Beans 'Aussie man and a van' moved us twice once to the next suburb and once from London to Derby. We took very little furniture to Derby but still a long drive and it was under £400! They are really professional and fast. They don't have a minimum time either. Oh the Vitrivian I was booked in to do that in 2004 but a few months into training had a bit of a nasty snowboarding accident and I did a bad nasty to my shoulder. Several months after I got pregnant with lovely DS1 and well, it's a bit tricky to fit in the training these days.

Aubs forgot to say, the honeymoon period is over with DS1 & his fiancé, apparently she is getting a bit bossy. She tells him he has to play games with her at school but they are all girly games and he wants to play boys games. This phase of their relationship has clearly given him to impotus to improve his Dutch. He now knows how to say 'can I play with you?' so he can get in to play with the boys.

Rubena · 23/01/2010 08:16

Hi all, LOL at Beans not noticing the shoe/sock mix up I did either, and glad the iron man thing is resolved! We've moved 4 times in the last 4 years and each time we've seemed to have more stuff, and each time we've ended up doing it ourselves then after, said "next time we're definitely getting movers" But seriously, next time we're DEF getting movers!!
Sorry about your dh work situation Kayz

Decided to take the bull by the horns and went to the bloody hospital myself to talk about who will do what bloods... dh only had to go in for a few hours so thought what the heck. it was really straight forward "we'll do them here" & gave me a quick little appointment to discuss it all on the spot. Not sure if it had anything to do with dh standing there with ID on butSo all sorted to have it all taken care of with my scan next week

ds still refusing some meals - not sure why or whats going on, but will have breakfast always then either refuses lunch or refuses dinner and will only have his milk the only thing I can relate it to, is when he refuses a meal, he also hasn't done a poo in a long time (and by that I mean a few hours as he usually does one after each meal) I added some apricots to his porridge this morning and he destroyed his nappy before he even finished breakfast Maybe he's a little bunged up

Rubena · 23/01/2010 08:20

Aubi, sorry you're feeling guilty about the work thing. I can't really advise as I'm not "really" working at the moment but I can imagine how you feel. A friend of mine only puts her ds in nursery about once a week and usually when she's away for work (same job as me) but sometimes when she's home as well just to not mess up the routine, and the staff there said to her "he's so much happier when you are home and not off working which made her feel awful. I mean it's not as though his fatehr isn't home when she isn't!!! And it's only twice a month!

Kayzr · 23/01/2010 10:52

Just watched that Help For Haiti concert. It really puts everything into perspective. I have no right to moan about DH's job when we have a home, our children and each other.

KiwiPanda · 23/01/2010 11:07

Morning all. Hope you are all having a nice weekend relaxing with yoru copies of The Lady while wearing odd shoes...

DD finally better after an awful week - her temperature kept going back up over 40 every time the Calpol/Calprofen wore off and she spent the days dozing on my lap attached to my boob in the manner of newborn (except she didn't even do that as a newborn!). However antibiotics must have finally kicked in (after 2 hospital and 4 doctor trips) and her temp is now normal, though they really disagree with her so now she has the runs and is a bit whimpery so possibly a sore tummy. Will it never end?? I have 7 days worth of antibiotics for her, would it be really really really bad to stop after 6? I know the reasons for not stopping a course early but would 3 extra doses really make that much difference (she pleads)?? Or would that just be stupid? The doctors best guess is that it was a urine infection thingy, which is a bit of a worry for us as she had kidney failure at birth, but we have orur latest scans/blood tests etc for that on Tuesday (by coincidence) so at least we can talk to the specialist at the children's hospital about it all. And hopefully I can go back to work and her to nursery on Tuesday - my second week back at work involved me, well, not going to work...

Oh, can anyone think of any nice high calorie foods (other than my superb milk of course ) that I can tempt her with? She's eating a bit again but she's lost weight over the last week and she was tiny enough to start with. I think she'll be down somewhere on the 2nd centile line now

Rubena · 23/01/2010 13:35

kiwi glad she is feeling a bit better. I think you have to give the entire course of AB's even if she gets better.
Try mashing some avocado into her food, or give her a couple of yogurts or rice pudding etc?

MomOrMum · 23/01/2010 13:44

Kiwi - So glad she's feeling better. How scary. You know with our babies that if they're sleeping all the time, something must be wrong! Really hope it is a simple infection and her kidneys are okay.

In a rush, but just a plea to Veggie if you're about....what is the strength of the camamilia and pulsatilla (sp) that you use for teething? DS's molars are moving at a glacial pace - have literally been red and swollen for over a month now. If he has Calprofen he sleeps, but if he doesn't he doesn't. I feel like he has had way too many pain meds and need another solution!

Veggiemummy · 23/01/2010 19:01

Kiwi sorry you have to give them, the symptoms may be reduced but the infection may not be. If it isn't of course it can obviously grow again and reak more havoc but also as the course wasn't finished it can build up a resistance if it hadn't been completely killed off. Sorry I know I'm annoying.

Mom the doses are 200c each. I think the highest boots dose is 30c so if I used it I would just give him a whole bunch of them.

Auntie Flo is visiting and is being quite stubborn and annoying. My hormones are all over the shop, I'm quite tearful, and I asked DH lastnight if we could have another veggiebaby and he said definitely no so I'm a bit sad about that. Also DS1 is sick again and I just feel I'm not keeping him well I'm trying to feed him up on veggies etc but he is just not interested I think I might have go at making my own chicken stock and make him chicken noodle soup (or kipnoedolsoep! Check out my Dutch).
Anyway I kinda spat my dummy out tonight and had a big girly strope at them all, I don't know what's got into me but DH has gone and got some pizzas and we are having a junk food night. All the ladies feeling guilty about working I think being aSAHM I am giving myself no external outlet and I take it out on my family and make them sad so at least you aren't doing that, and they are happy to see you.

TheInvisibleHand · 23/01/2010 19:53

Kiwi - sorry you've had such a tough week, its frightening. And I sympathise with your kidney fears - DD was in kidney failure as a newborn, but the background worry wears off. As for high cal food - does she like avocado? DS loves it and it is extremely calorie rich. You can mash it with banana a la Annabel Karmel if you like, but my two are happy to munch it as it comes.

Veggie - a relaxed junk food evening sounds like a good plan. I'm sure your family do appreciate you and love having you around - you've done a fantastic job, especially with all the change in your life. I think all that any of us can do is the best we can in the circumstances we are dealt.

Veggiemummy · 23/01/2010 19:55

Oh and Kiwi add butter to everything and or cream if you can

Veggiemummy · 23/01/2010 20:18

Oops so good I needed to say it twice.

Your a wise women Invis, by the way where does your name come from?

Kayzr · 24/01/2010 11:22

Owwww!! Just been for a run. I am exhausted but I actually feel quite good about it.

Veggiemummy · 24/01/2010 15:23

Well done Kayz I was going to go for a run but have been completely organizing the house and have just started a chicken stock. I'm making some so I can make DS1 a few chicken noddle soups. I remember that being good for colds and building you up when I was a kid. I bought I big free range chook cut all the meat off pulled the skin off and chucked the bones and skin in with some veggies. How good is that for a vegetarian. Move over Delia.

Kayz let's not talk about the game huh.

Aubergines · 24/01/2010 16:52

Well done Kayz. It's obviousLy the weekend fir it as I started 'Couch to 5k' and actually quite enjoyed it. It felt good to actually feel by body working.

Talking of running and bodies working can I ask a way TMI question? How are you girls finding your pelvic floors nowadays? After DD1's pregnancy and birth I was ok I think. After DD2 it has been a teeny tiny bit weaker than is ideal. I am not talking about wetting myself but if I am running I don't feel 100% confident and I end up obsessivly visiting the loo every 15 mins. It's a bit depressing at 31 and I can't remember if I have asked you guys about it before. I do keegal exercises but not everyday as I forget. It puts me off the idea of a third pregnancy tbh as I heard it's pregnancy not childbirth that does the damage. ESP pregnancy with huge babies like mine. Is that true I wonder? Are you c-section ladies still feeling strong? Hmmm. I doubt you are all going to want to share on this one but I can hardly ask real life friends can I?!

Veggiemummy · 24/01/2010 17:15

Aubs I had more trouble after DS1 and I think that is because I got back into running 6 weeks post. This time I've done lots more yoga & pilates than running and I think that has helped. Also I do keegals as much as possible. My last MW suggested putting those little spot stickers around the house, or on different possesions. Whenever you see one it's a reminder to do your keegals. I remember learning about keegals at uni, there were three indications for doing them, prevention of urinary incontinence, increased pelvic tone during pregnancy and getting a tighter grip on your man. That is exactly what it said in my nursing textbook.

Veggiemummy · 24/01/2010 17:28

Oh and I ran a lot more during first pregnancy than second...ok that's a little misleading makes it sound like I may have actually ran a little during DS2's pregnancy just not as much as with DS1. Truth is I didn't run at all, but did do Tara yoga DVD and the Erin workout one. Both had little reminders for keegals so maybe that helped.

daisydora · 24/01/2010 17:44

aub my pelvic floor is a bit 'weak' not massively so but occassionaly in a fit of the giggles a little may trickle. Not that I laugh much at the mo! TBH I have never done my pelvic floor exercises. I guess 2 c-sections means it hasn't quite had as much trauma as some of you ladies.

Things with DH visting MIL have improved slightly. Basically i have just told DH to go and visit, and not ask. The trouble is she is barely awake, so there is no 'quality' to any visit and I think perhaps FIL doesn't really want any of them to see her like this, and is why he is telling DH to stay awake. I would say that DHis perhaps the more sensitive of them all. So so sad

daisydora · 24/01/2010 17:46

that would be stay 'away'....right I must go and bath the DC's.......

Aubergines · 24/01/2010 18:12

Thanks for sharing Veggie and Daisy. I should clarify that it's when running that I visit the loo every 15 mins, not all the time. During the average day I never worry, maybe if I am going to sneeze I conciously clench my floor but that's it. Running seems the main problem.

Daisy - I am glad the visiting arrangements have got a bit better. How sad that she has deteriorated so quickly that she is rarely concious. Cancer is such a cruel disease.

sybilfaulty · 24/01/2010 19:15

Aubs - 3 sections here and I'm afraid there is still splashdown. Usually only when I am coughing, sneezing etc but it's definitely not what it once was. Has anyone tried those cones? I think something like that might be what's required to sort out the problem with a minimum of effort.

Daisy, sorry things are so hard. Am thinking of you.

Veg, I know what you mean about having hormones all over the place. I think DS might be losing interest in the boob and I'm gutted. Hope it's just a blip, but I feel quite bonkers about it. You have had a lot of upheaval over the last few months, and yet your cheerfulness and positive attitude shine through. YOu are an inspiration. Your soup sounds good as well. I love making stock.

Loved reading about the odd shoes, The Lady and People's Friend. Reminds me of my great aunt, who saved awful mags for my visit so I could take them home and read them. What a 17 year old wanted with knitting patterns and borax I don't know.

It's been a quiet weekend here, which has been lovely. Just got shoes to clean, labels to sew and school bags to sort before tomorrow. I am really anti my job at the moment. I know I am lucky to have it, esp as it's only 1 day a week, but it doesn't half get in the way of the rest of my life . It'll be nice to see everyone tomorrow though. My poor friend who lost her baby is due back tomorrow. I'll try to pop in and see how she is.

Have a nice evening everyone.

Kayzr · 24/01/2010 22:13

I've got a feeling I'm in for the long haul tonight. DS2 is coughing quite badly again. This cough just doesn't seem to want to go. So going to get him in to see the GP and hope they can do something. His chest sounds a bit rattley.

Rubena · 24/01/2010 22:33

1 section and thankfully no change at all to pre-baby. I have a bladder the size of a pea though, but I always have - preg or not, however fortunately it doesn't leak though! I'll get back to you after section 2. Syb, lol at splashdown! By God you make me laugh! What on earth is a cone???? Aubi, I have a problem running - but not due to any kind of splashdown!!! (just lazyness) Hehehe can we please have splashdown in the next thread title?? That's up there with tits end!!
Went to curry tonight. ds obsessed with poppadoms. Must have eaten 2 to himself
Awful cold here... all congested and can't take drugs off to bed now.

Veggiemummy · 25/01/2010 08:08

I second the splashdown in next title, still enjoying tits end though.

Rubs is your scan tomorrow? Very auspicious if it is!

Syb my nanna used to buy Women Weekly and her neighbour Mrs Dickerson (Dicko) would by New Idea, both Australian institutions. They would swap then once fully read would save them for when I visited. I loved sitting in nan's livingroom with a nana made cuppa and scones and read them cover to cover. I would never have told my friends at uni that I read them. I loved the letters section the most.

My friend who had her little boy when we were here on holidays is coming over to visit us. I'm so excited she is one of my best and oldest friends. We are gonna do some cycling, coffee, nice walks, coffee, museum and gallery visits oh and coffee.

Veggiemummy · 25/01/2010 08:12

Oh and Kayz sorry for the cough DS1 has had a nasty cough which has finally settled down, how is the damp in the house going. Hey I had a dream about you lastnight. You and I worked together and used to iceskate to work. We were running late one day and Aub's sent her nanny to pick up the boys from school for us.
