excersise? other than walking the boys to school the only excersise I do is walking into the kitchen to get a biscuit Have told DH I cant really excersise till after 6 weeks... 2 more weeks to go!
I don't entirely understand my weight gain... I put on 1 and a half stone in pg. I now have just under a stone to loose. What about the baby/placenta/blood? Surely that must account for something! Still I reckon my milk laiden boobs must weigh quite a bit

School run went very well. Made it just in time, but DS2 fell over a couple of times in snow, and I almost fell on way back. Had to put DD in sling cos buggy wont go thru snow, could have been bad if I did fall.

Good news, my wonderful parents have lent us a car for the forseeable future. DFs car had been sat for a while, but was too small for us to use, so he's sold/swapped it for a bigger one and lent it to us. Our car was on last legs, letting in fumes, oil leak, dodgy locks but there was no way we could afford to replace it, and tax/MOT due this month too. It's such a weight off our minds to have something reliable!

alibobins · 22/02/2010 18:10

The snow is clearing thank goodness I really don't like it.

Jacob seems to be taking the milk okay today but still doesn't drink much he's had 12oz all day he's still coughing but alot more settled so fingers crossed.

crumpette must be such a pain having no hot water on your behalf

Welcome yangymac glad you are settling in to life with a newborn

newbeginnings thanks for thinking about us

mk Managed to slip and slide my way to school this morning lol have yet to brave mother and toddler sessions I find it quite difficult to go along to things alone and haven't got any non working friends

Hope everyone else is okay

somewhathorrified · 23/02/2010 09:36

newbeginnings this mummy is no longer a dummy! until I'm bored of trying to settle a screaming baby...but it's on my terms so I don't feel quite so objectified. Basically what I do is feed until he starts to just hold boob in mouth and not swallow, then I just take him off and talk to him, if he does the hungry face I put him back on...no swallow no boob.

I've not tried any kind of self soothe/settle techniques yet...once he has his 6 week check I figure he's past the newborn stage and can handle being tortured a bit.

Are mother and toddler groups for babies this age then? I don;t even know if there are any in this area...where do you find out from? I probably should go to something like that as apart from my DH I don't really see anyone else.

sazlocks · 23/02/2010 10:52

Morning all - feeling a bit manic this morning - lack of sleep as DS 2 asking for milk at 11,1,3,5 and 7 - yawn. Although can't complain too much as he did go back to sleep after each feed and its very preferable to sitting up with him for hours screaming cos he has wind. He is 4 weeks tomorrow - do you think it sounds like a growth spurt ?

alibobins perhaps we could have a virtual hand holding to attend something new - I am thinking that DS 1 is now at the age when he could benefit from one of those less structured type of groups so I am working up to going along as well

mistletoe I BF DS1 til he was 13 months and stopped when he was no longer interested. I plan to go on as long as DS2 wants to - at least 12 months so that we can bypass the formula stage and go straight to cows milk. However that all feels a bit daunting right now as we are not even at week 4 so will see how things go.

flyingma 3 hours - eeeek ?

crumpette hope you managed to get registration sorted

lottie hope all good with you - am in awe every time I read one of your posts

flyingma · 23/02/2010 12:07

Did someone say something about exercise... interesting how my subconscious chose to ignore that.

3 hours was active feeding, plus compressions - except for maybe the 5 mins (when I have lost concentration) at the end before I switch him to the other side. I wish I had a bubs that fed for 20 mins and "came off satisfied".

newbeginning1, thanks for that info re the 150ml; worth knowing. DS does sometimes stop when he is full. It is just I am doing so many things it is hard to know what is right.

We had a sleepless night last night because of wind. The only place Aidan would settle was on my chest on his front (DH will kill me). I really need to get more disciplined with the Infacol before BF (always do it before a bottle as I assumed it was the formula) but he is usually fussing so much when he wakes, I found it easier to stick him straight on the boob.

So as well I tried and failed miserably to settle him flat on his back in the bassinet, having resorted to the rocker and hammock for the last 4 weeks. He brought up milk and screamed a huge fuss. For those who are FF, what colour should this be? I am getting a lot of stains which are drying yellowish and smells a bit sour. Is this possetted formula or do I have a reflux problem on my hands?

flyingma · 23/02/2010 12:15

Gaa forgot the replies:

somewhat WD re the dummy thing. Sounds like you did exactly what you needed.

sock yay re the car - hopefully the school run will be less tretcherous now!

crumpette Hope that the boiler gets sorted out altho by the sound of things, you are likely to get more joy from that than from DP going to the registration. on your behalf.

newbeginning1 Have you tried cycling his legs and rubbing his tummy in a clockwise direction? (Not at the same time obviously ) Also I hear giving him some cooled boiled water might help things along. Altho you prob know all this already!

sockmonkey · 23/02/2010 14:20

saz we had a bad night too, and our babies born on same day. She woke up a lot, fed for 5/10 mins, fell asleep, wouldn't be woken for more, then up again a couple of hours later. Could well be a growth spurt, or just liking when we have dark circles under the eyes!

flyingma unfortunately we only have 1 car, and DH needs it, but school runs (fingers crossed) have been ok apart from snow.
Don't know about what formula is like on it's return though.

Took DD to be weighed today, and she's up to 7lb 14oz. Woo!

mama2moo · 23/02/2010 16:24

Hi all, I really need to catch up with this thread but dont get the time!

Babymoo is still doing really well. She seems to feed a lot in the morning then sleeps from 1ish until 5 then has a few long feeds. Its a pain because I still havent bf infront of anyone and if I want to go out in the morning I am stuck!

I havent given her any formula this week and expressed some milk this morning - A whole ounze!! I am really pleased though, Im going to do it every morning so that dp can do one night feed at the weekend.

Babymoo is 3 weeks old today! She is like a 3 month old though. She holds her head up and smiles now!

I am just realising how hard it is to have a newborn and a toddler

I will catch up properly soon.

Hello everyone. Apologies for absence - living in Zombie land atm! DH away for a few days on work which means I have not had the luxury of him doing the late feed since last Thursday and Olivia appears to be in a growth spurt, wanting to feed every 2 hours, reflux has really flared, despite Gaviscon powder and she is constantly falling asleep on feeds after 1 or 2oz and it takes forever to rouse her making the entire feed sooooo much longer than necessary. If I don't get 3oz down her, its even worse! All in all, I'm with the "dark circle under eyes brigade"!

Had loads of stuff to do with the other 2 DCs school wise too so has been a bit of a juggling act.

So - apologies I'm not really addressing anyone's individual posts right now - its as much as I can do to tap away for 2 mins .... and she's rousing again - ho hum...

Newbeginning1 · 23/02/2010 18:07

mistletoe - i'm planning on breastfeeding until DS is 6 months old although i'm taking it every day at a time. Ideally i want to do it until he is a year old so he doesnt need formula even though he has the odd bottle but who knows what will happen.

londonlottie - not good on the old boob front, have you got something from the drs? I'm not sure if you do this already but if you put a warm flannel or something on your boobs before feeding it should "soften" things up ready for feeding so it shouldnt be as painful.

Hooray for Jack as he has finally had a poo (tmi i know). He's still uncomfortable though so there is more to come so im dosing him up on water and prune juice, lactulose and doing baby massage. I even had him at the emergency medical centre here last night because he couldnt sleep because of his pesky poo. He's also managed to pick up a cough and cold which my mum has given to him, i'm sure he would have preferred a better present but hey ho.

Fingers crossed for a good night for everyone tonight.

mama2moo · 23/02/2010 20:49

londonlottie When my friend had mastitis she was told to feed lying down. She found it worked well and it cleared up quickly. Have you tried that?

Are you feeling any better today londonlottie?

Babymoo was awake most of night. She really needs to poo and has been screaming on and off. Any tips on how to help her?

Poor dd1 has another day of Peppa Pig and book reading because I am just too tired to do anything else. 4 hours sleep is not enough

sazlocks · 24/02/2010 10:22

sockmonkey glad it's not just me .

Last night he went down from 11 til 3 and then was awake from 3 until 5.30. A bit of feeding, a bit of farting, a bit of burping, a bit of looking around - you get the picture. Now he is 4 weeks today I am going to get some gripe water in and see if that helps on those long, long, long nights.

hello to everyone else

mama2moo · 24/02/2010 10:24

sazlocks dd1 was awful to wind and we moved straight to gripe water from Infacol at 4 weeks - She produced the biggest burps I have ever heard from something so small I hope it works for you.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 24/02/2010 10:47

Morning all.

Lottie so sorry to hear about your mastitis. I had it with DD1 and it really is awful. Hope antibiotics kick in soon (you have got some haven't you?) and that you feel better pronto.

For the school run, I am attempting to feed Olivia between 7 and 7.45, depending on when her last feed was, so that more often than not, she has dropped off to sleep by the time I take the other DCs to school. Theoretically, she would then need feeding at 10ish, 1ish, 4ish and again 7ish in the evening, just before her bath. However, doesn't always work out that way and the past few days its been every 2 hours - however, once I'm on the move whether she is in pram or car, she does sleep so she can hold on for her next feed.

Breakthrough just now - she took a clear 4oz!!!! Seriously - that's the first time in about 3 weeks. But nearly out of Gaviscon and the GP doesn't want to prescribe more until appointment for paedeatrician comes through - ho hum...

However, everything I, we and she is going through is worth it because she is sooo beautiful, as we all think our babies are and I am still totally in love with her, albeit completely sleep deprived!!

Hello to everyone else.

x-posts cantthink! Well done Olivia!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 24/02/2010 11:56

Crumpette - you and your DP ought to go on Jeremy Kyle!!! My jaw drops in amazement everytime I read one of your posts about him. Seriously - what is his problem??!! Sorry - minor rant from me on behalf of you ...

Have a phone call booked at 12noon about a remortgage - and Olivia is NOT playing ball. She should be asleep by now - but NOT. Aaarrgh...

crumpette · 24/02/2010 13:26

CTFN- haha I always wonder in amazement where they find the people on Jeremy Kyle.. then I always realise, oh hang on, you could easily go on it under at least 8 different topics with your dp..

hope Olivia didn't scream down the phone! I have tried very hard to do something useful today but have sadly just wasted time on MN! ah what's new

Bit miffed about the new mat leave proposals of 20wks full pay, had I known I think baby may have been born a few months later!

sockmonkey · 24/02/2010 14:10

burping techniques I have found pretty useful

Over the shoulder
laying across my knees rubbing back (good for trapped trumps/poos too)
sat up on my knee and making winding her in a circle (if you understand what I mean)
leaning on my hand along my arm

(DH's ExW and her bro have been on JK a couple of times... involves a nice stay in a hotel all expenses paid )

CTOFN - hope you got through your phonecall ok!
Crumpette - One day you'll get that baby registered! Hope you feel better

Lottie - How are you feeling now? Hope you're better.

CTOFN - how is Olivia getting on now, is she still taking more milk?

mama2moo - DS has been exactly the same with his pesky poo but hoorah i have had 2 and he seems better. I did the cycling of his legs, water over his tummy in the bath, baby massage on his tummy round his belly button in a clockwise direction and then i would give him a bottle with cooled boiled water and prune juice which the HV recommended. I give him 5oz of water and 1oz of prune juice but dont spend loads on prune juice in a bottle, gets prunes in juice and just use the juice. Also if youre breastfeeding (sorry i cant remember if you are or not), have something yourself that makes you go (TMI sorry). Hope it helps

crumpette - hope you have hot water now. Have you set another appointment to get LO registered?

londonlottie - glad you're feeling better. I know what you mean about the formula at night as Jack was the same. If you want to cut it out then try and do it gradually, maybe give them 90 mls for a couple of days then 80mls etc and hopefully they will get used to it as you decrease the amount. Could you express when your OH is giving the girls the bottle of formula at night or if you want to do it in the morning then when you do your next feed express a bit off beforehand so they dont get a massive mouthful of milk if that makes sense?

ali - have you made it to any groups?

Hi to everyone else that i've missed, hope you and the babies are ok.

Jack is ok, still unsettled though with his cold and i'm exhausted as i'm getting it but he was very insistent I got up this morning and no amount of boob or cuddles would change his mind. On the plus side though at 8 weeks he finally fell asleep with someone else yesterday and stayed asleep for more than 15 minutes so he's getting better.
