oops, didn't notice the thread was getting too big!

PMSL at the Burn's night smilies; I thought they were wearing earphones.

not sure I agree with them; as a proud Scot, I hate all that fucking tacky tartan crap that we get labelled with, tartan tammies and fake ginger hair more than most

LOL Ria
Typical male taking things literally!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 11/02/2010 11:28

at bumble!

Jamlet watching me on the loo pointedd at my cellulite ridden thigh and said "mummy spots"!!

Riapwhatyousow · 11/02/2010 13:34

jammy.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 12/02/2010 08:23

Right, I gave the jamkit her first injection of insulin this morning. She took it very well But one of our (high up) cupboards now looks very scary with a box full of syringes and a sharps box.

Riapwhatyousow · 12/02/2010 10:03

well done for being brave jamkit.

am finally going to the GP this morning to have my massive mutant skin tag removed from my leg (thigh in fact, so the stitches will probably rub and I will have to feel very sorry for myself in the manner of a man) Lets just say I'm not excited about it!

DS1 finishes school at lunchtime today

Ohforfoxsake · 12/02/2010 14:01

.

oh shit, just remembered I was meant to be at dr's for DD2s jabs this morning. Arse.

Just marking my place, and the one word which I caught was 'injection'.

Right, catch up...

Ohforfoxsake · 12/02/2010 14:05

Well that took a nano-second!

Glad all the potty training is going well.

We've had good success on the loo here. No potties, straight for toilet. I think it stems from my friends DH showing me his daughters shit in the potty in the living when I was there visiting. She is now sitting her GCSEs and I have an aversion to potties despite being a mother of 4. Funny how things impact on your life 14 years later, in the most peculiar way!

FestiveFairyFay · 12/02/2010 19:15

Potty training today was an unmitigated disaster. DS is not in the slightest bit interested in being out of nappies - he just wee'd and poo'ed in his pants all day and didn't give a monkeys. He can go on the loo - does it happily before bath every night, he just doesn't want to during the day.

I know I shouldn't give up but I don't think my 'nerves' can take it so I have - will try again in another month.

Ohforfoxsake · 12/02/2010 19:42

I honestly wouldn't bother Fairy Fay. I wouldn't if DD didn't 'get' it. You've tried, he's not ready, save yourself a lot of stress and come back to it in 3 or 4 months.

FestiveFairyFay · 12/02/2010 20:02

Thanks Foxy - today really demonstrated to me that he is miles away from being ready - I think I'll try again in Easter hols

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 12/02/2010 21:28

I agree with Foxy. I had 2 "false starts" with Jamlet and then just left it totally for a few months.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 13/02/2010 14:02

Went out shopping this morning and bought some little bits for Jamlet to receive from Father Valentine It's a Norfolk tradition, where on Valentine's Night (or Valentine's Eve according to some bits I have been reading, but our family always did ot on the 14th) Father Valentine brings presents to the children, leaving them on the doorstap, then knocking and running away. We used to get little things, perhaps a notebook or some fancy rubbers (you know the smelly or flower shaped or similar ones) or some sweets. Nothing big. And never noticed at the time (the thrill of FV bringing presents was too great!) but it always coincided with when Mum or Dad had popped out to the shop, or to post a letter, or to visit a neighbour about something So after tea tomorrow I shall have to pop out and while I am gone Jamlet will get some parcels delivered, bringing her a Peppa Pig colouring set, a Postman Pat book, some coloured papers, a little bracelet and a bag od jelly babies

LackaDAISYcal · 13/02/2010 22:16

aw bless jammy, sounds lovely.

this is the first year of my life where I haven't even been bothered about celebrating, and in fact forgot to get DH a card...although we did say earlier this week that we weren't bothered this year. I know he got me one though, so I have dug a card out of my general card box....it does say "with love"

Maybe we should be celebrating, DH just got the all clear after his vasectomy

Cat still not well here; she is hardly eating (3/4 of one of those little square pots sonce yesterday) and barely moving but not in any obvious pain or discomfort. Back to vets on Monday I guess.

DH much better though (note his well being is further down the pecking order than the cat ) so the second lot of steroids are working. He is talking about going to work on Monday....I have siad I'll chain him to the bed (and not in a nice way!) if he even thinks about it. He needs to rest and get well or he will never shake whatever it is he has. Mind you, tis half term so work will probably be more restful!
Where is everyone?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 13/02/2010 22:30

No romantic celebrations between DH and I if that makes you feel better Daisy? But I like to mark the passing of notable dates etc, so am restarting the FV tradition of my youth, even though I'm not in Norfolk any more. And we are having a casserole of lambs hearts (and beef shin as there's not enough heart to feed us all) tomorrow.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 13/02/2010 22:31

And hope your cat gets better soon (and DH too! ) I have given 4 doses of insulin so far and am now quite OK about doing it.

LackaDAISYcal · 13/02/2010 23:20

casserole sounds offal...boom boom

how is the jamkit? Have you noticed an improvement already?

Daisy has eaten a bit more just now and is happily purring beside me, so maybe she has turned a corner?

I have had Too Much Wine...5 glasses, lol. Oh how times have changed; only a few weeks ago I would have sunk that without blinking!

Riapwhatyousow · 13/02/2010 23:21

Riapwhatyousow · 13/02/2010 23:23

CharlottesClan · 14/02/2010 08:44

Riapwhatyousow · 14/02/2010 13:42

good luck for DH natty, fingers crossed for you. Hope he isn't too awkward a patient when you get him home though

Riapwhatyousow · 14/02/2010 13:44

can I ask a question of Norty and Jammy (and anyone else with a science background) - when you did your degrees did you plan to be in the area of work you are in now? I am pondering my studies a bit, and what will come of them after, and just wondered if your job came about because of your qualifications, or your qualifications were planned with the job in mind. Does that make sense?

LittleMissNorty · 14/02/2010 17:24

Hello

Good luck to DH Natty.

Ria - was all the tension cos of your minor op? Did it go ok?

Hope all the poorly cats (and DHs!) are ok.

We had another 4" dump of snow last week and its only just going. I hope thats it for the winter now.

I'm one of those sad people Ria who knew exactly what career I wanted to do since the age of 13 and tailored my exams in order to get in. Took exams for 11 solid years after leaving school though . I originally wanted to be a dentist until I realised they fucking hurt you, then I watched Quincy and the rest is history (I don't quite do that though!). I work with an awful lot of people though who did "fall" into the profession. What are you thinking of doing? We take on a lot of lab assistants and they do NVQs / part-time BSc's and all sorts.

Am loving the olymics . Are you an olymics widow Foxy? Not loving the bloody rugby so much though . Its such a shame DH supports a team that are crap at playing it as well as it puts him in such a bad mood!

Yes, where is everyone?

JBM....how's that baby doing?

What is the latest on Bumper?

LittleMissNorty · 14/02/2010 17:25

forgot the "p" in olympics

Riapwhatyousow · 14/02/2010 17:54

thanks norty. Op went Ok too thanks. I am thinking along the lines of something for DEFRA, or with the national park or similar. Maybe field studies with the national park. But until I start studying I don't know really how relevant the course is to those areas.

DS1 is quite into the olympics. makes a nice change from the Good Life.

tea time... back later!
