blotted i hope you got a rest of sorts after everyone went home.. although lovely to see everyone it's amazingly tiring having visitors! our ds took his time with sitting and crawling but not with teeth.. he got them v early. G on the other hand has only 2 teeth but is scarily fast at crawling now.. and today when i was clearing our lunch away DS was giggling on the sofa behind me.. i turned round to see G kneeling up against the sofa slapping the cushions to make ds laugh! OMG i think cruising around the furniture will be happening soon and i can't believe it i don't think i'm ready to see her so grown up walking around... ds was closer to 14 months before he started to walk properly..

FiByTheIcySea · 16/01/2010 20:52

hiya momino how was your night last night in the end?

essenceofSES · 16/01/2010 21:16

Hello!

Fi - LOL at G making your DS laugh V cute!

Momino - what a poorly househould you have Hope your theory about tonight's sleep works and you get some decent shut-eye

Febes - hope you enjoy your neighbour's birthday celebrations

Blotted - hope you feel better soon

Dandy - @ baby disco

Well we went to look at some cocker spaniel puppies today and came back with one! She's nearly 13wks old and we've called her Megan. Photos on FB. Lucy seems excited at the prospect of company but also is making it clear that this is her territory and we are her owners! They'll settle down soon.
She's v cute and already coming when we call her but no attempt has been made with toilet training yet

pulapula · 16/01/2010 21:42

Ses- I saw your FB photos- how adorable! Shame about the toilet training (or lack of it)

Momino- hope you get a better night's sleep tonight and that your DDs get better soon. Do you think it could be flu (swine or otherwise)?

Fi how cute that G was making DS laugh- we get some laughing the other way round (mostly due to peekaboo games).

blotted- S only has 2 teeth (as of last month) and is trying to crawl but getting frustrated. My DS1 never crawled- he moved around upright on his knees . DD crawled at 8mo and walked at 10mo and i am in no rush for S to walk.

belgina · 16/01/2010 21:48

Evening all,

Long time since we last "saw" you

Hope you're feeling better soon. Have seen your plight on f/b. C has got teeth, but she's also a baby of the stationary kind. She just sits, no rocking on hands and knees, no rolling, pulling up, let alone cruising. Long may it last too. It makes my life nice and easy at the moment

Would also like to join the baby disco

fi how sweet about G making DS laugh. Sounds like they're quite close

momi Hope the bug leaves your house soon and that things settle down

ses Great news about the puppy. I hope she will have a good night. It will be like having 2 babies in the house for a little while. I remember our dog used to 'cry' during his first few nights with us as a puppy.

Well I'm at my parents' now for our anual big family gathering tomorrow. I haven't been there in years, probably not since ds was a baby and some of my aunts, uncles and cousins I haven't seen since my wedding in 08. I'll also get to meet all the newest additions to the family too, so looking forward to it.

flippineckitsnearlychristmas · 16/01/2010 21:48

Evening all!

Sorry, rubbish at keeping up so no namechecking please, if you you don't mind?

Sleep is really bad atm, A is going through a phas of sleeping in the cot for a couple of hours, but then after that will only sleep if I'm holding her. Aaargh! I am so tired it's unbelievable. I can sleep while I'm holding her, but I have to sit up and don't sleep very well. On the plus side, DD1 has slept until nearly 7 most days this week, and DH let me have a lie in this morning while he got up with the girls.

We went to see about mortgages today, we're going to try to move at some point this year. Eek.

Right, off to try and catch up a bit with all your news.

belgina · 16/01/2010 21:52

x-post pula Your dd is like my dd1, she was also a quick walker.

Nearly bedtime now I think. Will read a little and then give C her dream feed. It's nearly 11 here, but I want to try and stick to our normal British schedule, IYKWIM.

belgina · 16/01/2010 21:56

x-post with flippin now too. Your sleep story sounds fairly familiar, except that we sleep cuddling while lying, so that's OK. She often cups my face in her little hands when she joins me, which is really sweet in a way. I think it's all linked with the whole separation anxiety thing, but luckily it is getting better with us this week. She's joining me later than she has been, so hopefully soon she'll be back to her old self [cautiously hopeful emoticon]

flippineckitsnearlychristmas · 16/01/2010 21:59

was going to catch up, but A has just woken up and is howling! DH has gone up to her but I think boobs are required.

Momino · 16/01/2010 22:36

ses, Megan is gorgeous! congrats on your new addition.

pula my DDs are similar in development to yours: dd1 never crawled, straight to walking; dd2 crawled early and walked by 11 mos and whoknows what dd3/H will do. about flu, I suspected it but temp isn't too high at the moment and girls seem to be getting better. I think it may be just a bad cold along with teething and other bug/s being passed round from nursery and preschool.

belgina, have a good family weekend.

Hi flippin. hope you get some sleep.

Fi, last night's sleep was rubbish. but because it was so rubbish dd1&2 are so tired they are sleeping like logs right now whereas last night, they'd been up 10x by now.

so, night's started out better than last, I can hope it continues... and .

night all.

llareggub · 16/01/2010 22:55

flip we are in the same boat. G will only sleep with me so I have given into it and he sleeps really well between midnight and 9ish if I let him.

I have his old crib pushed up against the bed so it acts as a barrier. I tuck the quilt underneath me so it can't fall onto him and put my arm around the top of his head so he has contact with me. I half lie on my back/side so that he has access to feed if he wants, and he often does. As a result I get lots of sleep, he is happy and everyone else is happy. We'll cross the getting him out of our bed bridge when we come to it! This morning he woke me up by gently nuzzling my forehead; it was very cute until he headbutted me!

Hello to everyone else: Dandy and Blotted good to see you back.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 17/01/2010 10:52

blotted and dandy

I hope you're feeling a little better Blotted, I do follow you on FB, as I love your blog, and I was worried about you. Loved the bird alarm clock video

momi I hope you and the girls are better today, you deserve a rest and a half I reckon. Did you enjoy 'Best in Show', I love that film (the guy's done a couple of excellent films - he's one of the guys from Spinal Tap ).

jael I was sorry to see your FB status, I'm sorry about your family troubles. However, you always strike me as devoted to your kids, so I think you'll be fine and your DCs are lucky to have you as their mum . But dn't leave your kids with your mum, her history sounds too dodgy for that.

Must go and pick out some outfits for the baby disco. Is there a theme

morning grumpy

llare nuzzling your forehead awww such a cute picture!
over xmas we made progress with ds accepting G.. they are getting close.. G has always loved ds but up until xmas he was still saying 'me no like G'. Now he's enjoying her company esp crawling around and playing chase me. when i was in the bath yesterday with DS & G in the room with me.. G bumped her head on her toys & started to cry.. i was about to leap out of the bath when DS gave her a kiss and cuddle and she was all happy again
Loobylou36 · 17/01/2010 16:16

afternoon all

Well DH and I went out to a 40th Birthday party last night so M stayed at my nieces house from 6.30 - 11.30pm. She didn't sleep at all just played and sat on the sofa with them - giggling when anyone got up and generally having a fun time by the sounds of it

We had a great time too there was a live band who were great - I even managed to get DH up to dance a couple of times (unheard of!).

We're all snotty and sneezy again tho and M's cough has gone to her chest may have another trip to the docs tomorrow

ROFL at baby disco - will have to get A practising her moves! Dandy and blotted - lovely to see you.

Shocking night last night again. The problem is me sleeping sitting up, my back is killing and my sciatica is back with bells on. I do have one of those big V cushions, but it's not good at all.

llaregub - thanks for your story. I'd love to give proper co-sleeping a go, I'm not anti it at all, but DH isn't very keen. We'd have to get a bed guard as there's no space either side of our bed for the cot (it's currently close to our bed, but I can't get it any closer). I'm not very good at feeding lying down either, but I could work on it. Anyway, maybe I should try it properly, it certainly couldn't be much worse than it is now. What do you do with G if he goes to bed earlier than you? A is crawling all over the place and moves quite a lot in her sleep, so that puts me off a bit.

Anyway, I think a lot of this weeks upheaval is probably teeth - she's been as miserable as sin this weekend, clingy, grumpy etc etc and her mouth is sensitive.

She's definitely trying to cruise now! Very slowly, but she can move along the sofa.

DD1 has got over her grumpiness with DH, which is making life much easier. We had a nice time this afternoon making fairy cakes - she chose the icing and decorations so they are covered in yucky green icing and covered in pink sprinkles!!!

still haven't changed my name...

Momino · 17/01/2010 21:20

Saturday Night Fever Toddler Disco, hahaha !

Also an 'Airplane!' film fan, I can't help but be reminded of the scene where Ted Stryker does slavic-style squat knee kicks in his tight white SNF inspired suit...

essenceofSES · 17/01/2010 21:22

Loving the outfit suggestions!

Un fortunately DS already has a mini 70s outfit or two courtesy of my mum who triede to thrust a bin bag of boys clothes that had belonged to my younger brother (born 1979) on me. Some lovely blue and brown velour all-in-ones Didn't have the ehart to give them all back to her so there's one or two in the wardrobe that DS has never worn

Looby - glad you and DH had a good evening last night.

Belgina - hope you are enjoying your family gathering

Momi - hope you're all feeling better today

Thanks for lovely comments on our new puppy. Training has started and progressing v slowly but she is a lovely playful little thing.

We had a lovely afternoon with friends and exchanged belated Christmas presents. DS got a great little shape sorter and a noisy book

Now sitting munching Pringles and watching Wild at Heart.

Hope everyone else has had good days.

essenceofSES · 17/01/2010 21:27

x-posted....

Flippin - we've also done our fair share of co-sleeping. Sometimes whole nights, sometimes part of the night. From about 18 weeks, O went to bed in his cot at about 7.30pm and then when he woke up at about 10/11pm, I'd bring him into bed and he'd latch on and we'd both drift off to sleep. Lately he doesn't necessarily come into bed every night but will if I'm particularly tired or he takes a long time to resettle.
In the early months, DH would sleep in the spare room. Now he'll stay in bed with us if it's just for a couple of hours.

I never thought I'd want to co-sleep but it has actually worked really well for us.

llareggub · 17/01/2010 21:29

Enjoying the 70s chat!

flip I do put G to bed in his cot where he sleeps for an hour at a time before needing to be settled. Tonight he hasn't managed more than half an hour at a time. It is a real pain! We usually lose patience at around 11pm and head to bed when he comes in with us. If he doesn't wake up then I leave him there. I am hoping that when he finally gets teeth he might be more settled.
