Oi! Over 'ere!

I'm using my sick leave well and have just booked a holiday in Oban - we're going to see Balamory and sea eagles, hopefully.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Prufrock · 13/08/2005 22:35

Barbados cream - half double cream, whipped to thick but not stiff, half greek yogurt, folded in. Sprinkle with any brown sugar (darker it is the stronger) until a "thick carpet" then fridge for 24-48 hours and whisk. (It's from Nigella's How to eat)

spots - we missed you. but thank you so much for the CD's- such a nice thought. I spent all of 2 seconds grabbing clothes as I was still in the shower when Susi arrived! The babies were all very well behaved and played delightfully together - in fact I think romance may be blossoming between baby egypt and baby prufrock.

And one of the main things we were discussing was how easy a baby seems when you are used to dealing with a mobile toddler. G.and I can offer so much reassurance taht you will cope - in fact you will often wonder why you were ever busy when all you had was one small baby. BUt if at all possible sort out some childcare for the elder one so you get to enjoy the bliss of a new baby without the stress of a being a new mother.

SusiS · 14/08/2005 08:43

oops prufrock!! didn't mean to make you just 'any' clothes!!! we expected to arrive at least 30min later. - thumbs up to your dh! very good host - and nice too

and spots, i agree on childminding! i started putting lucas 2 half days into nursery! we've just started so i'll benefit from next week on - but will let you know how it goes!
(it's just so tough being pregnant with a toddler!! and such an active one too!!)

had a quick rumage in my bag for the block! well, not that i DID take it but you never know! phewwwww, not in my bag

G i too can't believe how much your ds2 ate

and i think our other halfs are more reliefed now that none of us is THAT mad really!
well, obviously i can only talk about the people who attended

oh and P, dp is well impressed with your 'energy levels'!!! then again, everybody's got more energy atm compared with me

egypt · 14/08/2005 09:00

we missed you spots. forgot to say thank you for the CD! you are just a little star. played it in the car on the way home, but dd was already asleep. dh just wanted to see what it was. his face was a picture as the tunes of 'the wheels on the bus' came on. hee hee

no yellow brick here either.

i wish i'd taken the camera. completely forgot. dd and prufrock's ds were cracking me up in the ball pool.

there were 6 of us, spots: prufrock, susi, cat, ponka, georgina and me. and all dp's except ponka's.

Twiglett · 14/08/2005 09:22

sounds really good fun .. feel a little that I wasn't there

next time maybe?

GeorginaA · 14/08/2005 11:08

Prufrock, checked our bag to see if the block got shoved in there but can't see it - hope you find it soon! Don't think it was our elephant either - think the boys only brought cars and they were left in our car, but will check the animal box later!

Twig - how are you feeling now? Hope you are getting lots of feet up time this weekend. Agree we definitely have to do it again. Would be happy to have it at my house as long as people don't mind a bit of a squeeze and all the buffet stuff courtesy of Waitrose Or an alternative venue is fine too. Want to aim for October time-ish or are most people really busy now until New Year time?

Ponka · 15/08/2005 13:11

Any time for me Georgina. Waitrose sounds perfect. It'd be downgraded to Tescos if it were here

No yellow brick here. I did notice that there was something square in the ball blaster, though. Don't know if you found that or perhaps it's the missing yellow brick? I bet it's been posted somewhere really bizarre. They all seem really into posting things through things at the moment, don't they?

Cheers spots. We went to Rutland lake and the Butterfly farm there with DS and then out on our own in the evening for a meal. I am feeling tired too, and a little sick but not too bad.

Ds has just gone down for a nap. I wonder if I should A) Catch up on the ever increasing housework there seems to be at the moment or B) Catch some Zzzzs myself. Hmmmmm.... Difficult choice

GeorginaA · 15/08/2005 13:21

Oh god, just had a thought - it wasn't posted into the vase was it? A couple of the babies were really fascinated with it...

LOL, you're going to have to tell us where you find it when it turns up, Prufrock

Prufrock · 15/08/2005 13:48

Nope. The yellow knife was in the vase, and teh blue saucer, green plate and my watch turned up in the ball pit, but still no sign of the bloody yellow brick.
I know it's incredibly pathetic of me but that gap in the brick trolley is really annoying me. If I don't find it I will have to take out a blue, green and red one to even up the lines.....

Hope you are fast asleep ponka, and glad you enjoyed yesterday. Have you discovered White Post farm yet btw - it's wonderful. DD still goe on about the goat that ate her hair there a year ago.

spots · 15/08/2005 14:00

Prufrock, give us the dimensions of the hole and we'll mount a may babies-wide search for a replacement.

Agree about posting fever. DD loves to post her little socks down the loo while I am helpless in the shower.

kbaby · 15/08/2005 14:55

Egypt, The septum is the cartilage that seperates your nostrils. Apparently mine is wonky. The sinuses are behind your cheekbones and eyes. Each time I get a cold I get very bad pain in these areas and when you bend forward its painful. Also for the past 3 years my sense of smell comes and goes. It means that I never knew when DD needed changing or when I was burning the dinner. A CAT scan showed that my sinuses were blocked and the opeartion would clear them out, Not sure exactly what they did but it involved chiselling!!
The op wasnt too bad but TMI they put packing in which when its taken out the next day feels as if my brains were coming out also. Ive got a slight headache and my nose is bleeding but feel ok. I had to stay in 1 day extra as I lost a pint of blood in the operation. Im just bored now. MIL has DD because I cant bend, lift etc.
Im glad you all had such a good time. I wished I couldve met you all but what with the ope, the travelling and DH not wanting to come. I wasnt brave enough. Im hungry now though from reading the descriptions of the food you all had...mmm...

kbaby · 17/08/2005 13:39

HELLOO.....

egypt · 17/08/2005 19:04

anybody theeeeeeeeeeere?....................

SusiS · 17/08/2005 19:05

hiding

GeorginaA · 17/08/2005 19:05

knackered...

egypt · 17/08/2005 19:10

up to my eyes in it. dh is off work.. he woke at 4.22AM on sunday/monday in agony. he managed to tear a ligament whilst sleeping! since then he has been unable to do anything but lie still and flat. it hurts to sit, stand, anything. he cant even get into a comfortable position to eat so i'm having to feed him lying down. for gawd's sake. men. no, seriously he is in a lot of pain. i am starting to realise what it's like to have 2 children.

dd has been a bit awkward too. she just WON'T sleep in her pushchair or her cot in the day. she managed to wriggle out of the pushchair - which i'm thinking of changing - and stands and screams in her cot. so it's out in the car again. been like this for at least a month except on monday. nightmare.

sorry kbaby. glad your op went well. can you tell the difference yet?

prufrock - has the yellow brick emerged?

egypt · 17/08/2005 19:11

why so knacked g?

GeorginaA · 17/08/2005 19:24

"has the yellow brick emerged?" - sounds painful

Don't know why I'm knackered really. It's been a busy few days. Ds1 has had a few wakings in the night again which has probably thrown us off our stride. Ds2 has been a bit whingy (teeth? MMR? just keeping mummy on her toes?) Am supposed to be making a cheesecake right now before the strawberries in the fridge turn to mush but having a motivation problem...

Prufrock · 17/08/2005 19:58

Nope - no yellow brick as yet. I will announce it's return. Go and make your cheesecake

Prufrock · 17/08/2005 20:00

And egypt - how do you tear a ligament whilst sleeping? Hope he feels better soon, and then gives you a break

egypt · 17/08/2005 20:10

precisely my question too. i keep trying to convince him that he must have made it weak through playing golf that day, and then turned over awkwardly in his sleep, but he won't have it. the doc even supported his argument by saying that nothing has caused it to happen, nothing was weak... you just got unlucky!

hmm

GeorginaA · 17/08/2005 20:25

Well there you go, it's obviously good for me not to get enough sleep

Hope he feels better soon, egypt.

(First stage of the cheesecake in the oven, btw).

SusiS · 18/08/2005 09:01

i always thought 'what's the fuss with all these crying mums dropping off their kids at nursery?' - now i know!!!! oh boy, was i in tears today! managed 3 min then i broke! seems like he's remembered where he was and was clinging on to me and crying bitterly! very tough - well, i finally managed to go outside and a minute later he was fine! one of the girls even came after me to tell me and to give me a hug - wow, didn't expect it to be like this! - but on the other hand it was lovely 'not having him around' yesterday afternoon iykwim - could just leave everything open without worrying him! guess i better go and enjoy the few hours now

Bozza · 18/08/2005 10:09

Susi - and would you believe it but I am having to hold back the tears because my DS is leaving nursery. He's been going since he was 15 weeks old so its been a big part of his life and so today feels like a huge milestone. Will probably be even worse when DD leaves.

Glad you all enjoyed the meet up. I will definitely try to get to the next one. Hope you are recovering well Kbaby/Twiglett.

DD decided to help me put the ironing away this morning. She put two pairs of DS's shorts and two t-shirts in the dirty laundry basket. Then she put one pair of DH's boxers, one pair of my knickers and one pair of DS's shorts in DS's underwear drawer. Then she got my nightie and proceded to wander around with it in front of her face playing peekaboo. She did all this while I was putting her huge pile of laundry away.

egypt · 18/08/2005 11:28

arent they cute when they just seem to know 'stuff', bozza. like 'things go in the washing machine', not necessarily toys...but

susi, i feel for you. i would find it hard too. but they do forget they miss you when you're gone.

what a nightmare of a night. dh woke me at 12ish (not that i was that asleep) to say that he was in agony and his back was getting worse. we phoned nhs direct and they suggested the hospital. so at 1am, we dragged poor dd out of bed to go to casualty. bless her heart. we were there until flipping 5am. poor little mite. she loved it mind, they had an empty children's play area. but my god, are we tired today? dh is now on diazepam. blimey. i have a zombie on my hands.

knackered.

Bozza · 18/08/2005 11:36

Oh poor Egypt you must be exhausted. Is there no-one you can call upon to have DD for a few hours?

DD is very much going through the putting things in places stage - but sounds like there was a bit of that going on at the meetup.
