CTOFN OMG that must have been really scary. What buggy do you have? Is it really light?

Sazlocks Happy birthday

I am just doing my child benefit form but dd1 has lost the address label for me! What do they ask for? Is it just the address or do they need anything put on it??

sockmonkey · 27/02/2010 08:13

mama2moo yes it's just your name and address, they stick it on the front of the envelope when they post back the birth certificate.

Mama2b5 · 27/02/2010 12:06

quirkychick · 27/02/2010 15:20

sazlocks happy belated birthday.

It was mil's on thurs and bil's yesterday. They will be round in a min for "tea" and we are going out for family lunch tomorrow.

ctofn thank you for nice post. Re: cranial osteopathy it worked wonders on dd1's teething which was horrendous (3hrs screaming at night) when nothing else did. I was sceptical too but at wit's end. I will probably go back with dd2 as is supposed to be good for DS with clearing sinus and helping feeding. Not cheap but worth a try.

We started baby massage this week and dd2 like dd1 seems to love it. It is a myth that it sends them to sleep, though .

Must go as mil and bil will be here any moment. Have dd2 in sling and dd1 watching cbeebies - bad mummy.

jardins · 27/02/2010 18:50

Dear ladies, I have been reading all your posts with interest REALLY! The days just seem to melt into one due to life with adorable LO and (equally) adorable bigger ones. Phew! I find I've been much less patient with my 6 year old DS though.

I have a question for you all. Do you find that your LOs wriggle around and fret more at one breast than the other? I'm getting paranoid that I may have thrush in one nipple due to too much googling . I've always found my nipple is more sensitive during letdown on my least favoured side and it does seem a little tender between feeds too. It doesn't look any redder than normal and is certainly not itchy. I don't know what to think anymore. Do you lovely ladies find the letdown can be painful for the first few sucks? Has any one experienced thrush whilst breastfeeding? Do your babies do lots of bottom burbs (love that expression )Thanks in advance.

The fab news is that Angélique had her 4 wk check up yesterday and to my amazement she has grown 5cms and put on 900g! Wow!

I am heartwarmed by Quirkychick's posts. I'd love to see some photos of your DDé; I bet she's gorgeous.

I am also amazed by Londonlotties perseverence and patience. I take my hat off to you and your daughters look GORGEOUS!

Big hugs to everybody else.

Mama2b5 · 27/02/2010 20:30

sazlock- hope you had a wonderful birthday and that you was totally spoilt and well looked after by your loved ones!

Fraochsmum · 28/02/2010 14:14

Gosh what a quiet place today! You all must be doing very interesting Sunday things...unlike me. Apart from going to an outdoor clothing sale in the village hall, I have been doing the washing, clearing up after the dogs, making beds, and expressing. And now I am finding an excuse not to watch Rangers and Celtic!
Jardins I find that Cara wriggles more at one side right enough, and I know I produce less milk from that one. I wind her and put her back on, but if she is still restless then I put her on the other side. Occasionally it does hurt when she first latches on, but I think it's because she hasn't been on properly the previous time. I liked the suggestion of counting to 5 (can't remember who came up with that one), but it certainly beats gritting your teeth!
She does 'bottom burp' but not sure how much or little to expect them to do. What she does do a lot is hicup, has anyone else noticed that with their lo's?

somewhathorrified · 28/02/2010 16:55

Loads of farting and hiccups from Tobin. It sends us into hysterics when he lets one go, anything that can make you laugh during a hard day eh! Also he prefers drinking from my left breast...or I prefer him to. It just seems to work better.

Hope everyone's well and is having a good sunday

sockmonkey · 28/02/2010 19:53

Yup, lots of bottom burps from DD. She is louder than her Dad, which is some acchievement for such a little bottom! It really makes us all chuckle, especially the boys.
MW told me that according to the old wives tales, a baby that gets hiccups alot is flourishing. (Naomi had hiccups at the time). I think, and seem to remember, hiccups are a fairly regular thing.

Anyway, DH is shouting at me to tidy up, even though I have a child attatched to my boob . better get on.
Hope you all have lovely what's left of your weekends!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 28/02/2010 21:26

I've just booked our summer holiday for August and feeling rather pleased about it. An all inclusive to Tenerife - me, DH and 5 kids - eek! 2 stepchildren are included in that. Previous few years we have driven through France and ended up at a villa in Northern Spain. Figured it would be too difficult this year with a baby so we're flying "chavsville" much to the delight of the kids! Me and DH also get a break as no self catering for us. Am sure the bingo and quiz nights will grate after a while though !

Olivia still feeding erratically - but the more I observe her, the more I think that actually, despite all of my fretting, she just won't take more than she wants and she was diddy at birth and probably still has a small tummy. She deffo has reflux though as Gaviscon powder run out and she's started sicking up again.

Hope everyone else enjoying their Sunday. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow - Olivia's 8 week jabs - ouch!

Mama2b5 · 28/02/2010 23:28

hi all - just getting back to some normality with DH back still weak and cant do much so have hands full!
Hiccups is constant with LO all the time he was like that in the womb!
bum burps - im so happy he is doin it better out then in and he is doing so well dont fret no more about the wind thing so no more infacol/colic drops!
Roll on monday sorry CTOFN - i am gearing up to us goin away so have 4 bags to pack and fretting about bug bites so need to find safe creams to put on LOs skin to protect him!
2 weeks in the heat - AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
and thats just us and the girls all would be 7 yes 7 imagine us all on hols sends shivers down my spine!
CTOFN - hope all is well with olivia and jabs tomo - LO will get his when i get back!
LO - is cooing and making cute baby noises now - ahhh i love it!

quirkychick · 01/03/2010 09:43

jardins hello! Dd2 is indeed very cute. I think some days I feel just fine and others I have tearful moments. Lack of sleep is definitely the main factor.

I think there is some truth in having more wind when bf on less favoured side I think it's because she comes off and on a good few times in protest. Dd2 can now sometimes adjust her latch so it starts off really pinchy but then gets better.

Mostly we can latch on well on both sizes and I am going to try to reduce top ups to 40ml this week. Especially after spilling 60ml formula all over bed at 6am and having to wash sheets, mattress protector and mattress . You don't get that with bf (unless they posset of course).

I have my postnatal check later today so hope all goes well with that.

Last week dd2 weighed and at 6wks she has gone from 7lb 13oz to 9lb 6oz!!! Especially as DS children are supposed to have problems with gaining weight and dd1 took 6wks to regain her birth weight after losing about 14%.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 01/03/2010 09:51

Quirky - fantastic news re DD2 and gaining weight!

Mama2b5 - have a fab hols. There are 7 of us going away this year. If we had the eldest stepson, it would be 8 - but he's now 19 so we figure he's old enough to fund his own holidays!

Can I just share a little glee and excitement with you all? I lost 5lb this past week on weightwatchers after 3 weeks of just losing 1lb per week and I have managed to get into JEANS!!!! Major milestone for me. Now, they're not my OLD jeans - but a cheap pair I bought in a size up but nonetheless, the button and zip closed and I can wear baggy tops over to cover the roll of fat that was pushed up to the rib cage !

I am ecstatic. No more maternity clothes and leggings with long tops!!!

crumpette · 01/03/2010 10:50

ctfn! 5lb in a week wow well done you!!!! Also v of your hols, because DD was ill last year and then I went back to work I haven't been anywhere at all since 2008, funnily enough we took DD to Tenerife haha, great weather, escaped the bingo by hiring a car and going to puerto de la cruz in the north and santa cruz. She really really enjoyed watching the other children in the pool and dancing in the evenings.

I haven't gone near scales since I was about 12 weeks pregnant, I daren't get on them now.. went to M&S on Saturday and they had their weekend dine in offer, and.. erm.. I got profiteroles and ate all of them by myself.....

How bad is that!? I justified it with BFing

No news here, I'm a bit worried the plumbers will have to return as although the water is hot, the radiators don't work.. I'm trying to dissuade DP from informing them there is still a problem because I so don't want to see them again

quirky such nice news about your DD2 doing so well.

jardins I get pain on my left side, pretty sure it's not thrush but it still hurts for a while when he latches on, and that side produces less milk. Right side is pain-free and fine Oh and tons and tons of bottom burps here too (from baby, not me !) incredibly loud from such a small person!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 01/03/2010 12:29

What other names do you girls use for "bottom burps"? We use that one a lot in our house. I won't have the word "fart" used by the kids AT ALL! I know some people really don't see anything wrong in it, but I just don't like to hear young children coming out with words like that. "Blow off" is most common, along with "trouser cough" used by my best buddy! My stepkids who are Irish think its hilarious that I don't let them say "fart" because its commonplace over there, along with a lot of other choice words! But as my MIL says, "it's just not socially acceptable children!"

somewhathorrified · 01/03/2010 12:52

"pop off" or "blow off" is what small children I know tend to use rather than fart.

No holidays here and a definite aversion to the weighing scales, although did try to see if I could get my size 10 skinny jeans on...big mistake, didn't get them passed my knees

sockmonkey · 01/03/2010 14:24

CTOFN I got into actual jeans last week too (again cheap one size up from normal ones). It's such a great feeling! DH didn't seem to understand me being excited "Look jeans that aren't stretchy and don't come up to my chest!!"
We use trump and a word for bottom burps. I don't really like kids saying fart either. I wasn't allowed to say it as a child.

Excited for all of you who have booked a holiday. We have a week at Scarborough booked for august. Will be fun, as long as weather is ok. Just the 5 of us though
When I was a child we used to have 9 (or 10 if a friend came) of us, plus dog, all squeezed into my Dad's astra for a fortnight at the seaside... ahhh the days before car seats It must have looked like a clown car with all of us piling out!

Just had the letter come through for 6 week check plus first lot of baby jabs. Eeek.

sazlocks · 01/03/2010 16:17

hello all - thanks for bday best wishes - was a lovely day.
Had first day alone with both DSs today and so far so ok. Slighly limited as still can't lift after c section which is a bit awkward with a 2 yr old. He is very good though and even managed to clamber in and out of the car seat so we got out for a couple of hours this morning as I have started to drive again this week.
Well done to you lovely ladies in jeans again. I have cheated and bought some cheapo stretchy trousers just to get out of maternity clothes - I daren't think what I weigh ! and am going to wait to be weighed and checked over at my 8 week check before I start doing anything about it.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 01/03/2010 16:50

I just got out of the jeans - really were too tight for sitting in comfortably - but hey, I lasted pretty much the whole day in them, so to my mind "I'm back in jeans again" . Olivia had her 8 week jabs today . She absolutely sobbed. Poor little love. She's absolutely fine now though - they forget very quickly and I think it is far worse for the mums than the babies.

Walked to the GPs in 30 minutes - it's 2 miles. Phew - my feet REALLY ache now. Note to self, next time, wear trainers.

Roll on tomorrow morning at 7am when I find out about the secondary school placement for my 11 yr old DS. Oooh you lovely first time mums have all of this to dread look forward to!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 01/03/2010 18:46

OMG OMG OMG. Had forgotten (or not sure if other DCs were as bad) just how horrid the 8 week jabs are for LOs. Olivia is absolutely screaming the place down, proper tears rolling down her face and sobbing. It is breaking my heart. DH currently trying to soothe while I clear away kids dinner things and quickly type this! 2 month Calpol currently not doing the trick.

sockmonkey · 02/03/2010 07:36

Aaww poor little Olivia. Give her a cuddle from me. The boys didn't seem to react too much to the jabs, just a bit grouchy the next day. Hope she is soon feeling better. Oh I am dreading it. The day she is booked to go in,(same day as "6 week" check) DSs have an inset day, so will have to drag them all along. I may have to smile sweetly at MIL to look after them.

DS1 just said to me "As Naomi gets bigger will your tummy get smaller?" - I hope so!! May need to lay of the biscuits

Shattered today, the last couple of nights DD slept 11-3 so I got a nice 4 hour stretch of sleep, but last night she seemed to be up every hour. I knew it was too good to last!

Lottie - Eve was the smaller twin right? It may just be that she needs the extra feed, attention etc because Juliet probably got first dibs in the womb? Hey, I'm no expert - just a wild guess here. Olivia is much better today but was sick a lot in the night - went through 5 sleepsuits! And she wakes every 3 hours or so for a feed too. Much of the time she only takes 2oz and I just can't get any more down her, but I'm resigned to the fact that she will take what she wants when she wants and no amount of book reading I do will change that. Babies are individuals - speaks the converted control freak!!

I'm very happy though this morning as DS got his first choice of secondary school .

FakePlasticTrees · 02/03/2010 09:58

hi all, it's been a while, sorry, been a bit busy with the new man in my life! (That's DS, but that's the closest i get to 'having gossip' these days...)

Sorry to hear of those who didn't like the 8 week jabs. As I'm terrified of needles, my DH took DS for his, thought it would be best to avoid me passing out in at the GPs...

He's currently looking a bit scabby, cradle cap although I've heard it doesn't hurt them. I'm going with the rubbing in olive oil and then combing, combined with using dentanox (sp?) shampoo each evening, but it's been a week and it's not clearing, any idea how long it should take? Anyone else got this?

As for fitting into pre-pregnancy clothes, I'm not quite there yet! I've another 3kg to go (that's about 6-7lb right?) but eating pastries for breakfast probably aren't helping that .

crumpette · 02/03/2010 10:03

CTFN that's fab news re DS's school, hurrah one less thing to stress you out right?!

lottie I was reading your post thinking what CTFN said, that Eve being the smaller twin may need more frequent feeding and may be more of a grizzler in general for a while.. also I guess they are biologicaly different people so will behave differently no matter how brilliantly you deal with them, they are just as different as you and your brother etc.. actually I know nothing about twins ignore me
Baby crumpette/James/whatever decided last night not to go to sleep until 4 [tired mummy] he just fed and fed and fed and fed from 11pm onwards, with brief gaps to lie there staring at shadows on the wall and brief gaps for whingeing. I am totally exhausted, I think it must be 'the growth spurt' as he did not stop feeding. He then awoke again at 6 and at 7 for more food!

I have now OD'd on coffee, he has done a giant orange poo that has leaked all over his back and I am about to attempt to give him a bath. Oh how I love my life...!
