Anyone know how many extra calories a day you need if BFing a 4 1/2 month old? Ate a whole sleeve of cookies over the last two days.... Won't tell you what else I've been eating -- too embarrassed. Let's just say I'm surprised I'm still in my pre-pregnancy jeans with all I eat!

Made breakfast for dinner because I fancied (streaky) bacon.

The last few days Seb's taken to requesting the dairy bar be opened every 1 1/2 to 2 hours at night, starting anywhere from 10:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. He's also been getting up for the around 6 a.m. Am exhausted. And thinking about it, he's been on an almost similar schedule during the day. He's gained back the weight he lost when he had his cold and then some, and is back following just below the percentile line he's been on almost since he was born.

Had a very surreal (first) Mother's Day and am trying to figure out how I feel about it all.

And, while I realize I'm a day late and a dollar short (sorry, American saying), I'd like to wish you all a Happy Mother's Day. I know we haven't met in RL, but you have been a life-saver on your ends of the computer. Chats on here have made me realize I'm not alone in a lot of my thoughts and feelings and for that I am truly grateful. So while I know Mother's Day comes but once a year, I hope you realize every day that you are valued in some way or another.

fidelma · 16/03/2010 04:55

scout Dh and I laugh and say that one of the reasons I wanted a 4th was so that I could continue eatting whatever I wanted to, as breast feeding seems to burn up loads of extra calories !!!!

I have just eatten a dairy milk at 4.30am

Connor wants to get up NO WAY I SAY

littlepea72 · 16/03/2010 06:12

Im back!!!

Sorting out so much stuff here, between my DS & his medical assessments, going on holiday (back to Northern Ireland) next week, looking at houses on the internet & starting to get things ready for moving back home....alot, but oh i cant wait! I have a whole cellar that needs clearing out. Being on the move so much, there must be over 30 boxes, and some from Canada that havent been open in 4 years....dump it all i say, well, sell what i can first lol

My cat Bob had an Op in his mouth yesterday, its like having another baby in the house

Glad for all the little ones who are doing well on the solids. So much for the HV telling me that Faith needs to be on them 3 times a day, she has decided that she doesnt want any. I have gotten the Gina Ford weaning book, it looks great, so will try that. It tells you what foods etc, its all changed since i last done it

HC love your idea of a gardener, DH is talking about getting one in, we have a field for a garden, so i would welcome it!

Faith has decided that she wont be weighed anymore she trashs, kicks & screams when she is put onto the scales, dont understand why they dont have one that she can sit on. Cant remember who said about HV saying not to bring their wee one to be weighed until 8 months old What???? That is a terrible thing to say! and its not just that its nice to know, its also the getting out, into the waiting room with all the other mothers, to have a chat, i love it! I only went once a month, but it got me out.

You lucky things eating chocolate & still loosing weight! Ive put so much on, and ive stopped eating almost everything, still nothing happening lol

Scout19075 · 16/03/2010 07:29

Thinking of taking Sebby swimming today. We've also been asked to be the mum and baby at the breastfeeding workshop our midwives do for expecting mums, so will be doing that this afternoon. And tonight is Guide night -- but I'll be meeting with the Seniors (14+ old girlies) during the meeting instead of my normal Guides (10-14 year old girlies).

Am I crazy? Is this too much for one day? Am I setting myself up for a meltdown?

Seb seems to be eating constantly at the moment and if he's not eating he's trying to sleep or sleeping. There is time to play, but the big things seem to be eating, getting to sleep and sleeping. During the day he seems to sleep better if we're out and about. On a positive, though, when he's up in the night for the dairy bar he's an efficient eater, falls asleep when he's finished and when I transfer him back to his basket he settles in and is sleeping within seconds.

Does anyone have a recommendation of where I can find a nice basket to use as an Easter Basket? I've found a website has some really nice shopping basket type baskets (I like some of the child-sized ones and think they would be a cute Bunny basket) but do like to go with recommendations if possible.

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

HumphreysCorner · 16/03/2010 10:16

Hi all

fidelma-that is an early start.

Scout-swimming sounds good. Would like to take Matthew soon when I find suitable trunks. Not sure where to find the baskets.

littlepea-our grass is a field that we built the house on. Even though I have Greenthumb to feed and weed 4 times a year at the end of the day it is still a field. Takes 2.5 hours to just cut it, then strimming takes more time and then I'm too exhausted to dig the 2 borders and trim bushes. Also not fair to leave the girls unattended for so long and M needs attention all the time so having someone to cut the grass and strim is a Godsend. Although DH seems to think he can now play on his motorbike now he never has to do the grass instead of doing other jobs. He only cuts it when I'm PG. Hope Bob is Ok after his op. Have found a louse on my cars fur Have put some Frontline on and hoping that will get rid of them.

ruby-clever Ruby trying to sit. M is happy to roll one way and get stuck on his tummy.

So Matthew is on 3 meals a day and drinking even more milk, am getting engorged now and leaking in the night for the first time. Gave him a dream feed at 11pm and he still woke at 3am and 6am.

I am so far from fitting in my pre PG jeans and can't stop eating. Will have to eat less when M feeds less.

Big wave!

welcome curlimum!

re: weight loss/eating - have lost a stone since jan but i am not eating any cakes or treats and exercising. i think it's hard to lose weight whilst bf! i still have 7 lbs to lose. am in some pre-preg clothes but not all. hungry all the time! am hoping now charlie is having 3 x bott of f a day my appetite will decrease. engorged all the time from sudden decrease in feeding. am sad to be giving up bf but i only ever intended to ebf for 6 months.

going out in the sunshine!

princessmel · 16/03/2010 14:20

I'm here!
F is a bit grouchy today I think teeth may be on the way. Hate saying that, it's such a cliche but I think it's true today.

We have just been in the garden, hanging out the washing. I thought I would put F in his chair to watch me but he wasn't in the mood He normally would love that. Then tried him in his pram for a sleep but no go! And then his crib but he was not happy, he's now asleep on my shoulder.
Poor sausage. Yesterday he had a lovely sleep in his crib for 1 hr 10 mins, thats a personal best for him (in the crib in the day..) Last week he had a 3hr sleep in the pram. No rhyme or reason why he sleeps longer sometimes and not others

littlepea It was me was told I didn't need to weigh F. I know you don't have to go every week but I like to go now and again. They made me feel silly and time wasting tbh

I had my haircut yesterday and am NOT HAPPY with it I feel very frumpy, mumsy and dull. On a positive note at least it wont be as knotty now...
hope you're all ok

princessmel · 16/03/2010 14:22

Sorry...Welcome curlimum

DA have you decided to cut the bf back to give you more time or are you going back to work (I can't remember..!!)

Igglybuff · 16/03/2010 14:55

Welcome curli!

Hi everyone! The sun is shining which makes it soooo much easier to deal with lack of sleep.

I'm going to catch up on all the posts I've missed.

For weight loss I suggest cutting out dairy. I don't miss it anymore (well I could kill for a macaroni cheese) and I'm now slimmer than I was pre-baby. Ridiculous.

Can anyone recommend a decent light weight travel cot? We were given a traditional play pen style one but it's too big and I can't see William sleeping in it.

scout have you tried any gardening websites for baskets? I've been into a nice garden shop (petite jardin ??) which had lovely ones that you'd collect veg etc in. I'll see if I can look one up later.

Back later ladies!

princessmel · 16/03/2010 14:58

I saw some baskets in TK Maxx

devilsadvocaat · 16/03/2010 15:33

pm - not going back to work just feel like i want to start winding it down. with ds1 i gave up at about 8/9 months but i wasn't ebf with him and he had a bed bottle from earlier on. i have enjoyed bf charlie but now i've reached 6 months, i want my body back. i want to be able to go out and not worry. i still feel sad but i know it is what i want really.

curlimum · 16/03/2010 18:46

reading about eating loads while breastfeeding reminded me of this blog post i read -i recommend it if you need a good old belly laugh with real tears and everything!

im trying out the GI diet at the moment. easing myself into it while i finish eating all my 'red light' breakfast cereal got to add a couple extra choc bisuits to account for breastfeeding though! i was only going to breastfeed for 6 months too devils...but then i found out the price of formula!!

nice to meet you all...looking forward to browsing this thread every now and then!

lal123 · 16/03/2010 18:54

evening allxxxx

Littlepea - must be something in the air - I've just booked a flight home (N Ireland!)for me and DDs at Easter. Leaving DP home alone Lucky beggar will get some full nights sleeps!

Can't believe that our wee ones are growing up so quickly! Still bfing - like you curli the cost of formula and the hassle means I want to continue as long as possible. When DD1 started on solids and I cut down a bit on bfing my milk dried up - hoping this won't happen with Maia, think I might express to keep supply up.

Don't tell the HV but we've started giving Maia a couple of small meals a day (have I already admitted this? She loves her food and I can't shovel it in to her quick enough. Hasn't helped with the sleeping though!

Better go - DP on his way down with DDs after their bath.tcxx

devilsadvocaat · 16/03/2010 20:49

formula is soooo expensive!

princessmel · 16/03/2010 20:52

Very true! Dd never had formula (or a bottle with anything in it!)and was bf till 2.4yrs. Dh always went on about how much money we'd saved!!

She has asthma like ds1 though so don't really understand that I thought all the bf would have helped her.

fidelma · 16/03/2010 21:31

my friends best friend has died today. It has been a painfull journey for all.She leaves a lovely husband and 4 young children.I am so sad for them all.

Scout19075 · 16/03/2010 22:06

I'm sorry Fidelma and sending hugs your way.

Scout19075 · 16/03/2010 22:17

Skipped the swimming today and went for a walk to enjoy the sunshine instead. Oh please let it continue!

I was on the phone with my Mom before we left for Guides tonight and we had rolling! First time Seb's done it by himself. He went from tummy to back (which I believe is the easier direction) on the bed (which Mom said is more of a challenge). Poor Mom got an earful as I squealed in delight and praised Sebby with squeals and clapping and then smothered him in kisses on his feet (he was kicking the air in glee).

twinklegreen · 16/03/2010 22:20

fidelma that's so sad, thinking of her family x

ok, so i have avoided it so far but have 'accidentally' watched 'one born every minute'... it's funny how watching people in excruciating pain can make you broody... ... ... must not have anymore babies
