Could I join this thread? My son was born in Jan 2009.

He is my second child but does that matter?

Lenni · 13/03/2010 22:07

Yay, AF arrived, finally, 7 days late that was getting a bit scary. I am very relieved but also a teeny teeny bit sad, although in a hormonal broodiness way rather than a genuinely wanting a baby way iyswim.

Teaandcake - If your name is literal rather than literary I believe you have found your spiritual home. You are very welcome, and it doesn't matter how many DCs you have or whether they were born in January, haha, there are at least 2 February babies on the thread and a couple of December ones too! They were due in January but came early/late, how old is your other child?

Pat - Was "mush" a deliberate typo? It would accurately describe what I will be served tomorrow either way! Your day sounds wonderful, hope you have a relaxing time tomorrow and are not woken too early for breakfast mush.

Must go, DH abandoned downstairs. Back soon.

moosemama · 13/03/2010 22:51

Hi all

Popping in as you've disappeared off my threads. Have tried to read the thread, but not managed to retain much.

First off, hello there teaandcakesplease and welcome. I have three, dcs, ds1 who will be 8 in April, ds2 who will be 6 in April and dd who was born on January 15th 2009.

So, still the house of plague here. Ds1 finished his abs, went back to school and promptly came down with Scarlet Fever again! So now he's back on the abs and it looks like they might be referring him to an ENT specialist, as its not normal to get SF more than once and he seems to be having real trouble fighting it off. He has also had to go back on gluten in preparation for his coeliac test in July, so we've been having an interesting time with him to say the least.

The rest of us all have a horrendous head cold, with the jelly legs, raging temps etc etc. So not much fun around here really.

I am currently in a flat spin trying to organise two boys birthday parties a week apart. The invitations have to go out early next week, as the parties are during the Easter holidays. Ordinarily that wouldn't be a problem, but ds1's party is going to be set up as a Secret Agent Training Camp, so the children have a bit of code cracking to do for the Secret Agent one before they can rsvp (They have to decipher their Secret Agent Name and Password and the location of the party.) and so each has a personalised 'file' along with an invite and unencrypted version for their parents. I'm also halfway through designing the 'Training Manual' for it, which has been fun, but much more work than I thought it would be. Nearly there now though and quite proud of my work really. [sad individual emoticon]

Ds2's Astronaut Training Academy is going to be a much simpler affair, as 6 year olds boys tend to be happy as long as they are kept active/busy. They are going to make alka selzer rockets, hunt moonrocks and have a bouncy castle to practice their zero gravity walking on.

Hope everyone is well, HKZ haven't forgotten about you needing dog bonding and recall advice, will get back to you as soon as my head clears, I promise.

MissJ, only thought I had about the pup was how high-energy a JRT x Collie is likely to be, especially if its farm-bred. So would most likely need lots of early training and to be kept busy. Am sure it would work well with your lifestyle though, especially if it could spend a good deal of time outdoors at the stables etc.

Anyway, I'll exit stage left again now having bored the pants off you all with my party plans. (Sorry, brain is sore and mushy so can't think of anything else to talk about. )

teaandcakeplease · 13/03/2010 22:54

Moosemama - your party planning sounds amazing! Get better soon, you and family x

Lenni - my DD is 2 and a half.

hackneyzoo · 13/03/2010 23:28

Still haven't caught up prpoperly...have felt very tired today, not sure if it had anything to do with a rather raucous friday night out that ended up with a few drinks with friends back at ours and going to bed far far too late...but miracle of miracles...DS slept through (Or we were in such a deep sleep that we slept through...not sure which }

Moose, poor you and your DCs, hope everyone is on the mend, especially DS1, Party planning sounds fab, DD is going to be three in April(where did my baby go?) So am going tohave to start getting some ideas together... all the 3 year old parties I have been to of late have been rather well thought out and sophisticated affairs, so think I might have to actually do some organising this year...rather than a ton of party food and a game of pass the parcel thrown in for luck.

MissJ, get a puppy. I love watching the Dcs with our dog. He is huge and the lovliest, most gentle animal ever. DS was lying on top of him snoozing today while DD was watching a DVD, it was very sweet, he was jsut giving him a cuddle and dropped off.

Lenni, am disappointed at your AF...was getting all excited there. Am super broody at the mo, DH and I are going to try for another baby in the next few months...need to read up on it as J and L just sort of happened...it feels strange to be planning this.

Tink, glad to see you have been having shopping successs.

Chef, maybe htere is osmething in the air with all the sleeping babies...I have to touch wood as I type this....I dream of DS dooing 7-7 every night.

Elkie Sending lots of love out to you and your mum and really hope it all goes well on Wednesday, keep us posted. How are C and D doing? Is C walking yet? I think I have th eonly non walker on the thread now!

Dog, congrats on walking smiler. Was looking at your FB pics to day, am so of you being by the sea... am really hoping we can move back to sea side this year I really miss it. How was the NCT sale? Sorry your SPD has kicked in? Will you see a physio about it?

120- Your babies are so good...I had two hours of watching Eastenders on catch up and listening to the archers...not a peep. I meant to ask does G do cleaning ever? My house is a mess and I really can't face it...might need her help one day soon!

Welcome teaandcakes, I have a DD who is nearly 3 and a DS born on 19th Jan.

Tree....where are you? Hope you are ok and not too knackered. Work is exhausting, am counting down the days until the school holidays. Have you got back into the swing of it? It must be hard doing long shifts. Lots of love to you anyway x

Hello to books and Pat too. Hope everyone else is good and enjoying the weekend.

morning all. have read through and retained pretty much nothing!

MJ - glad the brownies were a hit! We make them every fortnight or so as DP likes to take cakes in to work and they are very popular.

HK thank you so much for babysitting last night! Yes G does cleaning. She does 2 hours for me every week.

H started walking yesterday! He has been taking a few steps between people and things, but he did around 9 steps on his own. am a very proud mummy this morning!

was out for my mum's birthday meal at a local pizzeria!

spd sounds a nightmare. sick here too. again!!!

moosemama · 14/03/2010 14:09

Hello all

Am posting from my sick-bed/mothers day bed.

Boys both made me cards and bought me a book and some Thorntons chocolates. Dd bought me a Johnny Cash cd and ds1 made me a huge hama bead heart. They also made croissants from that bake yourself dough stuff this morning and brought me croissant, pain au chocolat and strawberries for breakfast. - Then they clobbered each other over the head and had a huge fight whilst sitting in bed with me - typical boys!

Dog, sorry to hear about the SPD, I had it with both boys really badly, but seemed to get off quite likely by comparison with dd. Poor you being sick on Mothers Day as well. Hope you get better soon.

Tink, yes it does seem like we always have some sort of bug in the house. I suppose when there's five of you and two keep bringing all the germs home from school its kinda inevitable iyswim. Roll on the warmer weather. We seem to have one or other or both of the boys off sick most of the winter but they never miss a day in the spring/summer terms.

Am a bit worried this morning as dd has developed a rash behind her ear, really hoping its not the first sign of scarlet fever. The gp assured me sf is rare in children under 4, but ds1 adores his sister so much that I have been constantly having to stop him kissing her over the past couple of weeks making his infecting her more likely, I presume.

So, I have finally been bullied into going agreed to go to the dreaded wedding with dh in August. A bit peeved really, as dh didn't book his holiday time for our summer holiday after we agreed the dates and now we have received their invitation and its smack bang in the middle of it, so will have to reschedule the holiday as dh really likes this friend and doesn't want to upset him.

As I have the day off, I have spent this morning perusing the sales of VERY EXPENSIVE designery type websites for suitable dresses as have been given permission to spend a fortune. Anyone got any ideas? Have looked at Jigsaw, NoaNoa, Great Plains, White Stuff (yuk) and lots of mixed designer type places and seen one or two things. I have up to £200 to play with thanks to my lovely dh, who says I need something special as I am so scared about going.

I'm not very good at choosing dresses, as they never seem to look right on me unless they are 1950s style nipped in waist and full skirts. I am a size 14, although hoping to be thinner by August with a large chest, slimish waist and huge big hips/thighs. I seriously hate my upper arms and legs, especially my knees, so they would need to be covered as much as possible. Quite like the stuff from Antik Batik, but think I probably need something more structured as loose stuff tends to be enlarging on me due to excess norkage!

Come on girls, find me the perfect dress, purleease!

Oh and dd is proper walking now too. She's done a few steps here and there before, but this past week has taken to walking the whole length/width of the room and forgetting herself and walking up to me when she is concentrating on somthing else, or wants to show me something. The look on her face when she does that is priceless, like "Huh? How did I get here?"

Am very at all these sleeping babies. Can't remember the last decent night's sleep we had, what with all these poorly children cluttering up the place!

Dog I have two rear facing seats now as dd tried out one and overnight became a good traveller, was sooo bad before it is a bit of a miracle. She has a britax two way elite which is 9-36kg so group 0+ to 3 and is low to the seat no big base so she doesn't lose toys and things which has made a big difference. I wouldn't recommend it for a toddler though as v roomy. Ds has a besafe isofix which is great for us buy quite bulky, I can fit a highback booster between their seats though an plenty of room for me to sit in between them. There is a britax rear facing infant seat that turns to forward face can't remember what it is called though. I def prefer them rearfacing, obv meant to be safer but my two travel so much better like that.

Catch up on rest later.

Waves to moose, good to hear from you.

On phone sorry for typos

moosemama · 14/03/2010 15:45

Just read my post back talk about me me me! Sorry folks

Something to do with being trapped in the house with sick kids for weeks on end methinks - will try harder, promise.

Lenni · 14/03/2010 15:46

That should say tiddler not toddler btw

teaandcakeplease · 14/03/2010 16:54

I thought your post was ok Lenni

My boy has got a D & V and off his food. He's a big boy and been walking for ages. Any recommendations on food to try. He's not eaten barely a thing today or yesterday?

Happy Mothers Day btw too x

moosemama · 14/03/2010 17:09

Tea, poor ds. Have you tried the BRAT diet? Apparently its recommended for little ones recovering from d&v.

The BRAT comes from Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast.

I think they are supposed to be gentle on the digestion and, er, binding iyswim. They are also generally well liked by little ones. Not sure mine would go for the rice, well not unless I mixed it with the applesauce or banana.

I would think that as long as he's keeping his fluids up he should be ok and will start eating again when he's ready though.

My dcs always want toast when they've had bad stomachs and if they're reluctant a bit of fruit puree or preserve seems to tempt them into it.

Hope he feels better really soon.

MsSparkle · 14/03/2010 17:41

hackneyzoo · 14/03/2010 18:24

Moose....Get Cutie Amazing dresses, made to order toy our measurements....I love these dresses. Also, in the Toast archive sale they had a gorgeous blue silk 1950's style dress, beautiful neck line, gathered waist...it was lovely, it might crop up on ebay. here too but the colours are not that exciting...I like the tokyo ditzy one.

Hope everyone has had a nice mother's day... it was pretty much a non event here, but did have a few friends round for a lovely long lunch and am now lying on the sofa unable to move!

Hope all the poorly DCs and Mums are feeling better. Can't wait for winter to be over and to say good bye to allthese bugs and colds (and hello to hayfever )

Have job interview tomorrow so have to be good this evening and read up on stuff so I don't sound like a complete twit tomorrow. Eeek.

PatTheHammer · 14/03/2010 20:31

Hello all, HZ good luck for tomorrow, didn't know you were going for another job!

Dog- boo-hiss for NCT sale, I find some stuff really overpriced there sometimes. The toys and books are uauslly better value.

moose- good luck with the dress, I always like Monsoon,John Lewis or Oasis (all great for big hips). I would keep an eye out on ebay if I were you.

Teaandcake- welcome to the thread You won't feel out of place here with a big boy, most of the lads on here are fairly hefty iirc! Hope DS better soon, we also use the BRAT diet as Moose describes, although DD likes plain apple slices (best to avoid the juice though I think that has the opposite effect)

Lenni- Yay to AF arriving, or not remember the pact!!!!!!!!!!!! Just found out my SIL expecting again, her DS is 11mths so about a 20mth age gap for them, very exciting! She always said she had such an awful delivery she would never do it again, doesn't take long to forget does it!

Feeling a bit squiffy after a beer and profiterole dessert so going to bed in a sec.

Bad times at lunch today, morning was so lovely, brekkie was a bolied egg at 8.15am so nic e lie-in and got some posh toiletries which was nice. Anyway, pub was lovely and DC's layed happily whilst we ordered and waited for meal. When food came out it was like somebody flicked a switch with Z, he wailed and wailed and screamed and would not be appeased. I took him outside as I was so and worried too. He still wouldn't shut up, tried boob, not having it. DH and DD ate there meal and then I ate mine in the garden quickly whilst he wailed at DH for a bit, we then paid and left sharpish and he screamed for 15mins in the car before finally giving in and sleeping on the way to MIL.

When he awoke 30mins later (I sat with him in car on drive) he was absolutley bloody fine and ate a sanwich/cheese/fruit and everything at MIL's.

Just never heard him cry like that, or known him refuse any food before......................so weird, he eats out with us regularly and totally loves it usually.

Anyway, he was horrendous last night and I'm expecting the same tonight so going to have to get some sleep I think!

Hi to 120, Tink and everyone else. hope everyone enjoyed their 'special day'!

PatTheHammer · 14/03/2010 20:33

played, can't be bothered to correct other typos..............too tired!

teaandcakeplease · 15/03/2010 07:53

The BRAT idea sounds good. Shall give it a go, he's still an unhappy boy today

tinkstoddleriswalking · 15/03/2010 09:07
