Fidelma, thinking of you xxx

Twinkle I keep telling myself that too!

Happy St Patricks Day everyone!!

Scout19075 · 17/03/2010 08:04

I find it's the c-section ones that send me bawling (I'm watching our recorded "One Born Every Minute" right now). While I wasn't a category 1 emergency, I definitely ended up with an emergency section and can sympathize with the mums. I'm also oddly facinated by the ones where they actually show the baby being pulled out during the section because, obviously, when you're having one you can't see what's going on (though my hubby has some amazing pictures of Seb (taken through the doctors' arms) as they were pulling him up after they got him out).

Igglybuff · 17/03/2010 10:08

fidelma that's so so sad.

twinkle I tried to watch that on the computer last night but not working. Probably for the best as I'd leap on DH and demand to make another one. I've not had enough sleep to even think of such madness.

scout well done Seb! I was on the phone to DH when he did it for the first time. DH was gutted but he got W to roll the other way so he was pleased.

How much does formula cost? I'm thinking about introducing some when I start weaning but not sure yet.

princess I've heard that the latest research was inconclusive on asthma and BF?

Can anyone help me with stuffy noses? Every morning William wakes up and his nose is blocked having been fine at night. So he can't feed properly. We have the humidifie on at night but usually it's the other way around?? Am I going to have to keep it on all day that we're home?!

curlimum · 17/03/2010 11:29

fidelma

iggly i found that some drops of karvol on a muslin tied around the bars of Roanna's cot seemed to ease the stuffiness. she was rattling and snuffling away for hours and i was getting panicked - after the karvol her breathing seemed to get much easier.

about formula cost - i think i remember my SIL saying it cost her £7 -£10 a week even when my niece was on solids!

i tried to get Ro to roll today...but i ended up doing it for her and clapping and cheering anyway!!! maybe it will encourage her?

princessmel · 17/03/2010 12:14

Fildelma that is so very sad

iggly that is a shame, but I'm sure my milk has helped my dc's in lots of other ways

snuffly noses Ds2 has olbas oil on a musly (tied to bars of crib) every night!! Plus when he is very blocked up we use the carvol nose spray. It's very good imo. Makes ds2 sneeze and clear his nose.

rubyslippers · 17/03/2010 18:17

had no internet access - will try to catch up

for your news Fidelma

love to everyone x

Igglybuff · 17/03/2010 19:44

I've not heard of carvol before. I'll check that out, thanks! The nose spray sounds good. I had been using one of those bulb syringes but William now gets really annoyed with me when I come at him with it.

curli you can try and encourage rolling by using toys as bait... We did that with William! Now he wont stop rolling. I'm struggling to change his nappy most days as he just wants to turn over He's also making crawling movements with his legs when we do tummy time. I'm going to have to buy some gates!

A question about poos (sorry!). How often do your babies go? William has been going three times a day the last week or so which I think is a bit much as he used to be one a day baby. I think it's either linked to his cold or perhaps teething? His bum looks red too and it seems to be uncomfortable when he does go as his face goes red. Poos are generally yellow with dabs of green (TMI!!) any ideas?

princess I'm impressed that you BF for that long! Wow. I'd love to keep going for a year but W is so distractable with his feeds that I can't see me doing it much longer it's reached the point where I rarely feed him when he's fully awake as he wont focus.

devilsadvocaat · 17/03/2010 19:54

iggly - nappy rash usually comes with teeth. try washing bum with water after every poo and leaving nappy off as much as poss. 3 a day is normal, as is one. try saline drops up the nose (from chemist).

fidelma -

the formula i bought cost £8.50

not much to report here. charlie rolls both ways and is sitting with support. he looks so tiny in the high chair!

tired but think i'm going swimming so had better muster up some energy from somewhere...

Igglybuff · 17/03/2010 19:57

Thanks devils. He had a couple of hours of "airtime" today which he loved! So will do that every day until it clears.

HumphreysCorner · 17/03/2010 20:10

Evening all

Fidelma-can't believe how soon this sad time has come. So tragic.

Matthew rolls only from back to tummy which makes him sick. Now he is on solids he has gone from pooing once a week to sometimes 3 times a day. He is also a tad constipated so had to help him a bit earlier as a bit was stuck halfway out. He was then able to do loads.

Karvol drops are fab, use them all the time on a hanky tied to the cot bars.

One born every minute had me crying again last night. The couples were just lovely last night. Apparently next week will be a tear jerker too.

Big wave to everyone.

curlimum · 17/03/2010 21:07

humphreys pooing once a week? Roanna poos at least twice a day, up to 4 times... not so good when i use cloth nappies :P (does that answer your question too iggly? i think it varies a lot tbh) am also cringeing at the thought of helping poo out - they didnt tell me this in motherhood class!

im going to try making her roll over with toys, but its still pretty easy changing her, so maybe i wont be too hasty

how old are all of your dc's? i think R must be one of the youngest...so wont worry if she is lagging behind!!

fidelma · 17/03/2010 21:13

Just a quick Hi as life is a bit hectic at the moment.

Thank you for all your thoughts.

Hi curlimum great to have you on the thread.

I have ended up getting involved in some work, all very exciting.

Waves to all

off to find some chocolate

I always breast feed for 2 years

Scout19075 · 17/03/2010 21:22

curlimum Sebastian was born 28/10, so he was 4 1/2 months on Sunday.

Iggly Sebby used to be a once a day baby, then started only going every two to three days. He's still on the two to three days, but with the Infant Gaviscon is a bit constipated sometimes and his poos are the consistancy of playdough. Good for me no more bum explosions and so easy to clean up! but bad for him because sometimes he's straining and straining to go. On another positive, though, I always know when I'm facing a stinky bum (he goes red in the face and his eyes get watery when he's going).

devils Seb doesn't have diaper rash, but I try to give him a bit of air-time every day. However, that always seems to end up in wee everywhere! I usually open him up and wait for up to a minute before removing the nappy and still leaving him to air results in wee! However, nothing was as funny as the day he caught himself in the face....

I'm hoping to ebf until 6 months before thinking of food. In fact, if/when I go to the States for Mother's Day, Sebby will be 6 1/2 months and am thinking of trying him on a bit of food while we're there. I'll be relaxed and will have all day to try/play/experiment (as opposed to here where we seem to have a group/appointment/meeting just about every day). I'd also like to go up to a year, but am torn between weening him off breast milk as soon as possible after 6 months so I can start my treatments in the autumn or going until one year and doing treatments in the spring 2011. So many things to think about!

Seb's still requesting the dairy bar be opened every two hours at night. I'm sooo tired. However, have noticed that during the day his cycles seem to be about 1 1/2 to 3 hours -- eating/playing/sleeping. Is it normal to have such wide swings of awake/asleep? And sometimes he'll nap for 15 minutes and other times for 90. I can't seem to find a pattern or rationale for it all.

devilsadvocaat · 17/03/2010 21:33

curlimum - charlie is 6 months in a week.

scout - we started weaning at 24 weeks as charlie seemed ready. best to try when you feel he's ready for it than having a specific time in mind. am sure he'll be ready at 6.5 months. also, after refusing a bottle for the last 5.5 months, i cannot believe how easy it was to get him to take formula from a bottle! not sure what you should do about your treatments but maybe see how you feel nearer the time?

I have breastfed all mine till about 13mths, I have found they have lost interest about then, and I have wanted to get pregnant again (I don't ovulate AT ALL until I have stopped!) then have always been pregnant next cycle. I don't know what I'll do this time, as Amelie is my last. I'm torn between carrying on as long as possible and wanting my body back to myself after 5 years of constant prgnancy/feeding...

OP posts:
devilsadvocaat · 18/03/2010 09:06

wow twinkle
well done!

Igglybuff · 18/03/2010 11:03

twinkle I'm impressed! And fidelma too!

Just seen the list - W's birthday is wrong... it's 1 Oct not 2nd.

scout I add more water (only 5ml) to the gaviscon which means easier for William to go. However I've stopped it now as find that it's useless for his silent reflux. We've also found that his throwing up can be prevented by makng sure he doesn't get overexcited/overtired. This has meant me leaving playgroups early, stopping and just watching during classes and confiscating him from the grandparents. However it's worth it. The ranitidine is also wearing off despite increasing the dose for his weight gain.

As a result we've decided to wean properly (as opposed to flinging bits of veg his way!) tomorrow, starting with baby porridge. We'll also do BLW too. William seems ready to me - he's 24 weeks today and has taken well to finger food we have already offered. I just have a dilemma about introducing formula as worried it'll set his reflux off again. He's reverting back to a nursing strike as his silent reflux is coming back

curlimum i find it hard not to worry sometimes about William's progress especially as I have two nieghbours with babies a week older. Everytime I hear how theirs are doing I think W isn't doing that... Then a few days later he is! In fact he made such huge leaps between 4&5 months it was incredible.

scout I've found that W is less obvious about his tired signs now which can result in varied cycles. However I find if I take him out of a exciting situation after 60-90 mins and keep him close and calm he'll start to rub the eyes etc etc so I know he needs a nap. I've been doing this as he gets overtired so easily and tricks you as he seems so excited! But I now know better

HumphreysCorner · 18/03/2010 14:05

Matthew's sleep is worse now he is weaned than when he was just BF

Got to prepare a mini surprise buffet for MIL's birthday today. Better press on as need to pick DD1 up at 3pm.

Laters!

rubyslippers · 18/03/2010 20:37

I do not want to hear that sleeping is worse post weaning HC!!

hope the buffet goes well

am going to start to wean Rubes this weekend

she is grabbing stuff off my plate when i am eating

she also sat up today

new picture of her on my profile if anyone wants a sneaky peek ...

CalypsoFramboise · 18/03/2010 20:45

Hiya all,

Have been ill with norovirus, urgh. V hard being quite so pukey and dealing with a grouchy hungry sleep-depriving baby!

Had Annalise weighed today and despite somewhat chaotic/unstructured start to weaning and endless bfeeding she's dropped below 1st centile Called St Thomas' and begged them to move my appointment with the paediatritian from mid-April and heh, have an appointment Monday morning. They said I could take her to A&E if I was really worried (Help! My daughter is growing too slowly! ), but v relieved something will be happening soon...

curlimum hello :-)

iggly have bought the Samsonite Bubble Cot - very small, super lightweight and handy with mozzie net. Also Annalise used to poo after every feed and has dropped to 2-3 a day.

fidelma that's so so sad, sympathy for your friend's family

meetup Not administrator for FB group so can't make an event, so shall we say Sunday April 18th 3pm? 4th Floor Blue Bar at Royal Festival Hall? Will I be all alone?!

CalypsoFramboise · 18/03/2010 20:46

x-post ruby lovely photos!

curlimum · 18/03/2010 22:10

thanks twinkle!
and i can add: Roanna May born 30/10/09

hi calypso...had a sneaky peek at your profile and very jealous at your lovely daughter sitting up already! ruby too... [frustrated competitive mum emoticon]

im quite excited to start weaning, but Roanna is not interested yet, so will wait for closer to 6 months. i have tried to tempt her with a spoonful of carrot or baby rice, but as far as i could tell nothing actually got swallowed so i didnt persevere.

my MIL is having a birthday and retirement party in the next 2 weeks -cue lots of frenetic family buzzing around-ness (feeling tired already!). MIL expects to be spending lots more time with Roanna after her retirement, but im feeling worried because R doesnt seem to like her at all!! she cries when MIL tries to cuddle her etc. I try to find excuses, but dont know how to fix it without upsetting MIL. has anyone else had this experience?

i should probably go to bed now. dh sprang an unexpected supper guest on me today so lots of dishes to do...but i think they are going to have to wait till tomorrow

fidelma · 18/03/2010 22:43
