littlepea72 · 23/03/2010 06:47

Hey, havent had much time to read through everyones posts, will do that later. Hope you are all well.

Bella, Faith still looks like she is going to roll over, but doesnt. Everyone keeps telling me to make her with a toy, but honestly, i think she will do it herself when she is ready.

The weaning is coming along. But she wont eat anything i make! Why?? My DH bought some heinz mums own recipe jars, which i didnt want to give, but she loved them. I really dont understand. Im not going to complain to much as we have a long journey home, 2 days travel by car & boats, so at least the jars will come in handy, but after that, I will have to try again. She can only suck the food of the spoon like she is taking a bottle. But it has helped her so much. She is no longer crying throughout the day, and she is now sleeping for 12 a night, unless her teething kicks in. She must of been really hungry. Forgot how the nappies change, oh the smell of the poo now!

Question...how is everyone doing with clothes? I seem to buy Faith clothes, and they only last a couple of weeks before they are to small! We are now entering 9-12 months. My DS was long at this age, but he was always in clothes below his age, so this is strange for me.

The Paed Doctor has now made her diagnosis on my DS, she says its Childhood Autism, not sure what that is, but will see her in a months time. She has also contacted a doctor in London, he is flying out here to see us next month also. The end is in sight.

Scout19075 · 23/03/2010 07:58

Question -- do you give the food before or after milk feeds?

CalypsoFramboise · 23/03/2010 09:45

Morning all,

So trip to the paediatrian was a bit of an anticlimax in a good way! He took a quick look at her, me and DH and said - 'of course she's small, look at the 2 of you!' She's healthy it seems so no need to worry - phew! And I can at last not fret that I should have given formula, Paed seemed quite happy I was ebf Didn't even suggests any tests so no idea still why she's so vomitty, suppose she'll just grow out of it. Not going to stop me fretting completely though, I'm her mummy afterall, and it does bother me that she's still comfortably in 0-3month clothes at 6months!!

PM sorry to hear F is wheezing so much, must be awful to hear and not be able to help
And Big Yay for the improvement on nap-times- Annalise occassionally has the odd 2hr morning nap, but usually is a 30min napper!

Ruby & Iggly I completely empathise - Annalise was also waking every 2-3hrs but last night, I dived into bed at 9pm expecting to get woken for the 11pm feed and she next woke at 4am! Feel great today, have been so tired!
So don't lose hope, just out of the blue they may settle back down.

Iggly Annalise doesn't like to nap either, sometimes I have to take both of us out of the room as we both get so wound up, although I try really hard not to show it, it can be soooo frustrating when they just become inconsolably raging. I can't even kiss and cuddle her to calmness, just have to ride it out. Makes me fearful for tantrums when she's older! I know from endless SuperNanny-type shows that to get annoyed yourself is the worst thing to do, but I'm not feeling so chilled when its the millionth screaming tantrum at naptime...

scout I agree try weaning (and I offer solids c20mins after milk feed), sounds like he's ready, and he is big! If you're not sure about purees, Annalise is getting on well with fingers of fruit Also I think formula milk would be ok to mix with food if you can't express, it IS hard to get that much out! And {{HUGS}} its awful to feel sad and tired xx

littlepea hope the diagnosis leads to useful treatment for DS, its a good start x

Anymore for the London meetup? HT would love to meet you, and we're all friendly I'm sure! If you're in London longer but can't make that day, I could pop by for tea at some other time... FB my attendance!

HumphreysCorner · 23/03/2010 09:57

Morning all

HT-triplets??? Couldn't cope with twins! Yes, survived the Pie but I gave her the recipre yet it was nothing like. The carrots and mince were only 3 millimetres big and it had a string herb/flowery taste.

Scout-M days vary as this morning M had milk at 5am but none at 7am as he was asleep so had his porridge then milk after the school run. He will then have lunch and tea with feeds as and when. Sometimes he will eat just after a feed. The breakfast cereals I buy all need mixing with boiled water so no need for expressing. Will then use cows milk on Weetabix at approx 9 months. What medical treatments are you having? Apologies for being nosey. So pleased you get to book your flights, one step closer to going home.

Taking M for his 16 week jabs, only 10 weeks late. He still has a nasty cough but need the jabs doing so will say he is well when asked. This cough could go on for weeks, he has had it for a while now. Will see if weaning has increased his weight.

Lovely day, washing to do.

Big wave!

X-Posts.

Calypso-great news for you. My DD2 was and is teeny and followed between the 2nd and 9th centile. She is more robust than DD1 that followed the 75th centile.

ruby-sure Ruby will be fine.

Just a quick post re expressing enough for solids.
I'm sure it's ok to use cows milk in cooking from 6 months..that's what I was planning on doing rather than expressing. I don't know where my pump is, not used it since ds1 7 years ago! I'll check.

princessmel · 23/03/2010 10:35

www.kellymom.com/nutrition/milk/milk-supplements.html here...

Back in a bit...

princessmel · 23/03/2010 11:01

Calypso Fab news Similar happened to my friend but the other way round iykwim. Her dd was very tall and they scared the mum going on about the charts in the red book and so sent her dd for tests etc. She is over 6ft, the dad is very tall and so is their son and the gran. The doc said 'no wonder she's tall, you all are'!

scout if ds2 was waking /feeding as much as babyscout is I'd start food too. I am not doing it yet as he really seems to be ok on milk. In fact he's not drinking as much these days and never finishes a boob, even when he was teeny and fed for hours on one side there'd still be milk there!! I think he's drinking less due his cold Loads of sneezing etc and I'm sure there's a tooth coming.

jobs Someone asked what our jobs are. I don't have a job atm. But I am a trained nanny. I looked after a family of 3 boys for 12 years from when the youngest was 8 months to sept 08. In the end I only looked after the youngest and he used to come back here to my house as I had dd by then too. I was their full time nanny, then when the youngest started school I worked in a Nursery school in the mornings and nannied in the afternoons , full time nanny in the school hols.

clothes ds2 is mostly 3-6 month clothes. But yesterday I had to change him at the surgery after a 'leaky-up-out-the-back-nappy' and only had an 'up to 3m' babygro, and it fitted..only just though! He is in 3-6 m vests.

HC I invite the mums that are my friends iyswim, as otherwise we dont get a chance for a cuppa and a chat. I don't cook for the adults, just the kids. Today the mum coming is not my friend yet! She is farely new to the class but seems nice and I thought it would be nice for her to know the mums better. Also not sure her dd would have come here without her as she doesn't know me atall.
Sometimes I just have the kids, not the parents, whatever way is fine with me! I go to some playdates too though, to see and chat to my friend whilst the kids play. 6 children for dinner is noisy!

meet up I am not sure, it depends on dh. He is not a big London fan. He has to go for work and used to live there and just doesn't like going in his leisure time atall. Which is a shame as I always want to take the kids to museums, see the lights etc. maybe I can work on him. He could take the kids soemwhere while I come and see you When we go on sundays (the few rare times)we park in Harley St and walk..but that is prob nowhere near the meet up, right?!! (no idea of where anything is emoticon)

littlepea72 · 23/03/2010 11:12

Calypso, glad you got some answers . My friend has the most beautiful little girl called Hollie, she is 6 years old & wears 2 year old clothes. She is very small but there is no reason for this, its just her frame. Her mum & dad are also small. She is like a little fairy, but she is such a little fire cracker lol....My DS is almost 6 but is smaller than most of the 3-4 year olds in his class. I think now that you have seen the doctor & he has no worries, then you will now be able to relax more.

Took the papers into school with me, so they could see the diagnosis, they agree'd that at last it was in black & white, phoned the doctor to cancel appointment that was on the form (we are on holiday), to be told that Childrens autism is a code they use when they know a child has autism, but still trying to find out which type....but they had put it in the wrong place, it shouldnt of been anywhere near the diagnosis!
They also said when they seen what they had done, it was meant to be binned, but ended up being posted to me instead! I am not a happy bunny about it, i had looked it up on internet, and wasnt able to sleep last night as i was worried, god i need my holiday.

Im going to eat some cake!

littlepea72 · 23/03/2010 11:16

Ruby i hope little Rubes is ok

Scout19075 · 23/03/2010 11:16

Just a quick update (and a promise to post more later) -- Sebby didn't seem to want the spoon, but not sure if he was too hungry and just wanted to eat or what. But after he had some milk I gave him a couple of fingers of rice and I can't tell if he liked it or not. LOL He didn't spit it out or move away, but he did dibble some out. Normally if I stick a finger in his mouth (like when I'm rubbing his gums or putting Bonjela on) he grabs my hand to suck/chew it. He didn't do that, but he did look at it like "What's that on your finger?" Hehe. I didn't force it. Will try again later tonight.

And ten weening spoons of milk isn't nearly as much as I thought it would be. I managed to express 1.5 oz last night without much effort and thought "No way is that enough" but I've gotten two bowls of rice out of it and still have milk in the pot for tonight/tomorrow (whenever I try again).

HumphreysCorner · 23/03/2010 11:55

Scout-none of mine liked the plain baby rice as it is tasteless that is why I buy one with fruit in it or creamy porridge and you can mix with water.

HC
x

Scout19075 · 23/03/2010 11:57

I have some porridge, too, but thought I'd start w/rice. Maybe I should try the porridge tonight instead of rice....

HumphreysCorner · 23/03/2010 12:09

I would do that. Matthew's first taste was this and he loved it.

HC
x

HumphreysCorner · 23/03/2010 16:34

Had Matthew weighed before his jabs and he has gained a whole pound so now 15lb 11oz at 24 weeks-hurrah! Back on the 25th centile. His chesty cough is getting worse though poor lad.

HC I weighed Amelie on Monday, she was 15lb10

scout Amelie loves the baby porridge, tis her favourite

ruby hope little ruby is ok, i'm sure everything will be fine.

calypso so glad the appointment went well.

littlepea hope you get some clearer answers soon about you ds.

Amelie manage to sit up unsupported for about 5 mins today

I am finding 3-6mth clothes are still fine on her and she can still get into some 0-3mth stuff, although she is wearing some 6-9mth pyjamas which seem to fit ok... sizes vary so much!

Can't remember who was asking but I was a Primary teacher in a past life and before that did a few years as a social worker... seems like a lifetime away! I'm looking in to doing a 'returning to teaching' course in the near future, will probably start back doing a bit of supply in a year or so.

Humphrey and twinkle good weight gain for your little ones.
Nathaniel was 12lbs14.5ozs last monday, hopefully will be 13lbs now.He still fits in some 0-3 months clothes but also in 3-6 months it definitely depends on the type of cloth and where its from.

Calypso glad the appointment went so well.Glad that it has put your mind at rest and reassured you to ebf for longer.Ignore your mum bm is best for your baby and your body will give her the right amount and perfect nutrition tailord just for her needs. And don`t worry about clothes sizes Nathaniel still fits in some 0-3 months clothes but also in 3-6 months it definitely depends on the type of clothes and where its from. Also look at weight and height on it rather than age.

Scout sounds like you should start weaning. And aggree baby rice is bland porridge sounds better.Nathaniel still only has one side and doesnt drain it all. Also he gets very distracted now and its hard to get him to drink for long.Thats probably why he still drinks every 2-3 hours.Last night he was up every hour, whereas night before only once.Always one good night versus 5 bad.

Littlepea agree that they will do things only when they want.DD started cruising along furniture at 10 months but took till 14 months to actually walk by herself.Regarding food have you put some herbs with it?DS1 first preffered jar food to my cooking then I added herbs and he loved it.DD never liked jar always loved my cooking.
Nathaniel had a bit of pasta tonight and sucked on a piece of pepper.Really like trying BLW and just giving him anything to ry when we eat.

princessmel yes its ok to use cows milk to mix with food just not as a drink.I was a nanny too when I had just DS1.Then after dd started chidminding and will start after May again.

HT I have to rock him to sleep to get him into cot, wish he would feed to sleep but only does this during night. The rocking can get a bit too much for him sometimes and he just wants to lie down in bed and go to sleep by himself, quite rare though.

Managed to go swimming for 20 lengths yesterday my whole body aching today am so unfit.Am desperate to lose some weight will try to go again tomorrow.
xx

Igglybuff · 23/03/2010 19:45

Hey all!

calypso glad to hear it's not just me re naps. It's so frustrating, especially as it's obvious he's tired and has been moaning about being tired for ages!

ruby I hope the paediatrician can help.

scout I think you give milk before solids so that they don't fill up on solids. However Wiliam does not follow any kind of schedule, generally feeding before a nap. So I give him bits of food between feeds. I'm not introducing proper meals just yet - he's just playing. He loved cucumber today. Nice and cold on the gums

clothes W is fitting 6-9 months so we've got to get the next size up before it gets too small! But, agree that sizes vary so much. I also dont trust mothercare anymore - I bought some 6-9 month vests and they are the same size as the 3-6 month ones (I checked about three times in confusion).

twinkle well done Amelie!

jobs - well I'm an accountant (going back to work in September/Oct BOO HISS). I've found motherhood so hard which has been a challenge to say the least given how easy (ish) I found work!

princess meet up is near charing cross station/embankment/traf sq - south of the river. Probably about 20-30 mins walk I think.

William's sleep is terrible at the moment so we're thinking of sleep training with a bit of pick up put down. Not sure I can face it. We were going to try tonight but I have a funeral tomorrow so I decided not the best idea.......... Currently I feed William to sleep but he wakes up so much in between feeds it's depressing. He has forgotten how to self settle (I know he can do it as he has before) and it's been weeks now so I can't see any other way! I'm surviving on a handful of snatched hours a night and it's killing me!

Now off to bed

littlepea72 · 23/03/2010 21:02

Iggly, big hugs from me, catch what sleep you can, it will get better

20 lengths! Bella I so wish i could swim like that, well done you Will try the herbs, its not that i have anything against using the jars, but i would rather make the food myself. Lovely vision of Nathaniel eating his pasta & sucking on pepper!

HC, Twinkle & Bella, great weights for your little ones

fidelma · 23/03/2010 21:53

Evening all

I was a ballet dancer in a past life I now teach. You can send me all your petite children and I will turn them into ballet dancers (on the other hand keep them away from me !!!)

Connor likes tasty food.Tonight he had
parsnip with mixed veg brochli, carrot and cauliflower.pear for pudding.

I sometimes give him milk first and sometimes milk afterwards it just depends.

I wish I could make the meet up but sadly not this time.

HT I can do Edinburgh any day in May except the 29th and 30th.Can anyone eles make Edinburgh ?

curlimum · 23/03/2010 22:10

hi all, i fell off MN for a while...but im enjoying reading all your posts from the last few days

HT i like the sound of your chilli chocolate cake. i made some brownies this evening - main ingredient red kidney beans!! extremely good though

scout hope the weaning is getting better. i know what you mean about expressing...i would have tried baby rice a lot more, but i just cant be bothered to dig the pump out! Ro might end up being fed entirely on mashed banana (the easiest thing to make)

got to go sleep now [yawn] looking forward to reading more later

Scout19075 · 23/03/2010 23:16

Jobs I'm a (Pennsylvania) certified teacher (two degrees one in ECH and the other in ELED) but haven't actually taught in about 11 years. I spent six years in Private Label Food Marketing. And since I've made the decision to move to England I've floated job/career wise a manager in a cash office (my temporary job while preparing for my move), customer services in a major publishing house and now admin in an accountancy firm. Next job -- SAHM.

Clothes Seb's in a variety of clothes. Some are 3-6 months, some say 6 months, some say 9 months, some say 6-12 months. And even some of the 6-12 month ones I don't think we'll get much wear out of. I wouldn't say he's a big baby -- he's 14 lbs 9 oz (two weeks running at that weight) at 21 weeks (tomorrow). He looks long. I had him measured the other week and even though they said it wouldn't be 100% accurated because of his froglegs (which, apparently, is why babies aren't measured when they're born here) he came around 25"-26" and when plotted on his chart was at the 50 percentile. So perfectly average. HV that did the measuring at the clinic also liked the fact that his weight and height "matched perfectly". But, to be honest, he looks and feels long. Even in utero he was long and thin (couldn't get in the proper head down position because I wasn't long enough for him to do so). Hubby is 6'5" (all of his siblings are 5'10" or 6', parents are about 6' and I have a relative that was 6'6").

Tried apple & banana porridge tonight. Seb kept biting his lower lip (which he's recently started to do) and making faces. I gave him some by spoon and some by finger. I don't know if the faces were he didn't like it or if he was trying to figure it out or what. Think he makes the same faces at Calpol, Bonjela and used to with his Gaviscon (but is used to it now and don't wince/make faces/fight it).

I can't remember who asked about treatments. Well, it's a long story and won't go into too much detail. But this particular treatment is for a blood disorder that was only discovered during pregnancy. I have a heart condition that I was born with and while pregnant had loads of extra appointments, scans, etc. I found out about this recent development about three weeks before Seb was due. Because of my heart condition I had a very detailed birth plan. And then, as a result of this new diagnosis and my heart condition, they decided to induce 10 days early and get Seb out in a way that they could control (still ended up having a c-section because he just wasn't ready to come out and I wasn't allowed to push for more than one hour). All should be fine and treatment has 90% success rate (so good odds!) but is fetal toxic, so can't be breastfeeding and can't get pregnant.

fidelma Do the children need to be petite? Though I have a YL that does Irish dancing (and she's 6' and looks so graceful) and has asked if she can teach Seb to do it when he's bigger.

Bella Seb's very distractable, too. I've taken to using a big blanket (or my fleece if we're out) just to try to get him to pay a bit of attention to the boob at hand. But at night, when it's dark, he's got a one track mind -- MILK!

twinkle Yay Amelie for sitting!

ruby Fingers crossed for little Ruby. Do you have to wait long for your appointment?

Apologies to anyone I have missed (have had trouble keeping up yesterday/today) and for rambling on. Off to make Sebby's medicine for overnight and tomorrow then and then up to bed. DH is away overnight so get the covers all to myself.

littlepea72 · 24/03/2010 05:39

Scout just read about your condition, goodness me thats alot to take in when your pregnant. Did you ever fear for Seb when you were carrying him, or was it quite straight forward? I hope you dont mind me asking. As for the treatment, does that mean you wont be able to have more children, or just not get pregnant while you are having treatment? You have been through alot, when does the treatment start? Sorry for all these questions
at your DH height! What height are you?

Hi Curlimum!

As for jobs, I was a Pharmacy Tech for 12 years, but i wanted something differnt, so for the last 3 years ive worked at a cattery. Very different job lol, but i like working with cats more than people . Its a 5 star cat hotel, were they come for their wee holidays, i love it. Cant wait to move back home, my job is waiting for me

Wondering what has happened to Smallone??

Fidelma, you have so much energy! Pass some my way please!!!

Scout19075 · 24/03/2010 08:41

Hi littlepea! No worries about the questions, they don't bother me! The heart thing is something I was born with so am quite used to dealing with. I had surgery to correct it as a child (about three weeks before I turned 10, on the opening day of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles). I still see a cardiologist once a year for checks to make sure the fix is still working, etc. Will probably need another operation to repair the repair, but again, I've always known that's a possibility so that doesn't bother me. But yes, I did worry about Seb (I didn't know he was Seb at the time as we chose not to find out his gender) having it though I knew logically it was a slim chance since my problems were/are developmental not genetic. I had an additional scan or two on Seb and his heart they spent 20 minutes on just examining his heart and the blood flow to all of his organs. That was a cool scan, actually, because not only could I see and hear the heartbeat, but we looked at the four chambers, the arteries, etc. (The sonographer gave me a scan photo of just his heart showing the four chambers and I treasure that picture as much as the ones showing his whole skelton and my 3D scan photos.) The paed after his birth didn't detect a murmer so postponed his ECHO until he's six months old it's just a double check, really, but I'm confident he's fine since he's not showing any of the signs/problems I had as an infant (for one, I was still my birthweight at 6 months old).

As for the blood thing, THAT was a lot to swallow at 35 weeks pregnant. It wasn't until I met with the specialist post birth that I began to relax/calm down a bit. It's still not nice, but can be dealt with. They'll check Seb for that when he's a year old but the doctors are fairly sure he doesn't have it. It means I can't get pregnant during the treatments as it's toxic and could/would kill the baby. If for some rare reason it didn't kill it, the poor little thing would be horribly damaged. Treatment is a year long but can't/shouldn't get pregnant for 18 months at least. So, at 36 this year I'm thinking Sebby's my only baby. I can start treatment whenever -- I'm to call them when I'm finished nursing and the doctor will set up my schedule and get me started. I originally said it would probably be summer, but I'm thinking now I'll wait until the autumn because I'd like to nurse as long as I can (and six months just doesn't feel like long enough to me any more).

Sorry for the long reply to short questions!

Hope you (and everyone!) have a good Wednesday!
