scarlotti I just feed Isaac when he wakes up which is usually 1/2am. I've tried waking him at 11pm to feed but that just means he wakes up twice and doesn't seem to make much difference.

I'm not counting any chickens yet because Isaac could just be sleeping more because he's a bit poorly but moving him into a cot in his own room seems to have made a massive improvement in his sleep. I think he was waking himself up hitting the sides of his moses basket and we were probably waking him up in the night. His startle reflex seems to have stopped as well which has helped as he hated being swaddled.

PavlovtheCat · 19/02/2010 20:10

Thanks all! I am fine, and more to the point so is Reuben. He had a nice sleep and woke up happily kicking...and rolling! Well not full on rolling and he can only do it on the bed, but he sort of lifts his legs and butt of the bed and waggles his arms and he tips over...he loves it and laughs his head off! So i am guessing that is what happened when he fell off the bed. I shall be putting him in the middle from now on with pillows either side. I thought i had a bit longer before i got there! It shook me though, you would not beleive i already have a child would you!

lemontop · 19/02/2010 20:22

pavlov that's good to hear. I think these babies are stronger than we think! I saw Isaac roll for the first time today. He'd done it before but only for his dad.

Last night, after waking up in a sleepy daze, I thought we were being burgled as could hear a bang bang bang like someone was trying to get in the front door. After checking downstairs was clear I realised it was coming from Isaac's room. Instead of crying like he normally does to wake me, he'd turned himself on his side and was flipping his sleeping bag up and down against the side of the cot to get my attention. Was so confused!

PavlovtheCat · 19/02/2010 20:25

Its funny because i now remember DD doing this for a while before rolling properly. She used to actually roll back and forward, then one day, rather than roll, she flipped, was so shocked, she flipped back again and did not do it again for ages...she lay there with arms out, shocked look on her face!!! Then she flipped lots, but only one way for a long time!

PavlovtheCat · 19/02/2010 20:26

aw how cute, knows how to get mama running around after him even now

skorpion · 19/02/2010 20:46

lemontop, that's so funny! Just made me imagine a kid sitting in his cot drumming a mug on the rails

pavlov good to hear he's OK.

We weren't thinking of putting LO in her room for ages. For a start she still hasn't got a room, it's our office and as we both work from home we're not in too much hurry to give it up. On the other hand she can be in her crib for only so much longer and her cot is too big to fit in our bedroom. I'm hoping to wait it out until Easter...

VenusInfers · 19/02/2010 20:51

Crikey, Pav, what a shock that must have been. How they're all growing up.

Interesting reading all that stuff about BLW, it'll be on us before we know it. Only just realised how long I'll have to keep BF'ing for; foolishly thought that once baby started on 'real' food that I could stop pretty quickly. My sister knew her first baby was ready to wean at 5 months when she just constantly wanted to nurse and started waking up again in the night.

Has anyone got experience of their baby suddenly developing reflux or being sick? Little James has previously only ever spat up about a spoonful of milk but has been very sick three times in the last day. The first couple of times we thought it could be over feeding (because he's very chewy at the moment) or wind related, even though it was so much, but when he did it again this afternoon I took him to the doctor who checked him over, said he wasn't dehydrated or obviously ill and declared reflux. We've been prescribed some Gaviscon to mix with EBM for half his feeds. Anyone used this?

It's the first scare that I've had with James, and it surprised me how horrible the sudden helplessness felt. Mostly he stayed cheery, but when he felt rough and looked at me so sad and upset it near broke my heart. God, you'd do anything to make them feel better, wouldn't you? I felt so horrible. He's sleeping now though, and hoping that he'll be better when he wakes.

ursigurke · 19/02/2010 21:10

many things I would like to comment on but too tired so I guess, you'll have to wait until tomorrow.
Wizzy, I am so sorry for your loss. I'm sure your mum will always be with you and your family.
venus similar problem here. usually only a teaspoon full but the last couple of days much more, especially this evening.
sorry, have to run

VenusInfers · 19/02/2010 21:17

Oh, wizzy, I've only just seen your news. I am so terribly sorry to hear about your sudden loss. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

skorpion · 19/02/2010 22:04

Do you know, venus, Lucy's started being sick this week when she hadn't before. I thought it was just too much food, too. Will keep an eye on it, thanks.

VenusInfers · 19/02/2010 22:24

skorpion Oh, hope your Lucy is okay. With James, each time it was quite a long time after the feed - i.e. several hours - and the whole amount of the feed seemed to come up. Apparently not though, because he's still producing wet nappies, just fewer. Oh, I'm getting all nervous about him again.

PavlovtheCat · 19/02/2010 22:45

ursi can i just say. I have not said this before. I love your posts. You say the things i think but don't say, you say them easily and succintly when i waffle. I read your posts and they flow so well i wish i could write like that and not bang on just to say a few things, but still get what i want to say absolutely. You are honest and supportive and kind.

I would not normally blow smoke up some-ones ass like that. But every time i read a post of yours i think, i should say something. So i have.

PavlovtheCat · 19/02/2010 22:47

oh and i knew DD was ready to wean when she grabbed a piece of a toddler friend's marmite on toast and stuck it in her mouth

SirBoobAlot · 19/02/2010 22:56

Hello you lovely bunch

Its ErikaMaye, but this is my new name, do you like it? twirls Had to change due to DP stalking reading what I was writing.

Wizzy am so so sorry to hear your sad news. Sending you lots of love and warm vibes. If you need to talk we're all here to listen.

Pavlov that must have scared the hell out of you! Bryn has rolled onto his side a few times, and has managed to sit himself half way up three times (all today!) - it is scary isn't it?! Glad he's okay though, what a clever little lamb

Venus have had two scares with Bryn throwing up. And yes - utter helplessness.

Scarlotti - Meet-up link for you

Sorry I haven't read through everything, will try to at some point. Has been a very weird week. Hope you're all well.

SirBoobAlot · 19/02/2010 23:02

Oh, and I forgot to ask - is anyone else's LO feeding constantly? I thought it was a growth spurt, but now I'm really not sure. He keeps crying whenever he can see people eating as well, and that is just getting worse. HV is coming next week anyway, but just wondered if anyone else had this.

VenusInfers · 19/02/2010 23:37

Just gave James his late feed of EBM thickened with the infant Gaviscon. NOT easy. Had to use a different teat for it because it was so thick to and then he started choking on it 'cos it was too fast. Could only get him to take a couple of ounces before he just refused to try anymore. Sigh. So I had to give him a bit of regular breast just so he got enough to drink as his last nappy wasn't very wet.

claired21 · 20/02/2010 00:48

Had a busy day & night so haven't kept up just skimmed to catch up so might forget or get stuff wrong but...

misssese we use totsbots, shaped nappies with a wrap. The only thing I would say about washing is I was advised to use a tiny amount of powder, as in about 2 tablespoonfuls, and no softener as this can coat the fibres and make them less absorbent. Also best not to use nappy cream apparently as this can also coat fibres but I'm using flushable liners as the top layer so think it's ok in this case.

Venus Ethan is very sensitive to my diet. I now can't have milk, ice cream, garlic bread or kfc. If I do we have what I like to call 'splashy' sick. Copious amount of what looks like expressed milk, as if it hasn't been digested at all. Could this be what you have?

erika love the name. Just hope your DP isn't cunning enough to search the nov postnatal thread...? Nice that he's interested though!

pav glad Reuben is ok after his tumble. Maybe I missed it but is he recovered from the temperature?

sleepless loved your first paragraphon contemplating more children. Made me laugh. Hope Charlotte is ok.

Nice that everyone has returned to the fold and our thread is full of activity again!

Broodzilla · 20/02/2010 00:52

I've been catching up on my phone again... At least it keeps my posts short as my thumbs can't take my rambling...

Wizzy so sorry to hear about your mum. I don't know what else to say, it all seems so flat.

Pav how scary! Glad it's all ok now.

Re BLW, was thinking about doing that, but think I'll do a mixture... I like the idea of BLW but not sure I completely agree with the theory (many animals feed their babies with regurgitated or pre-chewed food so pure seems more "natural" to me in that sense)

Re sleeping... Lukas was sleeping for 3,5-4 hrs at a time but suddenly will wake up every hour or so until I go to bed. We still co-sleep (bedshare actually) and will keep doing it for a while I think.

Feeding... sirboob (love the new name!) when Lukas was 16 wks, he suddenly started eating every 2 hrs day and night. Kept it up for about a week, so must've been a growthspurt.

Me too with the hairloss, it's awful! I had it all chopped off a few weeks ago and really regret it now as I'd love to be able to do it up to stop the hair going everywhere.

And yes, I too have saved the outgrown babyclothes... Oh how quickly the memories of 24/7 nausea faded...(in all honesty, those memories do haunt me and make me worry about ttc too soon... But I definitely, definitely do want to ttc for baby nr 2 soonish.)

Best get some sleep...

claired21 · 20/02/2010 08:05

I had to wake Ethan this morning. After 7.5 hours solid. He did have around 9oz from two bottles while I was out last night so I suspect that has knocked him out but still, on thur night he fed 4 times & I thought it was a growth spurt! Maybe not...

Also have no water this morning. What to do with a bag full of soiled nappies which need washing...

I'm off to my first OU tutorial this morning. Hope everyone has a good weekend x

helips · 20/02/2010 14:02

Hi all, just caught up, phew!

wizzy so sorry to hear about you mum, you really have had a tough time of it recently and now this, so sorry for your loss.

sirboob love the new name!

pav glad Reuben is ok after his fall, scary stuff.

I too am going to do a mixture of blw and puree. I did this with ds too but he wasn't really interested in food until he was 10 months old. I hated weaning last time and felt really stressed out but went to a blw workshop and was told that before they are 1 years old that milk is still the main part of their diet and not to worry too much about how much food they are eating (or not eating in ds case!) He loves his food now. Will breast feed for as long as Millie wants, ds stopped at 20 months but was only having 1 feed a day by then so I didn't mind.

Moved Millie to her own room last night. I felt really sad but she went down at 9.30 am and stayed asleep until 3.30am, then I brought her back in with us so cheated a little bit!

Ds was sick last night so he was in with us as well! He woke at 12.30am covered in sick so i bathed him and put a travel cot in our room to sleep in as his room stank, then he was sick in our room too! He had 3 baths last night too! very interesting bathing a toddler in the middle of the night! He is very subdued today but has kept some food down so hopefully he is over the worst of it.

I think Millie will be my last baby, dh doesn't want anymore and I think 2 kids is enough, although never say never! If I get broody once the kids are at school or have a little accident!

I'm off on a hen night tonight, have expressed some milk so fingers crossed Millie drinks it...

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend...

misssese · 20/02/2010 15:14

Thanks for all the nappy info ladies I think what i will do is buy a selection of different one's and see how i get on! I put the mothers ease on her yesterday eve- it was huge so wasn't that keen.DP said when he took it of Pearl, her little bum was all clammy-so he isn't that keen on them either, won't be buying those! The one's I like the look of are totsbots, little lambs, itti bitti and bumgenius! Such funny names hehe.
What i did want to ask you ladies who have an older child are you on another thread for example june 07 babies? Was just thinking I would never be able to keep up with that!! hehe

Broodzilla · 20/02/2010 15:27

I had planned to use real nappies after the first few weeks, but as we're still having 4-6 poos a day, there's no way I'm swapping from disposables. Might do further down the line though as I hear it's easier to potty train real nappy wearers.

Can't remember who asked about the bouncy things to go in doorways? We got the Jump attachment to the Amby, and as Lukas has insisted on standing in our laps for 2-3 weeks we thought we'd try him in the jump last weekend. He loves it but gets tired quite quickly. (He'll be 20 wks on Wed).

Has anyone else's baby started sleeping on their front? Lukas has rolled over in his sleep a few times and it bothers me... He sleeps so well on his front but I can't seem to find any info on when you can stop worrying about it.

Hope you're all having a lovely weekend, DH took Lukas out for a walk earlier (a first!) so I could clean the house. By the time I was done and showered and dressed I'd not held Lukas for 2,5 hours. That's the longest we've gone since he was born! I really hope DH finally gets it and steps up enjoyed himself enough to do it again!

Trikken · 20/02/2010 15:54

afternoon! the baby let me sleep in til 9 today, she was still asleep. not for long tho cos as soon as I got up ds started making a racket!

Am another who is satisfied with two children. At this moment in time I do not want any other children and could not stand to go through another long labour and birth. In ten years or so I might change my mind but I wouldnt have thought so. means I dont have an excuse for not losing all the baby-weight now tho.

hobnob57 · 20/02/2010 17:02

No time to catch up properly, but just wanted to tell claired that I've just made the recipe of the week's lemon drizzle cake dairy and gluten-free and it worked. Tastes a bit different, but still good to me . I used oat milk instead of milk, GF SR four and made my own GF baking powder.

Also Sleepless thinking of you with your reflux baby. It really is so wearing on everyone. That's why, after my 1st reflux baby, it took me 2 years to even consider having another!

For those considering the next one, I'd heartily recommend a 3 year age gap from a practicality point of view. DD can toilet herself, put on shoes, etc. which helps things enormously. Not to mention having a free nursery place 2.5 hours a day .

After having a so much easier pregnancy and coping so much better with a not-too-bad refluxer this time around I'd really like to have #3. But I'm not sure DH can be convinced . The only thing I have on my side is that we haven't had his much-wanted son yet .

Sirboob love the name

hobnob57 · 20/02/2010 17:11

missese we use motherease nappies, and did/still do for DD1 (3) too. You fold over the bit at the front for wee ones, so you're poppering onto the reverse, so to speak. I've always found their incredible poo-containing capabilities brilliant, and they dry so quickly too. The air flow wraps really cut down on nappy rash. DD1 only ever got a rash after using disposables on summer hols, other than teething rashes.
