Fantastic news Spider, congratulations!

Well done Amber for your three pounds. Thats a lot! I'm trying to lose a couple of pounds while dh is away on his latest business trip. I will probably just snack and put weight on though!

Waves to everyone else...

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 15/03/2010 17:55

Cngratulations Spider! Great news.

Well done on the 3lbs Amber!

House chat all very positive. Need to get our house valued and speak to a mortgage broker before we commit to proceeding. Trying not to get too excited just in case though... We're such a marketing man's dream though - we were completely sold at double oven and integrated dishwasher

SpiderWilliam · 15/03/2010 18:18

Deb just listened to your phone message. Lovely of you to call. Will see if I can find your number later on. LOL at signing off the message with "It's DebinAustria by the way"

abdnhiker · 15/03/2010 19:40

congrats spider that's lovely news.

Amber good job! I'm starting to put on weight now that Fraser wants to walk instead of be pushed on long walks so extra stars for you...

all good here, we're rather busy with me finally ready to start work 1 day a week. I think I've found the best nanny ever to start at the end of May, and DH and the next door neighbour will cover between now and then so I'm feeling positive about the whole thing. (Ignoring the fact that I'm not so sure about the job...). We know the nanny through the church, she's just graduated from university, has experience at a nursery, and is taking a year off before reapplying to teachers college as she didn't have enough experience in a school - so working part time for me will suit her well. Plus the fact that she's local and knows other church mums should mean that it's easy for her to socialize with the boys too...

oh, and Fraser's just started liking books about two weeks ago.... mainly ones about tractors honestly, although the gruffalo is a favourite.

abdnhiker · 15/03/2010 19:41

p.s. sybil the house sounds great, congrats.

abdnhiker · 15/03/2010 19:42

poppy if you're lurking - did you use nannytax for your nanny? and recommendations? I offered £12 an hour which seems pretty standard for outside of central London I hope...

DebInAustria · 15/03/2010 20:50

Lol Spider, I thought what if they know another Deb and are confused, I meant to say Deb from Austria but I was in Mumsnet mode obviously. Glad to hear you're feeling yuk

Amber - well done on losing 3lbs, that's really good.

Abdn - sounds really great, the job and Nanny etc..

Goddess - or should I say marketing man's dream? That made me laugh!

EssieAmma · 15/03/2010 22:16

I'm here but tired. Week 4 with no DH (he's back on weekends), and it's getting a bit boring now. But at least I'm done with the teaching till after Easter.

I've got a new kitchen! It's obv not all new, just new doors and a new unit, but it looks all new! And it's lovely!

DebInAustria · 16/03/2010 06:57

photos on FB Essie ?

abdnhiker · 16/03/2010 08:37

new doors and a new unit will totally change the look though... yeah!

PenguinNZ · 16/03/2010 08:48

Lurking....had to pop in to congratulate Spider though! Great news. Delighted to hear that you're now feeling bloody awful - ie: pregnant. ;0)

Waves to everyone else.

MN frequently close the site for maintainence in the middle of the night which is the middle of the day for me. I try and pop on whilst his lordship is having a nap and nothing but a "come back later" msg to great me. It's beginning to p me off. Grrrr.

Opps. someone calling on skpe!

Upsidedowncake · 16/03/2010 14:08

HI everyone

Spider, very good news. I had a bit of discharge with Christian but if you're really worried, you could pop into your local early pregancy unit for a scan. It's a stressful procedure and there would be lots of waiting as you wouldn't be considered an urgent case, so it's not ideal if you're not really worried.

I had an ectopic in between C and D so am a veteran of St George's Tooting EPU. But after that, they were happy to scan me to check Dorothy wasn't ectopic (at 5 weeks) - and to check her again a week later because they couldn't find a heartbeat first time round.

Congratulations Amber on the three pounds. That's a lot. Sybil, Amber, I'm trying to lose a bit of weight too as got on scales and found I was 11 stone 9!!!!

LOL Debs signing off a phonecall DebsinAustria. Tnanks for the namecheck too!

Abdn, well done finding a nanny. Glad that you're taking the next step with the job.

Essie, lovely to have a new kitchen. Is your mum around at the moment to keep you company. Are you coming up to London soon?

EssieAmma · 16/03/2010 14:26

Hi UDC, good to hear from you!

Photos of the kitchen will be appearing on facebook later this evening (I'm at work at the mo but it's so beautiful I'm considering bunking off quite soon.) It's not quite finished - I need a new trim on some of the cupboards, and a new plinth (!! it's that bottom bit between the bottom of your cupboards and your floor, but don't you think it sounds like a massive Grecian structural column?) I treated myself to a new kettle and toaster as well, to match!

My mum is around, but I won't be seeing her tonight. Luckily I had lunch with two of my friends and colleagues here (what am I saying? My only colleagues who I would count as friends!! ) so I've seen adult humans. I don't always! Perhaps I should do loads of exercise instead - I'm carrying a few pounds I shouldn't be, but I stopped doing my exercise DVDs in order to do knitting. Knitting makes you fat!

Back in London sometime towards the end of next week actually. I was supposed to be there for 2 weeks or so, but DH has now entirely booked himself up the week after Easter so I'll have to leave on Easter monday or make my own way back to Anglesey with Iestyn.

EssieAmma · 16/03/2010 14:27

Ooh, sorry, that was awfully self-centred.

SpiderWilliam · 16/03/2010 14:57

Thanks everyone for the ongoing congratulations, and UDC for the advice. I had a scan at six weeks with P which was because of the threatened mc. My GP got me the appointment the day after I saw him, so I know they can move fast here if they need to. I am not too worried now. I am also feeling bleugh today too [hopeful]. I have had a lovely chat with Deb on the phone today and then Sponge. I should make the effort to talk to Mnetters more rather than just relying on posting here.

Essie Sponge and I are planning to meet on Tuesday 30th March, probably to Wisley. From your post, I think you might be around then . Anyone Else available??

Swimming this morning with my NCT friend who didn't turn up last week because she was in hospital having her appendix whipped out! It is a keyhole procedure these days so she is back to swimming already

poppy34 · 16/03/2010 18:23

Hi everyone- had good week skiing (e seemed ok with nursery and I was impressed with how well run it was and nice the staff were). My skiing still very basic- a couple of years out not helped. Day swap so at home today and was glad to be as been glorious here.

Ok have tried to read what went on in my absence but not got through all posts so apologies for gaps- spider that is lovely news (Amber I am with you about having to cope with pregnancy news and actually it bothers me less than I thought ESP when it's nice people). sybil the house sounds ace and it's great that doesn't need work. Rolf how is dd doing? And how are you coping? ah great news re nanny- she sounds lovely. essie that is painful re your dh and Easter trip. Amber great going re ww and sounds like lessons going well with driving. deb fingers crossed on viewings and am so impressed with boys ski skills.

purée how is toddlerpearls doing in big bed? Still ok

? Time is coming to move e so looking for tips.

Oh forgot to say before I wEnt that have booked in to have my blocked duct removed - will leave a scar(ok but I am a bit nervous about toddler and wound on chest in early days) and has to be done under a general. Glad I went on holiday as that coupled with news that a complete cowbag I know( think I may have mentioned as someone who was a complete pita before I went on maternity leave). Thing is as I said above it's not the nice people I mind but horrible
ones and knowing dh not keen to do more tests etc as they aren't necessarily going to do anything means am havign to face up really to no number 2.

Anyway that aside e very
cute (if stroppy) and had lovely holiday.

Books popular here (although only for short time
kn each one )- Meg and mog books, any of the Eric carle ones (ESP brown bear brown bear what do you hear?) , spot books ,Anything by the bloke that did dear zoo, maisy books and the ladybird books- the little story ones or just got books for two year olds which she loved when I took away as lots of shor

t stories and it's only small. Richard scarry quite popular but for pictures only- stories usuallly a bit long except foe one about the pie rats(this , ant and vee and my fruitless pushing of Thomas the tank engine is my shameless brainwashing of books I liked).
move e I think .

OP posts:
DomesticGoddessInTraining · 16/03/2010 19:27

What's the cowbag done poppy? I think your post had iPhone-itis . Good news that you can get the duct removed but your apprehension completely understandable.

I've inherited the lurgy S had at the w/e so feeling crap and sorry for myself. Oh, and I have a sore back too. From tomorrow I'm pretty much on my tod till late Sat night so terrible typing.

Also, don't think we'll have as big a deposit (I.e. 25%) as we need to get a mortgage deal that we'll feel comfortable with to buy the house we want. DH, quite rightly, is adamant we're not going to overstretch ourself and make ourselves unhappy to move. Fingers crossed or IFA is super clever [hopeful] decking American housing markets and banks that gave out 125% mortgages for years .

Anyway, am trying to cheer myself up by thinking about my holiday! Poppy you go to France quite regularly don't you? Any tips on shopping to feed a family of 3 for a week? There were some threads recently about how expensive food shopping is in France just now [gulp]

Sorry, very self-indulgent again.

SpiderWilliam · 16/03/2010 19:29

Hoping I fall into the nice person category Poppy . Glad to hear that your holiday was good.

P is massively into books at the moment too. I have finally rehabilitated him into visiting the library. During the Autumn he would run round and pull all the books of the shelves and then climb up the stairs into the adult reading room. He now seems to be capable of sitting next to the picture books with me and looking at them. He only occasionally runs round throwing books on the floor.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 16/03/2010 20:00

Doh, have re-read your post and got the gist Poppy. Sorry my brain not functioning well. I'm glad you had a good holiday.

I've not taken S to the library for ages. The opening times are pretty rubbish for us. He does like to go and pull out all the books though!

DebInAustria · 17/03/2010 06:21

Good to hear from you Penguin and UDcake

Essie - know what you mean about the plinth!!

Lovely to chat to you too Spider, but made me sad that I don't have any friends here with toddlers, maybe we could have an online coffee morning one day and I could join in through Skype??

Poppy, good luck with the operation. sorry wanted to type more but the master of the house(ethan) is demanding attention

back later

pureeandpearls · 17/03/2010 08:50

Morning all....

don't know if I'd be up to Wisley with two smalls bu will ponder it.

Essie- will join you in the 'irritating-DH' corner. Feel like mine's only good for paying the mortgage some days. Hope you can fit a trip over to Bromley into your hectic London schedule.

Debs- sorry you feel lonely. Wish I could help xx

Poppy- I shall FB messenger you one evening, but bed seems to be going fairly well. So long as I am the one to switch off her light, she stays put and the next sound is her knocking on her door to be let out in the morning. I'm surprised there's room for her quite frankly, with all the stuffed dogs that share her bed....

speaking of which she has just asked to go back to bed. And has gone to sleep. WTF??

EssieAmma · 17/03/2010 10:00

Wow, Puree, that's impressive (going back to bed...)! I considered putting Iestyn in a bed but then decided that given his size, we can get another 2-3 years out of the cot...

Wisley is a possibility, and so is Bromley! (Thinking about it, don't I need to get some nappies from you?) Will have to look at my schedule soon.

Deb I would do an online coffee morning with you - when I'm in Wales it's pretty isolated. Obv I go to work, but I still don't socialise. I don't know how to use Skype though.

DebInAustria · 17/03/2010 10:57

Thanks Essie and Puree. Essie Skype is very easy to use, have you got a webcam and microphone?

I have been to the only social event of my week - toddler group, it's good for Ethan but the Mums all speak in dialect and so fast that I can't follow all they're saying. I just sit quietly and hope they don't ask me anything I can't answer!

Rolf · 17/03/2010 12:07

Sorry you're lonely Deb. It must be very tough for you.

DD1 went back to school yesterday but I kept DS2 at home as he was vomiting. He's back today and DS1 is at home with a high temp. Both girls were up for about 2 hours in the night. DD1 had a high temp and I though she'd be off school today but she seemed fine this morning. Thea was ok, just excited about DD1 being up and she kept giggling and licking me (bleurgh). She's wide awake now and I need her to have a huge sleep!

Did anyone watch One Born Every Minute last night? I cried quite a lot

A policeman came round last night (nothing dodgy, just an admin thing) for a meeting with DH and he ate all our supper . He kept looking hungrily at it and when I offered him some, in 3 gulps it was gone. DD1 introduced herself to him by the name of one of the silks from DH's chambers. She said "I'm Mr Smith"

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 17/03/2010 13:07

Impressed by the bed chat! Until very recently S was still flipping himself about a lot when he was asleep, but since we've introduced the duvet he seems a bit better, which reassures me a bit about when the time comes to transfer him to a bed. I think we'll try and hold off until he at least figures out that he can probably climb out if he puts his mind to it.

Today he took his little stool and pushed it up against a closed door so he could stand on it and reach the handle. Unfortunately the door opened inwards so he was very puzzled when he couldn't get it open. He's only a lightbulb moment away though...

Deb sorry things can get a bit lonely. Any word on the people who were considering buying your place to knock it down?
