Hi everyone!

Well we have been a germ ridden household recently! I caught the vile cold that my mother had and then also got the vicious tail end of it which saw me getting d&v. Most unpleasant! Good news is that mum was here to help and I spent the whole of yesterday in bed while mum bought nico to me for feeds only. Just hope Nico/ DS1 dont get the d&v part of the bug.

The good news is that Nico seems to be sleeping really well. After a 7pm feed, he is given his dreamfeed via bottle at 10 and then not waking until about 2.30ish and again at 5.30. Not stopping me from feeling any less exhausted though! Pesky virus!

I have still not gotten any further than waitrose with Nico, and the way I feel plan on taking it easy until I begin to feel vaguely more human!

Interesting on those breastfeeding - hats off to all of you. I wanted to bfeed DS1 for 6 months. By 5 1/2 months, DS1 had totally self weaned off the breast. He lost interest in breastfeeding. With Nico, I plan to try and get to 6 months, but if I manage less, so be it!

Sorry for not replying to individual posts, still too tired! Will pop back later. Hope all ok.

Haven't read past few posts but just jumping on to say.. hurrah! New boiler plus hot water!!!

Piglet is happy enough today, we have been out most of the day and I amazingly managed to BF without removing him from sling (?!) so he seems reasonably portable thus far...

Fraochsmum · 25/02/2010 16:51

Sorry to hear you are unwell mistletoekisses, hurrah for the mums tho!!!
I want to feed till 6 months as well, but will see how it goes. So far I am feeding exclusively and finding it alright. However I will only feed in public from my good side - it's a bit more tricky to rugby hold in a restaurant! Last week I was having lunch in Glasgow before driving home, the scenario is; in Frankie & Benny's, on my own, just fed Cara discreetly, sat her up to wind her, muslin draped down her front. Cara manages to cough sick up - completely avoiding the muslin - all over the floor! Mortified? Oh yessssss Oh well, I managed to mop it up, and I don't have to see anyone in there again!
Hope everyone is managing to avoid the snow x

Fraochsmum · 25/02/2010 16:52

Congrats on the new boiler! How many plumbers this time?

Hi all -

i have not posted for a while, its been full on with kids and baby! From last week DH has been sick cannot eat anything really bad throat and temp and finally he went to docs and was sent to hospital he was put on a iv and had to stay in so ive been home alone with DCx5 - so its been really hard for me and i had so major tearful moments!
isaiah has rash all over face it was goin but then came back and is on neck and ramdom on back and arms!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhh
he is smiling loads and loves playing, watching TV and kisses on his neck and tummy!

SWH- no arm throwing LO sleeps on stomach!
Ali - hope Jacob and the inhaler issues improves soon!
Crumpette- im sure DP has a issue that needs to be addressed - how dare he cancel the appt!
i would not need a boiler coz i would be boiler mad at him and his attitude!
CTOFN- hows olivia and her reflux hope its not getting worse!
LL - how are your twins and i hope your getting loads of support!

Well on countdown to going away and so cant wait just hope DH is at 100% coz all is paid for and packing to start next week!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 25/02/2010 20:53

Evening all. Quick post before bed. DH has been away on business and v poorly indeed for the past week. Never known him be ill in all the 10 years I've known him. Upshot is I've been dealing with Olivia and reflux alone and my god, for all my saying last week I thought Gaviscon had made a difference, it really has not. This week has been pure hell, with occasional moments of "I think we've cracked it" - only to be disappointed at the next feed. Anyway, DH is somewhat "with it" tonight, but sleeping atm so he can deal with the late feed.... which means I get an early night! I am so totally and utterly exhausted I probably won't sleep very well through over tiredness!

I do hope I manage to get back on here properly soon so I can address other people's woes too!

Mistletoe - sorry to hear the lurgy is in your house and hope you all get better soon.
x

mama2moo · 25/02/2010 21:00

londonlottie Your girls are gorgeous, I love the photos

Babymoo has been pooing all day today!

I have been expressing once or twice a day this week so that dp can give her this instead of formula on his weekend night feed! Is it normal to get more milk out of one boob?

BTW I want to breast feed for as long as possible. Probably not over 6 months though I am bit worried about when she gets teeth already

My night feeds at the moment are enjoyable as I am catching up on Gavin and Stacey episodes that I missed - I love it

Mama2b5 · 25/02/2010 21:43

Hi- sorry to hear of unwell babies and mothers, i do hope all will be well real soon.
DH update-
Well spoke to DH today and have been told he has something called "Quinsy" a really nasty throat infection which if not treated can turn nasty and go into the lungs! so still on the IV so im still home alone!!
CTOFN - i hope your DH gets well real soon.
Mama2moo-Babymoo is doin ermm babypoo- yeh mines has been doin some real big ones changing bodygrows x2 today!
well im off now to settle lo and then hopefully bed, co - sleeping day 4!

quirkychick · 25/02/2010 22:27

londonlottie lovely pictures of your girls! I hope your mastitis clears up there is a good leaflet from the Breastfeeding Network on Mastitis here which I used when it felt all sore/achy on the less favoured side.

Another vote for feeding lying down. I thought I would try something different so that dd2 might latch on (at all!) to right boob and it worked a treat. We took an hour snuggling/lying down feeding while dd1 was at pre-school and she has pretty much fed properly since. I just need to build up milk supply and reduce top ups.

Can I just celebrate some positives since dd2's dx of Down's with you lovely ladies.
1, the cardiologist saying her heart is fine and we only need to see him once more.
2, the paed saying she is "super" and healthy so we only need to see the community paeds not to go to the hospital.
3, a complete stranger telling me how beautiful she is and how her friend has a boy with ds and how they have a wonderful calm and happy quality.

Everybody's support has been really overwhelming and is making a difficult time much more precious. Also, dd2 is a really lovely, calm baby (I did have one I couldn't put down with dd1 so for all of you with nightmare sleepers, I have been there!). I used the gradual withdrawal and a great book No Cry Sleep Solution with loads of tips for good sleep, I discovered it on mn.

sockmonkey · 26/02/2010 07:53

Oh dear to all of you with sickness/sich DHs. Just what you need on top of sleeplessness.
DH got the inflatable matress out last night to sleep downstairs. He just cant function apparently (and yet I am supposed to! )

Had a couple of bad nights, but DD has done a LOT of pooing and seems better again now. (what things we share)

I just can't seem to get motivated at all, the house is getting worse, the washing is piling up. I only seem to be able to do the most basic stuff. DH has said he's looking forward to a lie in this weekend... great for him! Had things on almost everyday this week, sign language class, parents evening, boy's school disco...I'm looking forward to a quiet day!

Sorry for the moan.

Lottie - those pics are so sweet. DS1 was looking over my shoulder and said they are very cute babies (he's 6 and knows what he's on about!)

I am staying away from large groups of people at the mo - Dd has been invited to a party on Sunday but I have turned it down. Norovirus is everywhere and I would rather avoid it as much as poss until Babymoo is older.

I have just expressed 2 ounzes of milk!! I am so pleased with myself! I now have enough for dp to do a feed tonight and to take some when we go out tomorrow (still havent fed in front of anyone except dp)

Me and dp have been arguing this week. I think its because I am so tired and he moans about going to work - Um, hello you get a whole lunch hour to relax - Where is my lunch hour??

Dp also thinks the weekends are for him to rest - Yeah right! I will be catching up on some sleep this weekend when babymoo sleeps. Dp can entertain dd1!

crumpette · 26/02/2010 10:48

lottie I just clicked on your profile and pics and I have tears in my eyes, your girls are beautiful!!!

I haven't taken any pics of piglet since he was less than 2 weeks old so I should get camera out, they change so quickly. When I take some I will put them up and let you know

*mama2b5- have never heard of quinsy! It sounds like an exotic fruit, or a buggy. (Crumpette thinks perhaps it's best she didn't go to medical school) I do wonder how they come up with all these diagnoses.. such as winter allergy for shiny's oliver?!

quirkychick so pleased to read your post and so happy that DD2 is healthy and content, she sounds very sweet x

to everyone who is unwell, I have escaped lurgies so far but have been avoiding most visitors etc so have little exposure, it's stressful enough with a new baby without being ill or having an ill baby so I really feel for you

Well I have just joined ebay and sold some maternity bits and pieces, though shockingly I have massively under-quoted the P&P and have spent just as much as I have made !!! I'm not going to bother again, some items I have had to pay to give them away!

Fraochsmum · 26/02/2010 10:49

crumpette, glad to hear it is finally fixed! Don't worry about the embarrassing thing - an electrician friend was working on a nearby house and discovered a vibrator under the sideboard. The owner and partner were in the room at the time, but the partner went daft because it didn't belong to her! I thought it was hilarious but at least your plumbers don't need to come back again!
Sorry to hear about Olivia's reflux ctofn, I hope you can find something that helps soon.
I havr never heard of that Mama2b5, but sounds really serious and hope he feels better soon.
Quirky that is really lovely news, glad things are going well.
mama2moo, I certainly get lots more out of my stronger side. I am trying to feed more and express from the weaker side to encourage more milk, but not sure it will do any good.
Sockmonkey, heres hoping you get a more restful weekend and that your dp catches on.

crumpette · 26/02/2010 10:51

And for all those whose DPs and DHs are not pulling their weight [grrrrr] I have the same- 'I have to go to work you know, what do you do all day?!' erm, look after your child, without a lunch break, without your long long stop in the pub every single bloody day on the way home.. I would love the luxury of a day at work from time to time. Tsssk

Crumpette - sorry but that is so funny!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has entered the lack of sleep bickering period. DH complains that he has work... I work, it's just not paid, and it's a darn sight more hours than he puts in!! (even though he's out 7.30 till 6.45)Gah!!

Fraochsmum · 26/02/2010 12:05

Lol @ dp being jealous of your "electrical appliance"!!!!
If it makes you feel better, I had a couple of bad moments while staying in a flat with 5 guys when at uni: a couple of them won a huge vibrator at a beer festival, and /i only noticed they left it on a hallway cabinet after showing a plumber around the flat...then 2 policemen arrived to inform me that my car had been stolen, only for 1 to realise that he was standing in a pile of sick courtesy of my inebriated flatmate! Thankfully they were both too polite to say anything, and I pretended I hadn't noticed!

sazlocks · 26/02/2010 15:14

crumpette that really made me laugh - and my DH who is sat next to me
classy fraochsmum

Sorry to everyone with sickly DHs and generally unhelpful ones ! Mine is very good and has been pretty single handedly looking after DS1 for weeks now as he has had a month off work! That said it means that he has also been sleeping in the spare room for weeks and the deal is that I look after DS2 single handedly. It pretty much works although if I hear him say how tired he is one more time then I won't be responsible for my actions.
Rather excitingly its my birthday today so we have had a little family trip out and a carpet picnic. Just catching a little MN time while DSs napping.
ctofn reflux sounds grim - don't know much about it but would cranial osteopathy help that sort of thing ??

quirkychick · 26/02/2010 16:00

Happy birthday sazlocks! crumpette thanks for the nice message and lol at you appliance!

londonlottie what a lovely story about children with ds, I think expectation and early intervention seem to be the key.

Must go, dd2 has not slept since 11am is getting fractious. We haven't quite sussed getting more alert yet

sockmonkey · 26/02/2010 16:43

Happy Birthday Saz!!

alibobins · 26/02/2010 17:24

Happy Birthday sazlocks

somewhathorrified · 26/02/2010 17:38

Happy Birthday Saz, enjoy!

LL I wouldn't worry about the amount of ff LO's take after boob. Tobin was having ff top-ups and taking 3/4of a full feed, it was very disheartening. I just stopped giving it to him and had him on my boobs for a full afternoon (to increase milk supply)and had no problems. He still gets a ff for his last feed b4 bed (so that I can get some sleep while DH feeds him) and he always seems to overfill himself on it.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 26/02/2010 19:25

I am going to try for the fourth time to post something! Each time I type a really long post and then accidentally hit a button that takes me back to the home page and deletes my post before it is uploaded - grrrrr...

Sazlocks - Happy Birthday!! Am going to look into cranial osteopathy - at this stage, am willing to try anything. Chased up paed dept at hospital today and they tell me that the referral hasn't got to them for triage from the central appointments system yet and it could take another couple of weeks before an appointment is generated - and for when? Who knows!

Crumpette - an over-zealous cleaner years ago used to fold very neatly onto the bed various outfits and "appliances" that seemed to end up under the bed in the heat of passion! LOL. Those were the days .

Lottie - your girls are simply adorable. Made me teary looking at them - just the cutest of all things cute .

Quirky - a friend of mine has a DS stepdaughter and she is adorable. So calm and sweet natured. The older DCs have a DS boy at school and they all love him to pieces... sometimes too much so as they try to "mother" him !

My news - had the fright of my life earlier. The wind in this particular part of North London has been horrendous today. On my way home from the school run a gust of wind took hold of the buggy and literally lifted it off the floor into the air and turned it sideways as I was crossing a road and into the direction of oncoming traffic ! It took all of my strength to hold on to it and try to ground it again. It really really shook me up. Felt like crying in the middle of the street - but instead walked along muttering like a mad woman, cursing the weather and anything else that came into my mind at the time . Proceeded to board the next bus that came along instead of completing my virtuous 2 mile walk home to shift the fat from my humungous arse!

Olivia has taken 14oz since 3am this morning - not very much at all. I can usually get around 1 or 2oz into her before she creates and then it is merry hell. I doubt I will get more than another oz or 2 into her tonight - ho hum... Dreading the next weigh-in - but on the other hand, perhaps if she doesn't gain - or is below average, it may help with getting seen quicker?

Right - going to stop typing now while I'm ahead and hopefully this will post!!
