Skorpion James had a few days of not seeming to like the bottle, but has now gone back to being fine with it. I'm like you - I was a bit reluctant to use one at first, but now I am used to it I am not going back! Actually, I'm still only feeding on one side and this week has gone really well, so I think I might just keep it up like this for a while. I'm so scared of it all going wrong again. But that means that he has to take bottles of EBM or I will end up totally lop-sided!

Re. BF in public: I'm still wearing maternity tops to give plenty of room for fabric draping around his head. God, I am sick of them! It's fine once you get used to it though. Nobody's ever commented to me or even seemed to notice.

Scarlotti I think it should work that if he gets more milk in the day he needs less at night. James sleeps beautifully for a few hours mid-morning until after lunch. It is fantastic! Every day I tell myself I should wake him to feed so that he will sleep better at night, but oh I just can't bear to. Every evening I curse my laziness and vow to wake him tomorrow. Hasn't happened yet. It's all about the instant gratification with me

Laugs · 19/02/2010 12:24

lemontop what an amazing sleeper! I think I read that premature babies should be treated as if born on their due date for weaning. He is big though, so might buck that trend.

PavlovtheCat · 19/02/2010 12:43

Hey all!

Just a quick response to some things, we read through properly later

scarlotti would love to meet up in Brissol! and anyone else who wants to meet there would be great too. It an excuse to pop into Ikea at the very least!

breastfeeding in public - no comments, the odd person staring, but i think more out of awe/curiosity/interest/aw isnt that nice than anything else. I wear a strappy top that can be pulled down under my boob easily, and then a normal t-shirt/shirt/jumper that I just pull up over my boob, then i have the same type of thing going on as a nursing top, but with even less exposed, it is really easy then to take him off the boob and slip top over boob without anything being exposed ever.

Babyled weaning - did a mixture of this and puree weaning with DD. She was a very messy eater whatever she had so made no difference with her picking it up herself! We even gave her a huge hunk of pork a few times, she held it in her mits and chewed on it and sucked on it. Lovely! (not til she was about 7-8months though!). I read about it all loosely then sort of made it up as went along. I gave her whatever i was eating, and if it was whole and soft, she had it like that, and if it was not possible for her to eat it like that, i would blend it and serve it to her. It was a lot of fun feeding her! She absolutely disliked bought pots though, apart from Ella's kitchen purees, which i also loved. Unfortunately so did the carseat and it is now ruined as she loved to hold them and squeeze them all over herself while on long car journeys! A lesson learned!

sleeplessinthecity · 19/02/2010 13:27

WEANING! noooooooo.. i hated weaning, its so boring. With reflux babies its a nightmare..oh no...here we go again.

Had to go to the docs yest as Charlotte has started screaming again..we have to do tests in hosp to check the level of acid in her tummy. It will involve a stay at hosp..

lemontop jealous of all that sleep...SLEEP....the thing of dreams..how ironic you have to sleep to dream!

Laugs wake him up!!! i know what you mean tho. I want to start waking Charlotte properly at 10 so she takes more food but i get so lazy and end up chickening out..few hours tho before lunch you lucky thing..how is he at night?

scarlotti a tattoo..would love to see too!

fruit hows the hairloss..I'm shedding bigtime now..its awful..

BeckyBendyLegs · 19/02/2010 14:18

BLW is soooo the way to go in my opinion. DS1 was just 17 weeks when I started but he was starving hungry and miserable and we went slowly and gradually. DS2 was 24 weeks and started showing signs of being bored by just milk as he started to drink less, ironically. DS3 will be more like DS1 I fear. He is a HUNGRY BABY!!!

ButterPie · 19/02/2010 14:43

Does anyone else find that as soon as they hold their baby, the baby starts looking for the boob? If I wear a low cut top she just stares and paws at my cleavage, even when I know she isn't hungry. She's worse than a teenage boy!

Fruitpastels · 19/02/2010 15:22

sleepless sorry to hear the reflux isn't getting any better. All the best at the hospital and hope they can help ease her discomfort. Are you able to stay in the hospital overnight as well? The hair loss has been pretty bad. I'm having to wear my hair up as it keeps shedding all over the baby. I even found a hair of mine in his mouth just now. I'm having it cut ASAP!! Sorry you're going through it as well

lemontop very jealous of the sleep. We're a few weeks behind Issac so there is hope yet!

I've only BF in public a few times. I've always been with a friend though. I don't feel comfortable on my own.

I decided this morning that my bread maker was just sitting collecting dust and that it should see some action. I thought it would be nice to have fresh bread and soup with DS1 for lunch, we were both looking forward to it. It turns out that I forgot the main ingrediant - the yeast . I've had to make another loaf and wait another 3 blimmin hours for it to cook!!

skorpion · 19/02/2010 15:40

LOL @ butterpie's teenage boy . Lucy does these funny quick snoring breaths and sways her head from side to side (a bit Stevie Wonder-style) opening her mouth like a baby bird when she's hungry. Aren't they just the funniest things to watch, babies?

laugs oh, so happy to read that you're feeling better about bf, hope it's going to get better and better. Ten weeks in and it just sort of clicked with us... I will persist with the bottles from time to time. Also a bit jealous of the daytime sleep... but won't voice it too much, as Lucy sleeps so well in the night. I feed her around 10pm, then 2-3pm and then 5-6pm, and at least after the first two feeds it's straight to the crib and sleep on her own, bless.

And thank you all for your comments on bf'ing public. Very helpful about the clothes to wear. Good to be reminded, as I manage to forget stuff - used Lucy's spare vest as a bib on more than one occasion so far...

Where does the time go?! I can't believe we're starting to discuss weaning. Whatever next? School? University? First Nov09 baby wedding?????

misssese · 19/02/2010 15:43

Fruitpastels I thought the watery eye could be conjunctivitis but don't you have to pick that up from someone else ? Or can it just appear? Il keep on with the breast milk then prob as good as drops!
I have kindly received from the lovely people of freecycle some washable nappies, a couple of different brands. Those you that use them - do they have to be washed in any special way? Also which brand do you recommend as I would like to start using them all the time but unsure which to go for?

skorpion · 19/02/2010 15:43

sleepless oh no, poor baby. Is this something they grow out of or do they need intervention?

skorpion · 19/02/2010 15:51

misssese you don't need to wash them in any special way. I wash mine at 40C using powder for sensitive skin. Maybe give them a blast at 60C from time to time. I have five Little Lamb nappies which are ones that look like disposables with a couple of boosting inserts each and also some bamboo squares. The bamboo ones took a few tries at different folding techniques, and I use nappi nippa fasteners with them. A Little Lamb wrap on top and she's all done. Bum looks massive but they seem to be OK.

I know what you mean about being confused with too much choice...

I got all of mine here, as recommended on here.

Fruitpastels · 19/02/2010 15:57

It will be so interesting in the future when some of you fall pg again. It won't be me I can count on that! I had my mini moment of wanting another baby but I think I'm done on that score

Fruitpastels · 19/02/2010 16:11

misssese In babies they can be very prone to it when they catch anything viral or it could be an allergen reaction. DS has had a cold each time he's had the problem. This time it's not so mucky and more watery. I do treat with breast milk but I do bathe the eye several times a day with cooled boiled water.

PavlovtheCat · 19/02/2010 16:20

my baby boy has a watery gunky eye. Dr said it was blocked tear duct, if that helps?

Reuben fell off the bed or should i say he rolled off the bed. Luckily our bed is very low to the ground and we have a soft carpet. I had him not too close to the edge and turned away to put something in a drawer and he screamed, i turned, saw him not on the bed but on the floor with arms and legs in the air and i screamed! He made the most heartwrenching gut churning sound and I thought he was very badly hurt, i have never been so afraid in my entire life. But a few seconds later with DH charging in panicking too as he heard the sound and me screaming, and he was comfort feeding while i checked him all over. He finished feeding, smiled at me and went to sleep, and now i am worried he is sleeping! But he is restful. No marks or bump signs so at least his head is ok, and think he landed mostly on his nappy, but i was terrified. I have never heard a sound like that from DD Poor boy.

misssese · 19/02/2010 16:24

Thanks skorpion just been looking at them do you have the bamboo little lamb nappies? And are the bamboo squares the boosters - sorry for being a bit of a div but do find it all very confusing!!Just looking at the nappies I have been given I have a mothers ease which is on that website , its says it fits from birth but looking at it seems far too big for pearl. Thinking about getting some pocket nappies for the day possibly bumgenius and two part shaped nappies for nights maybe little lambs - they look lovely and soft!!

Fruitpastels · 19/02/2010 16:29

Pav I'm sure he's fine. He wouldn't be feeding if there was anything wrong with him. As long as he continues to feed and be alert then he's okay. It must have felt terrible for you. DS1 fell off the bed too from a fair height. He was fine but I felt awful afterwards. They can catch you out so easily can't they. Also DS1 fell down the stairs (before he could walk) as I left the stair gate open. My DH heard my scream and ran to the foot of the stairs and caught him. It must have been instinct on DH's part to act so quickly. Luckily he was fine. I felt I could have won the 'terrible mum' award for days after that incident.

misssese · 19/02/2010 16:32

Thanks fruit il do some boiled water too!! pav That is extremely scarey!! He was prob got a fright more than anything! I read up about blocked tear ducts online and also thought this could be it. Did the Dr suggest anything to unblock? The article i read said about massage under the eye - but seeing as I don't know if she actually has blocked tear ducts thought id better not! lol

misssese · 19/02/2010 16:37

Also LOL at fruit wondering if anyone would have another baby . After pearl was born i told DP whatever i do or say DO NOT let me convince myself I want another baby! Hehe but i have already started missing the newborn stage and even saving clothe's Pearl has grown out of-Just incase??

Fruitpastels · 19/02/2010 16:39

misssese you can massage with your little finger between the inner corner of the eye and the nose. I was told to do this as well to help unblock the duct. Found it rather difficult and he's a wriggler. But as the eye was mucky (infected) it needed treatment as well. I think you'll know if it's not getting any better and needs looking at by the GP

Fruitpastels · 19/02/2010 16:47

I've convinced DH to keep everything baby wise up in the loft, just for now DH doesn't want anymore kids as he's turning 40 next month and doesn't want to go through the baby days again. I'm a little younger and feel I could squeeze and love another child my life, but I love having my boys and our family works well as the 4 of us. misssese Is Pearl your first?

misssese · 19/02/2010 16:55

Yes she is my first and im 24 so we will see! She was only born 3 months ago and i'm already starting to think maybe, so in a couple of years who knows. lol But like you said about your family, we are a nice little team of 3! After your first did you always plan to have another?

Fruitpastels · 19/02/2010 17:14

I always thought I'd have two children if it were possible. I have 4 year age gap between my two and it works well. It's the best gift I could have given my DS1 as he is totally in love with his baby brother. I'm so pleased that DH and I were able to give them companionship whilst they are growing up together. I might just go very grey early on in life with two young boys to look after

misssese · 19/02/2010 17:27

fruit your boys are very cute!!

skorpion · 19/02/2010 18:01

misssese I have the microfibre little lamb nappies and bamboo square flat ones. The boosters are fleece and come with the little lamb nappies. The little lamb are so, so soft and lovely. The bamboo's a bit more coarse, but they're fine, too. They do look big on her but will probably less so as she grows.

fruit Lucy's my first and already I'm thinking to have another. Don't get me wrong, I love her on her own and do not want to wish away the time I have with her but I also know that the relationship she could have with a sibling could be something wonderful. I'm very close to my sister now, after years of horrible fighting as children I must add, and I don't want my little daughter to be deprived of the same (the good part, not the fighting). I'm already 35, DH is going to be 38 next month so we've left it a bit late anyway. My two youngest nephews are 16 months apart and I'm told that the older one is not showing too much jealousy and rivalry, as he doesn't really remember the time without his little brother. Your boys sound lovely

pavlov how scary! I'm sure he'll be fine if he's eating and not moaning. Poor you.

sleeplessinthecity · 19/02/2010 19:37

Another baby!! hmmm..when I've only just put the screamer to sleep the answer is no! when she coos at me in her sweet way and smiles AND she is a carbon copy of me..the answer is still no!!!..I feel wrecked and frankly too sleep deprived.

Skorpion thanks and fingers crossed for the test. If indeed her acid levels are high she will be on medication for a while. Yikes. Hopefully I will be in hospital with her..poor mite. I agree with you, a sibling is the best gift. Even tho its sooo hard at the mo as she hates the time Charlotte takes away from her. I can't wait till they bond and play together. Just today they were blowing raspberries at each other and I burst into tears

Fruit Charlotte has my hair all over her and her cot, and her clothes and her face..its ridiculous..I have to keep mine down as if I pull it back from my face it looks like its receding..

misssese you're 24..you have a while but its totally natural to want them close together. Its instinct actually.

pav are you ok? what a fright for a bit..
