Oi! Over 'ere!

I'm using my sick leave well and have just booked a holiday in Oban - we're going to see Balamory and sea eagles, hopefully.

OP posts:

Egypt, I hope your DH's pain settles down soon. Try and get some sleep.

DD has cut 4 molars all at the same time. She had been a bit restless lately at night but as shes never been a sleep through the night baby we didnt click why. Then on Friday I gave her some teething gel and noticed that there were 4!! all trying to come through. They are finally through now so at least were back to waking only twice a night She has started telling us that she is having a poo poo or fluffing. She giggles if she fluffs and announces very loudly 'poo poo' im sure MIL is a bad influence on her.

GeorginaA · 18/08/2005 15:35

Because I just know you're all desperate to know... I did finish making the cheesecake !

egypt · 18/08/2005 21:09

mmmmmmmm, save us a bit.

your dd sounds a clever little thing, kbaby. all that talking and fluffing! made me laugh.

dh isnt too bad. he's still in pain but can at least get a little bit comfortable lying down. i hope he doesnt wake me tonight. and dd had better not even THINK of waking.

kbaby, i do hope your dd settles at night soon. mine didnt until 13 months. it wasnt anything we did or didnt do, she just decided to go from 1 or 2 wakings to none. she may wake 2-3 times a week now, but just the once. i thought she would never ever sleep through. i hope the same happens for you.

spots · 19/08/2005 20:10

God how I would love some cheesecake...!

DD and I were in Edinburgh today. She spent a few hours with her granny while I had a Lunch Appointment, so both of us had a nice day. She is loving train rides. All those cows, planes, boats and OTHER PEOPLE to make friends with. Blimey, if she is half as sociable in the rest of her childhood as she is right now I'll have a party animal on my hands. She was pointing out everyone's chins today. Chin, Chin, Chin! and Hair, Hair, Hair! Got a few baleful glares but mostly people are v. indulgent. If someone doesn't want to say hello to her she gives such an exasperated sigh.

Had my scan on Wednesday. Turns out I am only 6 weeks pg!! gerk.... these tests must be mighty sensitive. It was almost disturbing to see such a tiny little thing in there; it looked so vulnerable.

egypt · 19/08/2005 20:58

ahhhh spots. so when are you due? i was half expecting you to say you were 6 months or something!

dh is bad bad bad. his shoulder is still extremely painful and he now has a migraine to top it off. he is taking an anti-inflammatory every 4 hours as well as paracetamol every 4 hours, codeine every 6 hours, diazapam every 8 hours. i am concerned that this is giving him the headache! he shouldnt be taking more than 8 paracetamols in 24 hrs should he? but he insists the doc said every 4 hours and is adamant that he needs them. been taking them since monday though! eeek. i'm sure the doc wasnt thinking of through the night too.

egypt · 19/08/2005 20:59

so spots, when you found out you were preg, you weren't even late for your p? i can remember you telling us when i was at my mum's and that was about 3 weeks ago. i think...

spots · 21/08/2005 19:36

Oh Egypt poor poor you, sounds awful with DH. In another age he'd probably have been hospitalised, which might be easier for both of you! Hope the weekend panned out even slightly ok...

Yes well I haven't had a period since July 2003!! because b/feeding till only recently. So I don't know if it would have been late or not but yes it must've been about 3 weeks ago I found out. Madness.

kbaby · 21/08/2005 21:30

Egypt when I was taking ibuprofen for a bad back each day they started giving me headaches maybe its everything hes taking. I hope he gets better soon .
DD does seem to be quite talkative. She says about 30 words which is more than her friends. I dont know why as its nothing that me or DH have done to teach her the words. She just copies what we say. She esp likes books and has as pointing out the animals, people etc all the time. I bored of reading the same books. Theres only so much hungry catepillar I can take.

kbaby · 21/08/2005 21:32

Georginaa, how comes you always seem to be baking such lovely food and with two boys to look after. I am impressed.

We have asda home cooked food quite a bit.

Bozza · 21/08/2005 21:42

Egypt - poor you and DH. Hope there as been an improvement over the w/e. Spots at you not having a period for so long. Mine came back while still breast feeding (ie after I started weaning) both times. Kbaby very impressed with your DD's vocab. Not sure how many words DD can say, probably more than I think. However she is still embarrassing us with the choice of words she is learning. Having mastered Mummy and Daddy and hiya you would think that she would move onto bye bye and all gone. But no her latest offering is tele....

We believe that is tele as in teletubbies rather than television as she has all of a sudden gone mad for them. And she said baby and pointed at her sunshine mobile which again I blame on the teletubbies factor ( you know, the baby in the sunshine on the programme).

GeorginaA · 22/08/2005 08:17

kbaby It's still fairly rare, although I try and cook a "treat" once a week (planning flapjacks this week) as a fairly cheap but tasty dessert. Getting sick of always having yoghurt & fruit, to be honest. Also, I've found myself recently really sensitive to the taste of processed/additive food - just tastes artificial to me (oh my god, heightened tastebuds... argh, I'm not pregnant am I?!) so I've been trying to avoid them.

Plus, dessert cooking is more fun than "real" cooking cos it feels naughty

egypt · 22/08/2005 13:08

yes desert cooking sounds nice. i went blackberry picking yesterday and our neighbours gave us about 100 plums from their tree, so georgina, prufrock..... what can i do with those??? easy pleasey

dh isnt too bad now. he still find lying the most comfortable position, so is catching up on some work on the laptop on the bed. still on all the painkillers though. should be in work tomorrow afternoon if all goes well. think i may have to take him though.

well, i've taken my last pill, and because i am in 2 minds whether to try for another baby, i have decided to not get any more and just 'see how it goes'. with my luck prob fall first time and then think oh sh*t. a 2 year age gap sounds good, just a bit scared to be doing it all over again.

GeorginaA · 22/08/2005 15:23

Um the obvious would be a fruit crumble? Or some sort of fruit turnover? Hmm... will have a think How exciting re: stopping of the pill! This really is a fertile thread ;) Keep us posted, won't you?

GeorginaA · 22/08/2005 17:32

Okay, THE best blackberry dessert in the world - not for the children, and definitely eat before you get preggers

Put blackberries in a pretty bowl (one of those glass icecream glass/dishes is good), soak thoroughly with a couple of good glugs of Creme de Cassis. Marinate as long as you can keep yourself from eating them. Serve with cream

egypt · 22/08/2005 19:44

ooo, sounds similar. i put blackberries and some apples in a pan, poured over a little water and drambuie (mmm), simmered until apples were soft, then scoffed with double cream. mmmmmmmm. not sure about the plums. there are sooooo many. how do you make jam? obvious i'm sure, but i am pretty useless.

GeorginaA · 22/08/2005 19:47

I have no idea. The only thing I remember about jam making is my mother swearing her head off in the kitchen after we'd moved house... apparently electric stoves (at the time) didn't get the fruit hot enough to make jam, or something. Gas is far superior!

That's the sum total of my jam making knowledge

GeorginaA · 22/08/2005 19:47

Do plums freeze?

egypt · 22/08/2005 22:34

don't know. and we have electric, so never mind! might just munch my way through them. dd won't eat them. in fact she eats no fruit apart from bananas and dried fruit. i make up for it with organix fruit purees. she wont even eat the blackberries.

same for veggies actually.

Bozza · 23/08/2005 10:26

My DD won't eat fruit purees anymore Egypt. Think its because she realises none of us are doing. Of course she will eat the same thing with a crumble topping and custard. And will eat blackberries if they are accompanied by ice-cream.

No problem with the veg though, although we are a pretty veggie munching family.

You lot are all making me feel broody. And its not on. To have another baby would cost me a fortune. I've given all my baby stuff away except the pram and the cot because they are still in use. The car seat, the high chair, the sling, the bouncy chair, the door bouncer, sackfuls of boys clothes up to 18 months, girls clothes up to 6 months - they're all gone. The baby walker (pushalong) is going on Friday. Not to mention £375 month in childcare fees. But can't help being a bit and a bit .

kbaby · 23/08/2005 20:27

DD wont eat fruit either only raisins and so weve also been giving the organix fruit purress. Shell eat veg if its disguised ie in a sauce but otherwise she will only eat peas. If we take her to a pub for lunch we can give her a plate of peas to eat and it keeps her quiet for ages
Weve started trying for baby 2. We started in may but nothing upto now, dont know if im releived or not

SusiS · 24/08/2005 06:52

oh yummy!!! will you lot stop talking about food!!!!! i can eat for the kingdom atm anyways

luckily ds loves fruits. yesterday for pudding he had a pear, a nectarine and a plum
do you give your lo's raw veggies? he wouldn't eat that. but he also loves his meat or bread!
well, if you gave him all at once he'd certainly have his preferences though. meat then fruit then bread. BUT he absolutly adores sausages

kbaby just make sure you won't be pregnant during the summer

egypt hope your dh gives you a break and is up and about by now!! omg, another one going for another baby
what did i start??????

Bozza · 24/08/2005 10:40

DD would go for bread then meat then throw her fruit on the floor and say 'uh-oh'.

We had a very (unusually) disturbed night with her last night ended up giving her medicine a couple of times but we are not sure what the problem was. Wondered about tummy ache, sore head/lips (very accident prone atm - huge lump on head on Sun, bust bottom lip on Mon, top lip on Tues etc) or teeth. Anybody got any back molars appearing yet? she seems fine this morning although a bit lost because big bro is staying at Grandma's until today.

egypt · 24/08/2005 21:04

yes we have all 4 molars showing their way through. had a bad night with dd so far bozza. she has only just gone to sleep. that's after me getting her up twice. the first time she had a runny nappy.....not looking good and a sore bum. second time, just playing up i think. left her to cry in the end whilst i put the car in the garage and when i got in she had gone off.

we love the raisins here too. loads of them. she does like picking onion out of meaty meals, like chilli though. likes rice. anyone else's?

Bozza · 25/08/2005 09:12

Do you mean the very back molars Egypt rather than the pre-molars because that would mean you are nearly there with this teething thing wouldn't it. DD has had the pre-molars for a while and the canines have filled in but no sign of back molars. She'll just have got them and DS's will start falling out! Someone told him about loosing teeth and he got in a panic thinking they would all drop out at once! So I had to tell him all about the nice tooth fairy to settle him down as it was nearly bedtime.

Do you mean she picks out the onions to eat or reject? DD just happily eats them along with everything else and has happily been eating mild chillies for about 6 months. She likes rice (easy to self-feed) but loves couscous.

DS was back from his Grandma's where he'd had a really good time then day out with Daddy but was not at all pleased to see me. Got the feeling I was being punished and he was also v. tired. But then happily went off to spend the night at his friends. Took himself off upstairs to get in the bath with friend who was already in bath. DD even more confused than ever about whats going on.

Also had a major incident with DD and a lipstick this morning. Had a brief panic because at first glance it looked like blood and there was a lot of it. And it was a clinique lipstick.

spots · 25/08/2005 13:57

Hello, nice reading a bit after being off for a few days. I have to sleep when DD sleeps atm, so my online time is a bit reduced. Egypt, good luck ttc!! wowee. Not that DH sounds like he could help you much right now. Is he any better?

Bozza, you know what we'd all say... about more babies... just don't even bring the subject up on here!

DD luckily is a fruit lover. She says, plum, plum, very sweetly and would happily relieve you of a few Egypt. Proper meals still a bit unsure of, but I serve them up and let her do what she can with them. She would kill for pasta. Macaroni cheese causes great excitement. Not really a\ very meaty girl though.

What do you babies wear in bed nowadays? DD still wears sleepsuits and they really are my preferred option because they keeo her nappy on, but it's getting hard to find big enough ones. Anyone onto pajamas yet? I suppose when they're walking they can't have their feet covered any more.

Bought cruising shoes the other day - she is so tough on baby shoes and, again, hard to find big enoough ones.
