You definitely did used to get smear tests as soon as sexually active. We must be of a similiar age ctfn. I was booked for one when I went on the pill (omg 20yrs ago). When I had dd1 I had to have one 3 months after birth. It came back inconclusive and I had to have it redone by gp as cervix was "too deep" .

Off to look for vagina thread...

MissMarjoribanks · 24/03/2010 21:47

Jardins - I'm bfing and since my lochia dried up finally after 11 weeks , I've not restarted my periods. My mum told me that hers didn't return until she stopped breastfeeding both my sister and I, 10mo and 7mo respectively. The problem is, they could start, and you would be fertile before the first one, so effectively you don't know when you could be fertile. Its unlikely that you would be so early on though.

I've been a bit lax on remembering to take my pills so hoping that the bfing is an effective contraceptive too.

CTFN - that is some story about your smears. Good for you to take matters into your own hands.

I had my first smear at 20 as I was sexually active, which was the earliest they would offer it then. I've had first stage abnormalities and yearly smears too, but back on 3 yearly now.

I can't bring myself to watch One Born Every Minute - it's all too raw. I'm particularly glad I missed the one on prem babies, I would have absolutely cried buckets. Some of the babies I saw in SCBU were so small and fragile and had gone through so much in their short lives.

Not a day goes past when I don't think of how lucky I am with the positive outcome we had with Thomas. It could have all been so horribly different. He's done fantastically well and is already catching up developmentally. I don't even get any 'aw he's so tiny' comments anymore when I get asked how old he is. The answer to which is now a staggering 16 weeks. Where has the time gone? I'm actually starting to get equipment in for weaning, though I won't start till 6 months (prem babies are weaned at their actual age, as their digestive system starts up on day 1, iyswim).

Snap albiesmummy: I had a miscarriage one month before conceiving my DD. Actually it was exactly one year ago today - how odd!

Hi all for those of you interested, the ohhh my vagine thread, is in topics then show all and under the heading fun and games it is then in chat.

Sorry if you don't find it funny it may just be my warped sense of humour.

The Vadge Monologues are here

sockmonkey · 25/03/2010 09:25

DD has her first lot of jabs today ::wibble::
We will be going on the bus, so will have her in the sling, just hope they can reach her leg without taking her out (and that we don't loose a sock on the way). It will be tight getting back in time to pick up boys from school, but at least it seems pretty dry out today.

She has for the last 2 nights done a nice 6 hour stretch of sleep (11-5) What's the betting that will all stop after today?

somewhathorrified · 25/03/2010 10:28

Oh dear, trying to find the time to get on here is nearly impossible when DH is working.

Second 'Oh dear' from getting on the scales so I can join the weight loss group...11st 6lb at 5'4" that's 2st more than prepreg weight. I am in non preg jeans as 2 yrs ago I weighed this amount, lost all the weight got to a very comfy size 10 (for about 1yr) then got preggy so back in my very large 14's. [sigh] I don't do diets so I'll just be reducing sweetie intake and portion size to start with...Just realized I'm, depressed at the thought ofcutting down on the biscuits...my life is over

Having issues with cloth nappies...everytime Tobin wees in them he cries! It's not like he's more wet than in a disposable as i use fleece liners. I will keep trying!

Sockmonkey you are a braver lady than I: DD2 is 8 weeks old now and I think I will be putting off the inevitable jabs until next week. Have all of you done the jabs? There are so many people here in France who are dead against them. I know I will get them done just as with my other 2 DC but it has thrown me hearing so many anti-jab arguments from seemingly intelligent people. Plus I HATE getting my baby vaccinated. Get a grip, I hear you shout!!!

Fraochsmum · 25/03/2010 11:57

Morning!
Thanks for the link ctofn, will mark it and read at some point.
Some 'Hurrah!' news here; Cara slept through the last 2 nights!!! Woke this morning at 6am and yesterday not till 7am - probably a 1 or 2-off, but am delighted!
I am certainly not going to diet to get back to weight, I am more interested in toning up and exercising. Pre pg I had a huge appetite and it has remained constant throughout and afterwards, and I won't consider changing that . Oh, and I'm meeting a friend for lunch in the chinese today . I had a very productive day yesterday, aside from doing 2 washings and cleaning the bathroom in the morning, I got to the gym in the afternoon and to an aqua fit class at night! Granny turned up to take baby away, and DH was watching fitba later, so I took pure advantage x
gloat alert
On Sunday I helped out at a wedding fair in town; handing out champagne at the door, doing the commentary for the fashion show, and modelling the bridesmaid dress I wore last year. A hairdresser did my nice hair-up, a beautician put the finishing touches to my make-up, and I actually managed to zip the dress up - and looked pretty much as good as I could at this time. And the best part? The harridan who went off with my ex-H was there hahaha! Was very pleased to take the dress off again though and be able to breathe!
Yangy, I have been expressing from an early stage for that very reason - my sis suggested getting them used to a bottle before 3 weeks or they might not take it. Sorry you feel a little lonely at the moment, but meeting new people at classes is a very good way of feeling less isolated.
As for contraception...I haven't taken my pill for a week now . There is only a 2-hour window for taking it and I kept forgetting, epsecially if there was a change in routine. I just figure it's not likely anyway, and I really wouldn't be bothered if I did get pg again so soon.

Newbeginning1 · 25/03/2010 13:02

CTOFN - scary stuff about your smears but good on you that you took it in hand and i'm sure he bean diet was good for your figure. Every cloud and all that....Fingers crossed your results come back normal this time.

Albiesmummy - i'm going to be 23 this year and i must have requested one about this time last year because of the publicity of Jade Goody. It's weird to think that instead of a smear i ended up having a scan when a few weeks later i was pregnant, how times change.

yangymac - we go to NCT meetings as well which as you say is good to meet people but is it just me that finds it daunting going to a new group when you're the newbie? With the expressing, DS had to have formula top ups when he was first born so is used to a bottle and doesnt really mind where his food comes from as long as it's food but I would try a bottle soon if you can as one of the ladies i know cant give her baby a bottle because he just won't have it.

fraochsmum - i hope you did the sharing of the champagne along the lines of 1 for guests, 1 for you and so on

ali - how are you and Jacob doing?

londonlottie - we've not heard from you in a while, how are you and the girls?

Sorry everyone, i just need to have a quick rant. My dr referred me to a psychiatrist (i'm not completely crazy i promise) to help me with my PND and my psychiatrist sent a letter to my HV telling her about my 1st appt and said that twinned with pills i needed support from the HV team we have. I asaked for a copy of the letter today and my HV couldn't find it but recalled she had read it at some point. Is it just me or is it a bit wrong that they have been asked to support me but instead of acting on it they have ignored the letter and even mislayed it so i had to get it from the dr? Right, rant over.

I hope everyone else is ok and the babies are behaving . It's lovely and sunny here so i'm going to take the little man out for a walk.

Partyofseven · 25/03/2010 13:38

Hi all

Baby Erin is being ever so good, has slept last two night from 10 til 5.30 and then in with me for a snuggle so then wakes up at 7am. She is obviously not hungry at 5.30 so her dummy pacifys her, Just need to work on sleeping past that time because once she is in with me I don't sleep very well.

She is still very snuffly and has now got a cough, is still feeding/wet/dirty nappies so will just monitor, we are going to belgium next friday so she needs to get well for then, fingers crossed.

New beginnings don't get me started on drs/referrals etc. I have wanted to kill someone so many times over lost referrals re my kidneys and pregnancy. I think because I complained before being pg, I have now been re-referred and have apoint on monday 29th, then april 12th and 13th. Ridiculous.

flyingma · 25/03/2010 13:41

Hi all... had a few more grizzly days with Aidan after his jabs. Interesting re the teething thing as he's started dribbling/ blowing saliva bubbles and keeps on chewing his hands. That used to be my feeding cue but he does it now even after a feed. Will check for whiteness in his gums or let him chew on my finger later. I had thought that 8-9 weeks was too young for teething but I guess not.

Ali I was doing a quick read through and made a mental note to say WD on having turned a corner but then read on to the bad news post. I hope he's better now. (hugs) from me too.

newbeginnings Sorry I did not come back to post. Did you work out the pump yet or should I look it up for you? Ameda are quite helpful too if you ring them - just say you lost the manual or something.

lottie Hi back... you've not been on in a few days. Everything ok?

I'm a bit concerned about Aidan's eyes... since birth, he ocassionally has a bit of a squint. We googled it and it seems common in young babies who have not strong enough eye muscles. Recently though he has started to go cross eyed trying to focus on things near him (say the toys hanging from his baby rocker)... not always but often enough for me to be concerned. His dad say that as he (dad) is long-sighted, he does that too sometimes trying to focus on nearby objects. I don't have this problem. Has anyone any experience of this?

CantThinkofFunnyName · 25/03/2010 13:53

We also got through the night from 10pm feed until 9am when she wanted her next feed. Trouble is, I still spent most of the night tossing and turning with Olivia because she was whingeing constantly for her dummy and sucking the hell out of it. Don't get me wrong, I actually tried feeding her, but she wasn't interested .

My niece wants the moses basket back this weekend as she is due in a couple of weeks, so that means I HAVE to move Olivia to her cot in her own room. Figure I'm going to move into that room with her for a little while until I work out how to wean her off the dummy - my only sanity I think.

albiesmummy · 25/03/2010 19:12

jardins- jabs are horrid i had to give my lo to his daddy to hold whilst they did it...and hes due his second set next week too (here we go again).

CTFN-wow what a fab sleeper. my lo still wakes for 2 night feeds.he goes from 7-2ish and then feeds at 6 and then up at 7 or 8. whats your secret...please tell!! our amby nest is a godsend, i dont think he'd sleep for antwhere near as long in a cot so im anticipating problems when it comes to moving beds too.

newbeginnings- i'm terrified of going to a mum and baby group although desperately want to meet some people...i feel totally isolated. dh works long hours and i have no family where we live. have you mustered up the courage to go to any? how was it?

and on a really fabulous end note my darling little boy laughed today for the first time...a real proper belly laugh and baby squeak!!! i actually laughed and cried at the same time [grin}

FifiForgot · 25/03/2010 19:53

Hi all

Just a quick one, I'm in the middle of cooking supper.

Hope all is well with the mummies and babies. I really should join the weigh in, I managed to loose 1 1/2 stone while pregnant, thats what comes of not being able to eat for 9 months! However, its slowly going back on again - I seem to live on biscuits and chocolate at the moment. Its getting better now DS is sleeping for longer periods and now that the weather is better, I can walk more. I will venture onto the scales tomorrow at my mothers and report back!

DS had his 8 week jabs today. It wasn't too bad, he did scream and has spent the afternoon asleep on Granny. He has gone to bed with a dose of Calpol so I hope that I am not in for too bad a night.

londonlottie I am so glad you are the same as me! I looked at the list in shock.

Im cutting out all chocolate etc and have started walking loads.

My main problem is that we eat tea late. I am only just tucking into Spanish chicken and rice!

PS lucky you on getting the girls to sleep through. It feels odd to have so much sleep!

crumpette I think I have the same bottles as you - Do you have the option to use a condom looking bag in them as well? I havent used mine yet. MIL lives in the states so she sent them over. I dont like that the bags arent self sealing though. It took me ages to work out how the lid of the bottle works!!

whensmydayoff · 25/03/2010 21:51

Loads of takers on the Fat Club front. Great

where is ali hope you are both ok?

I think I have had a break through with Olivia. I have been on DAiry free diet for 7 days today and I've just realised that Olivia has got gradually......easy!!!

She is a lovely content happy baby. The screaming has stopped, the feeding is normal, She sits happily for ages in her bouncy chair and just constantly smiles and giggles at everything.

I was thinking she was maybe getting easier bit by bit because of the 3 month thing but today I just looked at her big grin and thought - Oh, your amazing. The bad tummy has subsided and the painful wind too.

Now it might be coinscidence so I will continue to week 3 then eat Dairy again (it will come in the form of 20 cups of tea with normal Milk - driving me mad) but if it returns Ive cracked it.

I love her wee chubby face to bits, I could eat her - (Im very hungry on this diet)!
She is actually shaping up to be an easier baby than DS was.

Olivia has been sleeping well for a few weeks too.
Only weird thing is, she doesn't do the dream feed thing very well. I was getting her up at 10/11pm to feed her and she woke up at 3/4am every morning anyway.
I wondered what she would do if I missed the dream feed and she just slept right through from 7/8pm to 3/4am. She can be a bit of a horror after the feed though. Lots of wriggling and general unsettled-ness then ends up on DH's chest with me pretending to sleep !

CTFN Im rubbish at reading posts to date. Glad your smear is over and went ok. Horrible things.

albiesmummy he is gorgeous. I now have hair envy though! You have lovely hair. Ive always had very fine hair!

londonlottie Don't let weight bother you too much. You have twins and your BF them >WMDO bows in your presence

I was two stone or more over, after DS as Id had Placenta Previa, a general bad pregnancy and was struggling with BF him. Im glad I didn't worry too much about my weight and just enjoyed him now.
It took me a year to get back (ish) to normal but so what in the great scheme of things.

Im feeling more 'up to it' this time. I don't feel like a diet will make me miserable as it would have with DS if id started focusing on my weight. xx

somewhathorrified · 26/03/2010 09:38

Ok, so me and Tobin have colds , very annoying, esp as chocolate is the best thing for a sore throat...so may be good next week as choccy intake has now increased.

I'm persisting with the baby/toddler group, I'm sure Tobin enjoys it, although last week he did grouch for half of it. It does him good to get socialised and to be picked up and cuddled by complete strangers. It does me good to boost my confidence as I did notice that I'm not as confident as I was prepreg...so anyone still not sure about it, I'd definitely encouarge going.

Does anyone know a good way of doing your pelvic floor exercisesthat doesn't involve just tensing that area...I'm really struggling with them I 'stop the pee' then when I 'hold my lover' I'm no longer 'stopping the pee' IYKWIM. Is there a position/exercise like sit ups that do it automatically?
