OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Spangle poor H. My G (and DD2) had something similar over the last month, so I think there's something going around. For them, it lasted 3 days of not eating anything and not drinking very much. I was given advice to keep on trying solids, but they refused food point blank. Keep on offering water, but try to give him sips rather than lots at once, as that often bounces straight out again. Hope he is better soon.x

FiByTheIcySea · 24/01/2010 15:44

poor H spangle hope he manages to keep some fluids in today

llareggub · 24/01/2010 16:18

Just a quick message as I need to get back into the kitchen to start on dinner. We nipped into town this afternoon and I tried on a few things in Next, including a size 12! I really cannot remember ever ever being a size 12. Was very excited but unfortunately the top was sleeveless so looked crap because of my upper arms.

spangle hope is feeling a little better.

HtheH · 24/01/2010 16:37

Spangle poor H. lots of cuddles and sleep needed.
I sympathise with all of you with waking babies. M has been up lots the last few nights because of cough and teething, which is so unlike him, he has always been such an amazing sleeper. It is a bit of a shock to the system!!! I hope it doesn't put him into a different sleep pattern, I am tired...

I am amazed at how much all your babies eat. M wouldn't be able to handle a raw piece of pear, he would choke on it. Everything still very much pureed here, he will eat a rice cake himself and suck on bits of bread but a sandwich is beyond him. There is also not a lot that he can have in his sandwich because of his allergies! What am I doing wrong? How do I get him eating more solid food? Obviously he can't have bits of cheese etc. Would love a nice chubby baby!

Ses Think it was you who said you have bought those vests, you won't be disappointed I love them. llare well done on the size 12. I was a size 12 before I got pregnant and am nowhere near fitting into my old clothes. Still wearing 16s. All a bit depressing, maybe I shouldn't eat so much!! Have spent all day cooking up M's food for the freezer, and managed to make some of Nigella's brownies too - yum. But not the way to lose weight I think!

Long post, sorry, better go off and do M's tea and find those brownies before dh eats them all...

belgina · 24/01/2010 16:59

HtH The reason why some of our babies are eating finger foods is that some of us are doing baby led weaning (blw), basically you skip the pureed food and go straight to finger foods. It is quite amazing what babies can eat. I didn't do it with my other 2 and so was surprised that C has been eating proper chicken and sausages and everything (she's a bit of a carboholic carnivore). Babies' gag reflex is situated much further forward onto the tongue than with adults, so gagging doesn't mean choking. C gags at nearly every mealtime, but the food always drops out nicely. It's a bit scary at first, but I'm used to it now. All my los were eating finger foods by now (the other 2 were weaned the traditional pureed way). Have a go and just keep an eye on him, but panic when he gags. I bet he'd love to suck on a juicy chunk of soft pear (it needst be be quite large, large enough for a decent bit to stick out when he's got it in his hand) or breadstick. I give C sandwiches, but obviously they fall apart and she just eats the individual bits IYKWIM. There must be some things you can put on M's sandwiches. How about a tuna sandwich, a banana sandwich (mashed up banana), humous, ham, jam,...

llare How exciting about your weightloss! You must be so proud. You deserve a treat, that's for sure!

spangle Sending some healing vibes over to you for H. Keep up with the fluids. As long as he keeps them in he'll be Ok soon.

tumm Sounds like you had a great time in Wales. Thanks for the chicken suggestion. I'll try that one next. I'm going to do chicken stroganoff. Mushroom stroganoff is DH's favourite, so the chicken version should go down well. The dcs wont appreciate it though.

Right. Time to unload my shopping from the car.

belgina · 24/01/2010 17:00

Lol, I meant to say dont't panic when he gags, HTH!

SpangleMaker · 24/01/2010 18:44

HtheH My H is ever so slightly dairy intolerant (goes all blotchy around his mouth). The HV said to keep offering it to him every now and again, which I do, but he refuses pretty much everything dairy-based, including cheese, fromage frais (will have 2-3 spoonfuls max), breakfast cereal/porridge with milk. It's breakfast I find the hardest - he seems to alternate between fruit (whole or pureed) and toast. Best to speak to your HV about calcium intake. I plan to speak to mine this week. I don't think it's too bad at the moment while they're still having plenty of milk but will become more of an issue as time goes on.

Re gagging/choking H scared me for the first time yesterday. I was thought he was just gagging but he went all silent and bright red in the face so I gave him a few firm slaps on the back until he started coughing and crying. Gave him a bit of a cuddle and he carried on with his meal as if nothing had happened. Think I gave him a bit of a scare too though!

H had a bf about an hour and a half ago and I'm keeping my fingers crossed it stays put!

FiByTheIcySea · 24/01/2010 19:15

size 12 llare whoohoo, what about wearing a shrug with it?

HtheH we're doing a combo of lumpy purees (started with smooth) and finger foods.. the latest things i've made are turkey bolognaise (with loads of carrots, some caramelised fried onion, herbs and garlic all blitzed up) with finely chopped spaghetti, cheesy tomato pasta (which no good for you i know.. but you could substitute with lentils?) and G loves my rice pudding and custard.. again you'd need to modify the recipes. have you tried cooking with rice milk or oat milk as an alternative to soy/cows milk.. the rice pudding would esp work and be a full fat version, i can modify my recipe for you if you fancy trying it? i'll put my thinking cap on for others.. i had to avoid dairy when i had endometriosis in 2001 (gave me awful diarrhoea). bread G always has as toast soldiers so far. she loved the toad in the hole batter at lunch.. great big chunks to suck, teeth and gum more came back out of her mouth than got swallowed but she was really enjoying it
pulapancake · 24/01/2010 19:20

spangle- let's hope H is on the mend.

S has had a tummy bug too i think. He was sick 4 times yesterday - food or milk would just come straight back up. He had a bit of a temp too and loose nappies . He brought his bedtime milk up, so we decided little and often was required when he woke in the night so he fed at midnight, 2am, 4.45am, and 6.30am (yawn). But he kept it all down, and he has had little meals, a bit of water, and small milk feeds today and not been sick again .

Re gagging- S gags a lot, but whatever he's gagging on comes out, so i try not to panic. I am a lot more relaxed than with DD and DS1 and I give him more finger food than i did with them at this stage.

FiByTheIcySea · 24/01/2010 19:21

spangle just seen your post.. keeping my fingers everything crossed x

FiByTheIcySea · 24/01/2010 19:30

x posts pula i too am more relaxed with letting G have finger foods than i was with DS.. the odd gag here and there gives me a panic but i'm coping better watching G gag and spit out on the whole. poor S hopefully he's over the worst now x.

llareggub · 24/01/2010 20:03

HtheH, DS1 had puree for much longer than DS2. I really haven't got the patience or time to puree so DS2 has what we have, including things I would never have given his brother at the same age! He had a chocolate-filled brioche earlier which he loved

Having said that, we do eat a lot of home-made soup and the boys have a croissant or a baguette with them. When we have pasta we have penne because it is easier for him to hold. He also loves little strips of ham, chicken and lamb. Like others, he loves hummus and breadsticks.

FiByTheIcySea · 24/01/2010 21:06

lol

essenceofSES · 24/01/2010 21:07

Just about to settle down to watch the new season of 24

weaning - we always have penne too for that exact same reason and we also get sandwiches eaten in separate bits!

HtheH - I don't think I've ever looked forward to new vests so much
Don't worry about M having purees too much. Out of the 6 babies in my NCT group, we are all doing slightly different things for weaning and all the babies are doing well.

Spangle - poor H. Hope his latest feed stays down.

Llare - that's great about being a size 12. I'm back at pre-pg weight but still about 1.5st overweight and I don't fit (just) into all my pre-pg clothes because of my belly. (That may change once my HtheH recommended vests arrive!)

Periods - I still haven't got mine back but keep getting cramps and PMT feelings. This morning I woke up feeling v uncomfortable and teary. O's really dropping his milk feeds now so I guess AF will arrive any day.

Had a chat to DH today. The rational unheated type Come to the realisation that he really sees men and women fitting into the traditional roles. The garden and house maintenance being his domain and looking after O, cooking and housework being my domain. Tongue in cheek, I said that was fine if he was going to stick to being a male chauvinist and forbid me to go back to work! I think he got the message as he's helped cook tonight's roast and done a load of ironing as well as doing some great work out in the garden.
I now feel as if I really shouldn't complain...

flippinegg · 24/01/2010 21:21

Just a quick pop in tonight, I'm listening out for DD1. She's been fine all day, went to bed as normal, then woke up about an hour ago, called for DH (now her favourite person in the whole world!) and when he got to her room she threw up everywhere, poor thing. She seems ok, she was just really dozy, and was very quiet while we washed her and changed her bed. Hope she's not sick again.

Can I grumble about DH too? He is great a lot of the time, and he does a lot round the house and with the girls. But he's ill now, only a little bit, but he sighs all the time, while he's doing stuff, just in case that he's ill but still helping. What does he want, a flippin medal?!

spangle - hope H is better soon, poor little thing.

llareggub - yay to a size 12! How exciting. I'm still about a stone heavier than pre-pregnancy and I hate it.

Re food - DD1 and A were/are both BLWed. We have fusili (spiral) pasta because it's easy to hold, although this evening we had spaghetti which A thought was great fun!

Sorry, I've got to , and [bbiscuit]!

FiByTheIcySea · 24/01/2010 21:43

flippin a medal?! yes he prob would if my dh is anything to go by when sorta ill sorry your dd1 is poorly too.
ses lol at the male chauvinist & forbidding you to go back to work.

flippinegg · 24/01/2010 21:43

why didn't my [bbiscuit] work?

FiByTheIcySea · 24/01/2010 21:51

looks like there's no burns biscuit that would have been funny

belgina · 24/01/2010 22:24

testing [bbiscuit] Loving the new smilies!

We also have fusilli pasty. The spirals are less slippy and easier to hold for C. Today we had rice, which C found quite interesting. Not sure how much went in though . I suppose some must have because she didn't seem overly hungry at bedtime. In fact I think the BLW is starting to work a lot better recently. She's definitely BF less, skipping the lunchtime feed. So that's still a mid morning and mid afternoon one.

Just done a load of ironing. Fun fun fun. We're watching James Bond now, but I'm thinking about just going to bed now, rather than watching the end. I'm very very tired.

Night night all

belgina · 24/01/2010 22:24

Yep, the burns biscuit definitely doesn't work. I think this needs reporting to MN towers!

muddleddaizy · 25/01/2010 08:24

Morning,

Haven't been around for awhile. I manage to read but not post. I've also had a couple of 'down' days recently.

Running I can understand why you feel blue. I think the thinking about work is worse than just starting back and getting on with it! I will do 7 5hr shifts over a fortnight and I'll be lucky if I get a 10min comfort break in the middle

Re DH mine can't multi task either! He used to ask me to take ds2 so he could get out of the chair! How did he think I did it?!?! He is ds1's fav person too. Spring/Momi he gets all the good bits and I just seem to shout

Pula glad your return to work went well. Hope S is better today.

Llare congrats on the weight loss.

Reebee In my old job I used to commute to work and stay overnight. In one way I hated it being away from ds1 on the other hand I got to go out and do me stuff for 2 days I managed to keep breastfeeding too!

Fi Hope you had a better night last night. Have you heard anything re your flat? Any chance we can do the south-west soon?!

Belgina hope things are better with your dh

Flippin & Spangle hope your dc are better today.

DS2 has a mixture of puree and finger food. He has quite a healthy appetite. Ds1 has started to get fussy. I ended up pureeing my bolagnaise sauce the other day and ds1 ate more of that on his pasta than he normally does!

Ds2 is standing up loads, not got round to moving yet. Sleeping is appalling. Proud mummy alert singing row, row, row your boat and ds2 screams in the right place when you sing the crocodile verse

I was going to try and name check everyone, but it'll take people most of the morning to read my post. Hi to Grumpy, Looby HtheH, febes Tummum and Dandy. Apologies to all I've not mentioned!

FiByTheIcySea · 25/01/2010 08:26

poo! lost my post.. the short version is.. had early night.. better wake up time with DS.. G slept through.. feeling almost refreshed! almost

FiByTheIcySea · 25/01/2010 08:31

hiya muddled yes please to meet up.. def work one out.. will boot laptop up when back from pre school run.

Loobylou36 · 25/01/2010 09:30

morning

have sort of caught up with the thread

llare size 12! well done v.

re: weaning. M started on purees now its mushed stuff but she does love feeding herself to - half bananas, toast fingers, pasta spirals. She even ate a whole malted milk biscuit at my nieces the other day .

Still no sign of teeth despite months of dribble, red cheeks, occasional sore bum

ses know what you mean about DH. My DH manages a lie in most weekends and its a big chore for him to look after M for a couple of hours.

DH still about lack of action in bedroom.

Loobylou36 · 25/01/2010 09:31

spangle how is H today?
