Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

How exciting sybil. I'm really pleased for you and it's great that the kids like it. Hope you see lots of frogs!!!

Have massive house buying . Am off to see a woman about a house on Monday but not one that I'm likely to live in for 20 years unfortunately.

Rolf · 13/03/2010 16:36

Oh God when will this chicken pox end?

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 13/03/2010 17:15

Earlier in the week DH told me about lovely mother's day plans. Of course he didn't actually book the restaurant or anything. Am very fecked off as I studied today when the weather was nice so we could do something nice tomorrow. We're now only likely to have a nice day tomorrow if one of us (i.e. me comes up with a plan). I'm fed up of having to take charge all the time though. Am actually feeling quite about it.

Sorry about the ongoing chicken pox Rolf!

PiggyPenguin · 13/03/2010 17:28

Hope they get better soon Rolf. I find baths really helpful when they are ill, it cools them down and they enjoy extra splashing time.

For mothers day I am hoping for a long lie-in and a lazy day. Hope you get what you want DG

neenz · 13/03/2010 17:51

Sybil, how exciting about the house! I am sure it will work out for the best and it's great that DH and the kids are so excited, and great news about the school. Do you feel stressed about whether they will get into the grammar or are you confident? My sister has a GS and she feels confident her kids will get in even though they are not strictly in the catchment area. If it was me I think the worry would knock me sick! My SIL teaches in Oxfordshire and she says it is a scrum to get into the grammar schools, with all the parents hiring tutors and getting their kids all stressed. I think different areas have different attitudes, though eg where my sister lives a lot of the parents don't give a toss about their kids' eduication .

Rolf, sorry about the pox . How long till she gets better do you think? Are you trying to keep T away or are you just resigned to the fact she will probably get it?

DG, I am for you about Mother's Day! My DH is like that - I kind of have to micro-manage him or I just get disappointed! I have had my MD today because Dh is playing football tomorrow morn. I had a lie-in, then we have been out for lunch which was lovely and the DTs were very well behaved. We often do Mother's Day (and Valentine's Day for that matter) the day before, you beat the rush in the restaurants! IME it is hell going out to a restaurant on Mother's Day (and Valentine's Day!). We are going over to my sister's tomorrow where there will be my mum and dad, three sisters, me and DH, one of the sister's DHs and eight children in a two-up-two-down terrace . Hope the weather is nice so we can go to the park! So that will be less than relaxing I am sure. I'm not sure why my sis offered to host MD as she has a 7wo DS, but she offered and I didn't want to offend her by saying why don't you come here instead.

We bought some new books - I think that is the last time I support my local bookshop... £32 for six books which I am sure I could have got for at least a third less on Amazon. It's a toughie cos obviously it is nice to have the shop there but bloody expensive when you use it!

I have to admit we don't really read the stories, we really just look at the pictures to learn new words. They don't really follow stories, they just want to turn the pages/lift flaps. They do like Terible Trolls though and we do read the rhymes in that one!

PiggyPenguin · 13/03/2010 19:07

Sorry Neenz I wasn't clear. They aren't grammar schools anymore, ie. no 11+, they are now just the local single sex schools which used to be grammar schools and which still have really good results. Given it is all based on catchment we should be pretty much guaranteed places with the new house. Which is why it is 250,000 more expensive than similar houses outside the catchment.

DH is insisting that it is our retirement plan, and that we will survive financially now, and reap the benefits in 25 years time. I am a bit about that I must admit, but he and the kids wanted it so much, I couldn't say no.

neenz · 13/03/2010 19:16

Oh even better then, Sybil . Is there a link to this house [nosey]

Well the new books went down pretty well at bedtime - well, the two ITNG ones did... the other four didn't really get a look-in! E had me read one ITNG book, then she went to get the other one, then when I had finished reading that she wanted the first one again.

DebInAustria · 13/03/2010 19:51

Hi everyone, thanks for messages about the skiing

Sybil - the house sounds great

Books - I too rarely get chance to read the whole story but thankfully they are all ones I know well enough to tell very fast! I've only bought Ethan a few new books as we had so many from the boys. I buy lots from the Book People like this set They are so cheap.

Rolf · 13/03/2010 19:53

Thanks for the sympathy. Poor DD1. She doesn't seem to have it too badly (so far) but there are a couple of spots
that she's finding painful. It's more that she just isn't a child who enjoys having a quiet gentle day with Mummy and I end up feeling short tempered and inadequate. She only likes stories at bedtime so no snuggling on the sofa with a book. I did put the girls in the bath v early and let them stay in for ages, and we had a nice long play getting ready for bed. DH was out for a lot of the day and he'll be out all day tomorrow . He's taking DS1 to a rugby tournament and has been roped into taking a friend's son, so the friend's mother can have a nice mother's day

Sybil the house sounds gorgeous.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 13/03/2010 20:10

Apologies for self-indulgent post. Lots of tears before bedtime in this house today Have tried to explain to DH that I really didn't want or expect anything OTT for mothers day (I'd be perfectly happy with a lie in and maybe my favourite breakfast). So now he thinks he can't do anything right and I feel bad for making him feel bad. And S had a major meltdown at bed time (because he hasn't slept today and got offered his tea about 1/2 hour after his usual bedtime) so lots of strained nerves.

Anyway, sorry for moaning - Rolf I'm sorry your mother's day wont be up to much! Hope the pox is a bit better to cope with tomo.

It now sounds like my inconsiderate neighbours have loads of friends over which doesn't bode well. They usually all end up being very loud in the garden at 2am .

Rolf · 13/03/2010 22:24

Goddess you're as glum as I am! I hope you get some sleep and that tomorrow is better than you're expecting. I know what you mean about not expecting the earth, just something. Just a coffee in bed and get the children their breakfast would be fine.

DebInAustria · 14/03/2010 13:30

Rolf and Goddess - Happy Mother's Day to you both. I hope your days have turned out better than you expected.

Rolf - hope dd gets better soon

It's not Austrian Mothers day here thank goodness as I was up at 6.00 making breakfast for the 12 policemen who left this morning, then our next guests arrived shortly after so quick turn around of the rooms. Now the washing starts

Amberc · 14/03/2010 15:35

Goddess I hope you got a lie in at least this morning and Rolf hope the spots have started to scab over and things get back to normal. I had a lie in (till 7.30!) and scrambled and and smoked salmon this morning yum and Luke got me a voucher for a massage at the beauty salon which was lovely. Gonna go to the park once Luke has woken up. Can never get him to sleep at home in the day so he goes off quite late. Then it's a mare getting him to sleep at night too 'cos he's not tired!

Books - Luke doesn't give monkeys unfortunately. He likes the ITNG one but doesn't care for any of the others I try to read. He just flips the pages over as I'm trying to read it. I make up a load of it with words that he'll undersatnd to make it more interesting and put noises in and everything but he'd rather watch Dora. It's our own fault - too much TV.

Sybil - can we see the house (nosey too like Neenz!)

Got my WW (fat fighters) weigh in tomorrow - will be gutted if I haven't lost anything!

pureeandpearls · 15/03/2010 10:01

Our DHs obviously think alike Amber (though I also got working husband so spent all day keeping the girls out of the house as much as poss. Knackering!!)

Pocket Dictator loves books- bedtimes are a battle as we always have a 'negotiation' over the number of stories. But she can't count to 17 though;-) We also 'negotiate' over jeans versus skirts and which colour cardy she wants to wear. I thought that didn't happen for another year or so....

[whispers- making plans for her birthday party. Where have the last 22 months gone???]

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 15/03/2010 12:03

[whispers to Puree also starting to make birthday plans but have 3.5 months to go, so way too early to admit it publicly].

Things finally got back on an even keel in our house last night. S remained poorly (so therefore super whiny and hardly sleeping) so nerves and tempers were understandably fraught all w/e.

Off to get some more info about a house this afternoon

DebInAustria · 15/03/2010 14:37

Puree and goddess - stop right there, this is as bad as your forward planning and organisation of Christmas(I'm only jealous) I think I'm doing well to have most things organised for ds1's Birthday at the end of the month!

Where is everyone today? Poppy (still skiing?)Spider, essie, Abdn, Rolf(how's the pox), Sybil, Biscuits, Bugger, Sponge, Neenz, Ktpie(you're excused for not posting), Amber(how was the weigh in), Penguin, UDcake etc etc Apolgies if I forgot you off the list!

Rolf · 15/03/2010 14:56

Deb you're so nice about remembering people!

DD1 really isn't too bad with the pox. She's not even very itchy. It's lovely to have had her around today (may feel differently by the end of the week!) and she's enjoyed the quiet.

SpiderWilliam · 15/03/2010 15:05

Thanks for the gee up Deb! Yes, I am here. Been lurking...

Well the news is that I am pregnant! I am really happy, but it is crappy timing for the thread given everything that Amber and Poppy have been through recently. So, I have been holding off sharing the news. However, I am now in a state of high paranoia as I had a threatened mc at about this time when I was pg with P. Last night I briefly had some pinkish discharge (sorry TMI), which stopped. I am also not "feeling" very pregnant. So, generally I am fretting at the moment whilst trying to stay on an even keel.

In other news P has decided that he prefers showers to baths, and now demands to go in the shower cubicle each evening. Suits me as it is alot quicker.

DebInAustria · 15/03/2010 15:14

Spider - what fabulous news, congratulations to both of you.I was just trying to call when T started crying - sledging incident, might try you later...

DebInAustria · 15/03/2010 15:25

How many weeks are you Spider?

ktpie · 15/03/2010 15:36

Spider - great news! How many weeks are you? The early days of pregnancy is such a nerve wracking time.

Both boys are having naps, I've had a nap, the house is fairly clean and I've got a cup of tea so I'm feeling fairly pleased with myself. After a few days of ending up in tears last week it's about time! (This is probably the cue for Henry to wake up and wake up J!)

I enjoyed my birthday in the end, thanks for all the birthday wishes on here and FB. I got a huge bunch of flowers from DH and the florist had written "and Happy Mother's Day" on the card which had printed on it "Happy Birthday". It's a good job his frugal ways are one of the things I love about him! My mothers day was just a bog standard Sunday with DH off cycling all morning.

Books - J is another one who turns the pages really quickly then squirms off my knee when I try to read to him. Every now and then he will sit and listen but not very often. He likes to read books himself, usually with the book upside down .

Deb - well done to the boys!

Exciting news about the house Sybil.

DG - glad things are getting back to normal. Me and DH have been snapping at each other a bit over the past few weeks but it's fairly obviously caused by a lack of sleep and all being ill.

Rolf - glad your DD is on the mend.

Amberc · 15/03/2010 16:43

Spider don't worry I have got used to the fact that other people are going to get pregnant! Many many congratulations hun! I had pink discharge with Luke when I was about 6 weeks in. It went away again after 3 days. Hope yours does too.

I lost 3 pounds today at weightwatchers although my yays and woo hoos will obviously pale into insignificance after Spider's announcement...

SpiderWilliam · 15/03/2010 17:16

Thanks Amber, that is a very generous post. Well done on the three pounds too.

Thanks for the other messages too.

I am 5 weeks. Just got back from town and pleased to report that I am feeling light headed and a bit yuk

Rolf · 15/03/2010 17:23

Hooray Spider . Fabulous news!

Amber at losing 3lbs. Well done.

pureeandpearls · 15/03/2010 17:32

Amber- great news [whispers that we shall have to go for (low fat)dinner soon]

Spider- congratulations! Really delighted for you and hope that you feel well all the way through.

DG- glad I'm not the only one...sorry Debs!
