Hi Ataraxis!!! >

Thanks ya'll for the words of wisdom regarding SIL as well as the encouraging words about pilates. The pilates thing I'm going to think on for the next few months. The SIL thing I'd like to figure out how to forget all together.

Steaky full report about the evening please.

Watching YOU'VE GOT MAIL while the girls play. House is tip and DH is bringing home McDonalds for dinner. I'm such a LOSER today. LOL!

CaptainCaveman · 18/01/2010 21:14

Hi ataraxis where ya been? OOH, wine you say, I'll have a tipple

cyteen how , hugs from Nottm to Leicester

hotpot well done on the M1, how far did you get? So, are we up for a meet up on 16th, 18th or 19th Feb? All welcome....

O is being a real pita to put to bed the last few days. Am afraid we haven't helped ourselves in that we cuddle him until he's asleep, but usually he drops off fairly quickly. Last few days/week or more, he has been fighting sleep, babbling, crying, flinging himself about and testing our patience. Dh and I take it in turns to put him to bed each night and we follow pretty much the same pattern of cuddling etc. Any suggestions from those of you who have dcs that self-settle? eg. how the feck did you do that?

ataraxis · 18/01/2010 21:14

Hmm I picked a good night didn't I?

steaky, where are you these days? Sounds like you must be very near us!

Hi everyone else - will try to come back again another night when someone else is around... and lonely.

CaptainCaveman · 18/01/2010 21:17

Hi TS

CaptainCaveman · 18/01/2010 21:18

come back ataraxis we're here!!!

ataraxis · 18/01/2010 21:20

YAY friends

cc L has on the whole been a brilliant sleeper, at least when she first goes down. So no real settling advice I'm afraid. If she wakes in the night we tend to cuddle her back to sleep. Do you have a bedtime routine? or have you tried keeping him up a bit later?

Mind you, DS2 (now nearly 5) is back downstairs having not gone to sleep, so really am in no position to give advice anyway!

HI TS, I don't believe you will stay seated for more than 10 mins before you burst into energetic doing something!

Hey sazz - thankfully they seem to have stopped... finally.

Can you remind me which days you are working? I am generally in Bristol Mon, Wed, Thurs.

CaptainCaveman · 18/01/2010 21:25

ataraxis yeah we have a routine for O, nothing about that has changed. Maybe a growth spurt or related to some other major developmental milestone

With you on the older child still being awake...ds1 is STILL awake despite being put to bed an hour and a half ago!

And now Sleepless in Seattle is on. Reese is eating Doritos straight from the bag. She sitting next to me on the sofa. I'm serious ladies I'm a complete LOAF this evening.

Captain, when Reese wakes I normally just hand her a pacey and go back to bed. That's typically the fix.

DH just pulled into the garage. FOOD!!!!!!!!!
Be back later.

cyteen · 18/01/2010 21:33

cece DS has gone from being a cheery self-settler to needing one of us in the room with him while he goes to sleep...we don't do anything but woe betide if we dare to leave the room before he's dropped off Last week he was especially flumpy and cot-wandering. No real reason that I could see. In the absence of any other evidence, I'm chalking it up to a growth spurt

Evening all

Welcome back ataraxis it's lovely to see you!

cyteen sweetie I am so sorry to hear that sad news hope you are OK.

No advice on the settling children as ours sleep / don't sleep by pot luck DD is encouraged to sleep by NEVER being allowed to nap in the day, and as she was awake on and off from 5am she was out like a light tonight . DS is still pretty much fed to sleep ...from a bottle

cece I made it from junction 39 to 46 so not amazingly impressive, although I did make it out of the slow lane I have started stalling it all the time though not sure what's up with my clutch control as I thought i had got the hang of it. May have to go for a drive round asda car park on Sunday evening.

Is it just me, the words 'asda car park' always make me think of the League of Gentlemen'

steaknife · 18/01/2010 21:39

Wotcha Atraxis

I am in Exmouth and loving it, despite being all about it before moving back. Tis brilliant!

cyteen so sad about your friend.

Cece DD self settles mostly. Somedays, like yesterday, with a bit of yelling but I just pop in and give her a little snuzzle and tell her it is time for sleep. She has only just got interested in the bear in her cot which she is very pleased to present to me every morning.
I used the "Teach yourself baby sleep" book, and controlled crying when she was 1. I was going from feeding/cuddling to sleep to self settling. I found it easier to leave her than to stay in the room with her when she was crying. I think it is probably more that whatever route you take you are consistent with it so the little one knows what to expect and what is expected of them.
Does O have a story? Maybe you could put him in the cot for the story? Izzy has 3 stories during which she drinks her milk then a quick cuddle and into bed.

Eek dinner burning...

hotterpotter · 18/01/2010 21:43

Ooh I knew there was smething I would forget to say - you go steaky Hope you have a fab time and come back and tell us all about it

Nice looking lamb too Sazz We had this heartbeat bear which plays womb noise but I'm not sure how effective it actually was. Used to drive DH demented when DD was a baby and still in our room so money not completely wasted [sorry DH]
