How often does it happen HT ? Is it with every single breath or just sometimes? Head bobbing is what the ambulance men told me was one of the signs of ds2 struggling to breathe. BUT if it's every now and again I'd say it's just him being tired. For example if he's been playing for a while then gets tired he might drop his head a few times. Remember he has spent most of his time up until now lying down on his back or being held by you etc. so doing actual playing must tire them out!!

If your worried though ask the hv next time you go.

HappyTangerine · 21/03/2010 12:07

Hi Mel and thanks for replying
Its just sometimes. Happened a few times yesterday not long after he woke from a nap and when he was in a proper sitting up position and a few other odd times yesterday. Then once or twice this morning followed by about 6 on and off in a short space of time with some eye rubbing. I just thought it was a tiredness "tell" and a sign that he's learning head control in this new independant sitting position but at 1 in the morning, my paranoid mother scared the crap out of me. His eyes aren't showing any sign of a tic or of being spaced out when he does it. I even wondered if it was related to his teething. DH said he did it Wednesday shortly before his morning nap.

princessmel · 21/03/2010 12:37

ds2 does it I'm sure. I can be holding him in an upright position and he'll suddenly lose control of his head and it will bash my shoulder! ouch!

Hi btw

BellaCullen · 21/03/2010 13:47

Thanks for all the reassuring answers am feeling loads better today,am sure hel start rolling soon.Hes nearly sitting up so that`s good.

HT am sure the head bobbing is normal theyre still little and still dont have perfect head control all the time especially when tired. You should tell your mum not to google any symptoms as you always get worst cases coming up.And don`t listen to her if she does.

Nathaniel sleeping on my lap now he looks so sweet love him soo much.
DD got a party later, she has better social life than me sometimes .
Spring seems to be here, now managed to dry clothes everyday last week outside and its sunny today again.Enjoy the sunshine x

HappyTangerine · 21/03/2010 14:33

Thanks Bella. He pretty much always only does it with DH as well, we just realised that this morning. Feeling a bit better now and won't be chatting to my mum today. Kind of ruined my night out though.

Rolling - apart from a roll at 12 weeks and a recent half arsed half roll, Joseph has shown zero interest in rolling. He just wants to stand all the time. Bumbo has helped us with the sitting. That and some soft blocks-I sit on the floor with him either on the floor or in his ring and stack 4 of the blocks on top of each other. His head slowly comes up, he holds it there while he devises his plan of attack and then either swipes them over or does a bum shuffle and little kick .

Love to all - Will write more later, seem to have stream of visitors today x

HumphreysCorner · 21/03/2010 17:42

fidelma-you are a girl after my own heart as I detest play dates, find the parties very tedious and feel pressurised to do parties for DD1 every year but am not going to do one this year. Not every child has one. Always do a family get together as it is the family that needs to be there surely. Do your DC get playdate invites and if so and they go do you ever return the invite?

HT-Matthew headbuts me occasionally but he prefers to headbang from side to side with his tongue hanging out.

MIL gave me a Shepherds/Cottage (the one with mincemeat in it) pie which she made Tuesday and I froze it Thursday then defrosted it today. Thing is it was still frozen in the middle at 4pm so put it in the oven on the defrost setting and at just after 5pm it was defrosted so am now cooking it. If you never hear from me again then it is because the pie has poisoned us.

Laters (hopefully )

Through food poisoning and not because MIL made it of course.

hc I turn down alot of play dates.(mean mummy)I do find that the play dates ease off as they get older. (or perhaps everyone has given up on me) They see their friends at school and I want them to play with each other at home.

devils that is great sleeping grin ht I hope you are feeling better.Connors head also does that.

My back hurts from carrying Connor around.sad

CalypsoFramboise · 21/03/2010 20:43

Evening

Bella Empathy back regarding Nathaniel also taking his time to pile on the pounds Also don't worry about sitting and rolling - Annalise hasn't sat again really, and has only rolled 2 or 3 times. Also my friend's 8 month old does not roll at all but has started walking so there's no reason to feel concerned I'm sure And well done on the ebf until 1 year - I'm having so much pressure to drop bf and go to formula- even my mum says my milk must be 'sub-standard' and thinks I'm being pointlessly willful about ebf... She thinks that the paediatritian should 'test my milk' tomorrow, I don't think they do such things surely, no-one has done this no?

HT sorry to hear you had a bad chest infection, they are awful and I imagine horrendous with a baby to look after. Don't know about the head bobbing thing, Dr Google is VERY unreliable , your gut instinct sounds right though about head control, but chat to HV as PM suggested if still worried x

DA lucky lucky you about the long nights, Annalise has started to wake all the time, every 2 hours sometimes but I can get away with feeding her only every 3-4 hrs during the night still knackering though, worse than when she was newborn! She doesn't seem to be taking to weaning so great so far although some of the porrige went down ok this morning and she gnawed on a bit of ciabatta at lunch - only thought afterwards about the gluten/wheat thing...?

Last 2 weeks of maternity leave before I start back on my PhD and I really mean

princessmel · 21/03/2010 21:02

cough cough cough cough

Karvol, raised bed....

twinklegreen · 22/03/2010 07:44

calypso they won't test your milk
Can't believe some of you are nearing the end of maternity leave, it's gone so quickly!
devils well done Charlie sleeping through again (Amelie wakes once during the night at the moment)
HT I agree with the others, head bobbing sounds normal to me. Sorry to here you've been ill.
bella I'm ashmatic so I avoid dairy until 8 months, I'm sure that if they are going to get these things they will get them anyway though, but at least I've tried my best! I've also found that ebf get's ALOT easier and less time consuming after 6mths/weaning, I'm usually only feeding about 3 times a day by 8mths and once a day by 10mths.
Amelie has only rolled once, she can sit for about 30 seconds unsupported, but it depends what mood she's in. She was also not really bothered about food until about three days ago and now she is suddenly wolfing everything down they all do everything in their own time. My dd1 and ds hit all their milestones at completely different ages.

morning all

i don't want to think about going back to work yet - i can't believe i went back to work around this time with DS

weaning is going very slooooooowly

Rubes isn't keen on banana so all the banana porridge is going in the bin

she likes gnawing on a rusk - will make some porridge pancakes at some point

She is still rubbish at sleeping! fed at 9.40 pm, 1.05 am, 4.30 am and up for the day at 7 ish

weather glorious here - hope everyone is ok xx

Igglybuff · 22/03/2010 11:50

Morning!

ruby may I join you in the crying? William's sleep (day and night) has gone completely to pot. It started off missing afternoon naps, then a couple of lunchtime ones and getting him to sleep takes about 2 hours...... I'm so frustrated! I think it's partlt developmental as he's trying to crawl but partly overtiredness......

Anyway time to try and get him to sleep after trying and failing already. I had to take a break as got wound up.

I'll have a proper read of the posts later

princessmel · 22/03/2010 12:08

Hi all
Just been to the docs with ds2 about his very noisy breathing/wheezing. He's been given an inhaler and spacer device (just like ds1 and dd). He's also been coughing and choking on his feeds all weekend. She said his chest is clear of any infection, so all the noise/wet/fluid/mucous sounding breathing etc is just still following on from the bronchiolitis.

We saw the doctor who sent us to hospital (when he was admitted) and she said that she had spoken to the other dr who sent him in the first time (when he was sent back home)and they were not happy that he was sent home by A+E. They think we were treated badly and that he should have been kept in the first time. Oh well , nothing can come be changed now! She also said how gorgeous he was All the doctors say that to him, it's so nice to hear!!

Ruby those wakes don't sound too bad...remember how many times she was waking before. PMA remember!!
And sometimes ds2 is similar ish. Eg he'll cluster feed 7 till 8/8.30/9 then sometimes wake at 1 or 2 but then again at 4ish and sometimes have an annoying awake time then..then go back off again till 7 ish.
On the other hand sometimes he'll wake at 2 or 3 and not wake till morning. It's different every night.

day naps ...can I have a little 'Horray!!!' for ds2?!! He is getting better with his naps. He's gone from always only sleeping for 30 mins to the second!!...to a 1 hour 10 mins twice last week, then a 1 hour 30mins on sat and a wopping 1 hour 45mins on sunday
It was lovely! I could look at wallpaper choices online with dh and the dc's and do the dc's reading

We had a nice day on sunday, dh took ds1 and dd swimming in the morning and then we all went to the farm in the afternoon, in the sunshine

calypso good luck at the hospital

playdates I do do these. ds1 and dd LOVE them! This week dd has a friend round(and the mum and her other baby dd) on tuesday and ds1 is going to his friends on thursday (while dd is at an activity)

It was nice and sunny earlier but is windy and chilly now. brrr!

HumphreysCorner · 22/03/2010 14:01

Ruby-Matthew woke 3 times again last night so sympathise.

princessmel-well done on his naps. Hope his breathing improves. Lordy, do you really have other mums around on playdates? Do you do tea for them too? I must be mean as I love to have a family tea and watch my girls play together and not entertain other children.

Got to collect DD2 from nursery and M has fallen asleep while feeding. Oh, and it is wet and windy.

Big wave to all!

Oh it's quiet on here tonight.I must get a life !!!!!

Scout19075 · 22/03/2010 21:06

Hi fidelma!

Scout19075 · 22/03/2010 21:29

Feeling a bit melancholy (sp?) this evening.

Want to go to bed but DH won't get in until 10 p.m. tonight and I'd like to see him today since he's going on an overnight work trip tomorrow so won't see him again until Wednesday night.

Had a Mother's Day present yesterday -- seems my DH ordered something from the States for me and it got stuck in customs so he didn't have it for me on Mother's Day. Was a very nice surprise. Still can't wait to celebrate again in the States with my mom.

How is everyone feeling? Are all of the poorly babies and mommies on the mend?

fidelma · 22/03/2010 21:33

Connor is much better and as a result is comming on leaps and bounds.I was readding my old Anable Carmel weanning book and am now quite excited about the next 3 months of food.

How many milk feeds do your little ones have a day ?

Scout19075 · 22/03/2010 21:46

fidelma Feeds right now too many to count! Have come to the realization over the weekend that what I thought was a four month growth spurt is probably Sebby not getting enough. He aggressively goes for one breast, drains it, goes for the other, drains that one and still wants more. He's getting grizzly because he's always looking for food and not finding it (?). Feels like he's always on my boobs again, like when he was a newbie. And yesterday's grabbing of the spoon and shoving it towards the bowl of ice cream and then into his mouth (didn't get any of the goodies) was yet another sign that he needs more. Went today for a box of baby rice and baby porriage (sp) and will express after his first night feed for milk for the baby rice. Nights have regressed he's up at least 5 times in the night -- actively draining both breasts in 10 minutes flat. Fortunately he goes back to sleep quickly/easily but is up again within 1 to 2 hours. His longest sleep used to be 4-6 hours and now I'm lucky if it's 2 1/2-3. It's all exhausting. DH leaves at (the latest) 6:30 a.m. and doesn't get home (at the earlies) until 8:00 p.m., so is difficult to catch up on any sleep and sometimes even to go for a wee or a drink.

sigh

Apologies for the downer post -- just feeling a bit blah and overwhelmed and a bit sad about it all.

fidelma · 22/03/2010 22:13

Give him some food.Connor is having 3 meals a day and I am about to introduce chicken !!!!It is making a huge difference to him.

You must be exhausted.(sending you a hug and a strawberry bon bon)

HappyTangerine · 22/03/2010 23:02

Thanks for all the little ressurance about my little wobble head. He's been doing it on me quite a bit today, always when turning head right to left - i think the muscles are weaker the left side. Its a good marker of when he's tired. I'm trying not to stress about it but my mum keeps asking. There's so much going on with him at the moment-I put him on the floor (sitting) with his blocks and he tips himself over to one side and tries to move but can't yet. God help us when he starts crawling

We went to baby massage and Joseph was the only one who didn't protest about being on his front so that was nice for us. He soon made up for it when we went back onto legs and torso though! Dealt with the yelling/crying much better this time and at the end even joined the under ones group for some singing.

Calypso There is nothing wrong with your milk. Hope you are feeling better after the d&v. How did it go at hospital? You really have had it tough lately with the weight worries, I hope you get some answers soon.

ruby sorry to hear the sleep is still tough-does your sleep consultant do a follow up?

fidelma All sounds v exciting re Royal Ballet! You're putting me to shame with the weaning . I feel a bit out of my depth but am booked on a 2hr weaning course next Tuesday. Milk feeds - I generally feed every 3 hours but Joseph is usually wanting more after 2 hrs. And that includes in the night-benefits/perils of co-sleeping. He has a dreamfeed at 11ish and then another at around 3.30am then 6am - this is all led by him, I don't make a point of putting him on. He just seems to latch on and feed in his sleep at the same times each night.

princessmel Hooray for ds2 naps! Hope the inhalers can help the wheezing clear up.

Gotta go, J waking up-back in a bit x

Scout19075 · 22/03/2010 23:08

Thanks fidelma. (Did you get some cake from Friday? If not, I still have some you're welcome to....)

Yes, food is on the cards for tomorrow. Well, starting with baby rice and then will start some BLW type foods like toast, banana, cucumber, etc. He really seemed taken by the spoon and kept trying to get it in his mouth yesterday. Have pictures was very funny and cute at the same time. But was reading the box of rice and says to mix with 10 spoons of baby's normal milk which means expressing enough in-between feeds. ACK! I had thought that at 26 weeks I'd start switching from BF to FF I want to make sure he's weaned off me and still allow myself a month or two "to myself" before starting my medical treatments in late summer -- and was going to start stock-piling breast milk at 5 months (this coming weekend). So now am faced with a very hungry baby, stock-piling breastmilk for future use AND expressing enough to start feeding him rice and porridge and other good stuff.

BUT, on a positive (cuz I always try to look at the positive, even in my meloncholy state), I have a plan of a bin bag on the floor, Sebby stripped down and in his bumbo, and me sitting on the floor with him and "playing" with food. I'm hoping it leads to a fun day tomorrow and a happy baby. Will have my camera at the ready to send pictures to his Grandmom and Grandpa in the States.

(One more positive -- tonight we're looking at and booking the flights home for US Mother's Day in May. YAY!!!)

HappyTangerine · 22/03/2010 23:30

HC You survived the cottage pie! Sending lots of "sleep through the night" vibes to you and Matthew. I had a mumsnet dream last night that you told us all you were pg again and expecting triplets! Ties in nicely with the lectures you've been getting about baby no4

Scout Hope you are feeling better now and are fast asleep...if not, have some chilli chocolate cake I made earlier. It is one of my experimental numbers [chuck it all into a pot and pray] but tastes quite nice. Anyone else for cake?! I made loads

Curli hello!

Bella Well done on Nathaniel starting the night in the cot-I still haven't managed this.

Iggly Belated answer to your poo question- Joseph goes after almost every 3hr feed. He's always done that-when he didn't I knew something was wrong and lo and behold a few hours later I'm diagnosed with mastitis.

ruby Gorgeous pics!

Am furiosly trying to juglle things/twist dh's arm about London on the 18th because I'm really looking forward to meeting you all. Warning - am a bit shy socially in real life - thats what happens when you're the only woman working in a team of men for 4 years, living on the motorways. Which reminds me - fidelma what dates are good/bad for you in May?

Can't believe I'm not going back to work, feels really strange. What do you all do job-wise-I forget. Will definately miss the money maternity allowance ending soon. Best get working on that blockbuster novel...

HappyTangerine · 22/03/2010 23:34

Scoutlol, I thought exactly the same thing about the lovely Plum Organics baby porridge which says 50ml of water and 50ml of baby's usual milk - don't these people know how long it can take to express 50ml!
