Hope this has worked...

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ursigurke · 20/02/2010 17:53

As usual, I am unable to remember everything I wanted to say yesterday evening before Paula "called" me but I'll do my best.
btw, thanks Pav . I actually think I'm more the person who starts talking about something and ends with something else. I sometimes reread my posts before actually putting them on and I usually have to erase a lot.
You really have been through a lot in the last couple of days! Glad to hear, that Reuben is obviously well but I can only imagine the shock you must have had! I guess, your positive court experience suddenly was less important but congratulations on that. I hope mediation will help you to get what you need.
Do you think there is a chance to retrain and become a lawyer? I'm sure everyone on here will agree that you would be a very good one. But I suppose going for a new career isn't easy when you have to support a family.

TTC, you do have to have sex for that, don't you? Well, we want to have more than 1 child (I want 2, husband a football team) and I just have forgotten that I barely manage with one but I am still so not interested in any sexual activities. I thought the first couple of times will be strange and just have to be done to get over it but still no interest. I think it is just never right, either I am tired or still have to finish some work or Paula isn't sleeping,... During the week there is never time for it and on the weekend it feels like it has to be done NOW, so that doesn't help to relax or enjoy. I suppose I would like to first go back enjoying it without just having conceiving in mind.

getting-back-in-shape. Not that I am already back in shape but the mummy tummy homepage nomorexcuses.wordpress.com/2009/10/14/the-mummy-tummy-what-works/ someone on this thread had posted, seemed to help in my case.

feeding-weaning. I'm exclusively breastfeeding, (unfortunately) not even bottles of ebm and also feeding on demand but I think I will go mostly the traditional way for weaning. First of all, I'd rather wait 6 months and then I will introduce one ingredient after the other. The theory that the digestive system needs time to develop sounds reasonable to me and I suppose in some cases it can be done earlier without any problems but I think Paula does have problems with certain foods already so it might be better to wait a little.
In fact, there is a theory that you should introduce certain foods early to avoid allergies. I had got an invitation to take part in a study here but as I am rather convinced by the opposite, I really didn't want Paula to be a guineapig.
The idea of introducing one after the other to see if there are any allergic reactions sounds very clever too.

co-sleeping. Paula sleeps in our room but from the beginning in a cot. As she has sleeping problems lately I sometimes take her into our bed where she sleeps much better. I really find it interesting that some babies seem to sleep much better in their own room, as in her case it seems to be the opposite. And she never seems to be disturbed when we go to bed.
She will probably stay with us for very long as the layout of our flat is a bit strange. We do have 2 bedrooms but you have to cross the smaller one (which is also next to entrance and street) to get to the larger one. So if we seperate, Paula will get the bigger one and we will have to move to the smaller. This will be interesting when we actually really have another baby.

vomitting. As I mentioned yesterday evening, Paula used to vomit little portions but often. Now she had a couple of days when it was quite a lot. I wonder if it was something I had eaten, there were a couple of dangerous things (like curry) but I had them before too. Most of the incidents happen actually when she is overexcited about something and moving with arms and legs. Is she vomitting because she is moving too much? Or even the opposite, moving to be able to vomit? Today was better, so I hope it was only something I had eaten. I wouldn?t even know how to give her any kind of medication as she refuses bottles or dummies.

Ok, there have been other things I wanted to comment on but I can?t quite remember. I guess, this post is long enough anyway. If you managed to read until the end: Thank you very much for your attention
Have a lovely evening and Sunday everybody!

misssese · 20/02/2010 20:55

ursigurke I got invited to take part in that study too?? How did they get our details is it a london thing? I read up on it but like you didn't want Pearl trying out something that was possibly unsafe!
hobnob think we will use the motherease now and again may as well now we have it! I have been researching nappies all day think i am nearly a pro! hehe
brood is lukas still sleeping in the nest or in a cot now? Think we will get that bouncer too looks rather fun!

ursigurke · 20/02/2010 21:36

obviously I forgot something:
I've read several times that all those door bouncer and "walking aid" things are bad for development and can cause postural deformity too. I guess it depends on how much time they spend in them but I just wanted to let you know.

missese, I guess it's a London thing. Probably they got our details from the hospitals.

misssese · 20/02/2010 21:42

ursigurke how cheeky of them!! Thanks for the info on the door bouncer! Which hospital were you at?

scarlotti · 20/02/2010 22:16

ursi the door bouncers and walkers are ok as long as they're not in them for too long. Problems occurred as some were being left in them for hours on end. As a short play type activity they are fine.

missease I got a selection of a few different types of reusables, but we haven't gone down that route. Was going to put them on ebay but if you're interested then let me know. There are some tots bots and some motherease, about 7 nappies in total. I'll go find out what they are if you like as I can't remember!

Brood if Lukas can roll over on to his front, then he can roll back or at least to his side so you don't need to worry anymore. The advice to put them on their back is so if they get into difficulty and can't roll themselves they don't come a cropper.

Very envious of the sleep here. Have bought bigger teats today and going to see if that helps. Next idea then is to use the hungrier baby formula for the 10pm feed. All I want is for the 2am feed to go back to around 5am, as then we'll be back to one waking a night. Am struggling with the lack of sleep and don't really get much help here to compensate. Ioan only sleeps for 40 mins at a time, unless I'm out with him in the buggy, so no chance of napping either.
Am starting to forget my own name!!

Sorry to hear some of you are struggling, can't remember you all but sleepless hope Charlotte starts to improve soon.
Ioan seemed to be more grumpy after his jabs last Wednesday and was quite warm. Am hoping that's easing off now as he struggles to sleep in the early hours. Let's hope this bottle knocks him out now!!

SirBoobAlot · 21/02/2010 06:09

Brood if he can roll onto his front is okay to leave him from what I've read, as he'll be able to roll back. Can't believe he's 20 weeks!!

ursigurke · 21/02/2010 09:27

venus, how is James? Did the gaviscon help? Do you think, it could actually have been something you ate? I reckon it might have been the case with Paula because we had no problems at all yesterday.
missese, I was in st mary's at paddington. it's part of the imperial college trust. I think the study would have been in st Thomas.I don't know where they belong to.
But now that I think of it... the hospital had got my address wrong and I think it never really got corrected. Midwifes and HVs kept looking for me at the wrong address. So I'm not sure where they got it from. I was also wondering if they sent it to every woman who had just given birth or if they knew that I was exclusively breastfeeding as this was one of the conditions.

Laugs · 21/02/2010 09:41

I intend to introduce one food at a time too. Not sure how this would work with BLW? DD and I are both atopic though, so I won't be taking any risks. TBH the traditional puree route worked well for us last time. As far as I remember, I wasn't pureeing for long and pretty soon she was eating the same meal as the rest of us, either blended or mashed or cut up (depending on stage) which I was really happy about. Someone did buy me an Annabel Karmel type book, but I don't think I ever used it. Beyond the simple purees it just seemed like a way to make life difficult.

Skorpion The BF is definitely better, thanks. I'm so glad it is for you too. I can't believe how long it took us! This is definitely one for my CV on unTransferable Skills I Gained in Motherhood. One-handed typing being another!

Sleepless I didn't wake him! Maybe today, eh?

PavlovtheCat · 21/02/2010 10:02

Weaning I remember a long standing mantra on here regarding weaning - 'Food is Fun until they are One'. Which i quite like, removes a lot of pressure to get them eating this and that, they get their main nutrition from milk until then as said by someone else (sorry can't remember who and only read it a few mins ago!).

fitness i have just sold all my maternity clothes on ebay (i will buy more if we have another ) and a couple of newborn things and made £100! Great as most of it was bought from ebay in the first place! So, i have bought a winter wetsuit, new with tags for £50 (Gul Steamer, is £160 new!), and now buying boots and roof rack, been given gloves from a friend - so my fitness is going back out on the kayak! I need a new blade for the kayak but will have to wait for that. We went to the beach yesterday, the weather was glorious, just a little cool in the air, water was still, and sparkly and i was soooo envious of the 4 canoeists in the water....it will be me soon! Other exercise is just not going to happen!

Oh and an ebay tip. Occasionally Boden have a sale on. When this happens by some stuff for your babies/toddlers really cheaply. It sells for a bomb on ebay! I just sold a big button dress of DDs. I bought it for £10, reduced from something like £25, it has been worn lots (said as much on listing) and it sold for £16! £16! . We have several mini boden clothes which i bought stupidly cheap in their sale, which still fit her, DH is all for whipping them off her now and selling them

sleeping Reuben is asleep on me. For some reason he is not wanting to sleep in his basket, he squeals like in pain or discomfort, i personally think its a realisation that if he does this he will end up on me . I wonder if it has anything to do with his newfound half rolling! So i have not had much sleep and DD was up early, watching Totoro in bed with us at 6:30am! Loooong gone are the sunday lie-ins although a couple of friends of ours (one set of children's godparents) have said that they need DD over for a sleep over soon, so we are going to do it in a couple of weeks, they will have DD from saturday morning til sunday lunch time when we will meet them and go for a pub lunch and a walk before bringing DD home. Means a nice bit of time in bed if Reuben will sleep!

BeckyBendyLegs · 21/02/2010 10:57

Ooooh Pavlov you've inspired me to try to sell some of my Isabella Oliver maternity clothes esp that pink dress I bought off ebay for a wedding! I'd like to make a bit of money. I also have a box of 0-3 month clothes Toby never even wore as he lived in baby grows for his first three months and he recieved lots of clothes such as jeans and tops. I just didn't bother dressing him in the day! Ooooh money!

skorpion · 21/02/2010 10:58

My way back to fitness will hopefully be cycling. I haven't been out for months and months (last August I think...) and miss it sooo much. I'm very excited because my sister is coming over for a week and promised to look after Lucy for us for a few hours so it will be our time to go cycling! There's a lovely route around Banbury that should take a couple of hours plus lunch on the way. We haven't had time just the two of us since she was born so really looking forward to it. I also had the urge to go powerwalking, must use it before it goes...

pavlov when do you think you'll get to do kayaking? Must be glorious in good weather - enjoy. And that's a fab tip - thanks.

laugs I just wish I'd known before that it would be difficult. Would have saved me a lot of guilt and feeling inadequate... Glad we stuck with it, well done!

sirboob fantastic new name!

brood I can't believe he's 20 weeks!!!

I hope you enjoy your Sunday - dh is out cycling and we have a chicken to roast later. And I really need to blitz the house, my sister's manages to look clean and she has three kids to look after. Shame on me!

misssese · 21/02/2010 11:17

ursigurke I was at hommerton in hackney. Also exclusively breastfeeding! So could be that? Do you think many people will join it?

scarlotti that would be great! Either let me no on here or via facebook ( I'm scarlet sanders).

Was just wondering the inspiration behind everyone pick their MN usernames?

PavlovtheCat · 21/02/2010 11:18

skorpion i have plans of nipping down to the beach, like yesterday, feeding the boy, DH can play with him and build castles with DD while i nip off for a paddle round the mewstone not far from me , then nip back, feed the boy, drink some soup. Am I dreaming?

Or, feed the boy, nip out all on my own for 2 hours for a paddle on lopwell dam

skorpion · 21/02/2010 11:41

pavlov that looks blissful. What a beautiful part of the country you live in. I hope dream becomes reality on a regular basis.

misssese mine's just Polish spelling of my star sign. TBH I often wish I'd been a bit more creative. It's a good question, I often wondered that myself.

BeckyBendyLegs · 21/02/2010 11:56

nipping to the beach

Laugs · 21/02/2010 12:07

That does look amazing Pavlov. I guess I will have to get in shape again this time as no more kids planned. Our local swimming pool is due to reopen next month after 18 months closed. I can't wait! It's only a 5 min walk away and I find swimming so calming. I am rubbish at every other sport.

missesse my nickname's just what my parent's used to call me as a child. What is yours? Wish I'd been more creative too. I didn't realise I would be on here so much when I joined!

scarlotti You sound exhausted, poor thing. Has DH stepped up at all since you've contacted Relate? How about moving the bottle feed from 10pm to 2am, then asking DH to do it half the time? Maybe DD could help out with some chores too (for extra pocket money?). Hope you get some rest today. x

Oh, I bought a Boden cardi for DS in a charity shop yesterday. I'd already bought it when I saw the label and then thought, 'God, so Mumsnet!', although I guess it's more Mumsnet to buy it new and pass it on to charity . I'd never even heard of Boden before I came on here. It's a lovely cardi though.

Laugs · 21/02/2010 12:10

I often wonder if Becky's legs are really bendy. And which way they bend.

VenusInfers · 21/02/2010 12:19

ursi He's fine again now, so didn't have to essay the Gaviscon again. You can give it to them off a spoon if they don't take bottles, which could work for Paula if you need to give her anything. I think it may have had something to do with me feeling off a day and a bit before due to some slightly undercooked pork. Suspect I may not have been quite hygenic enough in the bathroom and transfered a bug to him . The main thing is that he's feeding normally again and I'm now getting through twice as much soap at the handbasin.

pav that kyaking looks fantastic! Out on the water, the breeze in your hair and the soft slap of water on the side of your craft.... lovely. And what fab exercise for those core muscles. Think I'll start running again soon. At the old house I'd got to be able to do a 3 mile run in 24 mins (which I was amazingly pleased about) but will have to find a whole new route from here. In theory once baby is sleeping longer on a regular basis it should be possible to get out and back before my DH goes to work.

missease I'm using the bumgenius ones and have found them very easy to wash. They cope with poo just fine and dry overnight so that I only need to wash them every other day. I do still use a disposable overnight while LO is still feeding in the night to avoid risking a leak, but otherwise not. Changing from disposables to reusables was actually much easier than I thought it would be, you get used to it really quickly.

claire how was the OU? Must be hard doing without milk etc, but if it means you avoid splashy sick it must be a no brainer!

Tamlin · 21/02/2010 13:57

I think reusable nappies do leave their bottoms feeling a bit damper than the disposables, but on the bright side, that's apparently why they train faster - they connect weeing with wetness. Mine never seem bothered by being in a nice warm wet nappy, I must say - although I do use the thin paper liners that you can buy at Boots.

Pav, am also jealous of the sound of that kayaking. I really miss being out on the water.

I'm laughing at the people already contemplating having another one - good grief, you lot, when DS 1 was this age, I was swearing tearfully that I was done. I think we are really done this time as we only ever wanted two, but I am a little regretful about it - the baby is just so lovely, and I am really enjoying him. Except for last night, when I managed to sleep for a cumulative total of four and a half hours - the dread four month sleep regression has hit, and with a vengeance. Everyone please cross fingers that it's shortlived, because I'm very outnumbered by tots over here...

Incidentally, my screen name is what my inlaws kept calling me when they first met me (along with Tasman, Thompson etc). Apparently my name never crossed the Atlantic, and they find it freakishly outlandish.

claired21 · 21/02/2010 14:29

My name is extremely unimaginative but I've always been rubbish at these things. Pub quiz team names is a nightmare. Stumbled upon quizakabusi once so that's our usual choice. I will try to think of a better nickname though, would be nice to be a bit more anonymous!

Venus the tutorial was great, thanks! I thought I was brave starting a course with a 12wk old baby. Imagine my surprise to discover a fellow student is expecting in march!! Glad it's not me. I miss my weetabix and cereal in the mornings but can still have milk in my tea so it seems to be mild anyway. hobnob did you have tests to tell you what foods to eat or avoid? TBH it was you mentioning the milk which made me realise that's what was causing ethan's splashy sick. It's like there's a wee monster in his tum who collects all the nice feed then waits til he's finished and throws it all out again.

claired21 · 21/02/2010 14:55

PS nappies I couldn't get rid of Ethan's nappy rash entirely while he was in disposables but now in reusables it has cleared up completely. Their bums will be a bit clammy as reusables don't have the gel core to suck everything away but I think as they're so much more breathable, it's still better for their skin.

misssese · 21/02/2010 15:56

My MN name is DP's nickname for me Sese. SES are my initials,DP surname is Ellis ( if we do get married il keep my name and add his on ). I was going to call myself miss scarlet but that was taken and like you laugs didn't think I would be on here that often

VenusInfers glad you like bumgenius have you found them to be bulky at all?

pav iv been doing a bit of selling on ebay and got my money back on the things i have bought. So rather pleased, will add it too my nappy fund! Good advice too!!

claired thanks for the info i passed it on to DP, he isnt too sure about using washable nappies so i keep trying to convince him with postivie info!hehe

I feel for those of you those little one's are struggling with reflux or feeding issues, it must be such a worry! When Pearl had jaundice I was very panicked about her feeeding, luckily that didn't last too long! Do you find it difficult to cut out the foods you need to avoid? I am a milk addict so would really struggle to cut that out!!

Loving all the reasons behind the MN names!!

sleeplessinthecity · 21/02/2010 16:41

Well laugs????? did you wake him????? she asks, jealous of day time nappers!! I love Boden esp for the kids..does that make me sad! oops

Misssese I truly am sleepless but happy at the same time!! DH chose it when we had DD1 and on day 3 we had no idea what was happening so he logged on to mumsnet to ask a question about bfing..

Scarotti thanks for that. I hope Ioan is better after his jabs. How are you doing? LEt me know how you get on with hungry baby milk? how much is he drinking at 10pm??

scarlotti · 21/02/2010 18:04

Hi all

Am just going to answer the things I can remember, and not try to have to think about who asked!!

Ioan has had his first lot of calpol today. He woke around 5am really congested and so couldn't sleep properly. By 2pm the poor boy had barely slept and was suffering. Calpol and some milk sorted him out and allowed him to get a few hours kip, he's so much brighter now. I managed to get dh to have him for 2 hours this morning so feeling a little better but still tired.
DD helps out a lot at home (can't remember who asked) and tbh I couldn't do it all without her. I don't ask her to do any more than she does as it's not fair, they're not her dc's.
sleepless he used to take around 5oz at 10pm but the last few nights it's dropped to 3 or 4 oz. I suspect it's because he's now eating again at 2 and 5. Going to try the hungry baby milk tonight and see if that helps. Theory is that even if he doesn't take any more in quantity, the milk will satisfy him for longer and so then he'll reverse this cycle he's got into. That's the theory anyway
Can't remember who asked, but I'd rather carry on with the 10pm feed and shift the other night feeds as eventually I'll get to sleep from 10:30 until 7am (she hopes!!) and then I can put him in with DS1.
missease I'll fb you with the nappy details and you can decide if you fancy any to give a try.

My name is a nickname a friend of mine came up with ages ago

Pav think I'm going to visit Mum around March 7th so would be great to see you around Bristol way (even in Ikea?!) if the dates suit? I'll head down either Mon or Tues, and then head back either Thurs or Fri so let me know which days are any good for you and we can sort something out. How exciting!!!

I have a pile of maternity clothes making a mess on my bedroom floor, and have been meaning to ebay them for ages now. For those that have, do you sell them in bundles or individually? I wasn't sure they'd sell.

Last few nights I've started a new routine with the ds' - both get changed for bed and then we sit in my bed and I read DS1 stories while feeding DS2. Put DS2 to bed, then DS1. Has worked really well and has meant I've finally found a way of getting DS1 away from the tv before bed. My bedroom has now been christened 'storyland' by DS1

Laugs no change from dh, but thanks for asking. Tbh, things are pretty near to being unsalvagable and relate will be the last chance saloon. We're still waiting for our sessions to come through. We've been before and it didn't help (he thinks it's all my problem) so this time it will be serious cards on the table. Either the severity of it will spur him into action or I will then ask him to leave. DD does her gcse's in June so nothing will be done before then, so there is time for the sessions to allow us to really talk things through and for changes to be made.

Fruitpastels · 21/02/2010 18:08

Just popping in.. I'm feeling shattered Bubba has decided that 4am is a good time to wake up and start the day. This has been going on for a few mornings now and it's doing me in . DH does a top up formula (Scarlotti hungry baby milk) dream feed at 11pm, this was working well and I would give him a bf at around 3am and he would go back to sleep until 6pm. Oh how things have changed! I have to re-think my tactics.. Tonight I'm changing the routine and not waking him for a feed and I'll hang on until he wakes me and I will give him the formula. This might buy me a couple more hours

My MN name is my favourite packet of sweets ooh I could just eat some right now - give me a sugar fix!!

I must be a prude as I was as I stumbled on a thread in the Last 15 mins section, it was all about sex secrets - I'm surprised it hasn't been pulled off! My goodness some people are too honest!

Sorry for not replying to some of your posts.. I will catch up later
