Hello ladies
We all ok?

I only managed to get myself a job interview!
It's next wednesday for a day to day cover as a teaching assistant in a SEN school no5t too far from here.
I was completely honest this morning when i spoke to them and told them that I have no experience and no relevant qualifications and she said this place would be perfect for building up experience and she'll interview me!

mumoverseas · 28/05/2010 17:24

WOO HOO!
Well done SM, thats fabulous. What better experience can you have than being a parent of two young children!
Fingers crossed for you, sounds perfect

manic day today (our Sunday) and back on the diet tomorrow. I'd done so well then got all stressed and discovered kit kat chunkys which then subsequently turned into 4lb of lard on my arse
Just been out and bought loads of fresh fruit and WW starts (again!) tomorrow.

SilveryMoon · 28/05/2010 18:11

Thanks mos I'm really pleased. I've only been job hunting for 2 days!
Dp could have been a bit more supportive, he's just bringing up all the negatives like how I don't have experience and that's what they'll look for, that I don't drive so how will i get to placements (I did also tell them I don't drive but that I manage to get everywhere on public transport, so should be fine), who will have the boys, what's the pay and will it cover childcare and travel.
And I say Who the F cares? It may be a short-term loss for a long term gain.
If I can get a job, it would take some of the financial pressure off him and he might not have to work as much.

mumoverseas · 29/05/2010 07:48

at your DP. Twunt! Go for it and ignore him, what does he know, he is just a man

SilveryMoon · 29/05/2010 08:58

Thanks mos
I think he's just trying to think through the realities of me getting a job and what it'd mean for the children, but he just cannot understand the place that I am in because he has never been a full-time stay at home parent.
I need something else in my life. i need my independence back (maybe that's what's making him uneasy) and I'm ready to leave the boys in the care of someone else without feeling guilty

katieblirdsnest · 29/05/2010 10:08

fantastic news SM. no messing!
i bet your dp is feeling a bit insecure but hopefully when he gets used to the new reality he'll realise it will all be fine and good for the family in the long run.

you're a very determined woman, i'm sure you'll reason with him soon!

mos really sorry to hear about your burglary. hope you're ok and your dd's aren't too upset by it.

dinkystinky · 29/05/2010 10:17

SM - great news on the job interview. Am sure your DP is just feeling insecure - some people are more unsettled by the prospect of change than the change itself when it comes round. It would be worth doing the sums though with DP to show how it would work out financially with you working as well as him and childcare costs for L (assume J will be in full time school/nursery by the time you start) and that might help him come round to it. Is it is a primary, junior or senior SEN school? Do you know anyone who works as a teaching assistant in one? Maybe an idea to post on the chat thread asking for SEN TAs (I know of at least one on MN) to let you know what their jobs entail etc before the interview so you can show you know what the job entails and that you can do it brilliantly at interview. I nkow you'll be fantastic.

MoS - at your burglary. The bastards. Do you think they saw the new tv being taken in? Hope the rest of your property is ok. Glad your sponsored toddle went well.

dinky I have a thread on the go and have had some great advice from a couple of people.
J starts nursery in september, but only afternoons.
This particular job I'm going for is day to day, so I'd get a call in the morning asking me to go in, so child care would need to be found quickly!
I have a friend who will help until I get a more permanent regular job and can arrange proper childcare.
Hey, I might not even get the job yet (but I might) so who knows. Lots of bridges to jump off when we get to them, but as KBN kindly said, i am quite a determined person, and when I put my mind to something, I usually find a way of making it happen.
Things will work out because they will have to, and if I get the job and it's not working out well with finding care for the lo's, I will just have to look for something else.
It will all be fine.

dinkystinky · 29/05/2010 10:54

Great minds SM! Glad you're getting some good advice and great that you've got a friend who can help out if need be - sounds like all is moving in the right direction. You're right - all will be fine - is just a case of riding the transition stage.

well done SM. Good luck with the interview.

dinkystinky · 29/05/2010 19:09

Ugh Danny is teething/viral and is being a MAJOR sleep refusnik and all round pain in the arse for the past 48 hours. Meant to be off to Cambridge tomorrow to see friends and stay in hotel in a family room - that'll be fun with mr wake up and wail for ages every hour or so

Hope everyone is having a good bh weekend.

OP posts:
katieblirdsnest · 29/05/2010 20:04

bloody teething. ivor's got 2 molars breaking through on top of the 2 molars that are halfway through (how long are they taking?!) and has been a bit of a grump today but thankfully is sleeping well.
i hope you decide cambridge is worth it anyway, sleepless but not with your friends or sleepless but with some welcome distraction?

we're getting ready for our holiday...spain for a week from this monday staying at the PILs. i can't wait. have optimistically got a pile of about 10 books but probably just the 2 will be sufficient!

hopefully by the time i'm back SM will have a job, dinky will have a sleeping danny and MOS will be en route to the UK having caught and castrated her burglar first. oh and perhaps STW will have some news on the missing caterpillar runner!

dinkystinky · 29/05/2010 20:16

Have fun in Spain KBN - v ! Hope you have a fab and relaxing time, especially after the horrid time you've had at work.

OP posts:
TulipsInTheSunshine · 29/05/2010 20:37

KBN... we're in the same boat with the bloody molars here. It's been about 2 months since i first noticed they were coming and so far three have broken the surface but haven't fully erupted and the fourth is still just a sore lump on his gum.

dinky, Cambridge should be fun even if danny is a sleepless grump but he may surprise you, A slept better in a hotel room with me and my mother than he ever did before or since

dinkystinky · 29/05/2010 20:41

Tulips - honestly Danny and A could be twins. His molars are the same - but he also has a couple of canines coming in through the bottom and top too.

SilveryMoon · 29/05/2010 21:37

dinky Hope D improves.
kbn lol Hope you have a great holiday if you don't get on again before. Very jealous.

Luke is a grumpy git. One day he's gonna change the record and stop the whinging. Jacob has had a couple of days of being a little rebellion too.

Luke is coming along with his talking now. He is quite verbal with his little noises but says choo-choo (train), brum-brum, he said car, he's been trying to say batman too whilst him and jacob chase each other round the flat.

TulipsInTheSunshine · 30/05/2010 15:43

Grrrr.... just had to leave a christening as A was being such a grump, whining and refusing to leave our arms and being a complete pain in the arse. The second we get into the house he's fine though... pottering about smiling and cheerful I'm losing my patiance with this now!

Braved talking to the priet though and arranged the boys' chistening for the 31st of July, when he heard ds1's birthday was around that time he checked to see if he could do it that day but he's away, although tbh a few days between the two suits me anyway. So we're going to have a huge joint ds1's birthday/ds1's christening/A's christening party. The priest was lovely and didn't give out to me at all about leaving it so long thankfully.

Now I get to spend the next two months panicing and going broke trying to organise this!

katieblirdsnest · 30/05/2010 16:29

Oh help us. Ivor can open the front door! He does at least give us notice by yelling 'bye, bye' whilst waving first but we're gonna have to find something to fix to the door sharpish. DD never did this!

TulipsInTheSunshine · 30/05/2010 16:51

o dear DIY shop for you guys today then very cute that he yells 'bye bye' before he heads off though... all mine go ninja silent when they're doing something they shouldn't

SilveryMoon · 30/05/2010 17:45

KBN Is def a boy thing! Jacob opens the flat door, takes Luke into the lobby and then closes the door leaving Luke yelling "mamma, mamma" in the hallway!

littlesez · 30/05/2010 20:30

hi guys just a quick hello, been in kos for a week so just trying to catch up on everything BBL x

bumpsnowjustplump · 31/05/2010 08:03

Hello all, I just wanted to pop on and say hello. Having a really busy weekend but will be back full time next week... hope all well xx

dinkystinky · 31/05/2010 12:02

KBN - lol at the Bye Bye from the rapidly disappearing toddler...

dinkystinky · 31/05/2010 19:38

Ugh - Danny has hit the separation anxiety stage so nap and bedtimes are fun fun fun - particularly as DH refuses to accept its separation anxiety and thinks we should let him cry it out (which knowing Danny is sooooooo bad an idea in so many ways). Sigh. Am hitting the gin to give me strength for the days - and nights - to come.

OP posts:
SilveryMoon · 31/05/2010 21:06

Oh dinky Poor you. Hope Danny calms soon.
It is so hard isn't it? Especially when we don't agree with our dp's on the reason for upsets etc.
Although, i can be a little hard on my children, I do think that most of the time they need comfort and reassurance, where dp thinks shouting will do the trick.
I do hope you can both see eye to eye on it, will make it easier to cope.
