Morning all

younger- I agree it's great to have 1-2-1 time with each DC . My DD was in sports camp 3 days during half-term, but i picked her up one night, took her out for pizza and had a lovely chat . Also DD has a lot of parties now she is at school so i enjoy taking her to those.

singin- hope you are able to put the difficult and dark moments of your time in France behind you - it's good you could talk it through with your DH - i know i would have struggled in a different country, with 3 DCs and a DH who didn't come over as much as he said he would, and a house which had loads of problems too. I also have shouty moments with S, especially when he is clingy which probably makes him even more clingy [mean mummy emoticon]. And I am sure I read that if you shout about the nipple biting, they soon learn not to do it- well S still likes to chew/bite from time to time .

Well we were going to send DS1/DD off to nursery/school, but DS1 is still off his food and upset, and DD has a temp, so I am at home with all 3. Might take DD at lunchtime if she seems better. Was going to book an appointment at the docs for S as he was so hot and slept badly but now he's had nurofen he seems fine . What to do? Really they probably all need looking over, but i'm guessing it'll just be the usual virus thing. So instead I might take them to the sorting office to collect a package, and to the supermarket as we are out of calpol and need some food supplies. I don't want DD to think it's fun not to go to school .

Then DH is coming home to take over, so i will go to work 2-6.

I feel a bit to complain about my DCs being ill and not getting my ME time, but i find looking after sick children very emotionally and physically draining- i think it's the hardest part of being a parent, especially when they are little and can't say what's wrong. And even though DH has cleaned the carpet twice (with proper carpet cleaner stuff/hot water), it still smells of sick- anyone got any advice?

febes · 25/02/2010 08:51

Morning!! Much better night here R woke at 12ish and then 6.30 when DD woke so I had a good sleep. I felt a bit bad though as I think it took me ages to wake at 12 because when I got R he had wriggled out of his sleeping bag and both his legs were out of his sleepsuit . He had a feed and went happily back to sleep though.

Younger What a lovely time with DD. It's important to try to spend time with each DCs just being cuddly or silly or doing something. If only there were more hours in the day. I remember when R was a few months and was having a nap I took DD out to the garden with a bubble gun thingy and we had fun blowing bubbles after a while she came over and threw her arms around me in a big hug as if to say thankyou for playing with me. It was nice .

Singing Well done DD1!! You have every right to be thrilled. You grew her after all .

Pula I hope your DSs are better today. Is your DH at home with them today?

Well I have decided that DH and I are going to have a night away on our anniversary (April) as his mum is coming over for a month so I'm sure she will love to have a night with her GC. DH and I haven't had a night off since DD was 5 months old, which was nearly 2 years ago . I'm thinking somewhere be the sea? Maybe Kent coast? I'd like to go somewhere we haven't been before but not too far from home. Any suggestions??

febes · 25/02/2010 08:56

X post Pula I agree that looking after DCs when they are sick is haaaaard. R seems to catch everything that is going around. We go through buckets of Calpol and Nurofen!!

essenceofSES · 25/02/2010 09:23

Morning!

Making the most of my last day before work and O being at nursery by going shopping

Febes - depends what you're looking for. I always love Brighton for shopping, bars, etc or if you want a bit of pampering, it doesn't really matter where IYKWIM just the right hotel!

Pula - I've got the same problem with the carpet in O's room from where he snot-vommed last wken. It's still stained and a little smelly. I've tried vanish power foam 3 times.

singin - for DD1! Just shows what a great mummy she has!

younger - O really enjoys JJ. It's basically singing nursery rhymes with little actions, clapping, musical instruments tailored to their age group. O seems to have a thing for the Jo Jingles doll

Hiccups have now finally gone (thanks Dandy )

Right - quick shower and then.....SHOPPING!!!!

febes · 25/02/2010 09:35

Ses We've been to Brighton loads and love it but want to try somewhere different. I was looking just now at Whitstable- is that nice? Its only just over an hour away.

youngerthanspringtime · 25/02/2010 10:02

morning all.
Quick question to those whose periods have returned: were any of you really crampy for awhile before it arrived?

I've had a really heavy feeling very much like period cramps off and on. I actually thought I was getting it this morning but now it's gone away. Also got tender boobs which used to happen before i got my period as well.

what was it like for you? gonna post on general health i think. I've got a GP appt next thu but still on my mind...

youngerthanspringtime · 25/02/2010 11:15

Ses, awww thanks
have fun shopping!

SinginHinny · 25/02/2010 11:49

La la la la la

The house is a shit tip bit of a mess, washing piling up. So, S is actually asleep . Am I cleaning? Am I buggery. I'm sniffing the banana-bread scented air (should be coooked in about another 40 mins)and watching Barefoot Contessa cook yummy fabulous things.

ses I hope you enjoy your day shopping and I hope your first day back at work tomorrow goes shoothly and quickly.

pula I hope your kids get better soon - have you tried baking soda/bicarb(?) for the carpet - sprinkle and leave a few mins then hoover off - absorbs smells. Think that's where Shake 'n' Vac came from (c'mon, "Do the Shake 'n' Vac and put the freshness back, so the Shake 'n' Vac and put the freshness back").

I hope saus got back ok, saw her fb post too Jael and thought the same as you.

younger I have been thinking about buying some maple syrup - is it definitely best to buy the £5/£6 a bottle stuff, rather than 'maple-flavour' syrup (I'm guessing the answer is yes btw)

pulapancake · 25/02/2010 13:06

singin thanks for the carpet tip. will try that later.

well it all got too much for me by 9.30 as DD/DS1 were arguing and both seemed well enough to go to school/nursery and i was shouty mummy as S was whiney but only napped for 15 mins. so i dropped ds1 off at 10.30, went shopping and dropped dd at school at 11.40. good job as ds2 was all shivery and fell asleep on me which he hasn't done in the day for months! tried a transfer to cot but didnt work.

youngerthanspringtime · 25/02/2010 13:27

singin, defn buy the Real Maple syrup and not flavoured. we usually get the canadian type which seems reasonably priced but have managed to stretch a big bottle of Ohio maple syrup for 10 months (my sis brought it on a visit).

Pula, glad the 2 DCs are better and hope S ok (and you!).

Jael · 25/02/2010 13:34

Just got 2 mins before J goes down to nap, because I'm feeling a little

I had a meeting at DD's school before nursery so today she had to sit down at the table with her lunch at 11:15 instead of 11:45 well anyway I had my meeting and afterwards went to check with Mrs Z who had been with her, and she said, DD had been fine but had said that hadn't had any lunch so they had given her 2 banana's! When she'd just had lunch at home, AND a banana! So in an hour she'd ate 3 banana's. I apolagised, and felt really and explained maybe she was still hungry as she had had lunch a little earlier, but HAD DEFINATELY HAD lunch, and hadn't said to me she was still hungry...Mrs Z then said the childrens snack at around 2pm would be a banana too So today DD will have eaten 4 banana's!

SinginHinny · 25/02/2010 13:43

Jael sorry but at your cheeky monkey DD!

Bananas seem to send DD2 doolalley, 4 would make her climb the walls.

Jael · 25/02/2010 14:55

Singin I just can't believe that she'd tell a lie and make out that I havn't fed her! I felt sooo

I've never tried maple syrup

HeadlessLadyH · 25/02/2010 15:02

Aftenoon lovely ladies,

Not had chance to read anything from Monday night onwards yet but will try to do a catch up later.

We've been out all morning and R is now asleep so I have 20 mins before I need to leave to get DS1.

running hope your return went well. You've probably posted all about it already and I just need to go back and read all about it.

Well, it was all fine! . I was straight back down to court in the morning and the police station in the afternoon. I had the best start too as before I had even got through the door of court, I was acosted by an old client saying "thank god you're here, I have been looking for you, I need you to represent me and I had forgotten which firm you worked for". So bit of an ego boost at 9.30am on day one!!!

The worst bit (sort of) is the manic mode you have to go into at 5pm, ie leaving so you have enough time to pick up two children from two different places, get them home, feed them, bath them and get them to bed before you! I guess its just a matter of getting used to the routine. R was fine (of course). It was DS1 who was a bit as he didn't like after school club. But he has to go. And I'm sure he will like it in time. Its a long day for him, I know.

Right will go back and do a catch up - you lot seem to have been very chatty. Hopefully back later on.

Kisses to you all!

SinginHinny · 25/02/2010 15:48

Sorry jael didn't mean to belittle your , it just reminded me of the sort of thing DD2 would do, accompanied by sad brown eyes. Mind you, she just told me that she'd been strangled by a girl in her class.

headless Glad the day went well

Jael · 25/02/2010 16:00

Well DD is home accompanied with biscuits she's made today now, she was going to wait to show Daddy but I've just been and checked and she couldn't wait obviously I feel kinda mean even suggesting she wait to show Daddy, seeing as he isn't going to be home for another 2 hours and most of her friends were scoffing theirs on their way out of the classroom! but oh well, she said they were yummy and What are we having for dinner tonight? She's ate 4 banana's in the last 3 four hours! Maybe she's having a growth spurt lol

Right enough off my blabbering, time for a serious Q...How much water? Diluted squash etc? Is your LO having a day in their sippy cup? How much other fluid other than milk?

Jael X

llareggub · 25/02/2010 16:32

Hello folks. You have been chatty today!

I've been on a course today and I am shattered. It has made me realise that I really do need to get G's sleep sorted before I go back to work or I'll never function properly.

I'm going to come back later and say hi but just wanted to say Jael, I've no idea how much G drinks during the day. I leave a sippy cup on the floor for him to help himself to water during the day, with a fresh one when I remember. I also breastfeed when he asks for it, probably 5/6 times a day, sometimes more. He only has water; I don't give diluted juice because his older brother is bit of a juice fiend and rarely touches water. I don't want DS2 to get the juice bug too early as a result!

runningmonkey · 25/02/2010 18:32

Hi all,
Just quickly popping on to let you know I survived the last two days Kids have been v forgiving and A has been ok at the CM. I am exhausted tho and will be going to bed as soon as A is asleep tonight.

Hope everyone is ok, especially those who are poorly, have poorly lo's and/or were returning to work. I'll try to catch up at the weekend x

running headless So nice to see you and to hear everything went well. headless at the ego boost!

febes Whitstable is lovely. Small but lovely. I've been there quite a few times because my nearest sling meet is there. As a matter of fact I was there on a mum's night out last night Just me and the organiser turned up, but it was lovely (she's dutch, so we had a nice long dutch chat). Anyway, Whitstable is small, but to me somehow it does have a bit of a Brighton kind of feel. You know, a bit bohemian maybe?

jael Lol @ your dd and her bananas AND biscuits. Greedy guts! No useful answer here re fluids either. C still hasn't worked out her cup and she still gets most of her fluids from her bf. Probably 4/5 a day + 3 a night -ish.

maple syrup on eggos (this one's for younger ) That was my daily breakfast when I lived in the US

singing You deserve feeling all proud of your dd1. Good to hear you're talking to your DH about France. Sounds like you had a touch time. From where I'm sitting you sound more like your old self now. Not that I really know you, but your imaginary self is more like your old imaginary self.

C's feeling much better today. I even took her to swimming lessons. She's still loving the water. She was splashing away and her teacher loves the way C's all relaxed and chilled in the pool.

On the other hand, dd1 got sent home from school because she was complaining about feeling sick. She hasn't actually been sick and she's eaten like a horse today, so I don't think there's anything wrong with her. I've been warned by one of the mums at the school gate that the school is fairly quick at sending dcs home if they're complaining, so I'm going to have to keep an eye on it to make sure dd1 doesn't work out that complaining gets her out of school (especially on P.E. days, because she hates P.E. apparently)

headless- glad work is going ok and that you feel appreciated . IKWYM about the pickup run and rush through to bedtime. If I have to pick up all the DCs, I finish work at 4.30, get DD from after school club, drive back for DS1/DS2 at nursery and home for about 5.30. DD has a quick tea, then DCs up for bath 6-6.15, and in bed for 7-7.15pm. DD complains about going to ASC but she has to go 3 nights a week and that's that. And she seems to enjoy it when she's there- she does baking, craft, or just watches TV if she's tired.

Well S was really hot and bothered at lunchtime and calpol wasn't working to bring his temp down. Our GPs don't have a surgery Thurs afternoons, so i called the local out-of-hours service. Then I had to go to work. They phoned DH back and said he was best to take S to the childrens hospital which is only a mile away. They checked him over and said he had a sore throat and just to keep dosing him up with calpol. He seemed a bit better at bedtime, just before he projectile vomited all over us. My bra/cleavage collected a lot of it like a big puddle . Better go- he's crying

belgina · 25/02/2010 20:57

dandy xpost. Lol @ the foil in microwave. I did the opposite once while babysitting as a teen. I put cling film over lasagna that was going into a table top oven thing that looked like a microwave. We had nice bit of thready molten plastic in our dinner, yum.

OP posts:
muddleddaizy · 25/02/2010 21:23

Dandy I feel suitably reprimanded re name checking I was also chuckling at your tin foil in the microwave story but stopped laughing when I remembered that I burnt ds2's food in the microwave the other night, melting the plastic bowl it was in . Unfortunately it was fish, so everytime I switch the blasted thing on we get the aroma of burnt fish through the house!!

Running & Headless glad your time back at work has gone well. Ses good luck for tomorrow!

Spring & Tummum sorry to hear you've been feeling low.

Hopalong Hope you got home safely! Ouch for all the hip stuff happening for you. I'm only 30 miles down the road from Malmesbury. Let me know if you need cheering up!

pula and febes hope your lo's are feeling better.

Llare I know what you mean about getting the lo's sleep sorted before returning to work - ds2 has been a nightmare this week. Sleeping next to his cot does NOT work. Dh and I are shattered.
Ds2 has his settling in session at nursery tom. It's only an hour so I'm taking ds1 for a cake!! Oh blast - just remembered I've got forms to fill in for tomorrow - got to go! Night all...

flippinegg · 25/02/2010 21:56

Really sorry, I'm not going to namecheck tonight, I'm tired and got sore eyes (second lot of counselling today, I cried ).

A's sleeping is still shocking, and now she's ill too. We had a really busy day, rhyme time at the library, met friends for lunch then I had to drop the girls with another friend so I could go to the counsellor. A was fine, good even, all day, but this evening she was getting grumbly while I was cooking tea, so as usual I put her in the sling on my back. 2 minutes she vomited all down my back, bleurgh. She was grumpy, hot and floppy, but after she was sick another time (another change of clothes for me, including bra!) she perked up a lot. So far this evening she's slept ok, so hope she's feeling better. We've been in contact with so many children and babies today, hope we haven't passed anything on.

essenceofSES · 25/02/2010 22:29

flippin - glad you managed to get to your session today but poor you and A this evening! Hope she's cleared whatever the problem was. Hope also that the counselling is helping. Often getting emotions out in itself can be helpful so I hope you feel you're making progress.
(Sorry, lots of hoping in that paragraph!)

Running & Headless - glad the first couple of days have been ok

Jael - sorry but I did chuckle at your DD. Clever girl (if a little mischievous!)

Febes - never been to Whitstable but from what Belgina says it sounds good!

muddled - hope settling in goes well tomorrow.

Thanks for all your good wishes for tomorrow I think my biggest challenge will be getting up and me & O ready on time. I don't know how those of you with more than one manage it.
DH is away tonight and not back til late tomorrow night so have to manage on my own. Shouldn't be a big deal but it's nice sometimes to just have someone else there IYKWIM.

Enjoyed my last day today shopping at Bluewater. I really wanted to get a black trouser suit for work but the only ones I found that I liked were £250+ and I couldn't justify it!
