quirky, x-posted, I left some 0-3 month clothes to one side thinking they were too big- I tried to put him into a 0-3 month bodysuit and dungarees the other day and it didn't do up!!! He is far bigger than I think he is!

No coil here have never tried it, I personally wouldn't want it but it's all subjective- I just don't want anything I can't easily stop/start when I want without getting it taken out, and don't like the idea of something there irritating the cervix which could damage cells. Had progesterone only pill for a while after I had DD, currently avoiding DP's advances to prevent further pregnancy scares! It's weird I thought I had my period but I only bled for 2 days and it was very very light so weird

Party hope you're doing OK

Newbeginning1 · 21/03/2010 13:34

ali - i'm so sorry to hear about Jacob, you must have bee petrified. Jack and I are around all of this week and we live in Radcliffe which I dont think is too far from you so if you want to meet for a coffee or something then just let me know. If i can help in anyway i'd like to.

crumpette - i'm glad that you managed to get DS to have a bottle and i hope it continues this week. I didnt realise how lucky i was with DS that he will have boob or a bottle. As long as he's getting food he's not bothered.

ctofn - it sounds as though you had a good time and found a store of energy for good times with your DH. I've decided that only when Jack has left home will i attempt to find myself a man so it will be a trip to ann summers quiet time for me and i'll have no worries of injuries.

The sun is shining here so im going to take DS for a walk. Im determined to get rid of my jelly belly, thighs and bum!

I hope everyone else has had a good weekend.

alibobins · 21/03/2010 13:48

newbwginning that isn't too far thanks for the offer
Not sure how I feel just feel a bit dazed

Just feel I can't take my eyes off him

Off to catch up on some sleep whilst dh is on Jacob watch x x

crumpette · 21/03/2010 15:35

Get lots of rest ali, remember where we are if you need to vent. Did you say a while back you had one of those sensor mattresses/breathing monitors for him? If so, you can sleep soundly knowing it would alarm.. easier said than done though! Hugs to you and little Jacob x

Nebeginning, he doesn't really take bottle it was a one-off, but it may be more succesful.I squirted breast milk across a table in public recently and was mortified, it would be easier if I could persuade him to take the new bottles occasionally, once every couple of days or so... we shall see!!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 21/03/2010 16:16

Ali - not a lot to say really - but am so so sorry for what you and Jacob are going through. Many unMN type hugs....

whensmydayoff · 21/03/2010 16:35

alibobins I don't know what to say. You had Jacob just before Olivia and im always keeping an eye out to see how the wee man is.
I have a big lump in my throat. Thinking about you both and the stress you must be going through. I really really hope it's the chest inf causing the murmour.
In saying that my friend has had a murmour all her life and is very fit so it isn't all bad. Also, an ex collegue's son had an operation as a baby for one and it was very succesful too.
Anyway, im crossing everything that it is the chest as anything else is just more hospitals and stresses for you and you deserve a break. .

Hi crumpette good to hear from you too. Yes im back and addicted already. Kind of wish id stuck around to talk through the early days when it was hard with reflux etc. Clearly lots of you have been through the mill especially alibobins. I might have pulled myself together a bit with the sensible MN'rs, ha!
I like the sound of this bottle.
Olivia won't look at a bottle from me either.
My DS was like newbeginning's DS, boob or bottle, who cares it's food! Im a bit astounded by the determination of Olivia.
She is obsessed with my boobs. She grins at them and when I go over to her at her bouncy chair she gives my face a quick smile then searches for the boobs - I feel used !

When I decided id had enough of bad bra's and public flashing with DS, it was an easy almost guilt free transition. When I swither about it with Olivia I feel a real pang of dread and guilt. Im starting to think im stuck with it for the year . Not something personally I would have aimed for. 6 months deserves an OBE in my books.

CTFN Oh you filthy mare...it's only been 3 months - what's the hurry?!! Surley they can wait 6 months...right?

alibobins · 21/03/2010 17:09

Feel loads better after having a little rest
The doctor explained that its not unusual for babies to have a mumer its just teamed with going blue poor feeding and his slow weight gain its all a bit concerning

Next Monday can't come quick enough.

It really does help coming on here and venting (thanks guys) I just can't believe so much can happen to someone so small

Jacob has slept all day today he had a bottle at 9 and didn't have another untill 4 he just wouldn't take one.

wndo how is Olivia feeding now has she settled down any x x

crumpette how was it going back into work on Friday

whensmydayoff · 21/03/2010 18:10

I can imagine alibobins that all of the above together will have your head at bursting point.

Do you have a sensor mat? Just so you can sleep sound without watching him all night.

A chest Infection is enough to have anyone off there food and sleepy. Sleeping will do him good just now.
try to get rest as crumpette has said.

DS is (2)running about in the buff ready for his bath. I said "c'mon then, get in the bath" he said "no thank you mummy but thank you for asking"

whensmydayoff · 21/03/2010 18:12

Sorry ali Yes Olivia has settled loads in last week or two thanks. Omeprazole has really helped. Just waiting to see if going dairy free helps with the tummy probs.

sockmonkey · 21/03/2010 19:11

oh Ali hope everything goes ok on monday. I just cant imagine how on edge you must feel all the time.

alibobins · 21/03/2010 19:26

No I haven't got a monitor I'll have a look at them online and see x x Don't know if it will make me more paranoid x x

He went a rather dusky colour again earlier but it only lasted a few mins
I really am praying that its all down to this chest infection x x

whensmydayoff · 21/03/2010 20:02

Well don't sit and worry, if he seems strange in colour to you go back up to hospital if you start to get extra anxious about him. Just seeing him being monitered again might help.

The monitors with sensors are good because the light flashes with every breath so if you wake in the night you can just peep one eye open and see the flash and then nod right off again. Good for when they are down during the day and early evening too when you are in the livingroom. You can relax a bit seeing the light constantly flashing.
If they stop breathing for more than 20 seconds an alarm sounds. Evan stopped breathing briefly at 2 weeks and Olivia at around 3ish weeks.

Evan was a funnny colour too and with olivia it was dark. Sleep apnea comes hand in hand with reflux so it means they can just take a while to take a breath again but it made me paranoid. I felt the alarms being there helped.

It might make some folk worse like you say it's a personal thing. Only get if you think it would help not mak you anxious.
My one is Tomee Tipee £100 roughly

alibobins · 21/03/2010 20:17

I'm hoping it is all down to reflux as I've been reading that can cause a bluish tinge x x

CantThinkofFunnyName · 21/03/2010 20:30

WMDO - Yep, I'm a filthy mare. It was me that was determined for some action. It had been well over 6 months for us due to my SPD in pregnancy and now it's buggered me up again (not literally I must add ).

Anyway, I'm adding to the teething discussion! Olivia has a little white spot on the bottom front left and had a humungous screaming fit tonight. Fists in mouth, screaming, dribbling, pushing bottle to one side. Gave her some calpol and I can deffo feel the little tooth trying to push its way through the gum! I'm quite astounded really. I just don't recall either of the other 2 teething so early. Going to dig out my old First Year books for them I think to check. I don't know, the poor little love seems to have been through the mill - although I feel terrible saying that when I think of little Jacob and WMDO's Olivia.

On a positive note, I went out for a superb lunch today. But when I put all that I'd eaten into my WeightWatchers point tracker, I realised it was 2 days worth of points .

And another thing (whilst having a rant), I was due to start formal exercise class tomorrow and now there is no way I can do it with my back/pelvis in the state it is.

So - now going to sign off and go to bed. Had a couple of glasses of wine at lunc which has made me uber sleepy and doesn't go well with co-dydramol needed for the pelvis! Oh the joys of sex hey!

mama2moo · 21/03/2010 21:00

Hi all, I am still being rubbish with this thread. Gone are the pregnancy days when I could sit on here for 2 hours when dd1 slept!

alibobins So sorry to hear about Jacob. I agree with everyone about the sensor pad. I have one for babymoo and its such a relief not having to worry. I have an Angel Care one and have seen them on offer recently for £60.

Babymoo is doing really well. Loads of smiles, coos and a few giggles! She has a witching hour every day though where she will just scream - Dd1 had it as well!

I have to admit I am so looking forward to breast feeding. She seems to feed on and off all day and then go between 3 and 5 hours at night. I am hoping that when I stop she will go longer.

I will try to be good from now on and catch up with you all

whensmydayoff · 22/03/2010 09:34

Morning

How is Jacob this morning ali?

Teeth already? Mad, although Olivia has been foaming at the mouth last few days - thought it might be the omeprazole!

Got an appointment this morning for Olivia to go for a Barium Swallow and x-ray on 31st March . Didn't know GP had asked for this but phoned and checked and she had. Just to check if there is something else underlying.

Sounds awful. Have to not feed her 4 hours before ! Don't think she has ever went that long, she will be hysterical. I think she might just enjoy the Barium Swallow after that long without food!

It's the x-ray that worries me, they are not good for you and she is so little. They've been linked to cancer haven't they?

They will take a few pictures in different positions over 30 mins . I will be a total mess.

Anyway, going to another mums this morning. She has DS same age as my DS. Last time I was with her she kept giving my DS a row - it was bizarre! Thankfully there are 4 of us this morning to take pressure off!

quirkychick · 22/03/2010 10:27

ali how are you feeling today? My fingers are crossed for you and little Jacob. I know exactly how you feel. Lots of {{{{{hugs}}}}}I was given a list of symptoms that needed hospital treatment like going blue, laboured breathing, taking a long time to feed - have they given you those? Some babies hearts heal themselves too.

dd1 was not sick for the rest of the weekend, thank goodness. She had d&v last year, followed by a cold and then ended up in hospital with asthma, so we were a little worried this time. She chewed a ball from the garden (pretending to be a dog, obviously ) so I think that might have caused it.

Lovely sunny day here in Norwich. Dd1 is at pre-school all day and dd2 is feeding. Today we are going to try dropping top up after lunch.

crumpette · 22/03/2010 10:44

One set of x-rays won't harm Olivia, and it depends on whether the benefits of potentially diagnosing anything additional outweigh the trauma and possible risk of having it done. Remember that you don't have to consent to it if you feel it is unnecessary, but as it is non-invasive and may pick something up it will be asked for as a matter of course to rule anything else out. It's still your decision, you're still mummy and you still have to consent to it.

alibobins how is Jacob today? I don't have a sensor pad but as people have said, it can help to know that an alarm would sound should anything happen. I imagine you are a nervous wreck at the moment- not fair for all this to happen to little Jacob and to you. If he looks a funny colour, trust your instincts and take him back. Also if you think he is struggling to breathe or breathing very rapidly. Basically just trust your own intuition and don't worry about looking silly, a mum's intuition is the best diagnostic tool, and if he turns out to be OK then you can go home again.
work wasn't too awful thanks, just a meeting I had to attend. They want me to go in in a few weeks time for another one, they're cutting lots of jobs (!) as new procedures are coming in so one whole team won't really be needed anymore and others will absorb the work but need to learn how to use the new system, but luckily that is not me

re being used- DS yanks at my top and can pull my bra down when he is hungry! he's very strong but totally knows what he is doing, it's funny, if a little concerning for future relationships

alibobins · 22/03/2010 11:46

We are okay thanks Jacob slept well I didn't x x
I feel loads better today so many people have got positive stories so trying not to worry too much (easier said than done)
Hospital told us what to look out for and the ward rang this morning to see if everything was okay x x

wmdo Ds1 had a barium swallow and it wasn't too traumatic he was a bit older though he also had a 24hr ph study which involved a tube up his nose and into his tummy. Hope she gets on okay it really is upsetting to see small babies being put through various tests

whensmydayoff · 22/03/2010 15:11

Glad to hear he had a good night ali. I hope you get some rest soon. It all seems so much harder when your exhausted.

Other mum cancelled us all today. Apparently her DS was up all night and was a bit grumpy today as was she (her words).
I met her when DS's were babies then she went back to work when he was a year so I don't see her very often at all.

He DH is a SAHD and is a bit of a SGNt Major with their DS and we used to wonder how she coped with her poor DS constantly getting a row and constantly upset over trivia.
Turns out she is even worse!!

When our DS's were playing happily last time running and tigging each other laughing she was giving them a row for .....well im not sure really - having physical contact .
There doesn't seem to be any room for them to be boys or 2 nrly 3 yr olds.
Im all for coming down heavy for hitting etc but when they are laughing together I don't get it.
They were followed by her the whole morning and were given no breathing space at all.
Im just glad my DS met someone who moans at him more than me !

Damn, Thought I had cracked it there....DS is having a nap which a a rarity nowadays and Olivia was sleeping too but now crying.......all smugness called off

whensmydayoff · 22/03/2010 15:16

Oh she has stopped again - smugness resumed.

I have to tell you all this too (not that it is remotely interesting)

I have put on half a stone, YES, put on!!

But you've just ahd a baby I hear you cry...and your breast feeding, how so?

C A K E S and plenty of them.

But your on a dairy free diet I hear you thinking?

Oh ive managed to find all manor of dairy free crap to feed my new habit.

How bad?

WMDO leaves to find out how many points are in a dairy free macaroon

albiesmummy · 22/03/2010 16:13

hi everyone...(tentative wave) i was just wondering i it is ok to join this thread? i have a baby boy born 3rd jan 2010 and would love to chat with other mummies?

alibobins · 22/03/2010 17:01

welcome albiesmummy the more the merrier

wmdo well went to weightwatchers so am now trying to eat as many goodies I can tonight ready to start tomorrow lol lol

Hoping to loose a stone by 29th May as I'm bridesmaid for my twinny x x

CantThinkofFunnyName · 22/03/2010 18:13

Welcome Albiesmummy. Yes, it's a free for all here and we really have our ups and downs, shared, of course, with each other.

Ali and WMDO - PMSL! Well I've been on WW since Olivia was 5 weeks and I'm sticking to it quite stringently... apart from yesterday when I racked up 30 points on lunch!! Trouble is, it really isn't falling off as quickly as I would like. People keep telling me it takes 9 months to put on, 9 months off etc. but I'm just so impatient! I lost 2 stone in 3 months a couple of years back following WW and I expected to do the same this time .

I still have 1.5 stone to lose to get to where I'd be even a little bit content, but a few pound more to be really happy. I wonder if it will ever happen now? Also have the "over 40" lack of metabolism to contend with. Harumph.

Right - off to wash and sterilise bottles.
