Ah, it also makes my chest tight and makes me wheezy so it is an allergy rather than just an intolerance. DH's mouth swells if he eats certain fruits.

A good side effect of my wheat intolerance is that there is NO WAY I can even think about eating one of the cakes I made for my mummy. and all at the same time. I might have been put off cake.... What's happening to me? Off cake, don't want a pink Fiat 500....

OP posts:
aubergenie · 04/02/2010 20:16

Blimey. This must be the most allergic thread ever.

Evening all. Thanks for your offer of us driving down together Star, but I think it might make the journey a fair bit longer. It was a lovely idea though.

Can I just check which is your station Ronshar - I'm working on the assumption that it's Worthing. Have I got that right? I'm happy to walk from the station if it's not too far, but would need some directions. What time do you want us?

Dinner's ready. Back later.

RachieW · 04/02/2010 20:24

Oh my god what a day, one of the children at Nursery ran, tripped and cut his head open on a table. Urgh..blood. He is fine thankfully, he had to have his head glued at the hospital. Poor love. Then I went to collect J from his nursery and he has two bite marks on his forehead.. still that pales in comparison really. Am feeling shattered tonight so heading for an early night.

Oh and I have eaten run out of all of the cakes, biscuits and chocolate in my house so am feeling very hungry with all your cake conversations. Please talk about carrots instead

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/02/2010 21:33

We were talking about carrot cake rachie .

Poor ds will have to have glasses in 6 months to a year .

50ftQueenie · 04/02/2010 21:41

Awww.... He'll look beautiful and cute CSWS plus he'll get used to them really quickly. It will be fine and look at it this way.... you've found the problem very early so it won't affect his development.

Rachie - I had a delicious bowl of spinach and broccoli soup for lunch. No cakes for me Ouch to the split head and the tooth marks.

Really Pistachio? It's VERY simple indeed. I use a whole broccoli tree and a whole pack of spinach. I fry up some onions in a tiny bit of olive oil, then when they've softened, take it off the heat, add the chopped up tree (can't think of the proper word), and the spinach then pour on vegetable stock to cover, add garlic and any herbs you fancy then simmer. I don't even know how long I cook it for, I'm so slap dash! Not too long, just until it's soft. Then when it's cooled I blend it, but careful not to blend it too much (or add too much water) or it goes gloopy & like baby food. Hope that makes sense.

OP posts:
50ftQueenie · 04/02/2010 22:09

Oh and it is delicious! Really creamy and thick bt with almost no calories.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 04/02/2010 22:21

I might have to convert that to 'cream of' broccoli and spinach soup 50ft!

Yes pistachio, hospital appointment was today. Saw 4 diff people, and had drops put in his eyes to dilate them before some of the tests. He was very brave about that, so got an 'award for bravery' sticker .

StarExpat · 05/02/2010 08:15

Q had a fever yesterday afternoon. Gave Calpol. Fever returned at 11pm, gave calpol, fever returned at 6am gave calpol... waiting to see if it returns again. I'm at work, but waiting to hear as I will prob go see him in a couple hours anyway. He seems fine in himself. Just a little more cuddly than usual and added an hour onto his nap yesterday (slept 4.5 hours! 11.30-4).
So, ladies...
when does the fever have to be totally gone by in order for us still be able to come to Ronshar's? (assuming nothing else is wrong)

StarExpat · 05/02/2010 08:58

Csws D is going to look so cute with glasses

That soup sounds yummy 50ft.

Aubergenie what happened with the minibeasts? I've been reading along but did I miss it?

Rachie that fall sounds horrendous. So do the bite marks, though! I'd be a bit about bite marks on Q. Poor thing. Toddlers can be viscious!

StarExpat · 05/02/2010 11:41

Q seems to be ok... would you take your dc to the gp for just a fever and sleepiness? He'll probably just get over it, right? I'm on holiday next week and dh on holiday the next week so if he does take a while to recover it's not really all that horrible and he can stay home with his bed/toys... etc. BUT, if he does have something, and I get antibiotics this afternoon, then he'll have been on abx for long enough to go to Ronshar's on Sunday, right?
I know that's selfish reasoning for wanting to go to the GP but I just want to go to the meet up! (and not infect other toddlers)

Or, is it possible for babies to just have a normal cold (he's a little snotty I guess... nothing huge) with a fever?

Does a fever always mean it's really bad?

Could it be caused by his two molars coming in (that STILL HAVEN'T CUT THROUGH but are so swollen it's unbelievable!)?

Every time something happens t ohim, I'm more and more convinced that I'd love a big plastic dettol emitting bubble for him to roll around in.

50ftQueenie · 05/02/2010 12:11

It really depends on how high his temperature is. If it is only a little bit raised then it's a cold and don't worry. If it's really high then I'd take him to the doctor, or give the doctor a call and talk it through. M often gets very hot and sleepy when she has a cold but I tend not to worry as long as calpol etc keep her temperature down. M often sleeps on and off all day if she has a particularly nasty cold, but is normally over it the next day. I can completely understand you being extra cautious after last time though.

I just took M to be weighed. She's only put on 6 oz in 3 months but has grown about 4cms. She is still 95th percentile for her height but has dropped to 45th for her weight. PLUS she was wearing quite a lot of clothing and a cloth nappy. From memory I think N might have over taken her now! I'll have to check back....

OP posts:
50ftQueenie · 05/02/2010 12:12

Oh she weighed 22lbs 5.

OP posts:
StarExpat · 05/02/2010 12:24

Don't have my american thermometer. It's 38.3 - 38.5 when he's really hot (but feels hotter now than he did when he had a much higher temp before ), which I think is near 101 F. That seems high to me, but DH didn't think it was too high. Is it high?

Calpol works. But after about 4 hours, he starts to get hot again and by the time the 6 hour wait is over he's back at 38.3-38.5 (I always take 3 readings and they have been fairly consistent).

I'm thinking we'll see how tonight goes... but then it's a hassle because tomorrow is saturday and no gp is open.

Wow to M's growth I have no clue how much Q weighs.

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/02/2010 12:25

I've only ever taken ds to the GP once with a fever, when I already knew that it was slapped cheek. I've never taken dd for one, although I did phone nhs direct once (temp was over 40, which is well into febrile convulsion territory). Dd used to get soaring temps when she had teeth coming through, but there's nothing that a gp could do for that!

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/02/2010 12:27

Whilst it is a temp, I wouldn't consider that exceptionally high star.

D weighs 28-29 lbs.

50ftQueenie · 05/02/2010 12:49

I wouldn't worry too much about that temperature either Star and I am quite a worrier. Hope he gets better soon. My two both had slight temperatures when teeth came through but nothing like CSWS's dd!

CSWS - D hasn't put on weight for ages has he? Wasn't he around the same weight at 10 months?

I'm not worried about M as she is only very gently moving down the percentiles, not plummeting. It's her height which astonishes me. Her inside leg measurement has increased by an whole inch in the last 7 weeks! (Oh and I'm not crazy, the reason I needed to know was to measure for knitting wool longies ).

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 05/02/2010 12:57

He was 26 or 27 lbs at 9 months 50ft. But he still looks enormous and seems to weigh a tonne when I am carrying him around.

StarExpat · 05/02/2010 13:01

Ok, so it could be due to teeth! That is super helpful! And to know it's not that high. Thank you. Now, if he's feeling better would anyone who is going be upset if he were there? Having just had this bit of a temp?
Since we I now know that fever doesn't always equal infection?

Oh, I think Q is about 24lbs. When we were at the hospital a few weeks ago, they had to weigh him to see how much calpol he could have. I think he was 24lbs on the scale with all his clothes on and holding our bottle of calpol . He looks like he weighs a lot more, though!

I have no problem with him being there at all Star. Don't forget that a lot of us have older children who bring bugs home from school or nursery all the time!

OP posts:
StarExpat · 05/02/2010 13:29

Pistachio - your DD's haircut is super cute (from pics on fb). she looks astonishingly more like a little girl and less like a toddler from one pic to the next! Beautiful

50ft I didn't think of that.... and of course I, working in a school, carry bugs and germs around with me, too (that's likely where he got this if it's not teeth!).

Ok, if he's feeling good, then we'll come along anyway Just watch - everyone will be on here on Monday complaining of kids with fevers and blaming Q! haha!
