I'm the same as you pav. I don't want to rush anything this time around. I keep feeling sad about my baby growing so fast and DS1 going to big school this year (we hope) I can see the summer bringing lots of emotions to the forefront. Went to baby clinic today. HV asked if I'm weaning him yet, and looked surprised when I said 'no'. It was more of a 'good for you' type of look. He isn't 6 months for another 3 weeks, so I'm counting the days now. I didn't mention my BLW intentions as I don't think it went down very well when I mentioned it to the last HV. So I'm saying nowt to the HV's about food and milk feeds etc. I still need to finish the BLW book - I get so tired when I read.

skorpion that looks good. Thank you for the tip

Fruitpastels · 29/03/2010 16:05

I shouldn't be sitting here.. I have loads to do. The house is being valued tomorrow night and I should be doing some housework in preparation!

scarlotti · 29/03/2010 16:26

Another one not wanting to rush things here too, am sure it's last baby syndrome!!
Fruit thought our boys were the same age?? Ioan is 5 months in 2 weeks ... I've probably got it wrong that they're the same age though.

Think I'll be doing BLW ... only as I keep forgetting to give purees and the laziness of BLW is very appealing! Ioan is quite interested in us eating and sits at the table with us at each mealtime, but hasn't picked up any of the food I've put in front of him yet. Going to wait a few weeks now and then see what happens.

I've got a job so have to leave my baby it's 3 days a week and probably will start after the Easter hols so around 19th April. BLW book says that you can start with breakfast/tea and leave lunch until later so think that's what I'll do for the first while. Will be able to take the WFH job now too so am hoping having more time to be near/at home will help with BLW and carrying on bf.
I probably won't express at work, only because I'd like to have time for lunch and a coffee rather than pumping. I do only live 10 mins from the office though so I might be able to pop back if need be. Once the freezer drawer is empty, I'll probably use formula in the day and then bf morning and night when I'm home. On my days off I'll try to ebf and just see how it goes.

Good points re moving into own rooms, think I'm going to have to think about that more now I'll need sleep for working. That will probably mean dh will move back up from the spare room ... and I'll have to share my bed again am enjoying the space!!

DontWorryBaby · 29/03/2010 16:30

pav I read today online that doubling their birth weight is a sign they're ready. Wouldn't rely on that though, ethan was double his birth weight 3 weeks ago!

Your DH is doing well. I'd heard it was better not to plan your last cig as then you'd relish it and look back with fond memories while trying to quit so it's a good sign that he didn't enjoy that last smoke on Saturday. You can tell him he has the support of your forum friends!!

fruit I know what you mean about the HV's response to BLW. I've had a similar reaction to using real nappies!

Fruitpastels · 29/03/2010 16:40

scarlotti I never know what to go with, weeks or months Halloween baby, so we are 21 weeks here (5 months on saturday), so my calculations are slightly out. We have 4 weeks to go for BLW Good news on the job I should know by weds if I'm back to work in May or Sept.

Fruitpastels · 29/03/2010 16:44

I think last baby syndrome does exsist. I'm in self denial

Fruitpastels · 29/03/2010 16:46

Exist even!!

hobnob57 · 29/03/2010 16:55

18 weeks here and so not ready to think about weaning...bf is far too convenient.

Isla is on her gym just now and doing her new trick of making noises like she's struggling for air - like gasping it in. I wonder if this is the cause of all her wind of late? Or a reflux thing since she used to do it as a newborn too? We used to laugh as she sounded like a goose honking.

We just tried to meet up with 2 friends from DD1's antenatal group at the park, each of whom have 2 kids but their DD2s are 1 and 2. It was a total failure - I didn't get to speak to either of them. DD1 wanted to play on everything else apart from what her friends were on, Isla was awake and not up for lying in the pram so needed carried, DD1 then desperately needed the loo and by the time I got her behind a bush she just let go standing up all over her pulled down pants and jeans so we needed to change into the 2yo's spare kit, by which stage the 1yo had lost the plot and needed a nap, Isla needed fed and one of the 3yos was having a strop. I've come home and put dd1 down for a nap and and trying to empty my head!

scarlotti · 29/03/2010 18:13

Fruit Nov 8th baby here so we are a bit behind you. 20 wks yesterday by my calculations so theoretically another 6 weeks to go, but I think he'll end up trying something before then. Am just trying to relax about it all in the hope that the work thing won't mess up plans. Am sure him going to the childminder will upset his routine initially so no point in me setting something in stone now!

hobnob shame about your day, happens here too when we meet up with dc's in tow!

Trikken · 29/03/2010 20:15

Mine is only 19 weeks and 2 days but I tried her with some food today and she was gobbling it down, grabbing with her hands and everything. I think she is ready but we are going to go slowly with it.

DontWorryBaby · 29/03/2010 20:32

hobnob Ethan does that too! Taking a big gasp of air in & making a noise at the same time? Sounds like melanie from neighbours' laugh circa 1990?? No idea what it is but now I think about it, he is definitely doing it less. Your afternoon sounds insane!

scarlotti · 29/03/2010 20:49

Trikken what did you feed her? And where do you sit her, on your lap or in the highchair? I'd love it if he started early and I could get into the swing of it before I go back to work.

PavlovtheCat · 29/03/2010 21:03

scarlotti I thought you were already weaning Ioan? Or am i making that up? .

I said Reuben was showing an interest in food, well this evening at dinner time, he was avidly staring at Bella eating her food, leaning slightly forward, wide eyes and tongue lolling out, he was licking his lips! Oh he looked so lovely and cute and wanting to eat, i could not help but put the tiniest bit of mash on his lips! naughty i know, but it was from DDs plate so not tainted with salt or anything. He licked his lips and sort of did not know what to make of it, then he grinned, and continued to lick his lips and do this funny sticking out of his tongue DH told me off as Bella then kept saying 'mama can he have a pea? can you give him a pea? or some of my mash, can i give him some? oh dear!

So, i think he is probably more ready to wean than we thought, but still, we are not doing it yet. It is hard enough cleaning the kitchen after DD

Trikken · 29/03/2010 21:08

ok so was really a bad mummy and didnt puree as I promised myself I would and bought a couple of jars of baby food. (4-6 month recommended ones) Cant remember what flavour it was tho. I only gave her a little bit to see what she would do with it but was suprised at how positive she seemed about it. she has had banana before as well.

Trikken · 29/03/2010 21:09

oh and sat her in the highchair but think next time will have her on my lap as it wouldnt tighten enough and she kept sliding down.

SirBoobAlot · 29/03/2010 21:29

waves to everyone Hope you're all okay.

We're on week two of weaning here, and I'm sure I did the right thing (kinda). He's 19 weeks (well I thought he was and then I saw Scarlotti's calculations and am now not sure!) on Wednesday. He enjoys eating the food so... Also I was planning on weaning at five months anyway as the jump between purées at six months and expected to be on finger foods eight weeks later seemed a bit to me. And he's nearly five months. I know he's not the biggest baby on here, but he has always been a hungry (and greedy!) little thing, so I wasn't optimistic about making it to six months right from the off.

PavlovtheCat · 29/03/2010 21:37

SWB* doubling birthweight and weaning - in that case he is probably just about right weight wise. He was over 13lb when we weighed him last, so I am expecting he will be over 15lb now, and double his birth weight is 15lb. But still, i am hanging on! He looks too small to be eating real food!

sirboob you got to do what is best for your baby, and you and your little boy was keen wasn't he? .

weston · 29/03/2010 22:05

well treked off to doctors..again...to be told..again...that she is fine...going to (a) sue the hv and (b) burn the red book!!

on packing mission again..i soo hate packing..can't see how a 9pm christening is going to work with 2 under 3's who need to be in bed by 6:30pm but what's the worse that could happen......

SirBoobAlot · 29/03/2010 22:14

Weston snort can I join in the book burning? And a 9pm Christening? Best of luck!

OP posts:
Trikken · 29/03/2010 22:18

sirboob Bryn must be 19 weeks as he is older than Annabelle, and she was 19 weeks on Saturday.

scarlotti · 29/03/2010 22:23

Pav I had started weaning and made lots of purees. Fed him for about a week or 10 days but it didn't feel right tbh. He enjoyed it but he also then started to seem more sicky. So we stopped for a week or so. Started again and stocked up the freezer, but I've only used about 2 pots as I keep forgetting and am not in the habit. I really like the sound of the BLW though so think I might do that instead. Ioan tries to grab the spoon every time I feed him so I think he'll be up for doing it himself.
Going to go buy some lino like I did for DS1 and put it under his bit of the table!

SirBoob Bryn should be 20 wks on Weds (31st) if my calcs are right!

weston sounds like a lunchtime sleep is in order for your dc's if they'll drop off.
We have a wedding on Thursday and I'm wondering how long my lot will last. Am staying in the hotel so worst case we can put them to bed and check periodically use the monitor. To bo honest, I don't think I'll make it to 1am anyway!! Wedding starts at 4pm and it's free wine, so unless I pace myself I'll collapse at around 8:30

Bought the ds' lovely outfits for the wedding today and am going to use them at the christening too - let's face it, the gown out of the wedding dress is a lovely idea but it's never going to happen!! So Ioan will now be in a shirt, tie and waistcoat little suit I figure if I can reuse for the christening and then maybe a party or two it will be worth it. Only cost £25 too for the whole thing.

SirBoobAlot · 29/03/2010 22:28

Ah balls... Lucky I'm not a maths teacher Glad you lot can count!

Scarlotti aww at the little suit!! Bless him!

pav hearing what you did for dd weaning is really helpful. In fact, being a later baby on this thread is really helpful generally! I'm sure I've said that before...

Anyway, weaning seems years away for me as Rosa is almost 17 weeks. I think. well, definitely 4mths next week, although she definitely is interested in food while we're eating and is very good at sitting up as well as being able to grab and hold things increasingly well. Exciting! But I would like to stick to the ease of bfing for a good bit longer, although I'm sure she'd love a wee taste of banana! I assume the h*lth vstr will tell me not to do anything til 6mths?

raggie · 29/03/2010 22:52

Oh, also meant to say - good news on the job scarlotti! DWB what is your job if you don't mind me asking? I keep wondering if going back PT is the right thing. I think it is. And I think we can afford it... What's everyone else's experiences, those of you who have more than one DC?

My previous school was SO full on that working FT would be impossible to do with a little one. But maybe different in other schools? Maybe if I can find a temporary position of either FT or PT to see how things go, that would be good. Sorry, thinking aloud now. And far too late to be pondering these things. Good night everyone!

PavlovtheCat · 29/03/2010 22:58

scarlotti yey! for the job, i didn't post that earlier, sorry. You must be relieved/pleased. What will you be doing?
