New thread idea good jfly!

See what I did, now we are two - for those with new number 2 and expecting number 2.

And all the rest of us who get at least 2 tantrums a day from the 2 year olds.

cryhavoc · 01/11/2010 09:25

Yep, that's me. Not to worry!

Good luck with the potty training. I have tried, but she is just not ready. Perfectly happy in her own filth, and utterly lacking in urgency (which I think has come from me). How is your course going?

turtle23 · 01/11/2010 10:07

Somebody tell me why I had to go and look at P's throat?

littleducks · 01/11/2010 11:13

Ooops Blush well good luck with the pox!

We have a tradition of chicken pox cake here, on the last day (when child is feeling well enough to go out and needs constant entertaining but they are still technically contagious) we make a big cake, with icing covered in 'smartie spots'

Though it may just be my kids that go hyper instead of sleepy on piriton/medised etc Hmm

I am enjoying my course but it is heavy going, we have our first assessed test in two weeks Shock am on reading week atm, hence the potty training. I 'missed' half term last week but as dd has two inset days im covering this week and dh took last week as annual leave.

Ds settling well at nursery who seem to have him sussed. We are having 'snacktime' atm (children of routine my kids) and he is eating a clementine Shock this is the child that since weaning has refused fruit and veg due to the texture. Apparently calling them satsumas same as nursery swings it Hmm

pantshavenames · 01/11/2010 15:53

Also on day 3 of potty training here...not a huge success so far tho' a 50/50 success rate at nursery which is far better than I'm managing here so we will stick with it for a little longer. TBH it's more that it's a convenient time for me than I think DD is really up for it which might make it harder. And I've decided to still use pull ups for things like the school run just to stop me stressing too much about playground catastrophes.
I think toilet training is the sure fire way to kill all broodiness.
I'm in shock... had eye test today and need glasses! only because of an unhealthy addiction to mumsnet a quite computer-oriented job. that I could cope with but the the optician said that in 5 years time I'll probably need them for reading too. I keep on thinking of a colleague who says wait until you're 50 and you can't keep track of the things that are falling apart and I feel I'm looking the beginning of the end...

Dontpanic · 02/11/2010 13:47

Hi all
speedy recovery hugs to your sick kiddies...from a safe distance Wink

I'm running on empty at the mo, can't wait to jack in the day job & do full time hypno, but need a severe cash injection up front before that'll ever happen. Can't even summon up inspiration for a blog this week, sigh.
Still, it's a better situation to be in than many, so chin up and all that :)

We are pox free still, E has an opthalmic appt in a couple of weeks to see what can be done re his inherited lazy eye, and I'm keeping an eye on a patch on his back ...hoping it's just a spot that he's scratched, but looks suspiciously mole shaped & is getting red & inflamed by evening. Only saw it at the weekend for first time.

turtle23 · 06/11/2010 08:04

Just stopping in to say hello. I am well on my way to being ready to move, have got T to take a bottle from other people AND from me so the end is in sight, am ridiculously in love and am signing divorce papers TODAY. Oh and I accepted a doulaing job in June so am going to have to sort childcare out and get back into work mode.

Pascal is ready for potty training but am thinking just before a house move may not be wise. And he's still wobbly from operation. And we're on holiday for the whole of December. I will find more excuses, I'm sure...

Tristan is 1 a week from Monday. :(

That's all the news from me. I think.

megonthemoon · 09/11/2010 18:12

Oh I like the sound of all of that Turtle :)

Pants - you've done well to get to now without needing glasses. I'd wrecked my eyes by the time I was 10!

Littleducks - LOLing at your DS. My DS is the same - he just said he wouldn't eat his sausage for tea as it was "too salty" Hmm so I sliced it differently to normal and he ate it all!

Ah potty training - hope it's going well. Tried DS in July before the baby arrived - he got it at home in 3 days but had zero successes everywhere outside including nursery, and didn't even notice Confused, so we abandoned it. I predicted he would be super keen about a week before DD was born which of course happened but there was no way I was doing it then. And now he doesn't seem to care. I'll try again next time he seems keen, otherwise we'll just do it anyway in the new year as I am sick of dealing with 2 lots of nappies now.

All going well here. I'm loving having 2 and love watching DS with DD. He's already got the protective older brother thing going on - when his BFF at nursery dares to even just look at DD, Leo tells her to go away and keeps saying "She's my baby, not yours!" Had 6 week check today and all is well (apart from DD's continuing newborn acne :(). To celebrate I put DD in her first ever dress (and only the 3rd pink thing she has ever worn!) - photo on Facebook. I'm finding it very hard to think of her as a girl TBH. She looks exactly like DS at the same age and mostly wears his hand-me-downs so I'm really struggling with a permanent sense of deja vu! I thought I wouldn't really dress her in pink as I find most girl baby stuff twee and vomit inducing prefer other colours, but I think I need to for a while just so my brain can compute that she isn't a clone of DS!

turtle23 · 13/11/2010 16:25

Opinions please...this man has one major flaw and I don't know if I can live with it. I know it is possible that I could get it to change, but...
(Oh the horror)
He does the apostrophe thing. Am sure is not that big a deal to some...but....sob....

timmyinatizzy · 16/11/2010 22:34

Turtle, I cannot stand people who cannot use punctuation and apostrophe's correctly. However when you are together would he be likely to be writing to you? It could be something that you could turn a blind eye too?

Many apologies for not posting for ages, I tend to update Facebook more.

DS and I had a lovely holiday in Florida with my parents in October. We left DH at home with the DSD's, as they have only just started Senior School and felt it was important for them not to miss any school. For 2 whole weeks I did not have to think about washing, cooking, making packed lunches, ironing school blouses, checking homework had been done it was bliss! Think it made DH appreciate what I do for them on a daily basis.

We started our second go of potty training over the August Bank Holiday weekend. He seemed to get it apart from the poo. That took weeks for it to click. Thankfully DS is normally a once a day pooer. I suppose being at nursery helped as there were others to copy. He still has his bad days, like yesterday, but then he can go days without any kind of accident.

I'm starting to get broody again, 2 more people in my post natal group have announced their second pregnancies. But I know that we really haven't got room or the money, yet, to have another. I'm still clinging on to our (my) plan to have another when DS starts school, but it seems such a long way away.

Hope everyone is well. Loving seeing Ewe's updates from New York. Would love to go back one day.

Jfly - not long to go now. Will be checking here and FB for status updates in a few weeks time. Good luck x.

Ewe · 28/11/2010 15:20

Hi all, lost this thread so just posting briefly to get it back on my radar and will update properly later!

Dontpanic · 29/11/2010 23:29

are we all still alive then? :)

ilovegreenbeans · 30/11/2010 20:22

still here although haven't posted in aaaages Blush

We're in Canada right now but heading to Ipswich in January! Can't remember if any of you are nearby...

Looking forward to your news JFly :)

The DDs are lovely, H is such a grown up girl lately, potty trained, imagination gone wild etc... and A is sleeping(finally!!!!), eating and generally gorgeous.

xx

littleducks · 30/11/2010 20:26

still alive (just!)

Ewe · 01/12/2010 17:39

We are doing pretty well with potty training here too, a couple of weeks in and the occasional accident (mainly at nursery, I suspect they don't pay quite as much attention as we do at home). We have REALLY enjoyed the snow, with a couple of snow days this week although I am really ready to go back to work tomorrow.

Things are really chaotic here with work, DD, uni and the internship I have been doing. Plus an essay deadline on Monday! I am the queen of procrastination Grin

New York was amazing, I could really imagine myself living there... or should I say, I wish I had lived in NY pre-DD. It's such an amazing city and I really do get that feeling when I enter Manhattan. Suspect it's not plan A with a little one though!

Landlord has put my rent up 20% if I want to renew so think J and I will be finally taking the leap and all of us moving into the flat he bought earlier this year. Will be treating it as a trial period and seeing how we get on!

What are you getting the little people for Christmas? We've so far bought a Tinkerbell outfit and dolly and Rose Cottage Doll House thingy from ELC. I will get her a few more little bits but not going to go too mad - everyone else seems to do that for us!

Dontpanic · 01/12/2010 19:15

Just in case you hadn't heard, Jfly had a little boy yesterday on her due date, 7lb 4... crash c-section but both fine.
No doubt she'll fill us in on the details (& name) when she gets a chance to recover! Grin

megonthemoon · 02/12/2010 11:33

Lovely news from JFly! Can't wait to hear what name they've picked as I'm a big fan of G's (it's my DS's middle name) so I'm expecting a good one!

Loads of snow here (we're not far from Gatwick). Using being housebound as excuse to try potty training again. We tried in July and he got it at home but not at all at nursery so we decided to put it off until after he was settled with DD. Have 5 days before nursery again so hoping we can crack it here and see how he gets on there next week now he's that bit older.

DD is so lovely at the moment - alert, smiley, cuddly and very even-tempered. She finally got rid of her horrendous newborn acne so expect more photos on Facebook now :) She gave us one uninterrupted night on Monday which was bliss :o, but that appears to have been a blip!

Ewe - I was so jealous of your trip - I love NYC. Not been in about 10 years but spent a lot of my teens and early 20s there as cousins lived there (since moved to Florida) and then I worked in Boston for a while so hopped onto the shuttle at every opportunity!

Timmy - your holiday sounds lovely! What bliss to have no jobs to do and return home to a more appreciative DH!

LD - how has the move gone and how is the course going?

crashfistfight · 03/12/2010 22:04

Yes, lovely news Jfly!

Well, long time no see

We are doing pretty well all in all. DD just might get the hang of potty training yet, had a friend over today who's sussed it and DD was mesmerized into following her lead so maybe this weekend we will give it another go.

Little DS is nearly 5 months old! He is super duper cute and lovely. He started that high pitched squeek-squawk thing yesterday and keeps sending me into fits with it.

Am excited about christmas, have started making up all kinds of lies stories about elves and the like which bear absolutely no resemblance to Christmas As We Know it but keeps me from losing my mind entertained.

Has anyone heard of/participate in the St. Nikolaus thing with the boots? I am half german so will be latching onto this tradition where you put a boot out your front door on the 4th of December and the next morning its filled with nuts fruits and chocolates....

So, for Christmas we are not getting too many things for the kids knowing that they will get so many things from family etc., like you Ewe.

I got DD a marble run, some huge cardboard building blocks, another UglyDoll and a few random bits. DP is getting her a couple thing too (we buy separately so the other one is surprised when they are opened)

greetings to everyone, Congrats again Jfly!

ps. where has MerryBerry gone???? I miss your banter

JFly · 04/12/2010 11:45

Hello everyone! Glad to see some of you have come out from under the snow to say hi.

Thanks for good wishes. DS2 was born on Nov 30th (due date). I was planning a VBAC but unfortunately everything went tits up in exactly the same was as DS1. I had ANOTHER EFFING placental abruption and ended up with a crash c-section under GA. It was pretty horrendous.

Thankfully, baby and I are absolutely fine. I was only in hospital for 2 hours before I had him, so they caught it immediately. As much as I wanted things to be different and more "natural" this time, I am so thankful for modern medicine!

We came home on Thursday and are just finding our feet. My doula comes back on Monday to start PN help, and I'm looking forward to putting my feet up. Had to send DH up for a nap yesterday. Apparently it's quite tiring taking care of a toddler 24/7! Hmm

Anyway, DS2 is gorgeous but nameless, still. We're waiting for inspiration, I guess. We've given ourselves until today to decide on the first name (at least!). Names are hard!

ilovegreenbeans · 04/12/2010 13:46

Oh well done JFly. So glad you're both safe and yes, v thankful for modern medicine! (it's funny, the DDs' births had horrible things gone wrong similarities too that made me so glad we'd gone to hospital instead of birth centre.)

Good luck with the name!

merryberry · 05/12/2010 14:15

hello again! congrats again jfly:)
will pop by and read and catch up during the week. have various things doing a boil/bake/dry/cookathon thing downstairs.

OP posts:
Ewe · 06/12/2010 12:24

Congratulations JFly!

Sorry to hear the birth didn't go as planned, safe and well baby and you is the main thing though, make sure you take it easy. Can't imagine having a c-section and toddler to look after to boot, hard enough with just a newborn!

Does the little fella have a name yet?

Lovely to see everyone around, we really should try and organise a meet up in the new year when Christmas chaos is done and dusted.

timmyinatizzy · 06/12/2010 13:23

Ewe - You mean snow, not Christmas Chaos? I've seen enough of the stuff to last me a few years. On the plus side I got to spend a couple of days mooching at home, and took DS out to the local soft play with friends. At its height we had very nearly 18 inches of the white stuff Xmas Sad

I am too waiting to hear what JFly has called the new arrival. Loved her DS1's name.

Ewe · 06/12/2010 14:53

The snow has been crazy, DD liked it at first but even she bored of it pretty damn quickly!

Oh I meant to say JFly, I know someone who had a little DS last week and she has named her little boy the same name as your big DS! (and she's a little bit famous, you're so ahead of the curve).

JFly · 06/12/2010 15:39

You what?! Ewe, that is a surprise about DS's name. I'm a bit Hmm. Hope they don't start a trend! :)

I think we have decided on a name, but need to just confirm it all tonight with DH.

I miss the snow. Having not left the house since last Tuesday, it made me feel all Christmassy and festive. Now it's just a bit dreary out in the garden.

Am getting out tomorrow for DS's nursery play. Should be quite amusing, he's a snowman. Bless.

timmyinatizzy · 06/12/2010 22:06

Ewe - Do tell?
