10 years ago tonight I was in labour with dd1.I can't believe it, it feels like yesterday ! (or am I confusing that with Connor Bear ?)

It is her birthday tommorow she was 14 days late.

I am off to start a journel. ( I will probably lose it!!!)

Oh i feel like a little Cath Kidson shop

fidelma · 09/03/2010 21:20

ps my hair is still falling out and my fingers are a bit sore.I am sure I had this with the others.

Also I get head aches and a bad neck with all the carrying (and the very high heals I wore on Sunday)

Off to the physio me thinks.

Watching One Born Every Minute on +1 I swear I was never this broody before Seb, why am I now?! Must be all of the wee new babies newbies are all so beautiful.

twinklegreen · 10/03/2010 08:11

scout I am avoiding one born every minute as it will make me far to broody and sad that I'm not having anymore!

fidelma my hair is also still falling out, it's everywhere, it's getting really annoying now. I also get a really bad back around this time (sciatica) so I'm trying really hard to be extra careful to lift properly.

We're having some very big trees taken down on our plot at the moment, yesterday one of the neighbours reported us to the council saying they had preservation orders on them. fortunately the council were aware they were coming down. they did have preservation orders on them but the council lifted them and said they were dying so we had to take them down. I'm a bit with the neighbours for trying to be arkward (sp?) hope they're not going to be like this the whole way through...

lixanismapolium · 10/03/2010 19:41

I'm in the South, so a London meet up is a possibility, depending on the day of course

Scout19075 · 10/03/2010 21:34

Another very random question from the token American -- what are other peoples family traditions regarding Easter/eggs/bunnies/baskets/etc? I've asked DH what his family did growing up (so I could get an idea what SiL does with her brood) and all I got was "the hunt you and SiL (not one with brood) do has only been done since the sprogs have been around." Am very torn between doing an American Easter tradition with Seb or conforming to DH's family traditions (which not sure there are any!) to keep the peace/keep confusion down between DS and DN&Ns. Am sort of conforming to their family regarding Christmas stockings/Santa presents so think I'd really just like to have an American Easter! We (Seb and I) are both British and American and while I understand he's being raised here, I want him to have some of my family traditions.

Am I crazy?

Scout19075 · 10/03/2010 22:43

Passing out homemade chocolate chip muffins to all of the mommies for their morning breakkie and heading off to bed. I hope all of the mommies and babies have a wonderfully long and deep and restful sleep tonight!

fidelma · 10/03/2010 22:43

SCOUT The Easter Bunny comes to our house and hides eggs in the garden.Which is no mean feet to do on Easter morning before everyone wakes up!!! Last year DS1 said that "it was the ghost of nature!!!!" aged 3 1/2

The only problem is that they stop beliving in the Easter Bunny way before Santa which can cause some bright children to question the whole Santa thing quicker than you may like.iykwim

We didn't have the Easter Bunny when I was little so I am not sure why we started doing it

Then of course you have the problem of them getting way toooo much chocolate and as everyone knows, any really good parent must protect their dc from way toooooo much chocolate by eatting it themselves. This is the only thing a really good parent can do yum yum yum yum

i have had a crazy day.DD was 10 so lots of excitement (and telling off for stealing the top hats that were for the party tea!!! and DD2 having a major strop)So all a bit of a juggle. It ended with a choral concert at school, which the birthday girl was in.I had a tear in my eye as I thought about what I was doing 10 years ago and what I/she was doing tonight.
Roll on the next 10 !!!!!!!!!

I also thought that I was one of the younger parents in the audience at 35 but in 18 years time Connor maybe singing in his final year and I will be 53

Off to think about 10 years ago.Oh yes I remember total shock and exhaustion!!!

lixanismapolium · 11/03/2010 07:25

THere's never been an Easter Bunny in our family. People just give each other easter eggs (or sometimes a healthier alternative).

littlepea72 · 11/03/2010 08:17

Back in an hour for an update

Igglybuff · 11/03/2010 08:51

Morning all, thanks for the kind words. Funeral is in a couple of weeks which will be hard but it will be nice to hear all the stories about my uncle from family and friends.

I'll now catch up on the rest of the thread!

twinklegreen · 11/03/2010 09:39

scout we dye hard boiled eggs different colours then roll them down a hill outside on easter monday then eat them for lunch. Not many other people I know do this, it's possibly a North East tradition?? We also have a simnel cake on easter Sunday and give each other chocolate eggs. No easter bunny in our house either...

just thought of another one... my family don't eat meat on good Friday only fish (doesn't really affect me as I don't eat meat or fish anyway)

devilsadvocaat · 11/03/2010 09:55

scout - we used to have an easter bonnet competition, then we ran out of ideas! now we all decorate a hard boiled egg. secret vote then my mum hands out prizes. we also do an easter egg hunt at nanny's house with all dc and adults. usually boys v girls.

charlie is stil loving his food. i also gave him 4oz of formula in a bottle this morn which he took no probs this means someone else can feed the baby for the first time in 6 months... FREEEEEDOM!!!

the end is near

Scout19075 · 11/03/2010 15:06

At home, the Easter Bunny is the one that hides all of the (dyed) eggs for the children to find in the morning when they wake up. He also either fills the Easter baskets that have been left out or brings one (depends on the family for that one -- we were a leave the baskets out on the piano for the bunny to find sort of family). And in the baskets you'd normally find a chocolate bunny and some other little sweets and treats like jelly beans and bite-size chocolates. Because there were three of us, we didn't get as much chocolate/sweets as some of my friends but would find a treat like a book or CD in our basket with our chocolate bunny. My DH's family exchanges chocolate eggs and have only recently (since I've been on the scene) done an "egg hunt" which involves chocolate eggs and plastic eggs filled with sweets and treats (like pennies, playdough, etc). I think the DNs&Ns realize that it's their AuntieL and AuntieScout that do it, though.

I really want the Easter Bunny to visit Seb and fill his basket but, since we stay over at my PsiL house for the weekend, am afraid this would confuse him/the DNs&Ns. Either way, I have a wonderfully soft and snuggly stuffed bunny for him for his first Easter since he can't have chocolate eggs yet.

And being Catholic, I'm meant to be fasting and not eating meat, etc., but the church has said that nursing mothers are exempt. Good thing, really, because my appetite is HUGE at the moment, trying to keep up with the young one.

Scout19075 · 11/03/2010 15:13

Oh! twinklegreen The White House also does an egg hunt and rolling eggs down a hill, so don't think you're alone in that. No hill at the inlaws, but have some where I am.

devilsadvocaat Like the bonnet competition idea -- might have to see if the neices want to have a go (nephews and Sebby still a bit young to try).

HappyTangerine · 11/03/2010 16:28

Just to say that am loving readng about your Easter traditions. Have been ill with a v nasty virus (Bornholm) since Monday and have only really just surfaced. DH took whole week off to look after us. We all 3 now have colds which is infinately better than the hell of the viral infection. So thankful Joseph didn't get it (its doing the rounds here in town) as its v v nasty. The speed at which I went downhill on Monday is quite shocking. Now indulging in the healing power of chocolate.

Igglybuff · 11/03/2010 19:42

HT I just googled Bornholm - sounds awful. Glad you're on the mend!

devils hurrah for your freedom

twinkle your neighbours sounds like right pains in the rear end. I hope they don't try and pull any more fast ones like that.

HC hope the solids produce more naps! I'm hoping so when we start... Just better sleep in general really.

boob sorry to hear about M. I hope you/doc can work out what the problem is.

We've been giving William a bit of food to play with every lunch time - just so he stops trying to grab my lunch. He seems to like sucking on apples. When he hits 26 weeks, we'll give him a bit of pureed stuff and see how he takes to it.

He's still got this nasty cold which is stopping him from sleeping properly and also messes with feeding. Our bathroom is too drafty for me to run a hot shower to clear his nose in the day!

I'm off to bed shortly as the night wakings are quite ridiculous at the moment and W wont sleep in his cot. I think he's teething too as he keeps biting things really hard. So I've been giving him teething powder and calpol (as when I had his cold, I had headaches) so hoping it makes him feel better.

scout I love the idea of doing Easter traditions - def when W is older I think. Glad to hear you don't have to give up anything. I too am always hungry and if I don't have a post lunch snack I get very ratty!
