If you add a bit of washing up liquid (lemon/lime scented or suchlike) in with the vinegar water mix (2 pts water to 1 pt vinegar) that smells nice.
Scrub scrub scrub and make sure to dry it. hth

50ftQueenie · 16/02/2010 15:07

Hmmm... what Star says (because I have no clue, Star sounds very authoritative and Star is also the biggest clean freak I think I've ever met.)

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 16/02/2010 15:17

thank you!
I only have white wine vinegar, none of the stuff people put on fish and chips - is that the same???

StarExpat · 16/02/2010 15:18

I guess I was a bit over zealous with cleaning advice there. Not sure what came over me!

StarExpat · 16/02/2010 15:20

that should be fine, pepper... not 100% on that. Perhaps Jenwa could advise if that's a proper substitute I'd give it a try anyway I think that's what I have in our cleaning cupboard

50ftQueenie · 16/02/2010 15:53

Star, your advice was comprehensive.

i thought it was great -her mattress has been washed down with vinegar and water mix and when it dried i sprinkled the baking powder on to absorb some smell. Hopefully it'll have recovered by bedtime, it's the waterproof side (thank goodness). I'll have to do the downstairs carpet when the kids are in bed.

Pistachio I think it's because I just have one He is happy to play on his own and with me and help me with household stuff, cuddle on my lap for a bit and watch cbeebies, eat lunch...etc. And our place is quite small, so he can't really get into much trouble.

DH loves getting out and about with him when he's alone with him.... as do I... but I also like to throw in one lazy day where we can just move at a snail's pace and not go out at all (except maybe into the garden for a bit).

I hope it works, pepper! You'll need to hoover up the baking soda afterward... you probably know that already. Just being thorough

I had to get out even when I had just one! I had planned on a quiet day in today, but dd was going stir crazy (despite being good all morning) so we popped out to feed the ducks in a nearby town whilst ds napped. We had tonnes of bread/sandwich ends for them from all the party stuff!

Thanks for yesterday 50ft. I unfortunately had an even worse journey back than the one there, as the M25 had turned into a car park with jam after jam. Took me just shy of 2.5 hrs to get back, so by last night, having been up since 5am and done 5 hours driving in a day I was shot, and actually didn't mind for once that MN was down .

Bleurgh for stinky pepper household!

Haven't made those yet KSal, but they sound nice from title alone!

Dress looks lovely pistachio.

aubergenie · 16/02/2010 21:11

I often get out with S twice a day. It's like having a pet that needs excercising. Fortunately for us we've got 5 children's centres within walking distance of our house, so loads of activities, most of them free.

Hope the smells have subsided Pepper. at Star's advice. You definitely asked the expert. I wouldn't have had a clue.

I'm watching that childbirth programme again, and was in tears before it even started. Dp'd had to make a swift exit, he absolutely can't watch anything like that.

Glad you had a lovely birthday 50ft!

Honeymoonmummy · 16/02/2010 21:22

'lo people. Damn, I missed the labour ward prog, what time was it on?

Ekka · 16/02/2010 21:23

Pepper, sorry to hear about all the smells! I hope that you are now putting your feet up in a nice non-smelly house?!?!

I love the dress pistachio. I am tempted to ask dh for a personal shopping trip at John Lewis for my birthday, but I may have to wait and see how restrained he is going to be about his birthday requests (if he buys himself the 42" LED tv that he drools over every few days, I'm definitely demanding my shopping trip!)

Aubergenie - I meant to watch that, but dh is watching football, and I don't think he'd switch over for a birth programme

I spent the day in hospital with ds, for his MMR. It all went fine, but, despite not actually doing much, I am now knackered. Any excuse to tuck into a beer.....

aubergenie · 16/02/2010 21:37

It's on now HMM. Till 10.

I'd thoroughly recommend a JL personal shopping trip Ekka. It just takes all the leg work out, and when I did mine I didn't feel like she was doing a hard sell at all.

Glad the MMR went well, too.

Honeymoonmummy · 16/02/2010 21:46

I'm gonna watch it on +1. Am watching the Brits at the moment.

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/02/2010 22:07

I forgot about it too hmm, but spotted aubergenie's post just before 10, so am watching on +1 too.

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/02/2010 22:09

Ooh it's sounding familiar - induction for GD and 4 days in hospital so far!

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/02/2010 22:37

'Joy' really isn't living up to her name is she?! What a miserable moany guts! At least I had MN to keep me going when I was waiting and bored in hospital.

StarExpat · 17/02/2010 08:39

I didn't watch the programme. But csws, you'd probably call me a miserable moany guts in labour! . There was definitely NO joy in the process for me until Q arrived on my chest.

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/02/2010 08:41

Ah, but Joy wasn't actually in labour star. She was just moaning about food and the midwives and pillows and ...

aubergenie · 17/02/2010 09:07

I did chuckle when I found out her name was Joy CSWS! I'm sure I was horrendous when they kept me in for 2 days after S was born, so I don't entirely blame her.

Can't decide what to do today. I can't go too far away as I've got to be home for S's nap so I can write reports. Gah!

pepperrabbit · 17/02/2010 09:24

Deep joy here, DS2 has it now... So all change for DDs bedclothes at midnight, then DS2s at 3am.DS1 is blissfully oblivious that it may get him at any time.
I've made her a Docs appt actually as she's had an upset tummy since Friday andnow she has an odd rash on her torso, like little pimples. Not sure how to get the others to the docs though... won't bepopular that's for sure!
carpet smells much better today thanks Star, mattress still foul though..

StarExpat · 17/02/2010 09:57

oh pepper That sounds absolutely dreadful! I hope the dr can help and that dc are feeling better soon. Mattresses are something that will probably need to be replaced unfortunately. Best to use one of those full mattress waterproof covers then it can't seep through next time. If you can't get a new mattress, you could zip it up in one of those covers for now and it would "trap" the smell but a colleague suggested that to me (who is equally in love with cleaning) when I asked her for another way to remove smell from mattresses.

ah ok, I get it now, csws. I didn't moan once Q was out. Well, I DID moan... not about facilities, pillows...etc. But I kept moaning about how I wanted to go home please. I actually offered to pay one of the midwives £100 if she let us go and I promised never to tell anyone about it . She just laughed at me.
Oh, AND I kept whining about not knowing how to bf and could someone please help me instead of just coming in, looking at my nipples and saying "oh my, you're looking a bit chewed aren't you?"
