oops, didn't notice the thread was getting too big!

PMSL at the Burn's night smilies; I thought they were wearing earphones.

not sure I agree with them; as a proud Scot, I hate all that fucking tacky tartan crap that we get labelled with, tartan tammies and fake ginger hair more than most

does it feel sore or anything then fairy? glad it's OK though.

sorry daisy, don't know. how far are you from the hospital? if it's near just go if you're worried. (now, before the pub-related-injuries start!) poor little poppet.

thanks for the wishes for DH (and for listening). He is out of surgery, but there has been some kind of problem and is on morphine, which they were not expecting. But he is able to text, and I think he has had some kind of virtual kick up the arse. Am hoping when he gets back we can start taking steps towards planning...

have about burned myself out today, cleaning the conservatory (again), it's hardly any time at all since it had it's spring clean, and tidying it today I found it to be under a layer of soot or something (volcanic ash?) anyway, it is all sparkly clean now, I even tidied out my stitching basket! I should be sorting through toys now, but have Fair Trade wine out of the freezer...

thanks for cycle advice too. 45 mins too long, half an hour would have been ok!

LackaDAISYcal · 08/05/2010 23:20

cheers guys; we tried some piriton and they calmed down a bit. So, not sure whether it is becaquse the piriton just clamed the irritation of it, or whether it is hayfever related. We'll see how he goes tomorrow as neoither of us relished the thought of Saturday night in A&E and after a week of sitting around waiting for doctors, nurses and dentists, I'm not overly keen on repeating the process so soon!

Jammy, I'm glad the counselling is paying dividends for you

yikes jbm.....sooooon then! Is L excited about it? A neighbour of mine has just had a baby and I am feeling really broody now!

glad the eyes are good fairy. Must be v ery weird indeed; I remember when I first got contacts I kept on trying to push my non-existent glasses up my nose! Would love laser surgery, but unfortunately my eye problems mean I'm not suitable. I could have one eye done, but I would still need glasses for the other eye, so not worth it. what happens though with old age related long sightedness.....do you still get that? I am already entering bi-focal terrritory

IKWYM about your neighbour daisy. Mine has finally had her baby, some time last week, and last weekend they had the house festooned with pink banners and balloons. So as well as being broody I was also wrist-slittingly miserable, as i have never had balloons and banners, pink or otherwise, and my time has passed. Haven't had a chance to congratulate them or peep at the baby yet (she is not overly friendly TBH,, will have to wait til he is out with the pram on his own), but there was a gorgeous baby girl at toddlers yesterday. We won't be going again, baggins was far too old for the others there, but my friend invited me and I didn't like to say no.

Baggins is hillarious at toddler church though, he is convinced the ladies that run it are Jesus... keeps me amused! He is going to playgroup/pre-school for an hour this week! (DM is appalled that I am letting him go un-potty-trained)

glad the piriton helped bumble, hope you all get a good nights rest and things are better tomorrow.

I am off to bed now too - doormat that I am I will be waking often (like I don't anyway) to see if DH has sent a text in a moment of need. I am rubbish at this!

Jammyrella · 09/05/2010 20:16

Where did the weekend go???

We had family film afternoon today Popcorn and Nemo. First time she has watched something that long all the way through. Towards the end DH paused the film to discuss holidays with me and Jamlet started waving wildly at the TV shouting "watch this watch this!"

Her speech is definitely picking up. We went to "Communication Through Play" for the first time on Friday, and it was good and we will continue, but I think we probably don't strictly need it now, as she is getting it together. Friday pm she climbed up a climbing frame/slide thing, peeked over the top and grinned very cheekily at me saying "Me kin' o ca-cle, Mummy dirdi ra-cle"

Good luck with the last few weeks JBM! Fingers crossed this one isn't so late. And glad DH got through the op Ria, and hope Bumble's OK.

My Dad should have had his operation on Thursday, but when they started they found that it couldn't be done - there were just too many spots in his heart that needed treatment So he has to remain on beta blockers for ever now Thankfully he has managed to change the time of day he takes them - he had been taking them in the morning but found he had to have an hour or two lying down afterwards, but now he has them before going to bed, so he sleeps off the ill effects.

And finally we have just arranged to have work on our patio started next weekend We are having it replaced and extended by about 50%, so it will end up about 20 x 30ft!

Riapentatleisure · 09/05/2010 21:52

for your Dad Jammy, but good they have been able to change the medication time.

Baggins fell asleep in the beanbag at my mums again. He woke at 5pm and came home in such a snitch, cuddled for a bit and went back to sleep again until 8pm am now trying to tidy the living room while he follows me round untidying the toys... DS2 had a tantrum when he went to bed because baggins was staying up and is younger than him. and DS1 is trying to justify missing the school choir concert (that he has missed lessons to rehearse for) on Wednesday because he has been asked to play a cricket match for the village. (I feel for him, but it makes him seem very unreliable if he lets the music teacher down)

LittleMissNorty · 10/05/2010 09:05

Hi everyone

Glad your eyes are good Fairy - how was it having them done - and LOL at bi-focal Daisy....I'm getting to the point where I have to put my glasses on to read anything and am forever saying "wheres my glasses"

Ria - how is DH doing? Sounds very difficult for you atm but be strong - you have done so well so far.

Glad DD is doing well Jammy with her speech - once they start and all that!!! I wish DD would shut up sometimes ....she sends me MAD.

How is DS2 now Daisy.....HPV sounds nasty...will it take ages to disappear / lay dormant? Poor little mite - and poor you - teething is bad enough

My two are sending me potty. I now understand the "testing out the boundaries" bit and how I keep my hands off her sometimes I don't know . I've done plenty of shouting recently! Teaching manners is so difficult - but we are getting there slowly. Also have taught spitting out toothpaste rather than swallowing, and blowing through your nose not your mouth - I have discovered I'm not a natural teacher (can't explain things at her level) and have no patience (FGS!!!)

How exciting JBM! Can't wait to hear the news!

So what is everyone getting for birthday's this year? I have just ordered www.bikes2udirect.com/B2563.html - god help me. We tried her out in ToysRus and she loved it. So much easier to pedal than toddler bikes. But, she HAS to give all her dummies away to the dummy fairy to get it (yes, I caved in at Xmas )

Hi Tallulah / BZ

Jammyrella · 10/05/2010 12:12

Sorry Fairy, I totally forgot to mention your eyes . Obviously it's right for you, but I would feel absolutely lost without my specs. I have been wearing them for 30 years now, and most of that time it is from waking up until falling asleep.

Norty, not sure what Jamlet'll be getting for her birthday . We had considered a bike, but then a friend just gave us one that looks like the smallest you'd get but it is still just too big for her, so I think she'll have to stay with her baby trike a bit longer and then is really excited about riding her Bob the Builder bike when she is big enough. We are thinking mini trampoline (the ones with a bar to hold on) and/or bigger paddling pool and/or play tent at the moment. I spoke to my parents last night and asked them if they would like to come down the weekend of her birthday, including attending the party. Mum can't make it, but Dad says he will come - and he sounded so excited about it you would think it was going to be HIS party

BabyGiraffes · 10/05/2010 20:26

Hi, can I join? Just a few years late... My dd1 is 3 in June and I also have a 3 months old dd2. Just wish I had discovered mumsnet first time round because it really would have helped with motherhood first time round!
Like your discussion of birthday presents. I have a massive Victorian dollshouse for dd1 but wonder if I really got it for myself!!

justbeme · 10/05/2010 21:20

Hi Babygiraffes - the more the merrier as this thread has really slowed up recently!!

We've already given L her birthday present (abit early I know!!)
It was supposed to be a 10ft trampoline with enclosure, but the company upgraded us to 12ft for an extra £20. It says for 6yrs plus (so we're abit naughty) - but she loves it!! Thought it would give me some time with the new baby in the summer. Have a scooter - reduced to £8 in january and a till reduced to £6 to open on the day!!. Im having to be organised this year - probably won't have a proper party though - maybe just 2 friends for tea.

Jammyrella · 11/05/2010 11:53

Hello and welcome BabyGiraffes - and congratulations on both your DDs. Hope you will come back again!

And thanks JBM, you have reminded me that I have some bits hidden under my tshirts that we bought in the sales for Jamlet's birthday! A Charlie&Lola DVD and playset. I also have some bits put away for Christmas so must remember those when the time comes!

We have confirmation that there is space at the preschool we want her to go to in Sept I am at the thought of being able to work 5 mornings each week, but and about her starting "school" so soon. But I think she will enjoy it. She loves nursery now, and tbh I think she gets a bit bored at home sometimes .

Riapentatleisure · 11/05/2010 12:08

hi all, welcome babygiraffes

just had a look at bikes, the one I like is nearly £80 so maybe this baggins saw me looking and is convinced it is him

DH in a lot of pain sadly, the operation turned out bigger than they were expecting, he has had his bicep tendon removed (apparently it would have snapped in a couple of months and the bicep bolted to the bone, and an inch and a half of bone removed from the top of the shoulder joint. The complications came about because he didn't have a "block" in the shoulder, so when the anaesthetic wore off he was on hourly morphine and the ward wouldn't take him back from recovery (typical of DH). He came over yesterday for tea and to see the boys, which was nice. I am shattered from thinking . Am worried I have been on my own too long (I know it's only been 2 1/2 months, but it has seemed like an age, and I have managed - not happily, but we've got by, and got routines and stuff. it is really a "shouting arse in the street" moment! Also DH is in a sling for a week, then 2 weeks more before he can go back to work (though he is on "reduced duties", overseeing and ordering etc, but not touching!), but then has 10 weeks without any lifting. Which adds an element of awkwardness, as if he were to come back I'll have to move all his stuff , and it'll be a pain. Really I wish he would just come outright and say "please can I come back", rather than all this discussing and pondering and going in circles. having to drive him to and from work every day would be better than this

sorry again.

at your Dad with the party jammy. I love that. We will have to do something special for Baggins this year as he has missed out. Hopefully it will be a weekend of celebration as it's out wedding anniversary 2 days later

sorry, am bored today, and so tired.

Riapentatleisure · 11/05/2010 12:18

IKWYM jammy. I am really hoping there won't be a place for baggins til after christmas but apparently it is a small numbers year. He is starting playgroup tomorrow, the lady who runs it (and has been there since DS1 went, so she knows how rubbish I am) has offered him an hour a week to ease us both in gently (and until I can afford the full session), I think he will love it, but it will kill me (until I get used to it!!!)

I have made an appointment at the doctors to organise getting my implant removed, it is causing me too many problems. It is due out in September anyway, so I am starting early in case it takes a long time to get referred. Haven't looked into alternatives yet. Need something long-term but not permanent (am not ready to make the "no more" decision yet even though I need a lottery win to even consider more)

Jammyrella · 11/05/2010 18:01

Those balance bikes are meant to be really good Ria And sorry about DH's shoulder Hope he gets better soon and that things work out for you both. Can't believe it's been that long already though .

I'm all worn out from coughing, this chest infection is dragging me down. But hopefully the ABs I got yesterday will kick in soon.

Jammyrella · 13/05/2010 12:34

Can anyone help me here?

justbeme · 13/05/2010 20:08

Ahh Jammy - it is so annoying when they wont tell you what the matter is isnt it??
Why don't you ask her again tomorrow. L wouldn't tell me something at the time and then opened up and told me that a lady had told her to sit down (which she didnt like being told!!).

Ria there are some balance bikes in Jojomaman bebe for £49-52. They seem expensive for other items - so Im sure you can get them cheaper elsewhere.

Jammyrella · 13/05/2010 20:36

Well I asked her at bedtime tonight if the reason she hadn't liked the dancing was that she was tired and she said yes. I said if she didn't like it we don't have to go any more but she said "go again". So I think we'll persevere I might ask the woman who runs it not to come over and try to involve her though unless she show some interest as that keeps making her cry

Swimming was good though this afternoon, but she was exhausted by 6.30 tonight !

Riapentatleisure · 13/05/2010 22:24

maybe she is a bit self-conscious? (sp?) it could well be the extra attention they are giving to get her to join in that is upsetting her more. it has taken ages (mainly because I am inconsistent and don't go every week) for baggins to get involved at toddler church, but today (we were late cos I had a bath and washed my hair, and squeezedinto smaller jeans that don't fall down when I move!) he ran down the aisle to the front without me, and sat in the story circle for the first time! (even though his favourite "jesus lady" wasn't there and he had to make do with the vicars wife!)

I had a bizarre conversation with DS2 walking to school the other day about irrational fears after we walked past my (ex) friend with her dog and he said he found black dogs and cats (I did think he said "hats" to begin with) "freaky"! Funny really because Obe is black, but apparently his white patches make him OK...

Riapentatleisure · 13/05/2010 22:28

oh, thanks JBM. TBH I don't know if we want one, it's just finding something to give him that we haven't already got (without resorting to Playmobil). Maybe will go for a small present and a very special outing, and a tea party with Grannie and Grandad instead

Riapentatleisure · 13/05/2010 22:53

just had a look on ebay and there are a couple of balance bikes within collecting distance that I have put on watch. I would really like a proper bike with a parent handle but they are very expensive (and can't find any on ebay!)

Jammyrella · 15/05/2010 21:20

Hi all. At my parents for weekend. Jamlet fell today and hurt her foot/ankle. She has only walked about half a dozen steps since (and only one or two at a time) as she cries when she stands on it. But when sitting down is fine (after about 15 mins howling until Granny brought out magic biscuits ). Seems to be able to move it OK, so I am assuming a twisted ankle and needs to rest it a bit. Unless seriously bad tomorrow won't do anything other than give painkiller and allow her to use pushchair more as required. But if anyone else has helpful hints, I am all ears!

Riapentatleisure · 15/05/2010 23:08

aww, poor jamlet. Hope she is OK tomorrow. The healing power of Grannies is a phenomenon (apparently at this point in a science lesson DS1 and his class hum the muppets tune) Baggins is an addict a big fan of arnica cream and rescue rememdy pastilles, or failing that whatever Garnny has in her "little bag" that comes out of a tube! (usually germolene or antiseptic of some kind).

after a rotten start to the day with not enough sleep and a shouty mummy, plus I was pissed off with DH last night so not in a very accommodating mood for today's plan of spending the day together, we had a pretty good day. I decided I couldn't face the day in the house with the boys, so I packed up a picnic and when we collected DH we headed off to some local woods, and did a 4 mile "pushchair" walk. Am glad we didn't bother take the buggy and let baggins walk (even if it did take us a bit longer than the book said). There were a few places I would have struggled with it. We bought half a dozen eggs halfway round from a cottage doorstep (champion eggs of the Ryedale Show no less) - for once I managed to get it right and the kids had "dippy egg" for tea. They were beside themselves with excitement at every mouthful. Just from a simple egg

Took DM out last night to see DS1s school production of "Joseph", which was fab. DS1 was in the chorus and did a cracking job of an Egyptian walk! (sadly all his stupid facial expressions and the fact he wasn't following the score were quite obvious too). We had a lovely time, despite the mayor knocking my tea over and draping his jacket in it (but he won't know it was mine) and DM telling me off for driving at a whole 52MPH...

LittleMissNorty · 16/05/2010 19:16

We had dippy eggs for lunch and K also got stupidly excitied over them....both scoffed them though. I have also learnt from trial and error to do them for 4 and a half mins....I hate flobby bits

Poor DD Jammy....hope she improves soon x

We are day 3 with no dummy at night for DD and so far, so good....not even a murmur....so she can have her bike after all

Riapentatleisure · 17/05/2010 09:37

morning all. pah, it's Monday!

Jammyrella · 17/05/2010 19:36

at dippy egg excitement (or should that be eggcitement?)

Jamlet was limping on Sunday morning, but could walk on it once she had shoes on - they must have given some support. But as the day wore on it eased off and by the end of the day she was trotting round my Aunt's garden quite happily It was a good weekend but I am exhausted now. There was a 10km race on yesterday that my nephew and cousin were both running in so we all went to watch, and then back to my Aunt's afterwards. My nephew was 5th, which was pretty good I thought.

Riapentatleisure · 17/05/2010 22:52

yay jammy, I SO wanted to put that in a text to DH (he bought the eggs), but I restrained myself. AM glad it's not just me

well done to your nephew, and yay for jamlet feeling better

DS2 home ill today (though he was well enough to nag and eat custard creams) poor thing is determined to go back to school tomorrow as it's Badgers tomorrow night. Not sure if he's up to it though, and he was up later than I intended as I was tidying out my jewellry/makeup drawer into the new drawers and he was busy nagging me about that, and "helping".

am shattered and stressed after the big key hunt. and the one night I asked DS1 to stay down and help me look, he was in the bath and bed by 9.30! am really cross to have missed my study session too, but there's no way I could settle to it now
