Pavlov thanks

You'd think sausage pittas would be a big hit. They were with DS1 but DS2 is sitting there, at the table, contemplating the pattern in his placemat. Sigh.

Laugs · 26/03/2010 18:36

Not me Pav, unless you count Surbiton as exotic? DH is going alone to a child-free wedding and I thought I better at least get a weekend away out of it, so am going to see DB and SIL.

DS2 your mummy told me if you eat your tea you can have an ice cream for pudding [runs and hides]

BeckyBendyLegs · 26/03/2010 18:43

I am totally laughing out loud now Laugs! That would work on DS2 as he has a huge sweet tooth! I don't know why he doesn't like his sausage pittas - it's not like I'm making him eat over-cooked cabbage like my mum did me.

Laugs · 26/03/2010 18:45

Yeah sausage pitta sounds yum!

SirBoobAlot · 26/03/2010 18:46

Over cooked cabbage... Belugh.

OP posts:
BeckyBendyLegs · 26/03/2010 18:55

I was made to sit at the table all afternoon once in front of a plate of over-cooked cabbage! Laugs I'll send you one (sausage pitta)!

Laugs · 26/03/2010 19:03

Yes, tell DS2 the nice lady on the internet would like his sausage pitta, please

SirBoobAlot · 26/03/2010 19:05

Bryn. Will. Not. Sleep. Or feed, for that matter. And will only stop crying if someone else is dealing with him today. And everyone else has gone out. sighs Going to be a long night.

Evening all

Sorry to hear some of you are having a rubbish time at the mo.

hobnob I hope the new formula works for Isla. Poor little 'un.

sirboob sorry the situation has been made even worse for your DP.

scarlotti hope Ioan feels better after his jabs. The third lot made Isaac very upset for a few days.

BBL I coul really eat a sausage pitta. Sounds lovely!

DH took Isaac to see his grandma in Kent this morning. It's the first time he's been taken elsewhere without me and I was a bit at first but went and had my hair cut and met a friend for lunch, which was lovely. Isaac had been grabbing on and really pulling my hair so I've had it cut really short and it looks so much better. Nice to be pampered for a change.

BLW is going well. Isaac's eaten toast, sticks of melon, ricecakes, broccoli, sugarsnap peas, carrot..... He's started to get really over excited whenever he sees food. He went crazy watching me eat a hot cross bun this morning. My worry now is that BLW won't satisfy him quick enough as it seems to have awoken a massive surge in appetite.

He'll be 6 months old on Weds. I can't believe how quickly time has gone.

wook · 26/03/2010 20:00

BBL we have a cat poo issue here too- she goes all over the garden- thought cats were not suppose dto poo in their own gardens! A very timid rescue cat, she's always had loo issues- when we put a scarer in the garden she protested by coming and pooing in the house. My friend suggested a plug in pheromone thing to make the cats feel happier. She got it for us from the cats protection league. Anyway, it hasn't stopped the little presents in the garden, but it may work on your cat? I just think it's so yucky when thinking about weaning, crawling etc... If you find an answer will you please please let us know!

helips · 26/03/2010 20:06

bbl when I was a child if my mum served up something I didn't like I would fall asleep at the table so I didn't have to eat it! Worked like a charm, not that I'm trying to give your ds any ideas or anything

sirboob Sorry to hear about dp's dads death cert, just what you all need, NOT! Hope you manage to get Bryn settled and have a nice relaxing evening, sounds like you could do with it.

Am off to Singapore tomorrow, 12 hour flight with two children, woo hoo! Oh, and got Millie weighed this week, haven't done it for 2 months and she only weighs 13lb 8oz. She has dipped slightly under the 25th percentile and the hv was asking about her feeding and stuff. The thing is, she is really alert and feeds well and has chunky thighs, I assumed she was growing well which is why I never bothered weighing her before. Now when strangers say to me 'isn't she small' I feel worried. Anyone else's little ones tiddlers?

Have a nice weekend everyone, I'll try to get on before I go but if not I hope you all have a great week with lot's of sleep!

helips · 26/03/2010 20:08

Cross posts lemontop, glad the weaning is going well, can someone tell me the name of the blw book so I can give it a go...

BeckyBendyLegs · 26/03/2010 20:36

Helips have a good trip. I hope it helps you make up your mind about your family's future and what you'd like to do. I lived in Japan for two years and I LOVED it but I was on my own then, no children, etc. My boss lived in Singapore for a few years and she loved it (again before children came along).

Lemontop your break sounds lovely! And BLW! Wow. We've just started on apple and sweet potato.

Tamlin · 26/03/2010 21:50

We still haven't started with solids, but apart from the odd grab at my coffee mug, he doesn't seem very interested. When I give him Calpol he still has the tongue-thrust reflex, so I'll wait until that goes.

I'm frightened of jinxing myself here, but for the last two nights, he's only woken ONCE. This is such a huge, welcome change! Now, if only I can shake this stupid cold so I can sleep properly too...

misssese · 26/03/2010 22:13

helips What is Millie's D.O.B? Pearl is 13lbs4oz she was born on the 18th.
The book is called Baby-led Weaning by Gill Rapley & Tracey Murkett. I am really enjoying it but its very "YOU MUST BREASTFEED AND YOU MUST BABY LED WEAN YOUR CHILD" I know this has put quite a few people off.

TOK · 26/03/2010 23:30

I agree misssese, it did kind of put me off. I was reading it thinking, well I'm not breastfeeding, so am I not allowed to BLW? or Will it not work because I am formula feeding? Think I will just do what we did with ds and get mashing!

Anya has been asleep since 7, which is fine, but she hasn't fed since 5 o clock , so the little burger is going a HUGE stretch between feeds but at the wrong ruddy time why can't she do this stretch after the 11.30pm feed (which will be a dream feed)? But no, she then returns to waaking every 3 hours.

Have a lovely time helips, I hope it makes your decision a bit easier and good luck with the flight!

Sirboob how horrible in an already awful ordeal for you all.

Venus how about rolling up a couple of blankets and butting them underneath the sheet on either side of the cot? You may need to buy a slightly bigger sheet. In saying that, I used a bumper with ds too and tucked it right down behind the matress.

Right off to dream feed and then see what the night brings. Hope you all get a good stretch of sleep tonight ladies!

TOK · 26/03/2010 23:31

putting, not butting

ursigurke · 27/03/2010 00:26

it is midnight and since 9 Paula woke up about every 30min. I really thought it couldn't get worse. I don't want to sleep anymore and just be awake for the whole night but it is not possible as there is no one who could take over tomorrow morning. I know I need to get some sleep.
Sorry for not commenting on anybody's post. I'm just too down. In fact that's the second time already that I'm crying today, well not today but in the last 24 hours. This afternoon she woke up in the pram after 35min as usual and cried/screamed until we were home. I couldn't take her out and carry her what I usually end up doing because it was raining heavily. again, i do not know what to do. I can't get anything done in 35 min. The distances in London are just too big.
I really can't understand why she can not sleep. She is such a happy child and develops so well.

ursigurke · 27/03/2010 06:21

update: second half of the night was much better, there was at least one 2 hours gap (or was it even three?)
Night is over though since 5.30. Early but I am just happy that this night is over.
There was lots of farting now (maybe that caused troubles this night?) but she seemed to be tired enough for another sleep cycle so I fed her and let her lie on my chest. But suddenly she was full of energy and jumped around, so I got a lovely massage. Now she is lying next to me, counting her toes and doing some voice exercise.

Once again, I have to apologise for my moaning. I do know that there are mums and babies with real problems, like poor Toby or Isla. It's just hard to focus in the middle of the night

We are having a breakfast date with a friend but I guess, I'll need a prebreakfast now

Anyway, weekend is here, I hope it will be a good one for all of you and your families.
Only 28 hours until DH comes home and I can hand over Paula and go back to bed

helips, good luck with the flight. I'm actually hoping you will love it and go for the short term adventure! Please keep us updated.

scarlotti · 27/03/2010 07:42

ursi sorry to hear you had a rough night, moan away, things always seem ruddy awful in the small hours.

helips good luck with the Singapore trip. It will be exciting and there's no reason why life should stop being an aventure when the kids come along.

cabbage?!?!?

TOK it's the 11pm dream feed that seems to be reducing here too, and now the 3am and 6am feeds are long ones. Sigh. Think he's too distracted in the day to concentrate.

On the mush here but waiting for the last bit of the high chair to turn up then will try finger foods too as everything is now going in his mouth. Who knows what will happen! (some more sleep maybe...?!)

Running the church cafe this morning so off now to get ready then cook heaps of fry ups!

PavlovtheCat · 27/03/2010 08:11

Oh ursi you poor thing, don't apologise for moaning. I felt just like you did a couple of weeks ago, i did not want to go to sleep as I knew as soon as my head hit the pillow Reuben would be awake. I was up at 2:30am, showered and dressed, make-up on, kitchen and bathroom cleaned by 4am and DD, DS and I were in a cafe by 7:15am! I felt tired in the day, but surprisingly fine! You know that hung over tired feeling, where by the evening you need an early night, sort of in a bubble but not about to fall over tired? Like that. I would not necessarily recommend it but it can sometimes feel like the only option.

Reuben also has terrible farts/stuck wind which wakes him. Not anything like Paula, but he does squeal from time to time. Could it be anything you are eating? I am wondering whether his farting is linked in with his cough/cold business as they really do stink.

lemontop well done on the BLW, it is so much fun!!! I did a bit of both with DD, she has some blended food, which we quickly moved on to mashed, and some whole bits of food. I know there is a bit of a ? about eggs, but we gave DD scrambled eggs, in quite large pieces. It was great as she could eat a lot of it, it is quite highly calorific and she loved it. Also gave her avocado and banana in chunks which are also both high in calories. All of these are really easy to eat. And you can spread low salt stuff on to toast.

helips oh have a great time in Singapore. I hope it proves to be somewhere where you feel you could live for 2 years.

I had a 'playdate' on thursday. It was quite daunting. It was someone from DDs nursery, who has an 8mth old baby too. DD loves her little girl and they had so much fun while we drank coffee and ate biscuits! I did not know the woman, DD has been asking for her friend to visit for a long time so i bit the bullet and invited them over. Only to feel quite out of my depth, as both her and her DH are lawyers, and he is a partner in his firm ! However, she is a really down to earth woman, so i don't think my little flat and half finished DIY jobs and filthy back garden bothered her too much. I make cupcakes though, which went down a treat!

BeckyBendyLegs · 27/03/2010 08:34

Ursi big hug to you. Bad nights are hard, very hard. This too shall pass. Repeat after me. We had a bad night. Every night is bad with Toby (not as bad as yours of recent though). He just doesn't sleep well. Sigh. Do I accept this and go with the flow? The other two slept really well from just a few weeks. Sooo tired today.

Ah well, it's the weekend, it's another day. Let's play some feel-good music really loudly! That's my advice for anyone feeling low and tired.

wook · 27/03/2010 09:33

Ursi poor you, don't apologise for moaning, half hourly waking sounds absolutely horrendous!! Also I can just picture you in the rain with a crying Paula in the pram. It is so awful when they cry in the pram and you just have to get home. Hope you have a good weekend.

ursigurke · 27/03/2010 11:29

Thanks for all your sympathies!
I'm feeling better now. We have already met a working friend for breakfast and the nap timing was quite good. Paula slept on the way back and home.
Pav, I suppose this night might have been particularly bad because of wind but I do not really know what caused the problem. In fact, she had done a nice big poo in the evening so I expected it to be a calm night.
Funnily enough she does seem to have digestive problems after night feeds, never during the day though. So I am not sure.
I think the main problem is that she wakes easily up after a sleep cycle. So if I could solve the problem during the day that she can go for a second one, it might mean a huge nightly improvement too. I read that in the No Cry book and it sounds very reasonable. Maybe I should try again. I just feel like it is not worth doing it now as we will leave for Austria on monday and then she will be confused anyway. Anyway, angry Paula wants to play.

SirBoobAlot · 27/03/2010 16:57

Ursi sorry about the bad night. I hope this one is amazing to make up for it!
