Shock
FiByTheIcySea · 03/03/2010 13:40

my mum just told me that kristian digby is dead in bizarre circumstances.. so young i'm in shock. so sad.

febes · 03/03/2010 13:44

O.M.F.G.
I can't decide what is more shocking. The fact that he shampooed another child's hair or that bloody scooter or the terrible behaviour at the party. I thank him in a way though as he ain't 'alf made me larf .

Saus Do. Not. Listen. To. Crazy. Mothers. I think some professional woman who have babies are so used to being judged in the working world that they find the need to be ultra competitive in the baby world. I used to be so smug with DD's sleeping but I have now realised that her good sleeping was more to do with her rather than anything I was doing as R has been difficult to get to sleep even though I did all the same things. Hope Thursdays lunch is ok.

WorkingLadies Hope those who started working this week are ok. I have a day supply teaching booked at my old school for the end of the month (eeekkkk) My MIL will be here on holiday (for a month ) so at least I won't have to arrange childcare. I hope R copes for the day without my boobs .

Dandy Baby TaiChi sounds good I'll have to check if our Chilren's Centre is running a course soon .

Dandy - keep the MM stories coming! Bonkers.

It's sad about Kristian Digby. He was young.

I've got a grumpy baby today, could be teeth, could be anything, I just can't make her happy today.

HeadlessLadyH · 03/03/2010 14:01

Sneaking in a quick post at work

dandy PMSL at MM and his pink scooter. I had an image of him being much younger but yes to the bald head.

saus let us know how your lunch goes. Please do tell your friend how well M sleeps. Not that motherhood is a point scoring exercise. Its not. Obviously.

belgina your return to work sounds like its going well, even if it involves powerpoint. In my office, i am lucky to have a computer and a pen.

flip repeat its just a phase its just a phase. And get yourself some Lemsip.

spangle good to see you, hope work goes well.

Swine flu jabs here yesterday. Had to bribe DS1 with Ben 10 chocolate ( who knew Ben 10 made chocolate too???) but this morning was complaining of a sore arm. ANyone else had this with theirs? R seems fine.

Am looking forward to my days off tomorrow and Friday. I am enjoying being back at work but my word, its hectic on getting home. This week I have made a real effort to be more organised and did 3 meals for us on Monday to cover till tonight so no cooking would be needed. I doubt it will last though. Tonight I am insisiting that DH do pick ups so at least I don't have to rush home, but I fear if I am not home by 6, all hell will have broken loose and The Routine will be down the pan.

MM

FiByTheIcySea · 03/03/2010 14:09

grrr my phone is only showing me the posts but not the important name lines! so i have to guess who's said what
swine flu jabs.. G and DS have had them & yes DS said his arm was sore for a day or 2 after.

flippinegg · 03/03/2010 14:20

swine flu jabs - the girls seemed to be fine after theirs (well, A has only had the first dose of hers, second dose in 10 days time) but DH had a really sore arm after his - said it felt like someone had given him a dead arm.

headless - that sounds organised, hope ti works out ok with DH doing pickups.

Sadly no lemsip allowed, I don't think anyway. It's not a bad cold, it's just annoying - the worst bit is the tickly cough. DH got up with the girls first thing so I could stay in bed until he went to work, but I couldn't sleep because of the annoying tickly throat thing.

hopalongsausage · 03/03/2010 15:46

Swine flu jabs - M had a letter inviting her to go for one - went in to make an appointment and they have run out! Grr!

Flip re egg allergies - poor A. Doesn't the choose & book thingy work? The paediatric allergy team at Kings is great (boasting about one of best friends here...)

Dandy - I can just imagine your DD talking to MM about his bloodyawfulscooter! Haha! (.... and DH called TheThursdayPerson a stupid tw@t, with her kn@b of a boyfriend. I have bought lush M&S nosh to compensate, and am wondering if BLW includes things like parma ham, duck liver pate and camembert? Am I being mean?) (mwa ha haaaaa) Anyway, I (foolishly) tried a BLW lunch. Hahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa what a disaster. Hats off to y'all that do it! I think there was more food on the floor and up M's nose than in her mouth. Apart from the raisins.

Oh and Dandy am going to text you.

Fi - sad about Kristian Digby. Although I am now left wondering what a solo sex game with a bag and a belt involves, I can only guess Am also intrigued by one of the Jamie Bulger killers in the press again. There's a particularly busy thread going on about it on here which I didn't want to read.

Hip is agonyyyyyy today. Am old

SpangleMaker · 03/03/2010 16:09

Swine flu jabs H was fine after his. Sore arms - the doc explained it's because the vaccine is in a relatively thick emulsion (made from eggs????) whereas most vaccines are in a watery solution which spreads quickly, so with the swine flu jab there can be a localised reaction.

Saus you'll find the raisins later

Loving the MM hilarity.

Headless hope this evening goes well. I'm dreading going back to work proper (mid-April) as I will have to pick H up 5.45 (assuming trains are on time), home by 6.15, give H tea, bath, feed, bed, then cook our meal. Then get in bed in time to have enough sleep to function properly by 5.45am the next morning. With night-wakings from H too. Hats off to you ladies with 2+ DC!

Work was ok, just a catch up meeting to discuss my new role. I've agreed to my boss's suggestion (not that I had much choice!)... it's not fantastic but not as bad as some of the things I could have ended up with so I'm ok with it.

Ooops better go - DH back with H - I wonder how they've got on without me! (and my boobs)

runningmonkey · 03/03/2010 19:37

Evening all,
am supposed to be lesson planning but thought I'd pop in and say hi.

Nightmare day today, both DH and A ill with sore throats/coughs and we had a mock OFSTED inspection in school. DH had a loan car from work that had to be back this morning so although he was too ill to go in, he had to drive it to work with me following with poorly A in the car so I could drive him home again. Then we had the bright idea that he could drop me in work and then go home with A. Traffic was horrendous as there has been a lot of flooding so although we left the house at 7.15, I got to work at 8.45 and DH got home at 9.50! Also didn't help that it was DH's first entire day looking after A on his own as she was too ill to go to the CM. Felt really sorry for them both.

On the plus side, my lessons went well, will get some feedback tomorrow on the one that actually got observed. Hopefully it will be good.

On the topic of A being ill, I have a story for you. A had a Dr appointment yesterday as we have noticed that she goes quite cross-eyed at times and as I am v squinty, we thought we should have it checked. At the appt I mentioned that A has been really off her milk for the last few days - taking only about 90ml each feed. She has been eating fine and nappies have been wet, etc. but as she is really refusing milk I asked when I should get worried. The GP said not to as it was probably her way of telling me she doesn't need much milk anymore. I pointed out that I thought babies needed at least 1 pint of milk as well as food up until 1yr old and the GP said 'who told you that'. I replied, the HV and an NHS weaning leaflet and she shrugged and said she'd never heard of that before! This is a GP who is supposed to be a paediatric specialist!!

Anyway, this has turned into an epic, sorry.

Hope everyone is ok this evening, work is going well and illnesses and annoying competitive-mum friends are at bay.

ROFL at the MM stories. Loving the scooter. Living in Cambridge you see all sorts of crazy academics, he would probably fit right in.

SF jabs A had hers with no problem. I have heard a lot of older children/adults complaining about the sore arm thing though, maybe having it in the thigh wasn't as bad?

flippinegg · 03/03/2010 20:17

SF again - sausage, have you requested the egg free one for M? I persuaded our practice nurse that A should have it, even though the egg allergy hasn't been confirmed (but family history of atopic stuff makes it highly possible). The choose and book thing offered me a choice of one clinic that appears to have no appointments at all, so we've just been referred back to the hospital, and they will contact me directly. Just annoyed about the whole thing really, waiting for the c'n'b letter wasted two weeks, now it's going to be another few weeks before the clinic get in touch with us, and that's before we've even got onto the waiting list proper! Sure Kings is lovely .

running - sorry to hear about the illness and travel stuff, but glad your lessons went ok! Mock OFSTED doesn't sound much fun, but I suppose at least it wasn't the real deal so soon after you going back.

BLW meals - yep, that sounds about right. But it does improve, honest! LOL at the pate and posh cheese though. Hope the lunch goes ok, sausage, without too much smugery on her part.

All ok here, A actually got slightly less clingy this afternoon for about an hour! We've discovered one of the causes, her two top front teeth are perilously close to emerging. Calpol in the bath, possibly unnecessary but hopefully pre-empting any disruption.

next lot of counselling tomorrow, am determined to cry less! Hate the puffy red face and sore eyes!

Busy day here. Wednesdays and Sundays are my only full days off work and we certainly packed a lot into today:
10am - meet up with post natal friends and babies
11.45am - Jo Jingles
12.45am - packed lunch with Jo Jingles babies
2pm - Church group (story, music and play)
5pm - visit from my cousin

And breathe!!!

flippin - hope your session goes well tomorrow

running - aww...poor A and poor DH. Hope they're both feeling better soon.

Spangle - glad your meeting went ok. Hope H had a good time with DH.

saus - sorry for painful hip. Is it week after next the op?

Dandy - MM stories have made me
Piccie of DD is gorgeous!

Sorry for not name checking further but I've got a headache. My own fault as I should be switching off but I'm trying to get sorted in my head everything I need to get done at work over the next couple of days. I've done all I can at home this evening so I'm going to head off to bed to watch the end of the football and then (hopefully) get some sleep.

Jael · 03/03/2010 21:16

Hi everyone, hope you've all been ok

I've been super busy over the last few days. Trying to sort things for the wedding and Trying to make friends with moms round the school, J has made a new friend, a baby brother of a little girl in DD's new class. So all is well
DD has settled in extremely well. She's going to her extra class with her 2 friends that she knew prior to joining the AM class. She now has her own reading diary which she is sooo excited about they're giving her reception books to read now, I can't believe how well she's coming along. Her writing and reading shocks me sometimes lol Midlands Meet Up Ladies Be prepared for "letters" from DD hehe

J is still a snot monster, and no tooth has appeared like I thought...he's still been eating fine too tonight he had beef casserole and was munching on pieces of beef so it can't be anything serious, but I've had enough of being snotted on, 4 weeks!

My DP has ran me a bath, I can smell my bubble bath from here, so I'm going to go.

Have a nice night everyone XXX

febes · 03/03/2010 21:38

My (old) boss has been in touch and has now booked me for 3 days this month, a day in April and 3 days in May . I'm pleased as I am only avaiable a few days a week so they are working around when I am avaiable which is flattering. As I have resigned I'll be supply so no real responsibility and I'll be tutoring after school too which will mean some pocket money for me. So I'll be a WorkingLadywithboobs .

SIL will look after the DCs for a rent reduction so easy childcare organisation.

youngerthanspringtime · 03/03/2010 21:48

hi all.
forgive me in advance for not namechecking everyone.
flippin, good luck with counselling tomorrow.
running, very about the doc who has no clue about milk. again.

SW jabs, got invitations for all 3 DDs. next SF jab clinic is this friday but I'm never going to survive a traumatic visit with all 3 girls getting jabs. I'm going to have to arrange a babysitter and get them done in 2 visits.

ok, was just a quick post to say hi. back to reading work stuff. dull stuff.

oh, and that MM is american. I was half-joking when I guessed. what an odd, odd man.

hopalongsausage · 04/03/2010 00:02

A quick hello before the land of nod. Oh yes, I shall sleep well tonight - DH is in Bristol - I have a whole bed to myself, no snoring and no stupid bzz bzz bzz bzz bzz bzz of an alarm going off (AND snoozing!) at 6am (which also wakes M, grr). Ah bliss. So it will be a gentle start to a potentially stressful lunch thing with smug-mum.

Flip - good idea re asking about the egg free jab. Dandy I would imagine your LA would be high risk. I got offered a TB jab for M when we were there (we were pretty much in the same LA as you, if not, neighbouring) but they don't do it out here in the sticks wot is Watford. Still. Not sure whether to actively pursue the SF jab, especially as spring is on its way... (she said hopefully)

Oh and Flip (again) - M was a nightmare when her two top teeth came through - it was horrendous. Stupidly high temperature (39.4), listless, clingy, whimpery, off milk and nosh. Bloody huge things now.

Running - and at your GP. I wouldn't worry, though, about decreased milk intake, especially as A is still having plenty of wet and pooey nappies. M quite often only has half a bottle (which would be about 100ish) and just pushes it away. No point in trying any further, she gets too stroppy. The weight of her soggy nappy this morning would have sank the titanic, so I don't (tend!) to worry too much. (says she who is having worries about tomorrow!) She drinks water as well, and there's plenty of water in the food that she has, as well as milk... a friend who is a HV reminded me that all the calcium needs are also in all the cheese sauce, yoghurts etc etc that she wolfs down, and I tend to believe her as a) I used to be her boss (ha) and b) her DH is a leading paediatric calcium and bone expert.

Ses - ta - op is on the 16th. Eeeek! Am thinking of taking laptop with me as I'll be bedbound for 2 days and the hospital has wi-fi. You'll all be sick of me! I might even venture into AIBU and name change and be a complete cow like the rest of them usually are...

M has got into this weird habit of putting a toy in her mouth (or a piglet slipper)(and yes, she does have slippers, we have wooden floors, and she slides all over the shop otherwise) whilst she is crawling about and kind of munching on it. She did this at Tumbletots (sorry Gymbabes - rah!) the other day and the 'lady' commented on it - she asked if I had a dog, to which I replied no, and she said quite often young children mimic dogs and other pets Anyone heard of this? I can't get her to copy what I do so why the bleeding nora is she copying my parents' effing dog who she hardly ever sees?! Harumf.

Ooooh the witching hour! Nnight!

ps - still can't get signature right...

muddleddaizy · 04/03/2010 08:03

Morning!

Febes thats great news that your old boss is passing work your way!

Swine Flu I got a letter2 months ago and I stuck my head in the sand and just found the letter 2 days ago. I'm not even sure they're running the clinics now & I am embarrassed to ask!!

Running hope your dh & dd are feeling better today.

Sausage Ds2 does the same thing with slipper/sock in his mouth and we don't have a dog!!

Our oven broke last night as I was cooking dinner - so best look into getting it fixed! That and I have a velcro ds2 and ds1 just refuses to do anything I ask - sigh

flippinegg · 04/03/2010 09:03

Morning all!

sausage - A does that too, and I'm not sure she's ever seen a dog do it! Surely it's the only way to carry stuff while you're crawling? Hope your hip is ok today, and that your lunch goes well!

muddled - that's not good about your oven, does your hob still work?

We had an interesting night - A woke at 1.30 for the first time (so better), she had a feed and then the most enormous poo (teething, bleurgh!), she got really cross while I was changing her nappy, so DD1 woke up. DD1 is going through a phase where she wants DH to cuddle her in her bed, it's quite funny really because she has a toddler bed and he is over 6 foot tall!

It's another cold and sunny day here, lovely. Washing almost ready to go out!
