sad sad on all the job news, Poppy and Cyteen - it is miserable having to live with all this uncertainty.

I've been acquiring clothes today in a poor girl's fashion. First I found this jacket for €3.50 in a charity shop.

Then my sister lent me a Karen Millen dress and a stole freaky dead cat thing for a wedding in Killarney at the beginning of May.

I got to see two of my lovely nephews into the bargain. DN1 was giving me imaginary cups of tea and when I pretended they were too hot he laughed so much he fell over. It never gets that big a laugh in my own house. Prophet in her own land and all that ...

How much gin have you had Sazzles?

RedLentil · 31/03/2010 21:45

VG - did you hear Tom Dunne playing the Muppets theme tune this morning?('Nama, Nama, doo doobedoodoo)

Oh I wish I were you and could do intelligent things with the mortgage grimness.

Redser I didn't hear that today but I have heard it before! ds1 entered Tom Dunne's comp to be Leinster's mascot in the quarter finals but didn't get picked. Nice work on the clothes front! Esp that jacket, will soooo suit you & can be jeansy or worky.

Buckets, will send squids.

Can I ask for a quick bit of advice.

If your minder was at ten in the morning watching tv (Richard and Judy or whatever the equivalent is) and your child was standing in a corner not really doing anything though not bawling his eyes out would you be ok with this REGARDLESS of whether you ignore your own children while you pick your teeth / go on MN / down gins?

GreenGardenia · 31/03/2010 22:10

I know you are all going to say chillax it's fine.

I am going to ignore you all.

I have specifically asked her to do stuff with ds2. Overall she is nice, gentle, kind.

She did not realise there was someone in the house.

GreenGardenia · 31/03/2010 22:15

I don't watch tv with ds2 around. I don't let him watch it either. DS1 of course watches loads and has it on with ds2 around but he's not on duty.

Naturally if I had found her at the drinks cabinet I would have been far more understanding

GreenGardenia · 31/03/2010 22:16

How could you have run out of energy / ideas / spirit by ten am???

I think there's a difference though between putting on In the Night Garden or whatever is designed for that age group - doing something FOR the child, even if it's not what I would choose - and settling down with Jeremy Kyle for oneself.

Sigh & sulk.

GreenGardenia · 31/03/2010 22:20

Arf no need for snurks tis a fairly accurate picture you paint

GreenGardenia · 31/03/2010 22:20

Under the bed with my cc tv monitor of course.

RedLentil · 31/03/2010 22:23

GG - I would be unhappy too. I think you are well within your rights to say that you don't want the TV on during the day.

oh dear no - thats not on. Are you going to have a chat and make sure that there is no misunderstanding regards to you not wishing E to have TV?

could you ask her to provide a note regards what they've been doing during the day?

TBH I was more thinking of finding someone else.

Too extreme?

I am paying her over the odds and she's barely in a wet week.

dizzydixies · 31/03/2010 22:29

I think its important to either have a hand over or a note if there isn't time - maybe a note will encourage her to fill the space more productively

I would suggest that you leave activities for him to complete however I strongly feel that this is part of her job and she should be able to interact/entertain E

for crying out loud how hard is it to show him the park/ducks/buses or let him paint with potatoes?!

poppysocks · 31/03/2010 22:30

Another one who'd have a problem with it GG - is this good or bad that we all agree with you?? One of the things I like about nursery is that it is structured and there's no TV etc. Gives me free licence to provide a contrast on their days at home .

I am also a great R5 fan lwfh but odd dreams involving football/horse-racing/snooker turn my nightime radio listening odd dreams into nightmares. .

GreenGardenia · 31/03/2010 22:31

If she had been offering him tv I'd be less cross - easy to say, no tv allowed.

It was the idea that she had settled down for a break and ds2 was being ignored.

Oh dear I am going to be angry for bed now.
