLightning · 16/04/2010 10:29

Hi all,
I am so naughty I have the day off on a Thursday and never get chance to post and now I am posting from work!
Hooray to modernlove! That is so exciting. Of course we remember you, I hope you can pop in often. Did your DS sleep badly before you got pg? As my friend has a theory that they "know" and they often start playing up when you initially get pregnant. It did happen to me with my DS but I put it down to conincidence and I think her theory is a load of old bolleaux!!
Rubes I agree wtih you re the antenatal threads. I can't be bothered with conversations about how many babygros/vests/socks to buy and which pushchair!! Though I haven't read it for ages. I don't know how you second timers put up with us when we were pregnant. And I feel a bit mean saying this as obviously now I have tips and stuff I should pass them on but there are plenty of second timers on there being helpful too so I figure I won't bother. Also I think our ante/postnatal thread was particularly busy and friendly and is very long lasting or is that just me?? E.g. the Nov '08 Thread title ("That's not my baby its bottom is too stinky") has been around for YONKS. No way ours would last that long.

Aubs no, sorry no advice on that front, I am a bit lax on the whole ladygarden gardening front and just use a razor to tidy up . TMI from me too. And no I wouldn't do it but I wouldn't fancy waxing down there at all.

spot I think you can use tinyurl?? Just googled it and it is a website you just put in the url I think it comes up with a short version. I have never used it though.

Oh our house now has 2 offers at asking price!! Huzzah. Waiting to see if anyone will offer over! (it was priced to sell with the idea of maybe getting a bit over, just cos that's the way things are going in our area)

Right gotta work. May come back later.

Beans33 · 16/04/2010 10:41

Aubs - I've had a brazilian and it damn near killed me. I hated it! DH of course loved it, but it really really hurt. They do round your bumhole as well and I felt like they'd whisked out some poo with it! TMI TMI TMI! But it was horrific. AND I think I'd rather go through childbirth again than have one! In fact, I am. However, some of my mates swear by them and say they get less painful the more you do them. I will leave them to that opinion.

DD uses Tommee Tippee for milk, I'm afraid. Just decided to give up the bottle herself, so it's been quite an easy transition - hurray! But literally only about 3 weeks ago. I wasn't trying to get her off, just noticed she was playing with the teat and not drinking, so put it in a cup and she necks the lot!

We're off and away this weekend - quite looking forward to it. But first my sister and her 2 kids are coming for today - hurray! Hers are 8 & 10. Can't wait!

PS Hello modernlove - and CONGRATULATIONS! Hurray! x

spotofcheerfulness · 16/04/2010 10:45

Aubs, I once had it done. Never again. Childbirth was less painful. And DP didn't like it either (he's more of a 70s man IYSWIM) so no repeats here. I do get the sides tidied if I'm likely to be wearing a swimsuit so as not to scare the other bathers but otherwise am pretty slack on that front.

Great news on the house sale, Summer, hope you get what you're after . Thanks for the link link.

spotofcheerfulness · 16/04/2010 10:47

x-posts Beans, have a fab time with your sis and then weekend.

SummerLightning · 16/04/2010 10:48

Beans I love your honest answer there!! YIKES!

Oh we still use bottles as well, spot I was glad to see there are others that do! I thought the tooth thing was only bad if they hold it in their mouth for ages not sucking and DS is a milk hoover and it doesn't take him long to neck a bottle of milk. Also he actually LIKES having his teeth brushed, is that not normal?

Beans33 · 16/04/2010 11:09

Thank you! SHall log off now! HAve a smashing weekend - will try to pop on later, but if not hope all is well.

happy birthday ladyt!

x

Oh, and Aubs, I'm a bit but if I were engaging in your top level political debate I would have to shag GB as the other two look like they'd just want to be spanked and call you 'nanny'.

Rubena · 16/04/2010 11:41

Ah Beans - you can always be relied upon to give the TMI answer! Love it -
Can't help with the Brazillian though as I'm a shaver - I can't STAND the wait in between while it turns into Sherwood waiting for enough growth to wax again - therefore have only ever had the legs and armpits done. I didn't think that hurt too much, bnut I'd imagine in the lady parts wouldn't be much of a treat! Tell you what DOES hurt - threading on your upper lip (on the face I mean - I had that as an optional extra during a normal eyebrow thread and there were tears streaming down! I didn't even need it!!

DH has just said Heathrow not doing any flights until 7pm - i've not heard anything so going in as normal

Aubi yes! Can do afternoon and I agree re the back up plan with this dodgy British weather

Thanks for Beaker / Milk advice everyone. I'm going to try and get one of those Veggie type ones and see how he goes but he really needs to be cut back I think anyway.

Oh and WG - sorry to hear. i second the Clomid suggestion - no experience with it myself, however I've heard it does wonders for those in your exact situation - although you could end up with twins

Aubergines · 16/04/2010 13:40

Sorry Modernlove, I forgot to welcome you back earlier. Its so nice when old faces return (I was another vegetable on the AN thread, same initial). Congratulations on your second pregnancy but sorry to hear that sleep hasn't come easily for your DS.

And WG I am sorry to hear about your mammoth cycles. I think Spot is probably right that Clomid would be a wide thing to investigate. However, if you want to embrace the woo before going down the orthodox medicine route then look us a herbal supplement called something like Agnus Castus. I was given in when I had PCOS (or a least when I was symptomatic), I also had acupuncture, and my cycles did shorten.

Can I copy Lady T in celebrating good things our DCs so? This morning I took both DDs to Westfield shopping centre as I had to go to the Apple Store. I never take them to cafes and restaurants because DD2 hates highchairs but she was on such good form this morning that I decided to risk it and the three of us sat down for an Italian. DD2 was a delight. She shared a mushroom risotto with her sister and didn't complain about her highchair for over 30 mins. She smiled, chatted and fed herself with gusto and although she made a bit of a mess she was otherwise perfect. Obviously I was feeling good about it but what topped my happiness was that the lady at the table next to me, who was lunching with her teenage son, came over to tell me what gorgeous girls I had and how delightful they had been all lunchtime. It was such a lovely thing for her to do. To be honest it would not occur to me to compliment a strangers' children but I will in future as it totally made my day and I would like to share the joy.

Aubergines · 16/04/2010 13:49

Hmmm. Clomid would be a wise thing, not a wide thing. I hate my iPhone's keypad and would like to apologise for all my posts and all my typos as I know I am much worse than anyone else at proofing.

KiwiPanda · 16/04/2010 14:42

Aubs I have that problem with iPhone posting!

Afternoon of the 10th is good with me. If it is pouring, you are all most welcome to come to mine (It's about 15/20 minutes walk from Wetland Centre). Maybe some of the little ones can actually PLAY with DD's toys since she seems to have abandoned interest in any of them! Anyone else find that? I'm not buying her any new toys for about 3 years

Also, can I ask, does anyone elses DD/DS show absolutely no interest in soft toys? I was terribly fond of them as a child, and sort of soppily hoped DD would have a favourite but no, they just get hurled accross the room with disgust if I offer one. Those with older DCs, is this something that can come later or am I just raising a stony-hearted little Madam??

spotofcheerfulness · 16/04/2010 14:57

Thank you to everyone who sent in boys shoes suggestions last week, I got an A for that assignment!

Kiwi, I realise your own experience totally contradicts what I'm about to say (as a good journo I don't like facts to get in the way of a good theory ) but from anecdotal experience boys tend to be more into cuddly toys younger than girls, or maybe more into them full stop?

SummerLightning · 16/04/2010 15:01

I don't post on my iphone either Aubs, I find it too slow and annoying. Don't worry about the typos though, we know what you are on about.

Kiwi no interest in soft toys here either. Probably a good thing from my point of view, I STILL have a soft toy that I like having in bed that I have had from birth . Very embarrassing and would be even more embarrassing if I'd been a boy.

My DS is cute cute cute at the moment too. We had a lovely time swimming yesterday. I realised I quite like swimming as i don't have the option of putting DS down and half ignoring him meaning that it's quite intensive play together and he was being very cute. I had my first proper pregnancy dozy moment afterwards (well actually probalby not first actually but can't remember any other big ones) as i got him dressed and was about to leave and thought "Oh i'll throw away his swim nappy" and then couldn't find it. I had put all his clothes on over his wet swim nappy! Poor little man.

spotofcheerfulness · 16/04/2010 15:03

Ok, Kiwi I think you should forget my theory, it is clearly UNTRUE!

Veggiemummy · 16/04/2010 15:15

Haven't caught up fully but I've had a few Brazilians, do you mean that or a Hollywood. Brazilian is almost all off with a strip of hair down the middle (though this seems to depend on the 'artists' interpretation I once had a bunch of hair left that made my lady garden look like Adolf's tash). A Hollywood is completely off, so nudey lady. It doesn't hurt but then I don't find any waxing painful. It takes a while and you can reduce the time by... erm trimming before you go in. If your embarrased about asking for one go for a place that had it on their menu, so you know they def do them and are fine about it. Aveda in Holborn does them
quite well. A word of warning you will be expected to help, this involves stretching you skin, and they will need you to position your legs appropriately. Don't worry though let them know it's you first time. It might be worth asking to get an experienced beautician when you book, I've had people who obviously don't do them often and were themselves a bit embarrased it made me feel a bit embarrased too even though I'm not that bothered by that sort of thing. My Aveda lady was great I had my period for one and couldn't cancel because it was for my wedding, she was brilliant and made it real non issue (I had a tampon)

KiwiPanda · 16/04/2010 15:21

Summer Err, I have two . Both pandas, who have put up stoically with a considerable amount of abuse from DD. I think she's jealous .

SummerLightning · 16/04/2010 15:22

hehe spot sorry I xposted somewhat disproving your theory there! still might be true in general though...but just to disprove it some more my friends daughter of the same age loves cuddly toys....she has a bunny which she LOVES and won't leave alone and it is really quite manky already!

SummerLightning · 16/04/2010 15:24

Mine's a panda too!!! It's goes by the name of "Pandy". I remember trying to rename it "Steve" when I was about 4 but it never stuck!

It doesn't look like a panda any more though. It has two legs and one arm left and that is it (no nose, eyes ,ears, etc)

SummerLightning · 16/04/2010 15:25

Are they from new zealand?

KiwiPanda · 16/04/2010 15:32

No, though one of them is a very posh panda from Harrods. Well, he was posh then. Now he is grey and white and very skinny due to having the stuffing thoroughly loved out of him.

spotofcheerfulness · 16/04/2010 15:32

Summer, T has started answering to "Steve". He really likes the name and smiles whenever you say it.
