Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

littlepea I forgot to answer, I'm about 5'5". If it weren't for the dang scoliosis (a result of a major growth spurt after my heart was fixed) I'd probably be about 5'7". DH is more than a head taller than me and has to duck his head/bend a bit to rest his chin on the top of my head. Is very nice for hugs and cuddles and feeling protected (and reaching things on top shelves!).

littlepea72 · 24/03/2010 12:12

You have done well Scout, very calm, I dont know if i could of been. But i love the thought of a scan of Seb's heart, that I would treasure forever . 18 months isnt so long to wait, and Im 38, and if i could, I would have another one, so you never know, Im a great believer in fate, so you could end up with another couple!
If 6 months isnt enough for you to breastfeed, then continue with it, even if its only at night. I dont think its something you can put a time limit on.

Well im off to sunny Northern Ireland tomorrow, I cant wait!! Hope everyone enjoys their easter break, and i will enjoy reading about it when i get back!! Bye!! xx

fidelma · 24/03/2010 12:59

scout You have coped very well.Well done.

Littlepea I do have quite good energy but I do colapse into bed at night.I also power nap.I have just had 15mins and apart from my cold [sigh] I feel pretty good.

I had a big work meeting this morning (which I really enjoyed) My friend looked after the boys for me.

Connor awake

Scout-it was me that asked about the treatments. Crikey, you are doing well through such a worrying time. BTW I am 40 and haven't ruled out another baby.

DD1 was grabbed for a playdate tonight until 5pm. Better get my shopping put away before I fetch her.

We have had a huge breakthrough with bathtimes . With the help of two bath books and a bemused looking frog, Joseph splashed about for a good 10-15 mins in the bath last night and was even smiling when I got him out! Its the very first time bath-time has been without tears. So lovely to see him enjoying himself at last (little happy cry).

I have massively stepped up the tummy and bumbo time time to help strengthen the muscles on what I think is the weaker side of his neck and he's doing well-trying to crawl but the end result is a bit like a seal trying to move along on its tummy. Very funny to watch-he can go backwards a bit (much to his puzzlement and delight)but not forward(where the toys are). Seems much happier for trying. I forgot about the Bumbo poo-i won't forget again!

DH has had a small op on his neck today, removal of a sebaceous cyst. Its been sent off for testing but hopefully all is well-he's had it years and was getting a bit self conscious about it. Poor thing has a throbbing pain now and is struggling to fill in the application form from hell. Its for an internal post and he's been on it since yesterday-deadline 5pm today.

Jobs-I was in academic publishing, role was half editor, half sales management. I interviewed a lot of lecturers and divided my time between (mainly) London and the North-everywhere from LeedsManchester/N Wsles down as far as Sheffield & Nottingham.I don't miss all the driving! Not sure what to do next-Speech Therapy is a possibility or maybe even baby signing teacher as there aren't any in this area. First baby signing class Friday.
J waking, back soon x

fidelma · 24/03/2010 19:24

HT he sounds like he is thriving.Connor is happier with every day that passes.

HC I am laughing at the play date thing (I ended up with 3 extra children after school)They spent most of their time chasing our rabbit. The rabbit thinks it is a cat by the way

My mum has ended up in hospital tonight with low oxygen levels i am sure she will be ok (she is in the right place)

I haven't had her for a week now and I realise how much she helps me.

littlepea72 · 24/03/2010 19:52

Fidelma I hope your mum is ok

HT, when you get the results from your DH cyst?

rubyslippers · 24/03/2010 20:00

fidelma - hope your mum is ok

scout - phew! you are amazing. You have had a lot to contend with

HT - yay for calm bathtimes!

Iggly - for rubbish sleep

hc - i am still undecided about baby no 3 - am 35 in a couple of months so still have some time (whether i have the energy is another matter!)

So, weaning going a bit better today - she opened her mouth for some food and really enjoyed her avocado. She really likes self feeding

I think she is having a 6 month growth spurt - she is never going to sleep is she

hope everyone else is doing ok

weather is really good - so thankful to be able to be out and about (makes me feel less weary)

fidelma · 24/03/2010 20:27

Ruby Connor wakes 2 or 3 times a night has a quick feed and goes back to bed.So I am still having very disturbed sleep It wont last.

We often have musical beds in our house.Bad dreams, cold, feeling ill etc etc.Matbe I will get some sleep in 20 years time

Scout19075 · 24/03/2010 21:01

HT YAY for happy bathtimes! We love baths in our house. How is your DH feeling? And how are you feeling/coping?

fidelma How's your mum?

ruby Yay for happy weaning! for being unable to settle tonight. Must be the night -- Sebby was a challenge tonight, too.

all Regarding the heart and the other treatments, I don't think myself calm or brave or anything. I just crack on and do what I need to do. The heart thing, really, is nothing new and I don't usually think about it except when I get the appointment notices and on the day of the appointment. It was in the back of my mind during my pregnancy, hoping the heart would hold up, but I was reassured by LOADS of doctors that I would be okay -- and I was. I've had lots of follow-up, post-natal tests, and everything has remained as it was pre-pregnancy. However, I was anything but calm when I found out about the other. I was 35+ weeks pregnant, told I had this illness and then told that I'd have to have yet another appointment with a consultant because they'd want to get the baby out early rather than let it go to term as it was dangerous for it. At that point, probably more than any other in the 4+ years I had lived here, I wanted to go home and hide behind my mom. DH was (still is!) wonderful but I wanted Mom.

I gave Seb another bit of apple & banana porridge tonight. All of it went in and stayed in this time (no dribbling out) though he still made faces as it went in (onto his tongue and/or gums) and he moved it around. I offered it on a spoon and on my finger (to see if it got a different response). He grabbed my finger and shoved it in his mouth. Don't know if it was my finger or the porridge he wanted. Had a better night sleep last night than have had in almost two weeks, but don't know if it was Guides that wore him out or the baby porridge in his belly. We'll see how tonight goes!

(warning: Proud Mommy moment -- Seb had almost 5 minutes of solo sitting today. YAY!)

HappyTangerine · 24/03/2010 21:41

Well thats the end of the bumbo-Joseph has found a canny way to arch his back, make some startling head wobbles and flip out of it over the side. Luckily we were both there. He's terribly pleased with himself.. What comes after a bumbo?

DH has a bit of a headache but otherwise fine. He was in and out within 40 mins, walked there and back-all done under local anisthetic. I am one of life's pickers/squeezers and I was gutted I wasn't there to watch it be popped out. Am quite annoyed actually-dressing has to be changed in 72 hrs and none of the numbers we've been given are open. DH will have to go to A & E Saturday mmorning as the district nurses are swamped. He's got tickets to see Liverpool play at Anfield that day so not best pleased.

Just remembered someone asked about clothes-Joseph is in 3-6 month still, apart from some sleepsuits. I did try him in some 6-9 month jeans but it looks like he's wearing flares .

Fidelma-sending get well vibes to your mum, hope she's up and about again soon.

Littlepea-results due next month some time, they're not rushing. All lumps get tested. We're not concerned (not sure if we should be)-it's been there years. I was involved in medical publishing and one of the books I took round in 2008 had a section on dodgy lumps-scared me silly so I forced DH to go to doctors about it. GP said it was a cyst straight away when he saw it back then and the gp that did the surgery also said cyst. So hopefully all fine.

You sound like you are doing well with the weaning. Glad you have some sort of diagnosis re the autism and hopeefully things can get moving. My offer of the books is still there.

Twinkle Bella and HC* for the great weights.

Scout-you have done so well through all you have had to contend with. Seb's heart scan sounds wonderful, what a keepsake. Am 37 this year and would like more so don't rule out more-HC is inspiring me

Calypso-glad that you had such a good meeting re weight and have been reassured. Lovely Annelise is just following her own growth curve!

ruby and Iggly Sleep has deteriorated here as well [weeps]. Teeth, growth spurt, I don't know what the hell it is, only that I am going to have to prop my eyes open with little sticks if it carries on much longer. Our little pattern has gone out the window-naps no longer than 30 mins, night waking every 1.5 hrs. Its been like this since Sunday

princessmel How is Freddie's wheezing?

ruby-hope your referral comes through soon. I hated the green poo and was so relieved/excited when it cleared up.Fingers crossed for you.

Sorry to anyone I've missed-am on day 2 of a lack of sleep migraine, have been sick and am now watching Panorama and ranting at Nestle (again).

HappyTangerine · 24/03/2010 21:46

X-post - Scout Well done Seb! He's going to have a lot of new skills to show when he goes back to the US for Mother's Day 2!

fidelma · 24/03/2010 22:16

Mums home having had lots of tests. She has antibiotics but she needs to clear up her chest. They can't decide between a chest infection and or asthma. She didn't move for 3 hours today, slept sitting up holding a cup of tea for an hour. When I spoke to her she wasn't quite with it.She is now home and eatting fish and chips

Just finnishing the girls packed lunches then off to bed.x

HappyTangerine · 24/03/2010 23:05

fidelma (hug) You must be so happy to have your mum home. It sounds very much like me when I had my recent chest infection, I was pretty out of it for days. Antibiotics helped a lot and quickly. I have asthma and swimming has helped me manage it well.

rubyslippers · 25/03/2010 14:00

great news about your mum fidelma HT - no idea about what comes after a bumbo ... can he sit in a high chair? Ruby tends to slide to the side in hers but a towel wedged behind her seems to help

if he is that strong he will be sitting soon!

Ruby had some toast and a rice cake today - she can actually chew . Sleep appalling still

just walked back from pre school in the pouring rain so we are all wet and a bit miserable

hope everyone is doing ok

x

Scout19075 · 25/03/2010 21:32

Very random question -- how long has it taken for Aunt Flo to return post birth? And did it return to your "normal" or was it a bit wonky for a while? Keeping in mind I haven't actually had a visit since October 2008 I don't know if what I'm going through is normal or if I should be concerned and go to the doctor....

lixanismapolium · 25/03/2010 22:18

Scout My last one was Nov 2008 and it hadn't ocurred to me to be concerned yet ... pretty sure DD1 had her first birthday before it came back last time, so hoping I'll get that long again this time! Was completely normal and regular last time it returned.

rubyslippers · 26/03/2010 07:42

no periods for me yet

am still feeding DD so much i am not surprised TBH

haven't had a period since December 2008

bliss IMO!

Scout19075 · 26/03/2010 08:43

ruby Definitely bliss. I was always irregular (hence the no period since Oct 2008 but probably conceived in Feb 2009 cuz Seb was actually due in Nov) and I'm feeding like mad so didn't actually expect a visit...but I've taken to spotting brown the last day or two, so don't quite know what's going on.

HappyTangerine · 26/03/2010 09:31

Same as ruby, nothing since dec 08, utter bliss. Have heard they can come back pretty soon after bf stops-not looking forward to that!

Scout19075 · 26/03/2010 09:55

Can I BF forever, then? LOVE not having to carry a box of tampons everywhere I go cuz I never know when Aunt Flo will visit.

rubyslippers · 26/03/2010 10:06

not sure about forever but certainly for a lot longer

however, as breastfeeding decreases you will find your periods may well return and you can still ovulate!

Igglybuff · 26/03/2010 18:19

Just marking a spot quickly.

We're doing PUPD with William and it's horrible. Well DH is doing it and I'm sat here trying not to run in and rescue William.

Scout I've had some spotting which has been increasing over the months. Nothing major though.

Will catch up on posts and do some personals!

fidelma · 26/03/2010 19:08

iggly what is PUPD ?
No period for me since DEc 2008 bliss.
I am sure that mine normaly start after about 6 months so any time soon.

I am off out with the girls for dinner.I am taking Connor eith me as he has a cold and will need extra feeds.

I ended up teaching ballet yesterday as my cover teacher got stuck behind a jack knifed lorry.

I am ment to be getting ready but ended up on MN

Scout19075 · 26/03/2010 19:40

ruby I agree, Seb coming home from uni at aged 20 and looking for "Mommy Milk" might be a bit odd. But a few more months at least is a-okay by me!

iggly Is PUPD Pick Up Put Down? If so, I can feel your pain from here!

Went to the garden center yesterday and was sitting in the cafe bit waiting for my toastie and feeding Seb when a woman of a certain age came up to oggle him. When she realized I was feeding apologized for touching his head while he was eating. Then, when she realized I was actually nursing him put her arm around my shoulders and said "I'm not embarrassed -- are you embarrassed? It's a wonderful thing you're doing! You're doing a wonderful job and keep up the good work!" Then she kissed my head and tottled off. LOL I have to admit, in an odd sort of way, it made my day as I'm used to either being stared at like I have a blue head or people avoiding eye contact with me when I BF in public in the town I live in (the GC was not in the same town). Grant it, I'm not a touchy-feely person with people I don't know (friends are one thing, strangers are a whole other kettle of fish!) but there was something very sweet and touching in her hug and her words.

Friday night means cheesie tv (or a DVD) and Chinese take-away with DH. YAY!
