Oi! Over 'ere!

I'm using my sick leave well and have just booked a holiday in Oban - we're going to see Balamory and sea eagles, hopefully.

Ponka that is a great tip. Can't believe you managed that while in new mum mode. Didn't realise that you were near Sherwood Forest, thought you were in London.

DD was awake for about an hour again in the night and really genuinely upset. I ended up sitting there for ages while she got off to sleep and she was still sobbing after she was asleep. Really don't know what to do.

And did I mention she has adopted a jar of peanut butter as her comfort object?

Ponka · 20/04/2006 23:29

Nottingham, Bozza. Sorry to hear about DD. He - he, Peanut Butter?!

DS1 has had tantrum after tantrum today but he is a little poorly. He's been moany at night, too. I think he has more teeth coming through.

It's been funny these last few days. We gave him a Winnie the Pooh bear for Easter. He's not picking up the name though. He calls it "We need a poo"! ShockGrin

Night.

Bozza re: DD waking up frightened. I wonder if this is some developmental thing? Both of mine have done it round about the same age (just come out other side with DS). Both helped by putting in a nightlight. That was enough for DD, with DS we also have added little ritual of switching it off and on by himself. He too was waking up and wouldn't drop off back to sleep until I went in. Didn't have to DO anything, just show my face. Unfortunately my 3am face isn't the most welcoming sight!
Ds's speech is coming on great. He can now stand and bellow "I need a nose blow" which usually sends me running, as it is swiftly followed by the funnel-tongued, slurping noise which can make me heave!

kbaby · 21/04/2006 20:50

Bozza - DD cries at lullabys, ants, dirt on the floor, babies crying and the sharks on nemo. I guess its all perfectly normal.

Her speech is also coming on and we can make out most things apart from when she talks or sings to herself at which point she seems to add everyword she knows together to make a song so its sounds complete gibberish.

Bozza · 25/04/2006 10:10

kbaby - DD does that singing thing sometime - sort of goes off into her own world by doing it. Well the sleep has been a bit him and miss. Saturday night from hell - awake for 3 hours, tried sitting in her room etc, brought her into bed with me (DH banished himself to settee), she wriggled about for about 1 hour including falling out of bed (but didn't cry), demanded milk - I gave water, and then went back into her cot and slept for 6 hours. DS got himself up and played with his lego for an hour before either DH or I woke up. Shock I was so grateful to him. Sunday night slept through. Last night woke briefly about midnight, then was awake from about 5.30 but rather whinging than the full on crying. Didn't let her get up until 7 and I am pretty sure that is a light mornings issue so I can deal with that.

Hello everyone.

Congratulations Ponka and Spots! Hope your bigger families are all doing well.

We now have the joys of "lazeeeeeeeeetown!" - dd1 loves it and now, because she does, so does dd2 (she worships dd1). The only way to get them out of bed now is to mention Lazytown and that's it - both of them up, fed, dressed and washed by 7.45 so they can watch the last 15 minutes!

Dd2 has started putting more words together and she lets us fill in the gaps for her. She's also now pushing us away if she is doing a poo or a wee - "go away! dd2 pooting!" Maybe she'll potty train earlier than dd1 (2yrs 8 months).

By the way, do they have an 18 - 24 mth check from the HV? I'm sure I'm waiting for something but not sure what.

Going to buy a kitchen for dd2's second birthday. Any recommendations?

Bozza · 27/04/2006 10:22

We have ELC kitchen and that seems fine. Think it is a good toy for and older and younger one to play with together. DD's is in her bedroom and quite often they will play on a weekend morning while we lie in bed.

My friend's DD had a check shortly after her second birthday so am expecting that.

Ponka · 27/04/2006 14:18

Another vote for that ELC kitchen here. DS loves his and it's a saviour at the moment while I'm feeding DS2. We are getting DS1 a sandpit, I think, and a dressing gown.

Funny timing with your HV question. My HV has just been today to see DS2 but she mentioned that in our area the 18 - 2yrs check has recently been abolished but that we should get a letter asking if we think he is developing normally and if there are any problems you can just make an appointment.

spots · 27/04/2006 15:24

yes our HV said something similar.

Judd · 27/04/2006 18:53

Our health authority sends out letters at 2 years rather than having a formal check. It's "yes, no, don't know" boxes to tick.

Also only a quick visit, being forced to play Pop Up Dragon before DD will go to bed (got friends coming round!)

Bozza · 27/04/2006 21:03

I'm sure my friend had a visit though because she got all worried. Apparently her DD had to do a wooden puzzle thing and stack some blocks and second baby syndrome "we don't do that with her". Wink

Bozza · 27/04/2006 21:03

Ooh forgot to add - I am making a butterfly cake for DD's birthday.

egypt · 28/04/2006 21:18

hmm, think i'll get a cake made in shape of a 2 - won't dare make my own for so many adults!

dd got her 2 year check letter today. its on 16 may. so before she is 2. my friend's little boy had his so we know the routine. he had to build blocks, jump, throw ball, identify cat, dog,car etc and try and name them if possible. we've been practising. Wink

want to get dd a kitchen for her bday too. want to put inside the big house that parents are buying her - so its outside out of the house!

oh and lazy town is a hit here too. she is mesmerized. a little unsure of it i have to say. keeps asking me over and over again:

"whassat mummy?"
"lazy town"
"whassat mummy?"
"lazy town"
"whassat mummy?"
"lazy town"
"whassat mummy?"
"lazy town"
"whassat mummy?"
.........

Bozza · 29/04/2006 21:35

House will have to be bigger than our playhouse then Egypt. The ELC kitchen would take most of that up, but think it is just about the smallest house on the market.

DD had a very clumsy day yesterday and did herself several injuries (lump on head, bitten lip and grazed both knees all as seperate events). Anyway after she bled on my white jumper from her knees I put plasters on them both. Now thanks to DS she will not let me take them off. We've been helping clear my Grandma's house today and the kids were playing in the garden so she's go them filthy but still won't let me take them off. Argh!

helsy · 30/04/2006 11:45

Blimey, Dd can't jump! She can run and do the other stuff you mentioned, but definitely no jumping! She's still very small with a huge belly and little hair, still quite babyish-looking really. I've just put some 2 yr trousers on her and had to roll them up three times!

The ELC kitchen seems to be the most expensive - may have to go for another. Or just stop buying wine for a month Blush

OP posts:
Bozza · 30/04/2006 20:16

I got my ELC kitchen when it was on offer. DD is still mainly in 12-18 clothes with a few 18-24. 2yo would drown her, except from Vertbaudet. Not sure she can jump either.

Managed to get plasters off her knees whilst her cousin was distracting her by having a paddy about having his nappy changed. But now has black oblongs on knees that she will not let me wash off and cries everytime she sees. Think it will be a trouser day tomorrow...

SusiS · 30/04/2006 21:07

kitchen a great hit here too - we've got ours from woolworths

18mth clothes Shock - with some clothes i even prefer 2-3yr old!! guess ds is a big chunky boy Wink

and he's jumping like a kangaroo. and climbing like a monkey and chatting like an old housewife :o

sometimes we do get the oh so brown hand straight out of his nappy = his way to tell us it's time to change it! - we got him a 'step-onto-toilet-seat-thingy' and he likes using it before bath. last 2 days he wee'ed just before he climbed up (luckily on the tiled floor in the bathroom) - today he managed to climb up that one step and while he was contemplating how to turn around and sit down he actually did the trick standing there - lots of applause i have to say :o

Judd · 30/04/2006 21:21

Hello Susi! How are you and your family? How is DD doing and how old is she now? I was thinking about you and other May Babies people the other day, and wondering if we should start a new 2nd birthday thread and have a good catch up.

DS is in 18-24 month clothes except for trousers which are 2-3 years. Luckily my good friend has her boy and girl the opposite way round to me IYSWIM and so we just swap our clothes straight over for our second children - bargain! And I do get floods of happy memories from seeing her DD wear something that I remember my DD in....aaah!

SusiS · 01/05/2006 08:06

hey judd! i see you've got everything planned well there. with when to have your kids etc. :o

thanks, we are great! routine is settling in and dd is 7 months next week! yep, don't ask me where the time went. somehow with no.2 it's sooo much faster!
she's sitting up now but no signs of any other movement (not that i am complaining :o) - at least i know where she is (if i remember where i've put her!)
weaning is a very slow process. sometimes i think if something's wrong. but then i have to remind myself that ds was 'the wrong one' - he could eat just about anything and as much as he could get hold of! - but she's eager to try new tastes preferably as fingerfoods (still quite boring so like 'toast')
AND she's basically sleeping through (6-6) :o
again different because ds took aaaaages to do that. but then again i think 2nd time round you are just more laid back. because she does cry out a few times i just let her get on with it!
and my earplugs work a treat Wink

guess a 2yr thread is needed very soon! have you got any big plans for your party?
nothing big here. also he'll get lots of presents :o (making up for last year when he didn't get much at all! lol i guess i just want to justify it to myself!!)

he's running around like mad all day long. jumping and climbing. he's very (very very) active
showing some sort of interested in 'toilet issues' - the last 3 days he actually told me that he's done a poo and wanted (Shock) changing!! but we are waiting for much warmer weather - no way i am doing 5 loads of washing every day!
and he's talking for the kingdom! still haven't found the off-button!!!!
and he hasn't got a problem with 2 languages at all (was a bit worried to start with) - the only one who struggles is dp :o

so what have you been up to? what's new with you?

Bozza · 01/05/2006 21:16

So Susi how is it that my second one is coming up two and waking up in the night? Whereas my first one at coming up 2 was sleeping 7.30-7.30? Grin Actually agree with you but just think DD is going through a bad phase.

Judd think new thread would be a good idea. This one getting a bit tired. So who's going to start it? Smile

Judd · 01/05/2006 21:30

Don't mind starting it, but don't know what to call it! Very paranoid since I read a thread where somebody said that all the post natal & ante natal threads had crap, annoying titles.

Bozza · 02/05/2006 08:54

Ooh yes I read that too, but now that we are verging on having 3 May postnatal clubs we have to be able to distinguish. Grin

helsy · 03/05/2006 23:38

well I'll start one then, with suitably irritating title.....just thinking........
