OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Um Bicnod, I think there was a mix up, that prize was meant for me!

Although i'm more of a vintage Bolly girl natch.

Seriously though, I will email you my address, you can forward it immediately and we will say no more about it.

PuzzleRocks · 08/05/2010 11:43

Oh and Holly will happily do her own teeth but we havent a hope in hell of her letting us brush them.

We call her toothbrush her minty lollipop because she just sucks it.

bebemoohatessnot · 08/05/2010 14:42

We let Moo brush her own and half way through we have a good scrub ourselves. She also likes to help us brush our teeth (indeed every time she brushes hers I brush mine so I think she thinks it's some sort of family bonding ritual)

I've been cutting the smoothie half with water and it's going down, but much more slowly. She keeps asking for more too.

Schulte · 08/05/2010 20:02

Evening lovelies.

DD1 keeps saying that one of her nursery friends is going to Barbados, do you think she's trying to tell me something?

Off to catch up

Schulte · 08/05/2010 20:28

LOL about the dishwasher. Another dishwasher obsessed baby here. She must think it's a game or something

BB congrats on winning that account. Can't think when my rubbish agency last won a new client, must have been years ago!

Must say Soho IS pretty cool. I have been having fun going for nice lunches! My colleagues do a lot of celebrity spotting but I couldn't tell George Clooney from Gordon Brown if they both stood in front of me.

Are there telephones with child locks? Not mobiles, proper phones? Not that we're going to buy a new one again any time soon but I do keep wondering why my house phone doesn't have a lock key function!

Bebe, I haven't ever given any of my dds smoothies, for a start they are way too expensive and I don't even buy them for myself. If I give them something other than water or milk, it's a bit of diluted cheap apple juice, but generally I try to stick to water, because it's the cheapest option, I mostly drink water myself, and I am not organised enough to always have juice in the house. Also I have seen friends' children refusing anything other than juice and I want my dds to drink water when they are thirsty. I'd probably try to wean Moo off it tbh.

MrsG sorry to hear about chipped tooth, but then you know he'll get new ones in about 5 years' time so wouldn't worry too much. FWIW I lived with a chipped front tooth from about 15 years old to when I was 30, just couldn't be bothered to have it fixed. It was never a problem. And I did get laid every now and then

MrsG you ARE a great mum. And E could just as well have hurt himself while DH was looking after him.

Bronze yay for good news, hope you've been zipping about in the car today.

Bicnod - case of Moet? I take it you'll bring one of the bottles along on Wed?

Where are those comps that people keep winning???

Hang on Bicnod - if you're back at work on Monday how are we going to meet up on Wed? Are you not working Wed?

Hazel has always been fascinated by people brushing their teeth and she's so happy to have a brush of her own now but she likes cruising around the bath tub with the brush in her mouth and I am worried about her falling and hurting her throat!

DH is cooking a fish that he caught himself today.... very exciting

Schulte · 08/05/2010 20:30

I also have a confession to make - I ordered a pair of Havaianas today for a ridiculous £19.... £19 for some flip flops, I must be mad

AuldAlliance · 08/05/2010 21:33

No time to post, off to bed, feel like death. But this cheered me up, I had to share:

AuldAlliance · 08/05/2010 21:33

rogue colon, WTF?

Bicnod · 09/05/2010 11:35

Schulte - I'm only working Mon and Tue for the first two weeks back so Wed is definitely still on I promise I'll save a bottle of champers for our next meet up I might get in trouble driving home if I bring one on Wed

Flip flops are wonderful things. £19 for a pair of flip flops that you will wear day in day out over the summer is fine IMHO.

Auld - absolutely PMSL at that thread

Schulte · 09/05/2010 21:14

Oh. My. God. Auld, that's so funny. I haven't laughed like this in ages! Poor woman

Bicnod yay, can't wait for Wed xxx

bronze · 09/05/2010 22:19

rogue colon almost sounds rude

well the paperwork didn't come through for the car so we couldn't sort numberplates so no zipping yet
Thursday got a call from playgroup. Nia had had an accident. Down steps on a bike, straight over the handle bars. smashed up face swalloed lots of blood which then made her vomit. A huge bruise later come up on her forehead. If I had known she had banged her head before it would have been an a&e job with all the vomitting. But shes fine, just not too pretty.

Today, dog got out and decided to play chicken and lost. Dog into side of car on the main road, thud, yelp, whine... limpy dog grawling off. It was horrible to watch, all slow motion but happened so quickly. 2 seconds earlier she would have been dead dog so lucky really. Instead shes hurt one of her legs but will survive.

So I hope thats my three bad things and now can I have three good things please

Shulte. I'm a cheapskate but I do say pay more for quality. I just don't have much for me because of that rule

auld -oh poor her. Very funny but I feel so for her. Those damn hormones

PuzzleRocks · 10/05/2010 08:04

That thread had DH and I in stitches too. It's like those dreams you have where you wake up and think "thank god that wasn't real".

Bron - I hope Nia gets better soon. And your dog too. What a week!

I am in a bad mood this morning. DH hadn't smoked for two weeks and then last night he had one. I was really grumpy with him before he left. Tell me I am being a cow.

bronze · 10/05/2010 09:48

No you're not being a cow.

dawntigga · 10/05/2010 12:44

encouraged to come back to thread by Tigga

very very unhappy at the mo
work problems
paper rejected by journal (suspiciously because I think they want to crowd me out so they can write about my topic instead)
medication problems
lost my mojo

Boffx

ZuluWarrior · 10/05/2010 14:01

Lovely to see you back Boff. We have missed you. Sorry to hear you're having such a rubbish time. Feel free to vent your spleen here.

Puzz, YANBU. However, as an ex-smoker (just wrote "e-smoker". How would that work, exactly???) can understand just how tricky it is to give up. He must be a tiny bit miffed with himself too.

Bronze, ouch for Nia and the dog. My two have narrowly missed being hit on several occasions. Not sure how they've survived, TBH.
Hope both are feeling better.

Bicnod, how did it go? The worst day is over! It can only get (slowly) easier from here on in.

AA, how are you feeling. Did you have a rogue colon or some other ailment? .

Does anyone else have a tantrummy one-year old? Is it even possible to have a tantrum at this age? Twice this week already I have had to leave the room to calm down because of painful shrieking for no reason. Is it me?

ZuluWarrior · 10/05/2010 14:02

AA, missing question mark

PuzzleRocks · 10/05/2010 15:46

I'd gladly smoke an e right now. Might make me feel a bit more charitable towards the world.

dawntigga · 10/05/2010 16:10

Boff is to important to talk to us she's Mary Portas' bessy mate

SomeVeryGoodPointsMadeByBoffTiggaxx

BoffinMum · 10/05/2010 16:28

Mary is indeed my new best friend. She talks good sense, that woman. My mojo has just peeped around the corner again after that webchat.

BoffinMum · 10/05/2010 16:38

WRT venting my spleen, basically:

a) A lot of people at my work appear to be experiencing uncertainty for one reason and another and it seems to be manifesting itself in a lot of negative office politics. This is not something it is appropriate to discuss in detail on the internet, but suffice it to say I have been at the receiving end of multiple not nice things and being a big softy underneath my apparently ball breaking exterior I do not take kindly to this. In fact I am extremely upset about it and I am starting to feel rather got at because it is really very unfair criticism and I am required to take it on the chin in order to keep the peace.

b) I am on some new medication for my SPD but it is making me feel quite unlike myself and rather unhappy, even though it is nice to be without the pain. It says that it can do this on the leaflet that came with the tablets, but I am not sure whether to try to burn through or whether to come off them and feel all crippled again. I feel like that Hugh Laurie doctor character in House when he's on the ketamines and he doesn't need his stick any more for a bit, but then has to go back to how he was before - if the cure is as bad as the condition in some ways, do you continue with it in the hope that things will balance up, or do you cut your losses?

c) I have just had a paper rejected by a journal which is always very dispiriting, because they take about 4 months to write and you put your heart and soul into them. I am ever so slightly suspicious it's because I am being elbowed out of a popular journal in the same way that some climate scientists complained of being. I am not at all sure what I should do about that.

Plus I am having a fat day today. In fact it's lasted about a week.

ZuluWarrior · 10/05/2010 19:55

Boff, it must be horrible to go to work when it's all so negative at the moment. Particularly when it's so much of your life. I can imagine your line of work is very competitive and you've probably worked pretty hard to get where you've got. Any chance of your paper being accepted by another journal?

What's your new medication, if it's not too nosey a question? Your pain/side effects dilemma is a horrible but all-too-common one.

You're not fat. You're hot. I've seen a photo of you, plus I have Auld's word, and she seems pretty trustworthy .

AuldAlliance · 10/05/2010 20:38

Boff, I shouldn't be on here, as am having a crisis of confidence about my paper for next week's symposium, and am on the brink of binning it all and starting over (or dropping out altogether). But I confess that I lurked for a bit on the Mary Portas chat and wanted to suggest two websites to you, in case they are any use at all.

This one is quite bcbg and therefore £££££ for simple bits, but the stuff is usually v well cut & flattering. Being French, they don't have many sizes, but their tops would be fine for you, I reckon. I have a 20% off your favourite item voucher, and could get free delivery here and post stuff on to you if you fancied anything.
I've been eyeing this up, but haven't managed to justify the price yet.

This one is more casual chic/bobo, and you have to pick and choose as there are some choice items (!), but again the cut is usually pretty good. Same story if you want me to order anything, and I have 30% off the whole site, not just one measly item. They go up one size higher in a lot of stuff, so their trousers would probably be good for you, too.

I can't do much for your other woes, I'm afraid, but I know that when you're facing the baddies FW-style, you need to feel goooooood in your clothes.

And you are NOT FAT. You are gorgeous. Repeat after me fifty times.....

Schulte · 10/05/2010 20:45

Hope everyone is getting better xxx

dawntigga · 10/05/2010 21:01

Auld that shirt is fairly well priced for the amount of work that goes into that kind of pin tuck. The rest? Fuck me! Not literally, don't get scared, but that's expensive.
