This was the only thing I could remember some saying should be the next title!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LadyThompson · 18/02/2010 21:06

Well, DD has been 25th all the way through - haven't had her weighed recently but need to as pretty certain she will have slipped a way below that with all the hunger strikes.

Hi Verso, glad to hear things are good. So what's afoot?

Turniphead1 · 18/02/2010 21:38

Bookmarking in vain hope of keeping with you all. Congrats to ladyT and Summer! Daisy I am so sorry that i didn't get on to last thread to pass my condolences about your dear MiL. Hope your DH is bearin up.

Veggiemummy · 18/02/2010 21:40

Actually Rubs I've been thinking I don't do as much with DS2 as I did with DS1. I decided I need to get him to the pool more. DS1 & I used to go everyweek and while I was pregnant DH took him as he was usually home on a Friday so that became their session. I have to say I was a bit crap with swimming lessons because they were always at stupid times like 4.30pm or midday, usually during sleep times. We got a book put out by an Australian group about teaching children to swim and we follow that...loosely. DS1 can paddle about quite happily with out floats and is learning some strokes. However over here they have to wear water wings for recreational swimming so it's a bit of a pain for his learning.

LadyThompson · 18/02/2010 21:43

Turnip, you also need to congratulate Beans and Rubena (I think Rubes was called something different when you were last here, so I will leave her to elaborate)

Rubena · 18/02/2010 22:04

Wow hello Turnip I was pmk1 before. I must confess I've lurked all over the wider Mumsnet and seen you on the other threads so got a bit worried that we had offended you at some point as you never came back to us. Nice to see you even if it is every second thread

Beans I think ds is 25th last time but I haven't had him weighed in ages - well I know he is roughly just under 11kg but I don't know where that stands on those silly charts! he's not on a hunger strike but seems to be dieting - or rather I think his appetite has just dropped off as at least he's eating most of his 3 meals just not all of it - but then maybe i'm giving him too much? What sort of portions size should they be eating at this age?
Oh and I will continue with the 1 nap and see how it goes I think beans.

LadyThompson · 18/02/2010 22:12

Rubes, there's another poster called Turnip something who posts quite a lot - you may actually be thinking of her

I am watching the gipsy wedding show on Channel 4 + 1. Wow, some of the wedding dresses weigh up to 27 stone. Yikes!

Rubena · 18/02/2010 22:41

Nope it's def our Turniphead1! As long as we didn't offend that's all that matters - people don't have to stay

Aubergines · 19/02/2010 07:43

Wow, two blasts from the past! Hi Turnip and Verso. How lovely to hear from you both. Please tell us your news and keep popping in from time to tine. We don't mind if you miss personals, it's just nice to know you are still about (in case you are confused, I used to be another vegtable beginning with A).

The nightmare photoshoot looms this morning. Westfield was a nightmare last night. I basically arrived, spent 30 mins browsing and sulking that skinny jeans and sloutchy tunics are STILL in fashion. Finally decided resistance was futile and tried on my first ever pair of skinny jeans. Was horrified my reflection in mirror but convinced myself that with long tunic top and knee high boots, little jean would actually be seen, and at least I would not look mumsy. Tried on some tunic tops and found the strange fashion for knotted/slitted designs meant by boobs kept poking out of odd places. Paniced as had promised DH I would be home in time for dinner. Paniced some more and bought only tunic top that contained boobs. Decided a new bra was in order. Died with embarrassment in Rigby & Peller as they measure boobs by looking at them and mine are withered and covered in DD2 scratches. Ran about looking for knee high boots to cover afore mentioned monstrous jeans. Couldn't find the right pair. Nearly cried as was late. Abandoned skinny jeans idea and decided to return them. Grabbed a pair of flared jeans off rail at French Connection. Didn't have time to try them on but in moment of craziness bought them anyway. Arrived home late and totally stressed.

So I am off to get dressed into mystery jeans. Wish me luck.

EffiePerine · 19/02/2010 08:31

Oh dea Aub, that sounds like my shopping trips! I did get a pair of skinnies, but am refusing to look at my arse in them and am wearing them with decently long tops. Hope the photoshoot goes well today .

Turnip and Verso: lovely to see you both .

We have people over for dinner tomorrow night, fairly new acquantances (at least for me) and the house is DISGUSTING. I will be scrubbing all evening and most of tomorrow, I fear. At least I am at work and can't see it for the time being...

Veggie: your swim sounds lovely, I haven't managed to take either of the boy swimming, it just seems like such a feat! Maybe we'll try anf go together one weekend. Have always been a bit put off by baby swimming classes for no discernable reason.

LadyThompson · 19/02/2010 08:37

Aubi, I really feel for you. Because I am not the size I want to be, nearly every shopping trip ends with me nearly in tears. Not that it's the same with you, but I hope the photosesh goes ok.

Good luck with the cleaning Effie, again I sympathise as it looks awful in here but I am postponing all but essential entertaining until we move, so no immediate incentive to tidy up (DP is very messy and his work stuff is everywhere).

Rubena · 19/02/2010 08:45

Oh Aubi so sorry but I was crying with laughter reading that - it sounds exactly like how my day would end up on a disasterous shopping trip! I must have missed your posts but whats the photo shoot for? Hope the FC jeans worked out!

Well ds back to normal wake up of around 7am so not sure the 1 nap thing makes a difference but will try making him last today if he can as one long early afternoon nap would work better for me.
He has a new thing of walking backwards and then checking to make sure I tell him he's clever! Wish I'd never said it was clever!

Beans33 · 19/02/2010 09:15

Oh God - I just never buy clothes any more for myself. Apart from from Asda! Then if they look horrible at least they cost less than £20! My maternity clothes are all minging as well. It's just too depressing! Never mind. Want to buy a summer skirt for maternity as will need it afterwards as well - I always forget about the continued gut for months after!

I am so dying for a lie in - I don't know what's come over me as I tend to wake up naturally at 6.45 anyway - but would love the opportunity to stay in bed til 10 just once - even if I was reading my book!

Turniphead1 · 19/02/2010 10:52

Ahhh brilliant - congrats to Beans and Rubena!!! And I am so glad to have now worked out who Rubena and Aubergine are! How to you all.

rubes I do tend to post the odd to time on a "topical" MN thread mainly because that takes about 5 mins whereas I totally love all the people on this thread, but I feel really really guilty if I don't do personals. But I miss you all - and am going to try and keep up!!

I guess that is why I love FB you can "see" what people are doing - as those on FB know I seem to find the time for that! Also my brain struggles to match RL names and identities to MN monikers....But I know a fair bit of what Veggie WG and the FB gang are up to.

Effie I still have your DS's cup from a meet up many moons ago! Have you moved? Are you coming to the meet up.

Aubs I am a new convert to skinny jeans with appropriate jelly belly cover up. I bet you look better than you think! Gap's ones I like as not too ££££.

I have 2.5 hrs to work and am on MN. Bad Turnip.

Turniphead1 · 19/02/2010 10:54

ps; is anyone's LO not walking still? I know Liada n is one of the youngest (Dec 30) but the lazy lump isn't even cruising. And Summers LO is bimmin skiing!!

Kayzr · 19/02/2010 10:55

Turnip DS2 doesn't walk. He has taken about 6 steps at my mums house but nothing more.

LadyThompson · 19/02/2010 11:02

Turnip...where do I even begin. O is one of the very oldest. She doesn't even crawl, let alone walk. She bumshuffles a bit and that's it. But is she gorgeous, I can't get annoyed with her. So don't worry about Liaden!

I've got Gap skinnies as well. They look awful but I wear them anyway as they make me feel young

Rubena · 19/02/2010 11:22

I think ds lasted longer than me this morning. I am knackered but can't sleep - I was up until 1am watching mindless TV then up at 7 with ds now shattered so saw ds rub his eyes at 10am and put him for bed so I could go myself he is still asleep but I didn't get a wink. This is a recurring pattern - I'll be knackered all day then get a 2nd wind about pm then up late again no doubt! Wish I wasn't such a night person sometimes.
Turnip, that makes sense. I joined the due Aug thread, and they go through about a thread every 3 to 4 weeks and I just can't keep up with both! I tend to lurk over there but that's about it. As long as we didn't offend that's all that matters. I worry too much I'm starting to use FB more now as almost my whole family is on there now although they joined but don't seem to go on there much but maybe they will if I use it more. It's a great thing for people with family overseas.
ds is walking and has been since about 1st week of Jan but has only ever uttered dadda so hoping a few more words kick in soon as it's getting annoying with his squeals and grunts.
Is anyone else struggling as much as me with nappy changes? If so is there any tips as I almost need someone to pin him down in order to change him these days

Rubena · 19/02/2010 11:23

second wind about 6pm that was....

EffiePerine · 19/02/2010 11:25

Turnip: DS2 doesn't walk either (he's a whole 2 days younger than L). n He'll cruise and can take a few steps with us holding both hands but is very very wobbly still. Am considering advanced training as he tends to prefer crawling as he can keep up with DS1 that way. Does she bear crawl (i.e. hands and feet?). DS2 seemed to be about to walk but then bear crawled instead, which I think is pretty common.

I don't think I can get to the meet-up on Monday (bah!) and am now in Essex, so that cup might be staying with you! Will have a look at the meet-up thread though and try and persuade DH.

TheInvisibleHand · 19/02/2010 11:37

So nice to see you on PD, Verso and Turnip! I can totally understand disappearing off the thread - I only manage to keep up at the moment because work is so deathly dull and slow. Good to know you are well.

Aubi - your account of shopping was hilarious and painfully familiar. I loathe clothes shopping. Do it as little as possible, but normally end up deeply depressed, having bought the first thing that vaguely fit.

Veggie - the swimming sounds great! Have just started to take DD for swimming lessons - it seems to be knackering for her, but she likes it. Trying to figure out how we can get DS in the pool as well.

Effie - lots of cleaning to do here as well, although I'm not sure what the point is - our NCT gang is coming for tea tomorrow, so we will have 4 toddlers, 4 babies and parents. I dread to think what shape we will be in at the end!

LadyT - sorry to read you've been feeling low - it seems terribly unfair doesn't it, you most need energy and motivation when its hardest to gather it together? You sound like one of the most energetic and positive people out there though and I am sure it will pay off soon, one way or another.

On naps - DS very variable, he really only needs one nap these days, but can't seem to decide whether he would like it in the morning or the afternoon! It is annoying though that in between time, when they are dropping a nap, but can't quite yet do without it.

DS is a small little monkey (somewhere between 2nd and 9th centile) and has only just crossed the 9kg mark but he seems full of energy most of the time, so don't worry about him too much. Beans - I wouldn't worry too much about weight, its normal she will have lost some being ill, you'll probably find she'll start eating an unbelievable amount and gain it all back quickly.

No walking here either, although DS is (just) able to stand on his own and take a step or so, so I don't think it will be long. DD walked at about 15 months - I think that's pretty average, but they get there in the end! I did see a scary piece in the paper a couple of days ago about a 6 month old who was walking - not sure I would enjoy that too much! No sense at that age, so would be terrifying. There is a friend of DDs who didn't walk till she was 2 - worried her parents, but completely within the bounds of normal and absolutely fine.

Very excited as I am going to go meet my DCs for lunch today - they have been visiting the British Museum (more for an indoor run around I think, not sure they will be soaking up much "culture"). They don't know I am coming, so will see how the surprise goes.

LadyThompson · 19/02/2010 11:44

Aw, Invis, that will be lovely Have a nice lunch.

Turniphead1 · 19/02/2010 11:47

LadyT - O sounds VERY like my DD1. She didn't walk until 20 months (and like you I was pg with no.2 and I got heartily sick of lugging her around). But verbally she was amazing, full sentences at 18 months (a famous incident when my NCT friends came round and she pointed up and said "do you like my ceiling rose" clear as a bell - they thought she was a freak).

Before anyone thinks I am one of these mad competative mothers I do hasten to add that at 6 she is verbally no more advanced than any of her peers and has more or less caught up on the gross motor skills delay!!It was funny though as a baby how she could chat. L, although not walking DOES move (on her bottom and crawling) and climb and just has a couple of words.

Turniphead1 · 19/02/2010 11:49

HI Invisible!!! That is so nice about your surprise visit to the BM (oh, actually that's MN shorthand for breast milk - but you know what I mean!!). Bet your pair will be delighted.

daisydora · 19/02/2010 11:51

Morning ladies,

mom thank you for the new thread - brilliant title!!

verso, turnip & PD hello ladies lovely to hear from you as always

effie sympathies on the cleaning front. Things here have gone to rack and ruin because of everything that has been happening. Wednesday morning i went to dress the DC's and they literally had no clothes. Thankfully some had been washed, just not ironed. Anyway I am slowly catching up.

veggie your swim sounds wonderful. I have taken DS a couple of times, he seems to like the water as long as he can stand comfortably and splash about.

aubs I hope the photo shoot goes okay. But i must confess I howled at your shopping trip tale. Sounds like something I do.

Sympathies to everyone who is unhappy with their shape. I am very about my figure (or should I say lack of) at the moment. I seriously need to shed some weight...is fatties thread still active. I'll go and have a look.

DS seems to be over his recent ills. Dr said he had some sort of viral infection which should pass, and it looks like it has. BTW DS can waslk, but only inside. We bought him some reins(sp?) and tried to get him to walk in the park the other day but he just stood firmly rooted to the spot

DH is doing much better. Obviously still has his moments, but actually mentioned maybe seeing the GP to get a referral for some grief counselling. Twas like music to my ears, given what we ahve been through. Also inspired by talk of holidays and getting away in the last thread, i have booked us a break at easter. We are staying in some lodge in Devon. The place looks lovely a bit like Centre Parcs, so i thought sod it and booked the quality lodge which has its own hot tub & sauna. DH is pleased as it gives us all something to look forward to. Plus my mum is having the dc's overnight tonight and we are off to the cinema and then something to eat. I so need to get out of this house, I feel like I have been couped up for weeks....

daisydora · 19/02/2010 11:55

Bah shocking typing in that post

BTW did urbane get back to us on the Brits?? I have to say apart from Cheryl & Crotch-gate I did find her miming quite shocking.
