Ok so a pretty boring thread title but thought we needed some distance from the last one!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi BB4 we do pullups/car pants in the car and at night but also when we are doing things like a large shop where I can't leave the trolley to dash to the loo. He's great and generally doesn't wee in the nappy (apart from at night)

He pooed in his shorts and it fell out onto the playroom floor which we all giggled at but he doesn't get the poos yet at all really. Ollie took nearly a year and a half so I'm not too worried.

Sorry to hear about the job but at least you know there were loads of people going for it which makes it much more difficult.

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 16/06/2010 21:43

Inzi - so glad your dad's op went well and he doesn't have to have a bypass. Sending him lots of good wishes for a speedy recovery.

FT - you must be rushed off your feet right now - how frustrating that your computer keeps losing posts. Hope you and dh and Alex are all well - can't wait for next week - at least we can have a proper catch-up then .

BB4 - sorry about the job but at least you'll have a better shot at it in October. Well done with Sofia potty-training - fingers crossed she gets the hang of it quickly. Anya is showing slightly more interest again after we were round at a friend's last week and Anya saw her ds using a potty. It's very sporadic though and she doesn't actually do anything while she's on it. Oh well, it'll come in time...

Muppet - glad you're feeling a bit more positive - I can't imagine what hard work it is with 3, especially if you're not getting much sleep. I'm sure you've been coping much better than you think - hugs to you anyway . Very annoying about the weddings - Wales and then Scotland on consecutive days is a bit much unless you can spread the travelling out a bit and spend a couple of days in Wales before-hand and a couple of days in Scotland as a long weekend - but not easy with dh working I guess. Well done on getting the garden finished - just in time for the lovely weather too!

We had a traumatic day on Monday - Anya had to go into hospital for half a day for blood tests for her growth hormone treatement. She had to have a canula (sp?) in her arm, which basically involved pinning her arm behind her back to keep it still - the textbook toddler reaction to that is to scream/thrash/panic, all of which she did - twice, because the needle fell out the first time. Then she had a drip for half an hour with a hormone stimulant, then 6 blood tests over 2 hours. Every time the nurse went near the canula she wailed, plus she had to be starved all morning until after midday. H was there too so she could choose whose knee she wanted to sit on while the other one went for a coffee etc. It was pot-luck that she was sitting on my knee when the fluid from the drip finally worked its way through her and she wee'd for England, so for half the morning I had soaking wet jeans. She's now got huge bruises on her arm and she's been very clingy with me since - but at least it's done and over with now.

muppetgirl · 17/06/2010 10:42

WWAJC - poor Anya and you I can't imagine how you were feeling, Ollie was terrified and I felt awful with just a simple blood test. Is this a regular thing?
(Sorry if been discussed I am way behind)

Thanks for what you said, it's great fun
with the boys but sometimes I do wish I'd get a night off. The days aren't so bad it's just that I don't quite trust I'll get a full nights sleep.

Busy weekend ahead, playhouse being built on sat -dh not doing it, the man who did the garden is doing it so it should be safe and built by sat afternoon! Then we have to take the floor up in the dinning room and playroom as we're having them painted -yipee! We still have holes in the dinning room walls from dh's last diy attempt -where he flooded the dinning room/hall and broke my laptop see, I told you he's crap! Then BBQ on sat for dh and my dad in the new garden and then decortating all next week. Can't wait as haven't done the playroom at all since we moved in so looking forward to a change.

BB4 you're in Toronto? I am over there 5th-10th Aug if it's possible to meet up for a coffee?

Love to all
x

FloriaTosca · 17/06/2010 13:49

WWAJC How traumatic for poor Anyaand for you too...will the treatment itself be similar?[hoping not emoticon]

Muppet; I'm always amazed you ever get time to post! It's lovely to finally get a garden isn't it? {envy]your trip to Canada! are you visiting your Db?

I have been trying to childproof ours before you all descend...it is mostly safe anyway but there is a set of stone steps so we have been fencing off the boarder and making a sort of gate...Dh is putting the BBQ halfway down them so the los cant get near (you'll understand when you see it). We have bought a party tent incase it is wet or for shade if it is hot...and we have fixed Alexs' playhouse (the veranda was a bit worn and not 100% safe) We have a bouncy castletype thing, a blow up pirateship full of balls, a jumpolene (blow up tampoline) and a wetset paddling/sliding/spraying pool if we are lucky enough to have a scorcher...any other ideas to keep the kids entertained?

BB4 have you got skype? We could all have a chat to you online when we meet up.

babyblue4 · 17/06/2010 16:45

FT So very of your BBQ!! Sounds like the DCs will have plenty to keep them busy and entertained! I have never used Skype, but my friend has, so she can show me how to use it. Just let me know when! Thanks so much for including me

Muppet Was in stitches over your poopy incident, as I had the exact same thing happen with Sofia! Would love to get together when you are in Toronto. I am still on mat leave, so there are very few time constraints.

WWAJC Poor Anya and you. Since I am relatively new here and clueless, you will have to explain to me why she needs these treatments? My DD1 who is 12 cant stand to have blood taken (for her yearly thyroid test), so I can imagine how Anya must be taking it. xxx

We ended up in hospital with Sofia last night. We had just picked up a climber for the yard (purchased for a steal on Ebay) for Sofia and Marco. We told her it was because she did such a good job potty training. Well, she was so excited, she went running up the stairs at bedtime, and slipped on the first step. She fell face first onto the second step and started wailing. I wa right there when it happened, and it didnt look too bad (stairs are carpeted). As soon as she opened her mouth, out gushed a bunch of blood. I freaked out! Turns out she had bitten her tongue and there was a huge flap hanging off (sorry TMI). DH said "Hospital time" as soon as he saw it! The doc later sent her hom without stitches, saying it would heal on its own. She needs to eat mushed up food for 3 days, and nothing salty. What a tough cookie though... barely cried and hasnt complained at all. Looks better this morning as the flap is not hanging open anymore. Its amazing how fast these children heal!

How is everyone else?? Love to all! xxx

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 18/06/2010 23:34

Muppet/FT - the blood tests were a one-off (thank goodness) - they had to get base-line measurements for her natural hormone production. The treatment itself is a daily injection with an epi-pen, similar to the ones diabetics use. We've been given dvd's that make it look very complicated but I'm sure it's not really - a nurse is coming to our house next month to get us started.

BB4 - sorry, forgot you wouldn't have known. Anya has achondroplasia, which is the most common form of dwarfism - short forearms and thighs, and a larger than average head being the most noticeable characteristics. Mostly it's not had any serious impact on her, we've had no additional complications or developmental delays, and she's tall for a dwarf. One of her consultants has agreed to try her on growth hormone treatment - it's not known whether it will improve her adult height as it's a genetic condition not a hormone deficiency, but some achon children have a growth spurt on it, so it's worth trying. Hence the blood tests etc...
at Sofia's injury - glad she is getting better so quickly, what a brave girl. How is she coping with mushed up food?

Muppet - playhouse sounds lovely - hope you have a fab weekend with that and the bbq.

FT - can't wait for next week and I'm sure the lo's will be greatly entertained, not to mention the oldies!

Have just got back from a lovely meal out with friends. Off to bed now zzz

FloriaTosca · 19/06/2010 10:08

ooohhhh poor Sophia BB4 I hope the mushed up food goes down well..what a very brave little girl! I can't claim credit for the skype idea it was muppets suggestion..I'll FB message you(for security)the date and we'll arrange a conventient time.
WWAJCGlad to hear you are getting out and socialising and having a good time. Even more glad to hear that the treatment is epi-pen like...it isn't that difficult(I had training when I had GD in case I couldnt control it with diet alone)

alex is being a dog today..keeps fetching toys with his mouth and eating out of a stainless steel pan, panting and licking me ...still, it means he comes when he is called for a change

NeedCoffee · 20/06/2010 07:54

Morning lovely ladies 

Muppet-Glad to have you ?back?! How?s the playhouse looking?

WWaJC-So glad the blood tests where a one off, hopefully the epipen will be easy to do and Anya will get used to it quickly.

Inzi-Hope your dad is much better, hope George calms down and lets you feel elegant and neat towards the end of your pregnancy! How many weeks now?

FT-Wow, that?s loads of stuff to keep them entertained, Rich took Shannon to Toys r us last week whilst I had taken DD1 to Alton Towers and bought her a ride on train thing, among other things but I?ve made him take it back (evil) as it was for up to the age 3 and I?m not having something that takes over my house when it is too small for her, needless to say, we are yet again on the hunt for one like Alex?s after I thought I?d got away with it gewtting her a battery operated bike and side car thing. Was it a Perego peg (or whatever it?s called) one? LMAO @ Alex playing dog and him coming when called

BB-Hope poor Sofia is coping okay with the mushed food, poor thing.

Choc-How?re you feeling? Glad the scan went well.

Hi to everyone else, LLL, Strawberry, Dal

News from here is that Dissertation, exams and assignments are all finished I had my last exam on Fri and as it is computer based the results are available straight away, I had one on Tue too, which I also passed. Kind of feel in limbo now, got so much to do but just don?t know where to start!
My turf has gone down for my back garden and trying t keep it watered, bought a sprinkler but can?t get it to do what I want and keep getting soaked! Also it keeps going through my fence so expecting disgruntled passers-by to be banging on the door to give me grief.
No news on the job for Rich, so obviously hasn?t got it. (kind of relieved!)

Looking forward to the next few months, going to try and get my downstairs decorated and having a shower put in, only a mixer tap shower but better than nothing! Got such a busy August planned, we?re going to Edinburgh at the beginning for a few days, just me, Rich, his bro and girlfriend to go water rafting and ?bugging?. It?s meant to be for 3 day?s but it?s looking like I may have to return early on train as no one will have Shannon on the Sat night. Then, me, Rich and the kids are travelling down South to different places stopping in different travelodges. The day after we get back, DD1 is booked on a summer camp thing for 5 days, which I?m kind of regretting now with her being so young and also with us being so busy. For the end of August I?m trying to arrange for us to go on the holiday that I won, as the other dates that we?re allowed don?t include school holidays, but if we do go, that means we have to either leave the night that dd1 gets back, or the day after...so looking forward to it, but it?s going to be hectic!

Going to Rich?s friends today near Dewsbury, I still haven?t seen their four month old baby yet, so should be a nice day.

Hope you all have a lovely father?s day

FloriaTosca · 20/06/2010 17:47

Happy Fathers Day to all our Dh/Dps. I hope you have been spoiling them rotten
...we are off out for dinner...I'll try to get back later

congratulations on the exam results NC. Well deserved!

muppetgirl · 20/06/2010 20:14

well done nc!!

Playhouse is fab and currently sporting a camo net

The garden has been a godsend and it's really saved my sanity.

Back soon, getting house ready for the decorator tomorrow...
x

babyblue4 · 21/06/2010 19:01

Muppet WOW! Sounds like a lot of work around your house! Make sure you post some pics of the end result! We put pot lights in this year, did a small project in the garden, and are waiting for the contractors we want to become available to do crown mouldings in the house. Hopefully that happens soon, since its a good 2 days of work.

Potty Training Seems to be going well. Sofia only has the occassional pee accident now, and will even tell me she has to go when she is busy playing. The only thing we have to work on is poo. She has gone several times in her undies (which is an improvement to her holding it for 3 days). Then yesterday, after pooing a bit in her undies, she finished the job on her potty!! We were so excited and made a really big deal over it. Hopefully now she wont be afraid to go. Its been hard though. I havent ventured out on my own yet with her. Yesterday when we went to see my Dad for Father's Day, Sofia got into my truck and peed all over the mats and the seat. Thank goodness for leather seats and rubber mats! Of course I had to go change and wash her, plus clean the car before we could go anywhere! Sigh...

Anyway... off to get some chores done. Hope everyone is well!

Hi Inzi! Wow 31 weeks, not long to go now Sorry to hear about your, am hoping he'll be back at home soon x

BB4 - We've lived in this house 5 years now and I've never really gelled with it. Before this house we lived in a 1 up 1 down cottage that was lovely and about 150 years old and before that was a falling down house that was about 250 years old. We've never been a new house couple but here you get much more house for your money and we needed more space at the time. (The 1 bedroom had been split in 2 and you couldn't get a single bed in Ollie's room so we knew we had to move!)

Since decoratating I've been feeling a bit better but I find it hard to bond with a house that has absolutely no character about it at all. It's just a series of boxes for rooms. By the end of the week we should have a dining room, a clean playroom and a downstairs loo I don't mind people using!

After this just flooring and then nothing till next year I think.

Inzi honey...it is lovely that you want to come to the BBQ but not worth fighting with your Dh over it..it would be daft to risk his job pulling a sickie over something so trivial...tell me to shut up if you wish but;I assume the train is not an option for you? [hopeful emoticon]However; as to your size issue....you are pregnant woman!!!!..you are supposed to get big [rolling eyes emoticon]...wait until you see me!..I bet I'm twice your size and have no excuse . Glad to hear your Dad is home again despite the set back...hopefully he will just keep getting better now after such a dreadful patch.

BB4 Well done with the potty training... ooops at the car incident.

got to go help Dh move the tumble dry[to a frazzl]er as I'm getting a new one that wont fry all our clothes tomorrow morning...woo hoo!!! laters

Hi Ladies

sorry but it's a quicky again as I have so much that I'm trying to get done before weekend and not sat down before 9.30 each night this week. Last day of college tommorrow

Inzi-I'm coming to Edinburgh the first weekend in Aug if you fancy a little meet up? Think I' mgoing to be shopping sightseeing on the Sat so could meet for a coffee but wont have the kids with methankfully! Rich is in Edinburgh this weekend too, It's a shame you can't swap bodies by cyber power or something!

RE Rich moving in, hmm, not moving forward with that just yet, some 'issues'. Will post more when I have time.

Muppet-hopefully the house will feel more characteristic for you, and you will bond more..personally, I like modern and clean, not very sentimental lol.

BB-Awww well done sofia on finishing poo in potty, she'll be completely dry in no time

FT-how can you possibly think about a dryer in this heat?! lol What time did you want us to start arriving? Is there anything I can do to help you be organised? Should I bring the girls swimwear too? Can't remember if you're having a paddling pool

alicet · 26/06/2010 21:37

Hi Alice

So sorry to hear about your friend, definately the right thing to be with her and her hubby

We had a lovely time at Floria's. There were no punch ups/fights/agruments and no-one (that I know of) was sick...
And the children behaved brilliantly

Can't wait for another meet up soon, remember we're in Swindon and always around if anyone wants to visit/meet up

love to all

babyblue4 · 28/06/2010 22:23

Glad to hear you ladies had a nice time at Floria's this weekend . I kind of figured the festivities had gotten out of hand when no one showed up on Skype . I waited for a bit, but had to get my own party going. My Dad's wedding celebration went very well (aside fom having a small disaster with the wedding cake). He and his Bride had a nice evening, which is all I hoped for. The weather wasnt very co-operative, so we moved the party inside, but other than that, it was great!

Potty training still ongoing. Sofia has mastered the peeing part. We are still having pooing accidents, but at least she is not holding it in anymore. Last night she was even dry through the night... so another break-through there!

Soooo tired.... may just have to take a nap for a bit. Its pretty hot and humid here, and its making me lazy! Not looking forward to going back to work, and definitely glad I wasnt there this past week with the G8/G20 summit going on in Toronto. I am sure you have seen the pics of the protests and police vehicles being set ablaze . Not nice.

Sigh.... will do proper post soon. Just too tired to look at the screen anymore!

Babyblue & Alice - sorry that you couldn't join us at Floria's as well. We missed you and all the other ladies that couldn't make it (and about the skype

babyblue4 · 29/06/2010 22:50

Inzi - Poor you! I understand completely how hard this is, having put down my cat last month. Hopefully your poor dog doesn't suffer. Lots of hugs to you and your family. I cant believe the run of bad news you have been having. Hopefully once your baby is born, you will only have good things in your life to occupy your time!
