If you get really concerned over weekend, take her to A&E, at least they will check her out. Poor wee soul, I hope she starts feeling better soon

Scout19075 · 16/04/2010 19:50

Thanks littlepea. It's all becoming real again (was able to put it at the back of my mind in November after my appointment). But it's good knowing I have a plan of attack on several fronts. Have chosen to start in the August group so that I have family (family holiday in August) during what I expect will be the worst of the side effects. Also need to be on it before at least six weeks before going back for Thanksgiving so that rules October out (which is what I was originally thinking). I'm hoping by starting when I am, I'll be over the worst of the side effects (apparently you get used to the meds and the effects lessen) before Seb's mobile/on his feet. But I can't believe how quickly six months has come around!

Bella Thanks for the info about fish and chicken. He's had a chicken jar but not sure he liked it much, so am just holding out for six months so I can make him real chicken. Is honey really 1 year? At home I think it's 2 years. I used to be in food marketing and I swear our labels said none before aged two. Seb went diving for my (American) peanut butter today -- I let him smell it but said "peanut butter is for Mommies and soon will be for Sebbies but not yet."

princessmel Big hugs for you and your DD.

Oh, littlepea, we head back to the US on May 6th. The flight was booked before GB asked for the election, so I'm glad he decided to do it while I was still in the country. DH and I will go to vote and then he'll take us to Heathrow. I'll land, get to my parents' house, put Sebby to bed and then go online to watch the results come in.

Started Seb on his third meal of the day today. Mmmm, baby cereal. Surprisingly he really liked it I didn't think he would since he turned his nose up at baby porridge and baby rice. I figure at 6 months I will try BLW again along with his puree/spoon feeding. He really doesn't like picking up the food into his mouth, which is odd because toys, muslins, bibs, clothes, fingers, etc go into his mouth. I also got a small carton of formula to soak a rusk in to see if he likes thought I might just start the rusks on formula milk instead of breast milk since I'm not sure I'd be able to get out enough to soak a rusk in. (Lots of soaks and rusks in that last sentence!)

It's very quiet out of the window with no planes flying. Very eerie. Very immediate days post-911.

Igglybuff · 16/04/2010 20:19

Hi everyone!

Finally get a chance to catch up after having a few unsettled nights with William. Not sure what's up but every time we've put him down, he's awake 10 mins later, then half hour etc etc. Not sure if it's teething.

princess I hope your DD gets better soon. Can you see a different GP?

HC LOL at the exploding poo. I've discovered that plum's apple and apricot porridge makes William poo within an hour of having it. Shame I keep forgetting and give it to him anyway - this morning he did the most enormous poo 5 mins before we had to leave for baby sensory. Unfortunately I did not realise until I picked him up and ended up with poo on my arm, down his leg, on the carpet........

littlepea I love those bibs - we've got a couple. Although I haven't worked out how to stop William getting food in his hair!

Bella I'm trying BLW but giving mashed food as well although letting William feed himself from the spoon. He likes munching on finger foods but I haven't progressed much further really! He's getting the hang of lumps really quickly (so much so he swallows quite big chunks!) - I think giving the finger foods at the start has helped.

meet up how many people are coming? Now, I know it should be obvious given we'll all have babies, but how will we know each other when we turn up?? Do we need a code word?! I'm going to be wearing a bright red coat and will have William in a baby bjorn sling if that helps.

twinkle I hope the sleep lasts and the build is going well. I've been watching grand designs and getting jealous.

fidelma I'll keep posting on this thread! I read it everyday via my iphone anyway - it's just finding time to actually post as I can't write long ones unless on my PC. Maybe on sunday I can post hello from us all at the meet!

ruby how's the millpond stuff going?

curli glad to hear from you!

I've missed a few off so sorry but hello anyway!

Ok, I have a question about haircuts - William's hair is looking really unruly. Has anyone had their baby's hair cut? I can't do it myself as it's curly (hence looking unruly, especially as his bald patch is growing back but the sides are still long!) I might take him to the barbers but feel a bit silly........ Those coming to the meet up on sunday will see his hair and know what I mean!

Time to have a quick bath as looks like William has settled

rubyslippers · 17/04/2010 09:11

just a very quick one from me - am poorly

not sure if it is the months of sleep deprivation or what but i have a dreadful sore throat and temperature

i don't think i will be in any fit state to meet up tomorrow and am absolutely bloody gutted to be missing it

hope you are all well - am going to lie down whilst Rubes is napping

catch up when i am feeling perkier

x

Igglybuff · 17/04/2010 11:41

Hi ruby get well soon

on that note, William seems to have a tummy bug - he projectile vomited everywhere this morning after an unsettled night. We're keeping an eye on today - if hrs better tomo morning then I'll be there! If not it's cos he's still sick.
I was worried it might be a urine infection as the end of his winkle is red. But he doesn't seem in pain when he wees.... fingers crossed he'll be ok - it was horrible this morning with sick coming out of his nose which upset him

rubyslippers · 17/04/2010 11:58

oh Iggly that is rotten

fingers crossed he is on the mend soon

am so gutted to be missing tomorrow - i really hope we do another meet

CalypsoFramboise · 17/04/2010 17:20

Ruby So sorry to hear that you are unwell, hope you get much better very soon! I know how awful it is to be so ill and looking after a baby, really hope you have someone to look after YOU! {{HUGS}}

Iggly hope William recovers too, poor little boy. x

PrincessMel sounds really worrying about your DD, GP sounds rubbish, fingers crossed she picks up.

HC good to know about bowel-movement inducing food - Annalise is getting quite constipated, felt sad watching her get really red in the face straining hard

meetup so its Scout, Bella and I? Bella and I know each other already so just Scout to work out? I'm small, slightly Spanish looking (am French-Moroccan) and will have Annalise in a sling

I've only just noticed how quiet it is in the sky, and I live in the Heathrow flight-path!

princessmel · 17/04/2010 18:29

Hi all

ruby sorry you're so poorly iggly sorry your dd is not well too.
Dd has* improved a bit She ate some salami and a mini snack egg last night and a few peices of pasta. Today she's eaten a bit too. Maybe half the amount she usually eats so that's loads better. No mention of the tummy ache so fingers crossed...Thanks for your well wishes.

meet up ....it's so not happening for me Dh just doesn't want to go. We are not far away either . He is saying we have DIY to do, (that's true) and now my mum has said she'll come to the farm with me...which I've been asking her to do for ages. So I will need to taker her up on her offer . Plus dh can finish the plastering.....

Had a lovely day today with my friend and her 3 dd's. We were in the garden/park in the sunshine all day

Igglybuff · 17/04/2010 19:31

Thanks all. William was doing quite well today and seemed okay then this evening he was sick again trying to settle for bed

fidelma · 17/04/2010 21:01

Have a great day tomorrow. So sad that I wont be meeting you all but hugs from the Fidelma house.

Utterly exhausted Connor gave up on his good sleeping and was worse than a newborn.I think he has cut a tooth but FFS (sorry very tierd)

DH been off so we have had a lovely family week with great weather.

I haven't been on much as DD1 managed to turn the print on the lap top sideways and it was near impossible to read. Now fixed

We had a dinner party last night which went on until 2.30am tooooooo late. One family stayed with their 3 so it was bacon and eggs for 10 this morning and baby mush.

I am so exhausted that my head is hurting again. However I am going to squeeze in DR who with DH.It is pure lack of sleep.

I am slightly paranoid about the ash as we have dust on the car I haven't encourage the DC to play outside much over the past few days.Paranoid mummy !!!!
We have been swimming 3 times and at soft play.

Well DH needs me to watch TV so have some cake on me.Get better Ruby and HT and Mel I hope DD is feeling better

Wave to everyone eles.x

Scout19075 · 17/04/2010 21:06

Hi all. Quick message as I'm doing 20 things at once at the moment.

ruby Sorry to hear you're poorly. Big hugs for a speedy recovery.

Iggly Big hugs for William and hope he feels better soon.

princessmel Glad it sounds like your DD is slowly on the mend.

meetup Calypso and Bella I am very American looking. LOL. That probably doesn't help. I have long brown hair (which will probably be pulled up in a ponytail) and Seb will be in a mychoice4 w/MaxiCosi seat. Because we're so far away (Suffolk) and I'm making a day of it, I can't carry him in his kangeroo pouch all day or my back would be done in for a week.

I know we have done this meetup yet, but can suggest we plan another for early summer? Then maybe we can be outside somewhere with the kidlets, enjoying the sunshine and having a picnic.

Scout19075 · 17/04/2010 21:10

X-posts with fidelma Hope you're feeling better, too!

BellaCullen · 17/04/2010 21:28

xxx

CalypsoFramboise · 17/04/2010 21:34

Bella poor little Nathanial, hope he perks up soon, horrible having a temperature and a cold. See you again soon though

meetup so just Scout and I? Do you still want to meet Scout? It's only round the corner for me so its easy, but if you're going to have to trek in from the countryside, I understand if you'd want to postpone until another time! I'll facebook you my mobile number and leave it up to you if you want to reschedule - absolutely no offense taken

Hope all the ill people have restful night x

Scout19075 · 18/04/2010 08:07

Calypso I think, if you're sure you don't mind, we'll postpone our trip down. I can take advantage of the glorious weather up here (and save the £30 for a later trip) since there will be so few of us. I will wait until a more civilized hour to text you, but wanted to post here in case you were on-line early (like me).

I hope all of the poorly babies and mommies had some rest last night.

Igglybuff · 18/04/2010 11:01

Hi sorry to hear about the meet up especially as the weather is fab.

Let's get another date sorted asap.

William didnt sleep well last night but not been sick so fingers crossed.

scout whereabouts are you in suffolk? My DH's family come from Ipswich.

I hope everyone is feeling better soon.

littlepea72 · 19/04/2010 06:02

rubyslippers · 19/04/2010 08:04

aw - sorry the meet up didn't happen

would deffo be up for a meet though

am feeling a bit better thankfully

hope all the poorly babies are on the mend

I have my first sleep consultation tomorrow - am dreading it as i know whatever i have to do will involve less sleep than i currently get

will try to catch up later

have good days everyone

HappyTangerine · 19/04/2010 12:44

Sorry about the meet up not happening, will definately try to make another.DH had Friday off and we spent it in a wonderful local park that I've not been to before, gorgeous weather. Joe fed the ducks (good aim actually!) and went on the swings for the first time (with me) and loved it! Plus dh carried him so strain on my back was minimal-am having acupunture this week in an effort to halt the migraines and back pain, they care making day to day like a misery for me.

Hope everyone who was feeling rough is on the mend and the babies are feeling better.

princessmel Have been reading your baby carrier thread with interest as we also have the Baby Bjorn but its killing my back. I thought I was getting a solarweave connecta for summer but I really need the carrier to face front out so search continues. How is dd?

Iggly When you give the Plum range to William, how much do you give at a time? Whole sachet/pot or half/third?

I need some advice and feel a bit useless for asking. We had a v vv bad Saturday night with Joseph screaming with trapped wind for 3+ hours. He'd had 1/2 pack of Plum banana porridge in the morning and dh took him to his nana's for a few hours in the afternoon where it looks like he had some banana. Sat night - terrible, I couldn't get him to take cooled boiled water w sugar or the comfort of the breast. Poor little thing. Feel like I've massively lost my way with weaning now - its not too late to put it right is it? I want to start over but feel like I'm behind. I gave nothing but breastmilk yesterday although he took two mini chunks out of my toast yesterday morning and to my astonishment, swallowed them! Played a bit with some cucumber and carrot fingers (more interested in feeling/gumming/chucking on floor) then fed throughout the night. I've got baby rice, some Plum 4-grain baby porridge and some stage1 meat & veg jars - any suggestions for what I give him today? I can't make up any more purees until tonight. TIA

Sory that was so long, this new motherhood lark can be a bit of a minefield can't it? sending lots of love ant get well vibes to those who need them x

HappyTangerine · 19/04/2010 12:47

Gah-apologies for all the typos!

HumphreysCorner · 19/04/2010 13:38

Hi all, haven't been on for a few days as been having a dreaful time with my SIL and am still reeling from it.

Will catch up later.

HC
x

HappyTangerine · 19/04/2010 13:51

HC - Big hug, hope you're ok xx

rubyslippers · 19/04/2010 14:35

HC - hope all is well

HT - banana can bung babies up really badly - i used to really limit them when DS was a baby and Rubes hasn't really had any

WRT weaning Ruby has porride and toast fingers for breakfast. Lunch is generally veggies (pureed or whole) and cous cous with a dessert of fruit and rusk (pureed or whole)

Dinner is the same as lunch or fish, mashed potato and peas, pasta, beans, etc

she doesn't have snacks as she is still breastfeeding every 3 hours

Scout19075 · 19/04/2010 15:09

HC Big hugs.

HT I've only given Seb banana in the morning, and even then it's very little slivers. He'll take a sliver from the spoon and as he eating it give a wiggle/shiver and make faces, but if I hold it whole in front of him he dives in and gums it like he hasn't eaten in days. He's up to three meals a day now -- baby cereal and a bit of banana for breakfast, a fruit puree for lunch and a savory for dinner (like a sweet potato puree, or carrots or beans, though he doesn't like the green beans so much but I can mask them with the carrots). Sometimes I give him a jar for dinner for taste variety, but I have to be careful what because some of the thicker savory jars have made him windy, too. If it makes you feel any better, I feel like I'm struggling to give Seb variety of tastes. But as he's not six months yet (nine more days!) I'm hesitant to give him some other things I'm sure he'll like, like bits of pasta or creamy chicken. Today I've stocked up on carrots and apples because we're almost out of them in the freezer, and also bought an avacado to try (the last one I got was a nightmare, so going to try again!) and some broccoli and cauliflower to wiz (though think I'll give those in the day in case they give him wind). How is it that jars can come up with flavors like cauliflower cheese for a 4 month old if they're not meant to have dairy, etc? I just don't understand....

ruby Don't feel bad, Sebby's feeding the same way!

The HV said I could introduce water with meals to start getting him used to the cup for when I wean from BF to FF, but I can't tell if he cries with it because he's frustrated, doesn't like it (the cup and/or water), or is too thirsty to give it a proper go. How do you tell if babies want a drink because they're thirsty or a drink because they're hungry?

iggly I'm about 50 minutes from Ipswich. I live just over the Suffolk/Cambs border, about 15 miles from Cambridge.

How are all of the poorly babies and mommies?

I thought schools were meant to go back today? I was at Sainsbury and there were kids EVERYWHERE. Same with the High Street when I went to get Seb's meds.

Wiggly Sebby so be back later!

Scout19075 · 19/04/2010 15:25

Have just seen my favorite band has announced a UK tour (YAY!) and they have a date in Cambridge (double YAY!)! I think come September I will deserve a night out to wiggle my hips and sing along badly to my favorite songs.
